Black Lives Matter is the social and political movement dedicated to fighting police brutality, violence, discrimination, and racism against Black people. Black Lives Matter is used as a hashtag on social networks to highlight various problems black people experience.

The Black Lives Matter movement project was created in 2013 by three radical black women, Opal Tometi, Alicia Garza, and Patrisse Cullors. It represented the response to the murder of unarmed black 17-year-old Trayvon Martin and the release of the murderer, George Zimmerman.

The Black Lives Matter organization was created by Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tometi. In May 2021, one of the co-founders, 37-year-old Patrisse Cullors, resigned from the foundation to focus on her next book and a TV development with Warner Bros that will focus on black stories.

The Black Lives Matter slogan was created as a response to the 17-year-old Trayvon Martin murderer's release. One year later, Black Lives Matters was in focus again when an officer in Missouri killed unarmed teenager Michael Brown. The movement went global in 2020, with the police killing of George Floyd.

The Black Lives Matter movement is essential for many reasons. First, it puts the focus on the various issues the black community faces every day. It fights racism, violence, and police brutality. It asks for the liberation and equal rights of black people.
