Technology has taken its toll on the current generation. Children, teens and young adults are less intent in learning and more interested in their wireless devices. Cell phones should be banned from classrooms because they cause distraction, and promotes cheating.

It distracts students. One of the most popular things that has evolved within technology, is social media. Social media is an online way for students to participate in online communities. They are able to post, chat, and share images of their daily activities. Most students who bring their cellphones in the classroom spends most of their time posting, tweeting, and sharing on their social media. When they do this, they are unable to learn. He or she is unable to understand what the lesson is about at that point in time. This could ultimately result in low or failed grades. According to Doward, Jamie. Cellphones in the classroom promotes cheating. There are many websites, online forums, and tutors available online. Most of the websites require subscriptions. These resources, allows students to ask a question about their homework and they will be provided the answer. If a student is allowed to bring their cell phone, he will have access to submit his question and receive the answer. Another con of having cellphones in the classroom is that if the student has a friend that takes the same class at a different time, they are able to take a picture of the questions or text them the answers to the test. Both of these is a violation of a student code of ethics. According to Lenhart, Amanda, and others 54% of teens use their phone for text message, this can be used as a medium of cheating by texting others for answers in an on going test.

Being able to use cell phones in the classroom does have its benefits. Students are able to use additional resources for their lesson plans. This can help with their complete understanding of their homework. Also, cell phones are a good asset for safety purposes. In the most recent news, there was a school shooting that happened in Houston Texas. The shooter, a current student at Santa Fe High School, walked in the school and started shooting. There were numerous of 911 calls placed from inside the school, from students, to notify the authorities.
