Abortion: the Murder of an Unborn of Child

Ethnomethodology is a technique for studying human interaction by deliberately disrupting social norms and observing how individuals respond. The idea is that the disruption of social norms helps one discover the normal social order. To my beliefs, abortion is murder, and that is disrupting the social norm. A norm is a specific cultural expectation for how to behave in a given situation. Abortions: many people believe abortion is a moral issue, but it is also a constitutional issue.

Do you consider something with a beating heart a living creature? If you didn't know, a baby's heart forms and starts beating in the fifth week of pregnancy; therefore, abortion would be murder. The abortion debate is raging in America. Different sides argue that they are "pro-choice," where the theory says that abortion is up to the woman, and "pro-life," where the theory says abortion is murder no matter what the situation. The opposing sides argue about abortion. Also, it says it's a woman's right to choose what she does with her body, and it should not be altered or influenced by anyone else.

The right is guaranteed by the ninth amendment, which contains the right to privacy. The ninth amendment states: "The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people." The "pro-choice" group also says women have the right to privacy and the choice to abort their fetuses. A fetus is not yet a baby, but it lacks the criteria derived from our understanding of living humans.The "pro-life" people argue that a woman who has an abortion is killing a child. They also argue that abortion is the taking of innocent human life, which is wrong under virtually any circumstances. An unborn baby is more than just a potential life; an unborn baby is a meaningful human being who should not be overlooked.

Human life begins with conception. A middle-aged person, a teenager, and an unborn baby are all in different stages of human life. Killing the unborn is no more justifiable than killing the two other people. Abortion is a practice that should be prohibited by law because it basically amounts to murder. An unborn baby's right to life should have priority over a woman's right to choose. No woman or man should have the power to decide if a baby is allowed to live. A woman's right over her body does not give her the right to an abortion. If a woman has rights over her body, then the unborn baby has those rights too. The child has the right not to be killed. The appeal to a woman's right over her body as a justification for abortion backfires because the right must also be extended to the child. Abortion should not be allowed because it is immoral. Abortion has become morally acceptable to some simply because it is currently legal.

Legality does not necessarily imply morality. Slavery was once legal in the United States; therefore, to be consistent, abortion should also be illegal. The moral aspects of abortion are very unclear; it is time for society to truly consider what it is doing to other humans. Abortion is horrible, and it should be illegal unless the mother's life is endangered by the pregnancy. Many abortions are performed all over the United States. 75% of all abortions in the United States are performed on women twenty years of age or older, but did you know 186,000 teenagers have an abortion each year? In 1990, nearly four hundred abortion bills were introduced in forty-one legislatures. Also, twenty states have passed laws that require teenagers to have parental consent before having an abortion. Abortions are considered "the easy way out." I feel that abortions are just selfish. There is no easy way out. I wonder how people could live with the guilt of taking another's life, especially the life of a human being that they created and that is dependent on themselves.

Many women in the world wish they had the chance to have the ability to get pregnant. If you are not ready to be a parent, then at least give the baby up for adoption and make your life and the baby's life a lot happier. Many say that when conception occurs, it is God's will. If it weren't, God would not have provided others with the joy of having a baby if He didn't feel that you could handle it. God definitely would not provide you with the joys of having a baby if He thought that you had any intentions of killing it. I can understand that having a baby when you're not ready might ruin your life, but what about the life that you are ruining when having an abortion? Abortions are in a way taking a piece of you and you will never be able to get it back. This might sound humorous, but it is not meant to be. What if the baby that you killed could have grown up to be the President of the United States or discovered a cure for a disease that you might have when you are older? There are so many things that need to be considered.

If people really knew what happens to their babies during abortion, would they consider it murder? Just think of all the lives people could save if others cared about abortion. The right to life that everyone takes for granted should be extended to the unborn. Unborn babies must be recognized as individuals. As long as the law reflects the "pro-choice" view, unborn babies will continue to be murdered. The laws must be changed because babies' lives are at stake. In conclusion, abortion is legal, but there are some restrictions on it due to state rights. Also, abortion is killing an innocent individual, and that, in my view, disrupts a social norm in cultures.
