Social media is also responsible for increasing voting participation. It also allows senior citizens to feel more connected with society. Social media also allows people who are socially isolated or shy to connect with other people, etc.

Some of the negatives of social media are that social media enables the spread of unreliable and false information. It also lacks privacy and exposes users to government and corporate intrusions. Often times, students who are heavy social media users, tend to have lower grades. It can also lead to stress and offline relationship problems. It can also entice people to waste their time. Using social media can also harm one's job stability and employment prospects. The use of social media can also be correlated with the personality and brain disorders. Social media also cause people to spend less time interacting with other people face-to-face. An finally, criminals also use social media to commit and promote crimes, etc.
