How many of you own a cell phone? How many of you are guilty using your cellular device while driving? Well I am guilty of it and I am sure many others are as well. When teenagers and adults are driving they can not resist picking up their phones as soon as they hear that ring or vibration. We can not resist just answering back to that one text or checking that one notification. Texting and driving is a dream come true that can turn into a nightmare in seconds. This is exactly why texting and driving should be illegal in all states.

Texting and driving should be illegal in all states due to all the accidents that are caused to drivers. Texting and driving is one of the biggest problems in the United States, and the lives of innocent people are being taken everyday due to a simple distraction. According to crashstats.nhtsa.dot.gov studies show in 2017 there were a total of 37,133 fatal crashes 434 of them were caused by the use of cell phone (NHTSA 2). Texting and driving is a distraction that causes you to take your eyes off the road each second you take your eyes off the road your increasing your chance of an accident happening. Many do not know how dangerous this is and it something we see on a daily basis. This is major for teenagers they are the leaders of using their cellular devices while driving. Illegalizing phones will help prevent fatal crashes. Cellular devices are distracting drivers which is causing them to take their attention off the road. All states need to ban the usage of cell phones to keep all drivers safe when traveling on the road. No one wants to get into a car accident yet arrive to their destination safe.

Texting and driving should be illegal in all states because it a major distraction. When a driver takes their eyes off the road, and hands off the wheel that driver has become distracted. Distracted driving is anything that takes you attention away from driving such as eating or drinking, fixing the radio station, lighting a cigarette, and texting and driving. According to NHTSA.gov texting is the most alarming distraction sending or receiving a texts takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds. At 55 miles per hour, that is like driving the length of an entire football field with your eyes shut (NHTSA 1). Other drivers may be able to identify when another driver is distracted while driving. If you see a driver swerving into another lane, when your sitting at a red light that turns green and the vehicle in front of you is still sitting there, when the drivers is constantly breaking, and driving slow. Texting and driving should be illegal in all states because it is just as bad as drinking and driving.
