Persuasive Essay on why Immigrants are not a Threat to Americans

Most of the immigrants that come to the United States cross the border between the U.S. and Mexico some enter legally, but others overstay their visas. The process of securing a visa is lengthy and cumbersome. Their visas are capped at 85,000 per year - 65,000 are set aside for foreign workers applying for the first time, and 20,000 are for foreign students graduating from American universities ("U.S. Visas"). In 2015, the lottery to obtain a visa hit capacity within one week, according to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The USCIS said it received nearly 223,000 during the filing period." An Immigrant is someone who comes from a foreign country and resides in the United States("Immigrants"). Over many years, different kinds of reforms have been passed to "benefit" the immigrants, but it doesn't benefit all of them. The United States population has increased due to many illegal Immigrants entering the U.S. Today, Immigration is a popular topic. Especially in the politician. Several Presidents have had many ideas trying to benefit illegal Immigrants. A key issue in the United States is Immigrants "taking" American jobs. A lot of people have started getting deported back to their homelands because they are here illegally from overstaying their visas or if they have a criminal background, but even for just being illegal, no matter how long they have been in the United States, they still get punished for working illegally. My argument is you can't get rid of all the illegal Immigrants, and let me tell you why.

History

An Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 allowed immigrants who had entered the U.S. before January 1, 1982, to apply for legal status but required them to pay fines, fees, and back taxes ("Immigration Reform"). The act required employers to verify the work status of all new hires and fine those who hire undocumented workers. 3 million immigrants got legal status through the law, also, in 1942, many American men were fighting in World War II, and the United States faced a shortage of farm workers and began hiring Mexican workers in what was known as the bracero program. About 5 million Mexican workers participated in the program, which allowed many Mexican Immigrants to step foot at our back door and come into the United States. When the United States was at war, America still needed people to farm and pick crops or do the jobs no one else wanted to do, we pretty much handed them our own jobs without thinking about it too deeply. This is important because it was the beginning of it. Bringing Immigrants into the United States to hire them to do our jobs while we were at war, Upon the war ending, everyone was too focused on the victories, and husbands were spending time with their wives and families that they didn't want to do certain jobs anymore, so the illegals got to keep these jobs. Now fast forward to today, and times have changed the population in the United States has started to get out of control, and more people need jobs now than ever.

Today the world may seem overpopulated or seem like it's impossible to find a job, but many Americans just get comfortable with either unemployment benefits or not working at all. The assumption that many Immigrants don't pay taxes is false. A lot of them have to pay taxes in order to try and become fully legal eventually. The benefits that Immigrants apparently get for free are not so true. Many, if not all, jobs nowadays do extensive background checks and make sure you have a valid social security number because if not, they will get fined and penalized for having illegal employees and false paperwork. Therefore, with the proper paperwork and social security number, they do indeed get taxed for their benefits. The crime rate has been really high, and a lot of blame has been thrown at the Immigrant community. But crime occurs every second of every day for all sorts of races, not just Immigrants. In order to say that Immigrants do not care and take the freedom they feel for granted is crossing the line. So many Immigrant students exist today that excel and are top of their class and are being accepted into well-known college organizations, and are becoming the future of this country, everywhere you go, no matter how small the town, you will always cross paths with an Immigrant. Most jobs today require bilinguals or know another language because the Immigrant population is starting to be normal in today's world.

In this article by CNN, "A Day Without Immigrants" shutdown business," restaurant manager Matt Carr, owner of the Little Red Fox restaurant, said "he's holding down the fort" by also washing dishes and preparing food. He said his business would fall apart without his immigrant employees, who come from Venezuela and Guatemala.

"Immigrants are the backbone of this country and the heart and soul of the service Industry," he said. "Without them, our small businesses would crumble. They are also part of our family here at Little Red Fox, and I, too, am worried about their future under this administration."

Argument

The jobs in the United States are still there they always have been the problem is, Immigrants aren't taking our jobs it's the billionaires controlling the workforce the lower money they pay for the labor, the more income and money they will have in profit and income. "Foundation for American Policy, a non-partisan think tank based in Arlington, VA, shows that immigrants started more than half of the current crop of U.S.-based startups valued at $1 billion or more." This is why America has gotten comfortable with hiring Immigrants to do the jobs that people won't do because they allow being paid a lower wage, but to the Immigrants, it is a way of life and a better opportunity than the harsh conditions that they are used to living. They take advantage and work hard for a better life. Immigrants see it as an "American Dream," they get jobs to work hard, and billionaire companies, as long as they make a profit, sometimes look the other way and just deal with the fines or legal issues with having Immigrant workers.

Today some immigrants even bring jobs to America and new ideas the world has evolved into a very competitive market with technology rising, and it is easier to learn and become an entrepreneur. "A report by the National Academies of Sciences," Engineering and Medicine found little to no effect on the wages and employment of native-born workers in the long-term by undocumented immigrants. Immigrants are also entrepreneurs who create jobs. According to a study of the bipartisan immigration bill passed in the Senate in 2014, provisions in the bill could potentially bring between 336,000 and 470,000 undocumented immigrant entrepreneurs into the formal economy. Given that the average immigrant-owned business hires 11 employees, these businesses would account for between 3.7 million and 5.2 million jobs in the formal economy".

Immigrants serve the country like any other American would because they are a part of America. They should be allowed to be legal in the United States. Throughout time many immigrants have received some sort of temporary work permit, but not everyone qualifies. They try asking for several requirements, and some of the people that are immigrants didn't attend school. Back in the day in Latin America, men would be farmers, and women would be a housewife. Education was the least important thing. For example, to qualify for DACA, you have some schooling, a certain amount of time living in the U.S., a clean record, and other things. The TPS program was established in 1990 as a temporary immigration status eligible to nationals of a country due to natural disasters, civil violence, or other extraordinary conditions of the country. Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is renewable every 18 months.

Conclusion

Without us, the United States wouldn't be able to accomplish anything. The economy will lower, and companies won't function as fast as they do. No matter how hard our president tries to take out all the immigrants, he won't get all of them because Latinos are a big part of the U.S. There are also many families that have paper and others that don't. They are always going to find a way to enter the United States. Illegal immigrants help shape our economy. We are already here, so why not legalize?
