These people are trained to help you feel better about yourself and to not go to the extremes as to killing yourself.

Along with symptoms there are warning signs. If you see these signs you need to tell someone that you know can help them. Cyberbullying is hurtful, and it can harm children or teens. People can post rumors or nasty images about a person on social media. When teens gang up on a kid or teen by sending thousands of unwanted nasty text messages, it causes children to feel emotional distress and mentally break down. Not only does cyberbullying include posting mean comments, but also it could lead to serious emotional issues. Sometimes people can feel depressed because of cyberbullying. People feel depressed because they are getting teased or bullied. People have suicidal thoughts and actions when they feel depressed. Suicide is the third most caused for death. As the pressure greatens, some teens may take their own life. There are about 4,400 known cases of suicidal thoughts because of bullying. Teens start to lash out at their parents by saying mean or hurtful words to them online. The victims of bullying do not want their parents to get involved out of fear of being further teased and harassed by their peers. Dr. Andre Sourander from Reuters says, “that a child who is cyberbullied early in life will have depression later on in there life and need treatment.” Twenty percent of those who are bullied as children have a mental health problem. They often feel this way because their brain allows them to think they are less than worthy, everything is their fault, and they deserve this harassment. As children and teens feel depressed and upset, they often show less interest in other aspects of their life, such as their grades and school performance.

Cyberbullying can happen anywhere and anytime. Online bullying can happen through email, Instagram, and Snapchat. Forty percent of girls get cyberbullied every month. Forty- seven percent of teens receive nasty text or hurtful text on Instagram every year. Social media is a large platform that many teens that teens use daily. One in six parents know their children are getting bullied on social media, but they do not know what to do about it. Snapchat is ranked third with thirty-one percent of children getting unkind, hateful comments. In the United States, twelve out of eighteen students reported getting cyberbullied in the last month. Many parents want to take away social media from there children because of the cyberbullying their child or their peers receive. Contrary to their beliefs, that is not the right move. Parents should go straight to the school or police about situations like cyberbullying.

Cyberbullying plays a role in depression and lower performance at school. Cyberbullying takes action on social media. Bullying is a nationwide problem, and it can affect people in different ways. Not only does bullying lead to depression, but it can also lead to stress, which takes a major toll on children that are getting bullied. Cyberbullying, also bullying in general, needs to be taken more seriously and more action needs to be taken.

The term ‘assault weapons’ was conjured up by anti-gun legislators in an attempt to scare registered voters into thinking these firearms are something out of a horror or war movie. The AR-15 rifle which is labeled as an ‘assault weapon’ is mostly used for marksmanship in various legitimate competitions here in the United States. Plus their cartridges are used as a standard hunting caliber which is used for hunting game animals like deer or elk.

Between 1982 and 2012 there were 63 mass shootings here in the United States. 49 of the shooters had legally obtained their firearms. Collectively this includes 143 guns were possessed by 75% of the killers who had purchased these guns legally. John R. Lott, Jr., PhD stated “The problem with such gun control lases is that they take away guns from law-abiding citizens, all while would-be criminals ignore these laws”. In a May 2013 Bureau of Justice Statistics report concluded 37.4% of state prison inmates who “used, carried, or possessed a firearm when they committed the crime for which they were serving a prison sentence” obtained the gun from a family member or a friend. This was done despite their ability to legally own or possess a firearm under the law. Chicago which has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation had 2089 shooting victims, and 390 murders in 2014. The Chicago police department recovered over 50,000 guns between 2001 and March 2012. They concluded these guns came from across the nation, and more then half of the total guns came into the city from outside of Illinois.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports “Leading Causes of Death Reports,” between 1999 and 2013, Americans were 21.5 times more likely to die of heart disease (9.691,733 deaths); 18.7 times more likely to die from malignant tumors (8,458,868 deaths); and 2.4 times more likely to die of diabetes or 2.3 times more likely to die of Alzheimer’s (1,080,298 and 1,053,207 respectively) then to die from a firearm whether if it’s by accident, homicide, or suicide. In 2012 the United States was ranked 28th in the international homicide rates with 2.97-gun murders per 100,000 people. The US dropped to the 31st highest rate in the world in 2016.

I think based on these stated facts there is an inductive reason to why gun control legislation will do nothing to reduce gun violence. The reality is when we have a mass shooting people react to these traumatic situations with very raw emotions. Its hard to not get caught up in the belief that it could have been prevented. But I feel to prevent something you must look at all the root causes of the mass shooting. This includes the ability for the person to legally own the firearm, did they have a criminal record, or as with many of these cases did, they suffer from mental illness? Another factor that now must be considered is was the shooting terror related.

I am a supporter of background checks to ensure weapons don’t fall in the hands of the wrong people. We must keep these weapons out of the hands of those who may be mentally ill, and gun owners should practice safe storage of all weapons. I believe I have a Constitutional right to bear arms, and it should not be infringed upon.

In 2009 citizens of Maiduguri, Borno suffered a multitude of devastating losses. Police stations, churches, jails, and homes were set on fire by the Boko Haram organization (CNN, 2018). The government of Maiduguri arrested or killed over 500 known members of the Boko Haram and destroyed their sacred mosque causing a backlash from the sect. Members of the Boko Haram started mindlessly and aimlessly killing whomever crossed their path, mostly law enforcement, and for no other reason than retaliation to the government (CNN, 2018). To end the killings and terrorism, a Joint Military Task Force was formed between Chad, Niger, Nigeria, and Cameroon (Campbell, 2018). With the help of local police, the Joint Military Task Force killed many of its members including their founder, Mohammed Yusuf, and other leaders of the organization (CNN, 2018). Since its beginning, the Boko Haram members have caused pain and terror in the lives of those who will not join in their religious beliefs, ideologies, or shared hope.

Hoping for an Islamic state in Nigeria and completely implementing Shari’ah Law, Islamist and Salafist educated Mohammed Yusuf started a sect in Borno, a state in northeastern Nigeria in 2002 (Sergie & Johnson, 2014). The name of that group was “Jama’at Ahl al-Sunna lil-Da’awah wa al-Jihad” which translates to “Association of the People of the Sunnah for Preaching and Jihad” (McKenna, 2014)”. Oddly enough, it was not originally intended to be a vicious group. Yes, attacks occurred for religious reasons, because Sheri’ah Law wasn’t being followed, but the violence didn’t really come full force until the death of Mohammed Yusuf in 2009. The remaining members needed to take revenge for their leaders’ death.

In 2010, the right-hand man to Yusuf, Abubaker Shekau, whom was previously assumed dead in the 2009 Joint Military Task Force raid, produced a video declaration stating that he was the new frontrunner of Boko Haram (CNN, 2018). When Yusuf was alive, he did not have complete power over the members of the group; there was no true structure or guidelines for them to follow (Sergie & Johnson, 2014). At the wake of his death, the members scattered into a myriad of sects or groups, one such resulting in what we now know of as Boko Harem.

The U.S. Code of Federal Regulations defines “terrorism” as “the unlawful use of force and violence against persons and property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherness of political or social objectives” (Criss, 2017). That is the very definition of what Boko Harams purpose is.

April 2014 turned out to be a time over 200 families would never forget; over 200 girls were kidnapped from school by the Boko Haram (McKenna, 2014). During that year, there were a multitude of suicide bombings, three of those being by female suicide bombers. The fear is that the terrorists are forcing these young girls to be suicide bombers. If that is the case, there are over 200 bombs still out there. Abubaker Shekau takes responsibility for kidnapping the girls stating that he will sell them in the market and marry them off (Campbell, 2018). In 2015, Abubaker Shekau, declared allegiance with ISIS (McKenna, 2014).

September 11th, 2001 was a historical event executed by nineteen airplane hijackers

and ended up with two thousand nine hundred and seventy seven victims. The department of homeland security was created as a response to 9/11. Homeland security is a combination of twenty two different governmental agencies and is designed to protect America from threats and terrorism attacks. I believe that the creation of Homeland Security in direct response to 9/11 was a good idea because Homeland Security is a newer more technologically advanced way to protect the United states from terrorist threats and attacks such as 9/11.

On September 11th, 2001 air travel wasn’t as much of a hassle as it is today. Nineteen airplane hijackers were able to get onto and hijack four airplanes. Their weapon of choice; box cutters. You used to be able to bring knives on aircrafts, which today would be unthinkable. The armed men took hostages and held box cutters to plane passengers’ throats. They were able to walk into the cockpit with no questions, and hold the pilots hostage with the box cutters. The men then took control of the aircrafts, and famously and historically crashed the four planes into the twin towers. A suicide mission, and mass murder of two thousand nine hundred and seventy seven victims, ranging in age from two years old to eighty five years old.

Although I wasn’t born yet, there are still many ways 9/11 has affected me and the ways I travel. We have to go through searches before we get on airplanes, metal detectors, and random checks. There is now a lock on the planes cockpits, you used to be able to bring a bottle of water or listerine on the plane, now you are only able to bring 3.4 oz bottles or less. Passengers are now required to take their shoes off before boarding the plane in order for security to check in case any bombs are hidden inside the shoe(s). A college student has been detained overnight, she was studying arabic, and she had homemade flashcards on her while boarding the airplane. IDs must be presented and the name must match the name on the ticket. Now, only ticketed passengers are allowed in the airline gate areas.

This was a very historical attack, that will go down in the history books. Although flying is now a hassle and more difficult than before the attacks, I feel that it is important to take these extra steps to ensure the safety of passengers and pilots while traveling. I also think that it is important to have one trained security guard on a passenger aircraft at all times, with a firearm on his/her person so it is easily available in times of need such as 9/11.

Should Conscientious Objectors in healthcare Be protected?

Many states have a clause that allow physicians and other health care providers to consciously object (CO) to provide care based on a contradiction to their beliefs. Even though Medical providers voluntarily enter this field knowing what the profession asks of them, physicians and other healthcare providers should have the ability refuse participation in procedures or caregiving that violates their moral, ethical or religious values.

All across the country, people want to be respected and feel in charge of their own life. This is why people from all over the globe try everything to enter the states for a life that offers prosperity and more importantly, Freedom. Front and center right now individuals are presently feeling silenced from issues such as : civil rights and race-relations, gender inequality, and free speech. Healthcare are workers are experiencing the sames issues. It’s okay for patients to refuse/accept medical care such as: assisted suicide, abortions, and assistance in dying; sometimes against the wishes of family and medical advice. Yet, when a healthcare professional (HCP) chooses to decline attending to a health issue due to personal or religious reasons, they are deemed the one in the wrong.

Many agree that giving HCP the ability to decline treatment based on their CO puts the the patient’s health at further risk and is unethical. This type of refusal is seen most in reproductive health surrounding the topics of abortion and contraception. According to Arthur and fiala (2017) “There is no defence for ‘Conscientious objection’ in reproductive health care (Arthur, Fiala 2017)”. They discuss that it is impossible to establish absolute certainty about the HCP personal beliefs. Because of the difficulty in validating one's judgement, the trust and support for the HCP is extirpated.

Everyone knows that HCP are responsible for providing impartial, unbiased, and honest care to patients. However, biases do exist such as which create the potential for HCP to deceitfully use their CO erroneously. Liberman suggest that HCP who “harbor invidiously prejudicial attitudes and assumptions (Liberman, 2017)”will almost inconceivably be unable to administer acceptable care. This type of refusal blurs the line with CO and further raises the temperature on issues like civil rights, race-relations, and gender inequality.

There is palpable tension between many peoples views on CO in medicine. Issues that I have discussed above touch on many fundamentals values in people’s lives. Many of the treatments done are morally controversial and pose concerns for the patient and HCP. The freedom to choose what healthcare choices suit each individual is an advantage here in the states. The goal is that no one should feel pressured to do things that they don't want to do. It is not some ostentatious discussion with the doctor or nurse upholding their rights and the patient affirming theirs, it is each individual having a conscious reflection on their values.

A conspiracy theory is “a theory that explains an event or set of circumstances as the result of a secret plot by usually powerful conspirators” (“Conspiracy Theory”). One of the most renowned conspiracy theories involves the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The President was shot by a man named Lee Harvey Oswald. Contrary to the widely accepted belief that Lee Harvey Oswald planned this alone, conspiracy theorists believe that he planned the assassination as part of a larger group of people, the Soviet Union. The theory that Oswald was working alongside the Soviet Union is proven by Oswald’s connection with them and his unusual actions leading up to the assassination.

The first reason why this theory is true is Lee Harvey Oswald’s connections to the Soviet Union. “...After leaving the Marines he moved to the Soviet Union and tried to renounce his citizenship” (Meltzer and Ferrell 133). Oswald lived in the Soviet Union for three years. While there, he married a Soviet woman. He also applied for citizenship but was denied, which caused him to attempt suicide (Meltzer and Ferrell 133). Oswald wanted to live in the Soviet Union rather than the United states which shows that he supported the them more than his own native country. This information supports the theory that Lee Harvey Oswald was working with the Soviet Union in the assassination of the president because it displays the suspicious relationship between Oswald had with them.

The second reason it is likely that Oswald was working alongside the Soviet Union is Oswald’s peculiar actions prior to the assassination. In 1963, Lee Harvey Oswald founded part of a pro-castro organization in New Orleans. Also, in September 1963, Oswald went to Mexico City. There he tried to get a visa to go to Cuba or return to the Soviet Union (“November 22”). Additionally, Oswald made a phone call to the Soviet embassy in Mexico City about two months before the assassination (Stanglin). “The call indicates Oswald visited the embassy on Sept. 28 and spoke with the embassy consul, Valeriy Kostikov, who the report identified as a member of the KGB assassination department working undercover at the Soviet embassy in Mexico City” (Stanglin). These unusual events help prove the theory that Lee Harvey Oswald was working with the Soviet Union.

In conclusion, there are to many suspicious factors in Oswald’s life for it to be likely that he planned the assassination alone. Therefore, it could not be a coincidence that he had that many connections to the Soviet Union. This proves that Lee Harvey Oswald was working with them in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. If the United States government had believed in this theory, how could it effect the United States’ relationship with Russia today?

There are many important matters that are going on in the world that are connected to historical events discussed in the class. Even though they happen during different time periods, the events can be related to each other. A lot of situations that happened in the past is similar to some events that happens in the present. A contemporary news event is the attack during a religious meeting in Afghanistan. This can be related to the 9/11 event that happened several years ago. Both events do have similarities and also differs from each other.

There was a bombing in a religious meeting in Kabul, Afghanistan on November 20, 2018. This attack killed about 55 people. According to Wahid Majrooh, who is the spokesman for the Ministry Public Health, about 96 people were also injured in an explosion in a wedding palace and 24 people were serious. This bombing was characterized as a suicide bombing.

This event reminds me of the 9/11 event that took place for many reasons. 9/11 was a series of attacks that happened throughout many places in the U.S. on September 11, 2001. However, the biggest attack on that day happened in New York City. The twin towers in the World Trade Center were attacked when 2 planes flew into them. This is a devastating event that still affects so many people till today.

Both the Afghanistan bombing and 9/11 are related for many reasons. In the “9/11 attacks” article, it states, “On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States”. Both events are suicide attacks. Suicide attack is when someone carries out a violent attack to kill themselves, however it affects the public as well by injuring them and/or killing them.

Also, the Afghan bombing and 9/11 attacks were carried out by militants. In the “At least 40 killed in suicide bombing at Afghan religious gathering, it states, “It follows a wave of violence across war-torn Afghanistan in recent weeks that has killed hundreds of people as militants step up attacks”. A militant is someone who is serious about an issue and therefore acts aggressive to make something happen. Another similarity is that both attacks were terrorist attacks.

There are also many differences between both of these events. The bombing in Afghanistan was targeted towards muslims. In the article, it states, “President Ashraf Ghani called the attack “a crime against Islam and humanity” and declared a national day of mourning on Wednesday”. However, 9/11 attack was done by muslims, targeted towards the Americans. It was carried out by ISIS and the ISIS group leader Osama Bin Laden. ISIS was a terrorist group. Also, Osama Bin Laden later died during the Obama administration.
