Civil War Atlanta

The historical site that I chose to visit was the Swan House, located in Atlanta, Georgia. Built in 1928, the Swan House was home to Edward and Emily Inman. The Swan House is located right behind the Atlanta History Center and is open Monday-Saturday 11:00am-4:00pm and Sunday 1:00-4:00pm. The Atlanta History Center is 33 acres of exhibits, grounds, and gardens including The Swan House, The Margaret Mitchell House, The Smith Family Farm and so much more. They offer general admission tickets, which allow you access to the whole museum, and also a behind the scenes ticket for a 45-minute tour of the Swan House including general admission.

The Swan House was built in the 1920s and was owned by Mr. and Mrs. Inman. Mr. Inman was the son of Hugh Inman who was a very wealthy man due to a large fortune that he received working as a cotton broker. Their previous home in Ansley Park had burned down so they decided to establish a fresh start and a new home to reclaim their wealth and to help rebuild the post civil war Atlanta. Mr. Inman was very active in the community and in the political scene. He played the role of an Atlanta City Councilman, and Fulton City Commissioner. Mrs. Inman and her mother were suffragists and fought for women’s right to vote.

Philip Trammell Shutze designed the Swan House along with the partnership of Hentz, Reid, and Adler, an architectural firm. He fully began working on the design of the house after the death of Reid. He is well known for his civil landmarks such as The Academy of Medicine, The Temple, and of course The Swan House, which are all located in Atlanta, Georgia, close to where he grew up. This classical house was influenced by Italian and English styles and had much of Mr. Inman’s input and ideas. Mr. Inman chose the swan, one of his favorite birds, to be the motif of this house, hence why it is called the swan house. Philip incorporated the swan motif into the designs and it is found all throughout the house.

Mr. Inman passed away only three years after the house was built in 1931 leaving his wife, Emily, there to take care of it. They both originally did not want kids in the house in order to keep it clean and for it not to become worn. However, after Mr. Inman’s passing, Mrs. Inman allowed their grandchildren to live with her. Her grandchildren ended up growing up in the house.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this site to a friend or family member because it was very interesting and it was different than most of the other historical sites that I have visited. If someone only had a short time to spend at this site I would suggest that they spend their time focusing on the outside architecture of the house because it was remarkable, especially the front of the house where there is a stone fountain in between two staircases which give the front of the house a symmetrical look. What really intrigued me to visit The Swan House was because parts of the popular movie series The Hunger Games were filed there. The Swan House acted as president snows home in Catching Fire, the second movie in the series.

Sex-based or Gender Discrimination and Suicide

Discrimination in Lagos is becoming uncontrollable. The practice of being unjust to others due to their status should be discarded immediately. The people of Lagos faces sex-, religion-, age- and tribal-based discriminations. The discriminators prey on people's feelings, therefore causing harm to vulnerable people as some of them resort to suicide. Hence, perpetuators should be severely dealth with. The people of Lagos needs help, and I believe you are in the right place to offer it. Discrimination in my community should be fought off so as to save people's lives and state of mind.

Sex-based or gender discrimination is another issue the community faces. Favouritism is at it peak when it is time to enroll into some institutions. Many people see nursing profession as a work deemed for females, and as a result, many males aspiring to study nursing as a profession often get their dreams cut short after they get screened out even when they've passed the entrance examination. Being a mechanical engineer is another profession people think is fit for a particular gender. Females don't usually make the cut as it is thought that they do not have the physical strength required to carry out some activities. Another group of people suffering from this discrimination are the transgenders. People from the religious group believe they had defiled God's work and as a result become bitter towards them. People, no matter what gender should be treated fairly and equally.

Religious discrimination is an issue every individual faces in my community. Muslims being the least populated in my area suffer this more. Apart from being branded terrorists, many of them are being denied job or are fired based on their religious belief. For instance, the Muslim women make use of the hijab for the sake of chastity, but some organizations forces them to remove their hijab in order to comply with the company's dress code or risk being fired. The males are not exempted as well as they also suffer certain backlashes in their place of work. Christians are also discriminated against. People often accuse them of hypocrisy even when there is no known proof, and therefore show hatred towards them. Another group that faces discrimination are the non-religious people. They are always look down upon by other religious group because of their believes.

Age discrimination is also an issue in my community. Older people are often the victims of this especially when seeking for job. Companies refuse to employ the older folks even when they tender good and valid credentials. While the one at their work place are prone to being sacked or retired. Younger people are harassed either verbally or sexually by the older people, and females are mostly the victims.

Tribal discrimination has eaten deep into the system in our community. An individual from a particular tribe would like to show superiority to another from a different tribe. Many people have been denied employment, admission into schools and even basic help, for not being of same tribe as the person above. People also attribute certain crimes like armed robbery, cultism, drug dealing and fraud to a particular tribe, and this causes unrest in the society.

I Don’t Want to be Alive

Everybody: The song Everybody is about everyone in this country and how mostly everyone is treated. Logic says that the United States makes their citizens feel like they have more free will and power than what they really have, when really our minds are only focused on little things such as money that this country takes advantage of that. The hook is speaking about unity saying, we all bleed, want love, need something, and are people.

Confess: The song Confess is based on the perspective of a man who goes into a church to pray. The first part of the song is what he’s thinking while praying. He’s thinking about what life would be life if he was someone else, somewhere else in the world. Continuing on about how for a lot of his life he has been told that everything will be alright, but situations made it not seem that way. He asks if anybody is there or can hear him. However, once Killer Mike comes into the song, he raps what the man actually says out loud. He questions God why he has put African Americans in the position they are in, in today's society, where there’s violence an betrayal.

Take It Back: Take It Back shares the perspective of Logic’s life. Born in a biracial family, Logic faced hard times from both sides of his family. Ever since he was a child, he experienced people trying telling him what race he actually is. He mentions how everybody around him when he was younger lied to him. For example, his white mother always told him that everyone is equal, while shouting racial slurs towards him and his black father. Logic, who refers to himself in third person, talks about how he always saw life from two sides and how he believes that everyone was born equally during the song.

1-800-273-8255: For the title of this track, Logic uses the number of the suicide prevention line. The beginning of the song starts off about a person contemplating suicide singing “I don’t want to be alive” along with the music. Logic says with how today’s society treats depression and suicide, people still will not actually help to do something about it. The song sort of explains the progression of depression, from the time when somebody questions the value of their life, to almost commiting suicide, and then later on in their life when they are happier and are no long depressed. The message of the song is to show how life does get better, no matter what someone might be going through.

Black Spiderman: Diversity is the main focus of this song. In the beginning of song, the first chorus is a group of all the perspectives of different people Logic sung about on the album. He switched between two perspectives throughout the song, Logic shows how to accept diversity through a gay man and black woman. He mentions that everyone should accept each other no matter the skin color, sexual orientation, or religion. The song addresses the relevant topic of racism talking about the what is, what should, or should not be aspects of it all.

Veterans Commit Suicide

If you’re very lucky, you will never experience a traumatic event. Unfortunately, about 60% of men and 50% of women experience one in their lifetime. For those who have, the thoughts and feelings associated with this trauma may linger for days or weeks, but with time and care, the symptoms usually lessen. Fear is a natural self protection mechanism designed to keep us out of harm. However, a deeply distressing or disturbing experience, or prolonged exposure to life threatening situations, may cause an individual to develop Post-traumatic stress disorder, (PTSD). Out military troops suffer greatly from this affliction. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that PTSD afflicts almost 31 percent of Vietnam veterans.

As many as 10 percent of Gulf War (Desert Storm) veterans. 11 percent of veterans of the war in Afghanistan. Sadly, an average of 20 veterans commit suicide each day. With about 97% being male. People suffering from PTSD can re-experience the terror over and over again through nightmares, flashbacks, or intrusive memories. Many have to manage anxiety, sleep disturbances, depression, substance abuse, and chronic fatigue. Along with the negative thoughts and emotions, there are physical aspects., back pain, stomach pains, body aches. Some even feel physical sensations of their trauma. It’s all too easy to disregard a persons feelings or thoughts. Especially when at the moment, there may be no threat whatsoever. One may be tempted to tell the victim to stop being so negative. Or that everything will be OK. Or, it could be worse. They may try to tell them what they “should” do. These tactics invalidate the persons pain and create a stigma. This sense of shame or disgrace often keeps many people with PTSD from seeking treatment.

The good news is that PTSD can be treated with psychotherapy and medicines such as antidepressants. There are also a few things you can do to help your loved one manage their symptoms as well. Let them know that you will always be there for them so they feel loved and supported. Assure the person that you believe they’re capable of recovery and point out all thier positive qualities and successes. Structure and predictable schedules can restore a sense of stability and security Unfortunately, like most mental illnesses, PTSD is not strictly curable, but with professional treatment and a little help from loved ones, symptoms can improve significantly or even disappear. With a little love, patience and understanding, you and your loved ones can go back to living a normal life.

Suicide Rates in Belfast

In times of tragic events, we often come together as one to be there for each other. On March 24, 2018 millions of people, celebrities, and students from around the world came to march to the White House to get their voice heard about enforcing stricter gun control due to numerous mass shootings, including the Parkland shooting on February 14, 2018 at Stoneman Douglas High School. However, in the book “ Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging” , Well known filmmaker and author Sebastian Junger indicates that in our culture there is a sense of solidarity that's lossed when the veterans return home from war. In the book, Junger uses data, personal experiences, and historical background. By using these rhetorical devices, Junger’s purpose is to bring awareness to the needs of American soldiers.

Within chapter one, Junger begins to indicate data by providing statistical information. For example, Junger says, “ Financial Independence can lead to isolation, and isolation can put people at a greatly increased risk of depression and suicide” ( 21). Junger explains that because there is no sense of solidarity, the soldiers who come home are left to do things on their own with no assistance.

As shown above, Junger provides clear data but he also uses personal experiences. In the introduction, he says, “ What I wanted wasn’t destruction and mayhem but the opposite: solidarity” ( xiv, 14). Junger wants the readers to know the connection between him and the thesis because they both feel the same way like they are alone.

In chapter two, Junger uses data of statistical information regarding the deaths of people and soldiers during war. Junger states, “ Irish psychologist named H.A. Lyons found that suicide rates in Belfast dropped 50 percent during the riots of 1969 and 1970, and homicide and other violent crimes also went down”(48). What Junger is saying is that since their is a sense of solidarity there because they are fighting together as one, they don't commit suicides and etc.

In addition, towards the end of he book, Junger uses personal experience again . He says,” As soon as relief flights began delivering aid to the area, class division returned and the sense of brotherhood disappeared” ( Junger 55). This goes to show Junger’s purpose how the sense of unity goes away quickly.

Throughout chapter three, he uses data to calculate the rate of veterans that have been diagnosed with PTSD. In the middle of chapter three, Junger states, “ The much- discussed estimate of twenty-two vets a day committing suicide in the United States is deceptive..”( 83). Junger reconnets to the thesis of how they feel alone and dont feel unity.

As a matter of fact, he uses personal experience again. In the book, he says, “ Our fundamental desire, as human beings, is to be close to others, and our society does not allow for that”( Junger 94). Junger connects his experience to his purpose by stating how it is a need to be with others to feel unity.

Brazil Gender Equality and Suicide Rate

Brazil has been trying to make strides in gender equality for years now, they gave men and women the same access to education, improved maternal health, and there's even a lower pregnancy rate for young woman, but it is still far from equal. Why is this? they seem to have the right formula, but they are still struggling to integrate indigenous and non white woman into the prestigious working class. There seems to still be a societal prejudice against Afro-Brazilian and indigenous woman. The femicide rate among these women increased 103% in the past ten years. This is a problem considering the southern portion of south America has very low rate of these domestic violence cases. The indigenous woman have it the worse by far, that average homicide rate for Afro-Brazilian woman was 4.6 per 100,000, but compare that to the 7.3 per 100,000 indigenous homicide rate and you can see that it is almost doubled.

The rate of suicide among indigenous women is also doubled. So not only are they struggling with their native woman, but especially struggling when trying to integrate some more primitive cultures. This can likely be caused by the control of land battle always going on in the northeast parts of Brazil. It seems that they have resisted their land being taken and when the government attempts to drive them away. Now this isn't a direct problem for our business, but it definitely appears that the woman of these groups are often disrespected and objectified. Now aside from violence, is there a silver lining to the women's opportunities?

This may not surprise you, but no, women's wages equaled 71% of what the average male earns in a fiscal year. This is one of largest wage gaps in South America and the gap only grow when it comes to highly educated professionals. This applies directly to the comparison of Afro-Brazilian women compared to not only men, but also white women. For some added perspective, their woman who completed secondary education earn just half of what men earn with the exact same level of education. It is obvious that women are treated differently in Brazil and it is unfortunate that they are not as equal rights as we are and this could definitely be a cultural obstacle our team will have to circumvent by expanding on our agile delivery. How can they start to progress beyond this obvious gender injustice? The starting point would be the government and having a stronger pro-women representation.

Unfortunately, women represent just under 13.6% of seats in the senate, far below the rest of South America that has an average of 26%. The Inter-Parliamentary Union ranked Brazil 113th in the world in their category of 'Amount of Women in National Parliaments.' Brazil is by no means a modern-day society when it comes to their gender objectification. They face many problems that the average developed nation does not when it comes to the lack of woman in these key roles in business. It all starts with improving the conditions in these impoverished areas which contain a lot of adolescent pregnancy. Once you can get a control on the economy and the dispersion of wealth women can find more opportunities because of it, possibly in congress where they can properly be heard. By any means, we must show them that women excel in these roles when given the opportunity.

Suicide Rate is Going up

Depression is feelings of sad, and self-doubt. More than 16 million people suffer from depression in the United States alone. Depression makes you feel very sad and nothing really makes you happy. If affects all kinds of people, men, women, teenagers and some kids, it is mainly prevalent in women. In some cases there are longer cases of depression and lasts around two years, it affects 3.3 million Americans.

My first main point is the symptoms of depression, if you have depression you might feel sleepy all the time or fatigued a lot, you may also feel a lack of concentration and also may have thoughts of suicide. If you feel sleepy or are fatigued a lot it doesn’t mean you have depression, it might just mean you are not getting enough sleep or if you are fatigued you might just be out of shape. If you have thoughts of suicide you should find someone who is close to you and tell them that you are feeling sad and talk to them about your feelings.

My second point is what depression is like, if you have depression then you will think that you have no hope of getting out of the sad state you are in, but there is hope because you can get through it. You might also have anxiety because it will give you feelings of panic, danger or dread. It can also make you breathe harder and increase your heart rate, it can also make you sweat hard because you are nervous.

My third point is different types of depression and what causes it. The most common type of depression is Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), it have the effects of a depressed mood, changes in weight and sleep. Another common type of depression is Persistent Depressive Disorder. It can last for over two years and has the same symptoms of MDD but just last a lot longer. Not many people seek help and that is why I think the suicide rate is going up.

My final point is how to get help if you feel depressed or ways to help get out of depression. If you are feeling depressed then you should find some help, some people that will help are the people close to you because they know you the best. Some ways to get out of a depression is get exercise because that will get you out of your comfort zone and help you interact with people and get you mind off of things for a bit, it will possibly make you a happier person also.

In conclusion, those are my four points of depression and also how to get help if you are suffering with depression. Depression is a serious thing and should be taking seriously because it is affecting millions of Americans and other people worldwide.

Suicide Matter

The libertarian notion of freedom is grounded in self ownership and the fact that people have certain rights; one of those rights being that you should be allowed to do what you want with what you own. Others should not be allowed to stop you, and this is why libertarians hate paternalistic laws and moral legislation laws. Those laws could potentially get in the way of people doing what they want with what they own if it clashes with what society thinks is “moral”. Kant agrees for the most part agrees with libertarians but disagrees with their idea of freedom. His idea of freedom is very different than the libertarian idea of freedom. The libertarians look at freedom as an absence of obstacles (like paternalistic laws, or moral legislation laws) but Kant’s idea of freedom is “to act autonomously”, basically by a law you give yourself rather than acting based on your desires or as he calls it, being a “slave to our appetites and desires”. I think personally. with Kants theory, it’s nearly impossible to know whether or not people’s actions are “free” and “autonomous”. I just can’t stop thinking about the example with the store clerk; there is no way I would know his motivation behind giving the person the right amount of change back. As far as whether or not his notion that freedom is inextricably bound up with duty; if you believe in all the definitions he gives of what freedom is, and what duty is, then this idea makes sense. Personally, I think of freedom in more of a libertarian way (like I think most do), and my definition of “duty” falls more under being accountability of whatever role it is that you’re playing. So, if I think of the terms in my “normal” way, I wouldn’t say they are inextricably connected.

I’m going to start with what I think is the easier one to understand, and that is that a libertarian would be all for assisted suicide/euthanasia. They are against any sort of paternalistic laws (ones that protect people from harming themselves) and moral laws that get in the way of a person doing what they want with their property. They see their freedom as being blocked by laws, but this is different than what Kant believes is freedom (exactly what I spoke about it question number one).

If Kant were to chime in on the physician assisted suicide matter, he would say it’s immoral. First of all, Kant believes we have a “duty” to live and defines duty as doing the right thing for the right reason. Basically, to live morally you have to be living for “the right reasons” (I don’t know what those would be). From what I understand, according to him, it would be wrong to be living according to your “appetites and desires”; this he calls a “motive of inclination”. A person who is wanting to end their own life is not acting autonomously, because something must be making that person act upon their desire to avoid pain (could be biological desire; it would make no difference to Kant). Also, if we look at it from the doctors side, Kant would argue that the doctor is acting heteronomously, because he’s “doing something for the sake of something else for the sake of something else”. I find the libertarian argument more convincing, but I don’t completely agree with either of them.

Melancholy and Suicide

C.C. Baxter is an insurance office busy-body working in New York. He lives in an apartment on the Upper West Side of the city, which he allows 4 of his office managers to use for their affairs. C.C. hopes to influence their favor to climb the corporate ladder, but though the managers mildy recommend him, they don’t respect him and they make it very clear that their kindness towards him starts and stops with his apartment. When Jeff Sheldrake, the director in charge of promotions, gets wind of C.C.’s scheme, he insists on using the apartment as well. Little does C.C. know that Sheldrake is using his apartment to get back in the good graces of Ms. Kubelik, a elevator operator for whom C.C. is falling for; little does Fran know that Sheldrake promises to divorce his wife and change for the better are hollow and false.

Though “The Apartment” contains its fair share of melancholic moments, it’s mostly a dark comedy, filled with jokes about cheating and suicide. But even at the film’s funniest, screenwriters I.A.L. Diamond and Wilder never shy away from the gross realities of human nature, such as the awful feeling of being rejected by someone you love, or the belief that death is the only way out of an emotional hardship. Most importantly, “The Apartment” perfectly captures the casual dehumanization of modern corporate culture.

But Sheldrake and Kubelik are the two main love interests of the film, even when they’re making life difficult for themselves. They’re both clearly stuck in a rut, hoping that easy fixes and shortcuts will help dig them out of their own holes, but knowing it won’t be enough. It’s why scenes like Fran’s suicide attempt or C.C. and Fran beginning their rummy game still contains quite a bit of distress. It knows that there are no guarantees in life, but the least you can do is put your head down and work through the tough times in life.

The story takes place during the holidays, when the city is at its most joyous. Yet this is a brutal time if you have no loved one or family to spend it with. Thus, the melancholy of the season for the lonely, and the city’s cold and wet streets, this can be seen as Baxter aimlessly walks through the night. Add to that Wilder’s impeccable framing, focusing on the characters emotional isolation. Baxter’s dream is a high seated job, so he perhaps one day can take care of a family of his own just like Mr. Sheldrake. Fran, on the other hand, is seeking security in the form of marriage, however she is digging herself into a rut in believing that Sheldrake would indeed leave his current spouse as he often tells her in an attempt to console her. You might not think a movie about a man who lends his apartment to the married coworkers of his office as a place for their secret affairs would make a particularly enjoyable or morally presentable show, especially when the C.C. uses this to advance his career. On a school morning, do you arise feeling sufficiently rested prepared to study, or even undertake the day? More than likely not. Roughly 1 in 10 teenagers in the United States get the 8 to 10 hours of rest per night urged by sleep specialists and doctors. This indicates that in the approximately 42,000,000 teenagers in our country, only about 4,200,000 get the amount of sleep they require. This is due to the fact that numerous schools - private or public - begin around 7:30 a.m. or even sooner, notwithstanding the recommendation from major medical organizations. As Americans, we must take action against the issue of school starting early for teenagers because of medical reasons and the consequences of sleep deprivation.

Throughout the course of puberty, a delay takes place in the youth's circadian rhythm (a person's biological clock), which is what causes them to feel tired or awake at certain times that seem unusual to adults. In fact, where melatonin secretion starts at 9 p.m. in adults and younger children, it does not occur until 11 p.m. for teenagers, therefore rousing an adolescent at 6 a.m. is the physiological equivalent of waking an adult up at 4 a.m. Also, we have to consider that it is normal for teenagers to sleep a lot because their bodies and brains are growing. They are subject to many hormonal changes, making them tired. In other words, 'they are in a time of very fast physical, intellectual growth.'

Very often, the products of chronic sleep deprivation are confused with characteristics of being 'just a teenager'. However, research has shown that what we shall name moodiness, laziness, irritability, and depression, are all results of lack of sleep. In fact, the brain development being perturbed by sleeplessness is responsible for impulsive and risky behaviors. As soon as teens get less than 9 hours of sleep, they are at risk of poor performance at school, and personal injury through accidents. Starting school later would prevent having sleepy teens on the road, and increasing deadly accidents. Where many teachers question students' concentration in the classroom, they should question the amount of sleep the students received. Their concentration plummets to the point of showing behavioral signs mimicking ADHD. The outcomes go even farther; it contributes to many mental illnesses such as depression, the use of substances, and suicide. Scientists found that 'each hour of lost sleep was associated with a 38 percent increase in the risk of feeling sad or hopeless and a 58 percent increase in suicide attempts'. If these were not enough, additional issues tormenting the nation are physical health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.

To all antagonists who believe that a later school time would only result in a later bedtime, the truth is, teens' bedtimes remain the same but with additional time to sleep. This results in higher academic achievments, more concentration, fewer absences and dropouts, less emotional rollercoasters, and an overall better life. Next time there is a time change and you get an extra hour of sleep, and you feel rejuvenated by that extra hour of rest, think about our teenagers, and what a gift that would be for them.

Some research has shown that there are two main coping mechanisms for depression: professional help (therapy) and prescriptions drugs. I believe that consulting a psychologist is the best mechanism for depression because a psychiatrist will push meds, instead, of really trying to evaluate the problem. For example, PTSD patients are influenced to take antidepressants along with other drugs rather than talking about what they had seen during the war to elevate symptoms. Talking to an individual who knows nothing about you, but will choose to hear your story from a unique stand, and determine their opinion with the least bias.

This route can impact an individual original path in a multitude of ways. On many occasions, I feel as if I have no one to talk to, only because I want to be heard without judgment, and because I can’t receive that from family, I seek it elsewhere. Once I consulted with someone they helped me in ways that I never thought I could be helped. I know someone that lost their nephew’s mother due to suicide. Even though her family was well aware of her depression, the thought of her committing suicide never crossed their minds. She took antidepressants to enhance her mood, which in the end weren’t working for her at all instead, they’ve been numbing her pain. She cried out for help on many occasions but no one caught how bad she had fallen until it was too late.

If this woman had just one person to talk to about all the difficulties within her life, the results could’ve been different. Hiding emotions behind drugs, even if they are prescribed, isn’t the best option, numbing the pain isn’t getting the problem out in the open which can do much more harm than good to any individual, and I'm a living proof of this matter. Spielmans, Berman, & Usitalo conducted many case studies that analyzed psychotherapy and antidepressants to see which was more effective. Even though the researchers favored psychotherapy, they came to the conclusion that bona fide psychotherapy was in fact as effective as second-generation antidepressants during the short-term treatment for depression.

Psychotherapy was also more effective than second-generation antidepressants during long-term symptoms of depression (Spielmans, Berman, Usitalo). There were fifteen case studies conducted, which consisted of 1,975 participants. In regard to response, remission rates, depression outcomes, and study completion rates, there weren’t many significant differences found between both psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy (Spielmans et al.). According to Spielmans, Berman, and Usitalo (2011) bona fide psychotherapies portrayed similar success in short-term (d=-0.05, p=0.57, I2=68.32%) and rather better effectiveness on depression rating scales at follow-up (d=0.29, p=0.01, I2=30.29%).

To Attempt Suicide if Teenagers have Depression

There are many reasons why life skills should be taught in public schools. For instance, when you go into the workforce you will need to be polite and get along with your coworkers. How are parents supposed to teach their children to get along with others if they only ever see their own family? The answer is they can’t, in public schools children can learn to get along with everyone, not just their family or friends. Several parents work a lot and don't have time to cook or haven’t been taught to cook. As a result, many families eat a lot of fast food. If more people learn simple cooking skills, they’d be likely to cook more homemade, healthier meals. In public schools, students would have the time to learn this. Therefore possibly lowering obesity rates. Lastly, first aid is a useful life skill. Basic first aid could be the difference between life and death. In Michigan it is required for teachers to know first aid. If all teachers in Michigan know first aid then any teacher could teach a basic first aid class, whereas only about 34% of parents have gone to a first aid class. Manners, time management, cooking skills, and first aid are just some of the very useful life skills that would be taught if we had life skill classes.

Some people might believe that life skills don't belong in school. A lot of people argue that parents should teach their kids life skills. But, some parents can’t. According to an American Time Use Survey conducted in 2018 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, an average full-time employed American spends 8.5 hours working on weekdays. They spend not even an hour on any children in their household. How are parents supposed to teach life skills to their children when they don't even spend an hour with their focus primarily on that child? Another thing people say is that the other subjects might be taught less. But, life skills doesn’t have to be a mandatory class, it could be an elective. Elective classes are ones you can pick, you don't have to have them. Many more reasons could be presented to contradicted schools teaching life skills, but they can all be refuted as easily as this.

Teaching life skills to children could save lives. 20% of adolescents have depression. If children learn how to deal with depression or how to notice the signs of depression they could help their friends or get help themselves. Teenagers are 12 times more likely to attempt suicide if they have depression. Others at school might also struggle with depression. With those other students, they could talk about their depression and help each other work through it. If life skills were taught, then more people wouldn’t just live but they would live happier knowing those around them are happy too.

A Suicide Attempt

Dr. Alice Howland was a linguistics professor at Columbia, and during her daily run she begins to notice that she’s going blind to her surroundings and forgetting small things like words and names. She realizes that she’s forgetting these things and decides to go see a neurologist alone. She thinks that it’s a brain tumor, but there was nothing wrong with her MRI, but the doctor did tell her that she had a decline in level of mental function. She had a PET scan done to check for Alzheimer’s disease, and the doctor noticed that she had high amyloid in her brain for about seven years. She was prescribed Aricept and Namenda to help treat her disease. Alice has a rare familial Alzheimer’s that may have been passed down from her father, and is now passed down to her oldest daughter, Anna. Her son Tom is negative, and her other daughter Lydia doesn’t want to know if she has the disease or not. Alice now has to wear a bracelet that says “mentally impaired.” She makes a video in a folder called “butterfly” telling her future self that if her sickness ever gets so bad that she has a backup plan; a suicide attempt, she was to swallow all of her pills with water. “Butterfly” comes from the necklace that her mom gave her and her mom said “butterflies only live to be a month.” One day, Alice is going through her computer and notices the butterfly folder and watches the video and does exactly what it says to do. When she is finally going to take the pills, her caregiver, Elena, walks in the house and Alice drops all the pills on the floor. Her youngest daughter Lydia moves home from the LA area to take care of her.

Something I learned about Alzheimer’s is that it can come early on, I always thought that it came to people when they were about 70-80 years old. I also didn’t know that the disease is genetic, I thought it just struck whoever it wanted to. Another thing I learned about Alzheimer’s is that you can forget anything and everything, I always thought that you could remember things that happened before you were diagnosed.

The main difference between early onset Alzheimer’s and Alzheimer’s is that early onset Alzheimer’s occurs during a person’s 40-50 years of life, while Alzheimer’s comes later around 60-70 years into a person’s life. Early onset Alzheimer’s affects the APP, PSEN1, or PSEN2 genes, while late onset Alzheimer’s affects the APOE gene.

My feelings on Alice’s suicide attempt were very deep because of the fact that I had a cousin that was suicidal. It was very sad to me that Alice wanted to take her own life because she had a family who supported her so much throughout her journey, but at the same time it occured to me that she didn’t remember making that video and she didn’t know any better than to listen to what her past self was telling her to do. When Elena walked in and Alice dropped her pills it was a moment of relief for me, and probably for the rest of my classmates.

Something I took away from this movie is to value every single moment you have with your loved ones and your peers because who knows what they may be facing. Life is too short to treat others with disrespect and everyone deserves to be loved and cared for.

Mental Illnesses and Suicide Rates

All the bright places was challenged in 2016 but did not get banned. The book was challenged in a sophomore class due to parents believing it was pornographic. Due to a few mentions of fornication and suicide, parents and teachers where claiming it was inappropriate for students be reading at school. This book shows multiple different mental illnesses through a story that students can relate to. Mental illness is a current problem and needs to be talked about. Students are already generally exposed to these topics in the environment of their daily lives. For students who are not as educated in these topics, a book is an easy way to start a discussion so changes can be made and stigmas throughout our world can be transformed through a better education. Serious consequences have already occurred throughout the world due to nobody talking about fornication and suicide.

In the challenge, the claims where that it was inappropriate for a high school age person to be reading this material. If we are not able to even start the conversation of what is going on in our world, how do we expect the teens to lead our world someday. Some adults claim to say that this is going to be a topic that needs to be introduced in college, but teenage years are some of the most important years for development both physically and mentally. The percentage of mental illnesses is rising along with the suicide rates. Most people struggling with a mental illness are too afraid to get help or don't know that they need professional help. Students have the right to be more educated about what is going on in this world, it is what they will need to be equip to help our world become better.

If this generation can't handle the world problems through a book than how are we supposed to prepare them for what is to come. Suicides are only increasing as more time passes and on average one in four people will or are suffering from a nuerological disease or mental illness. Over 450 million people are currently suffering from some sort of mental illness. This is just the people that have reported and admitted to the mental illness, others around them are affected by their mental illness. These are just a few reasons why it is essential that we let our students learn about what is happening in their world.

Did you know that 14.8 million americans suffer from depression? Depression is a side effect of low self esteem. Depression is feelings of severe despondency and dejection. This basically means being sad or being in a low spirit all the time.

Depression usually starts during childhood. However most people don't actually act depressed or become depressed till they are in there late teens to early 20s. Depression is a lot more common now than it ever has been in adults and teens. Studies show that people in the 2010’s are a lot more likely than in the 1980’s when the last study was taken. 2010’s kids also are 38% more likely to have trouble remember stuff and 78% more likely to have trouble sleeping.

Some studies say one of the reasons depression is getting worst in modern people then it was back in the day is because of technology and social media. The studies say because so many people are on social media and post pictures of themselves so people will like them more or think of them a different way. Studies show that people who use the most social medias (seven to 11) had more than three times the risk of depression as those who don't.

Depression is the cause of about 30,000 suicides per year in the USA. Untreated depression in the top risk for suicide with kids. And suicide is the number 3 leading cause of death for 15-24 years olds males behind homicide and car accidents. It is also the 4th leading cause of death for 10-14 year olds.

DBSA says, Up to 80% of those treated for depression show an improvement in their symptoms generally within four to six weeks of beginning medication.” Meaning if you have depression more likely than not on the right medicine and treatments you can be better within 6 weeks. However even knowing this 2 out of 3 people with depression won't go see help about it and never get better. And for the 20% of people who don't get better in the 6 weeks 50% of the time it's because they won't take their medicine.

So all in all depression is dangerous and if you have it tell someone because more than likely if you do what your told then you can get better. Maybe if the 14.8 million americans that had depression just talked about their problems to someone and got the help they needed it wouldn't be such a big problem anymore. And as an result of this there would be less suicides.

Americans are dying every day because of the killing machines that our government is handing out to us. Guns are the #1 method of death by homicide and suicide in the US. They are rarely used in self-defense, they are often stolen by criminals, and by getting rid of guns, we would get rid of gun tragedies. Without gun control, American civilians will keep dying and that’s on us. Therefore, private civilians should not have the right to own guns in the United States.? Getting rid of guns would get rid of gun deaths. “About two-hundred Americans go to emergency rooms everyday with gunshot wounds.” a study published in the American Journal of Public Health. Seventy-three thousand people could be saved from the traumatic experience. What about school shootings and terrorist attacks? More than eight-hundred people were injured while enjoying a Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas in 2017 and fifty-nine died, all because a man with a few guns was having a bad week. In February of 2018, 17 students and staff died at their school in Parkland, Florida, just because a student wanted to try out his new AR-15. There have been twenty-three school shootings in 2018 alone. Europe once a had school shooting like the US, but they don’t have them anymore. Is it safe to go to school without gun control?

Guns are rarely used in self-defense. Of the eighty-four million, four hundred, ninety-five thousand, five hundred, property crimes committed between 2007 and 2011, only 0.12% of victims protected themselves with use or a threat of use of a firearm. Guns are not worth all the damage that they cause. Lives are ruined and taken away so a measly percent of a percentage can use their firearm to protect themselves. You can save one, or you can save hundreds of thousands.? Legally owned guns are often stolen and used by criminals. If you think a background check will fix all the problems, you’re wrong. In the last decade, over 2.5 million guns have been stolen from US homes/vehicles during property crimes, that makes a yearly average of two hundred thirty two thousand, four hundred.

That’s over two hundred thousand now illegal guns floating around the streets of your country, not knowing who has one, why they stole it, or who their next victim is. This next statement was from a website that is against gun control, “People without guns are assaulted or murdered daily by criminals who have guns.” Let me ask you this, why did our government give those criminals an easy way to get a gun?? My opponent may say that we are allowed to bear arms under the 2nd amendment. I agree with that statement. Our 2nd amendment reads, “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bare arms, shall not be infringed.” This amendment gives us no right to keep and bare arms on any normal occasion, but only in emergencies to supplement a regular army when ours is inoperative. If we are not in a war, we do not need guns.? The US gun homicide rate is twenty five times higher than any other high income country in the world. Seriously, you can buy a gun at Walmart, without any background check, for as little as a hundred dollars. What does it have to come to for things to change??

This article discussed research conducted to determine the mental health problems, substance use, and suicide ideations among teen males and females that have been cyberbullied. The researchers wanted to know if cyberbullying affected males or females more. Cyberbullying among teens is becoming more and more widespread because of the increase of internet availability and the increased use of social media. Working in a middle school, I constantly hear about things that students are posting about their peers on social media. I often wonder how many times negative comments on social media turn into cyberbullying.

Discussion

Adolescence is a difficult time for many teens and unfortunately, some develop mental health issues, substance use, suicide ideations, and poor behaviors (Kim, Kimber, Boyle, and Georgiades, 2018). Cyberbullying through social media is one reason for mental health issues in teenagers. The hypothesis in this research was that teen girls would have more mental health issues than teen boys and teen boys would show more negative behaviors than teen girls when cyberbullied (Kim et al., 2018). To test the hypothesis, 10,398 students from various schools and classes completed surveys. It was later determined that only 4,940 responses would be used for the research.

The survey assessed for several issues that could be a result of cyberbullying such as mental health problems, illegal drug use, and thoughts of suicide. The results of the study indicated that more teen girls experienced cyberbullying that teen boys (Kim et al., 2018). Both girls and boys that have been cyberbullied are more likely to have an increase in mental distress, suicidal thoughts, and negligent behaviors, and the numbers were higher for girls. Among teens that have been cyberbullied, girls are more likely to use drugs and alcohol as a result than boys are.

This research aligned with previous research, which suggests that teen girls are more likely to have mental health issues that teen boys are (Kim et al., 2018). Teen girls use social media more than boys do and that makes girls more likely to be cyberbullied than boys are. However, this research did have some shortcomings. The findings were based off adolescents answering questions and not by any mental health professionals (Kim et al., 2018). The teenagers may not have understood the meaning of some of the questions and therefore may not have answered questions correctly. More research needs to be conducted to confirm this current research on teens being cyberbullied (Kim et al., 2018).

Conclusion

In conclusion, I think research on cyberbullying is important because it is becoming very common in today’s society. As parents and professionals, we need to be aware of what is causing our youth mental distress, substance use, suicidal ideations, and negligent behaviors. Having this knowledge will further equip parents, educators, mental health professionals, and others to develop preventatives to assist our youth in having healthy and productive lives.

Although treatment, expertise, and knowledge, are available at no financial burden, all these become ineffective if patients and their family do not seek for heap early, don’t provide correct needed information, and don’t follow the treatment. These types of non-cooperation is quite common in the case of leprosy44. There are many reasons that falls from stigma they face. Fear of disease, guilt, discrimination, prejudice, and lowered self-esteem force affected individuals and their family to hide the disease and delay proper treatment, which then further promotes transmission of the disease45.

As mentioned in the medical branch, the psychological and psychosocial problems arise due to stigma and this must be addressed firmly at every level, especially at the primary level46. That is when patient first suspects disease and becomes worried for following symptoms. When there are negative reactions from their surrounding (ie. Family, friends, and community), patient’s overall psychological state declines in a faster rate26. This is very serious because suicidal thoughts come after the diagnosis of leprosy for many patients, and there are lot of patients who committed suicide in hospitals and at home due to extreme psychosocial stress and depression47.

To combat these issues, proper counseling and positive health-seeking habits are critical, and psychosocial support by the family to report and start treatment will ensure complete cure and thus less transmission. Occupational therapists have a special role in reeducation and r reorientation to patients who cannot continue their earlier jobs due to anesthesia or deformities48. The best medical and surgical care still needs strong psychosocial support. Stigma is primarily strong in social participation restrictions, which interfere with the role and dignity of the affected person19. If the affected person loses their job, resulting in economic hardship, the ego suffers further49. There is still a need for special counseling, inclusive care, job opportunities, and restoration of a person’s dignity, resulting in maintaining quality of life. Competent career counselors and guidance in making the right choices for independence are essential to prevent the downward slide of the deformed patient. As far as possible, rehabilitation must be prevented through family counseling and support. Despite the best medical and psychological care, there is still a need for a proper environment to be created, and this is detailed in the third arm of the multifaceted strategy.

Conclusion

Although stigma towards leprosy is a complex and persistent problem, it is possible to achieve a measurable reduction using reproducible interventions. The different interventions can be used independently, but like clinical multidrug therapy, stigma should be addressed through social multi-faceted approaches that address different levels and aspects of stigma. It is also important to address both the source of stigma, which usually includes community attitudes and their lack of knowledge, cultural and religious beliefs, but also attitudes and behavior of professionals in health and social services. For most efficient outcome, it is essential to adapt interventions to local circumstances. In addition, consideration of the substantial differences between affected people in their experience of stigma and their ability to cope with the consequences. This is important because everyone varies on how much they can handle these extreme social stresses. Most importantly, stigma and discrimination do not magically disappear by themselves. They require specifically and carefully planned and targeted strategies.

Social media plays a negative role in the way we look at our bodies or the way others look at them. When people look at their bodies and are ashamed of them they will usually photoshop their pictures to try and make their bodies perfect. The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD) discovered that 30 million people of all ages have or are suffering from an eating disorder in the United States. They are doing this to try and have the perfect body in their mind and what they think the guys will like. This is leading to a death every 62 minutes. The Journal of Adolescent Health published a study that proved that negative body imaging was leading to some young women to suicide. France is creating a new law to try and get rid of the public health issue.

The issue is that 600,000 people are suffering from eating disorders. The law is saying that if an image or photo was altered to make a model look skinnier, have a bigger butt, or to have abs needs to be labeled as so. Following France, Getty Images, one of the largest photo agencies in the United States banned people from sending in pictures that have been altered to make the model look smaller or bigger in any way. The child and adolescent psychiatrist Gayani DeSilvia M.D. said, “Anytime people internalize an impossible-to-attain goal, it leads to feeling inadequate and developing poor self-esteem.” Today's society is full of unreal expectations of what people’s bodies are supposed to look like. Dr. Lynn Anderson says, “We should be promoting health and fitness instead of skin and bones as the ideal.

” Some boys and men want to hold women to these “perfect body” standards by seeing what they see on social media. These boys and men looking for a woman with these standards are looking for a unicorn, they don’t exist. Jennifer L. Derenne, M.D. and Eugene V. Beresin, M.D. M.A. worked on a study that explored how our idea of beauty has historically been formed by social context and difficult to achieve. They both suggested for parents to limit the social media their child sees and encourage them to do more physical activity instead and to participate in other activities to boost their self-esteem. Some of the social media can be avoided and some you just can’t avoid. You can choose what tv shows you watch and which magazines you read. You can’t really avoid the ads you see posted around your area. Someday everyone will be celebrating women of all shapes and sizes.

Students’ Tend to do Drastic Decisions

Change is constant. There are lot differences in the behavior of the 21st century students’ from the students’ decades ago, but there are some similarities. During the 21st century, the students’ behaviors are referred as a “challenging behavior” due to the struggle that the teacher faced. Those challenging behaviors are cheating, defiance, sniping remarks (ex., criticizing others) and improper use of gadgets (ex., using cell phones inside the classroom), tardiness and skipping classes. The students’ are getting less and less patient each passing day while disobedience, arrogance, rudeness and aggression are rising. Borsuk (2016) quoted an email on the article entitled “kids these days… educators sound off on students’ behavior” saying that the behavior of the students’ are getting worse as time passed by. 21st century students with this kind of behavior usually irritate their teacher or instructor. They became a challenge to their teachers.

There are reasons why 21st century students’ have that kind of behavior. The first reason is lack of attention is one of the reasons why students’ of the 21st century have that kind of behavior. Thus, some of the students’ are seeking for attention but their parents are not capable to give it to them that lead to challenging behavior. The next is environment that they are in; students’ that are exposed in violence have a tendency that they might do the same thing to others. According to Thomas et al. (2006) students’ environment has a contribution on how the students’ socialize and it also promotes aggressive behavior. The next is technology it became an instrument to cyber-bullying. It is totally a distraction to the students. In additional, video games have a negative impact to the student because they become aggressive and violent. Social media also affects the behavior of the students. The next is peer pressure because the students’ might involve themselves on self-harm or thought about the idea of suicide. Students’ tend to do drastic decisions that put their safety at risk.

In contrast, some of the 21st century students are optimistic, attentive, cooperative, creative, future oriented, they are eager to learn and well-mannered. As mentioned, 21st students want to learn new things and they tend to ask so many questions looking for answer to their curiosity. They embrace every possible change that might occur. They take every problem that they might encounter positively. They are active when it comes to learning. They empower themselves to be a better person. They are also wise in it comes to choosing the best solutions to their problem.

No Motive and Reasons to Live Anymore

There are many objections due to cryonics. One of the popular objections is cryonics is against nature and God. In the case of cryonics, most people will think that dying is a part of natural cycle and to stop the process of dying by preserving a human body in a storage container filled with liquid nitrogen is immoral. New technologies are often being labelled as “against nature” whereas old technologies such as using the heart defibrillator that restore a person’s heartbeat to normal by giving an electric shock to the heart which its aim is also to prevent dying which is also considered “against nature” are not receiving objections now. People will slowly learn to accept these new technologies. Another objection is about endless life extension will eventually become boring.

The revived person might commit suicide after he/she find no motive and reasons to live anymore. Besides that, the revived person might die again perhaps due to some unpredictable natural causes or by accidents. According to Alcor institution, the cost of cryopreservation is about $28000. Therefore, cryonics are considered costly and it is only affordable to the rich ones. This will create a significant class difference between the rich and the poor as the gap that is created could make a big difference between living for a few decades and living forever. Another objection is that cryonics is considered selfish. Spending loads of money on charity and family members are better than spending all the money on cryonic storage which will be wasteful if it does not work (Shaw, 2009). Another objection will be dystopia. The revivalists might not want revived persons to suffer, but they might want to use them for other purposes such as becoming a labour worker or to be used in scientific experiments. Lastly, the patient who is revived might experience malchronia. This is due to the unfamiliar surroundings and culture shock which will cause the person to experience extreme mental distress and causing the patient to become discomfort.

Conclusion

If the damages that occur due to aging can be repaired in the future, it is reasonable to think that damages caused by cryonics procedures can also be repaired Cryonics may be the only hope for people living today to seek for future medical advices and services to cure their diseases. Time will probably become irrelevant when death can be prevented using cryonics. Cryonics should be highly promoted to researchers in order to encourage them to pursue on the field of cryonics. Further academic work should be done to increase the possibilities of cryonics to happen in the future. Although Cryonics is just a science based on future advancement of science and technology, but to continue living in the future does seem to have some advantages. At present, there are only two choices after death which are either burial or cremation but cryonics might be the third choice to skip death. Objections about whether cryonics is morally permitted or it is immoral should be discussed and solved. Cryonics should be further studied, appreciated and it should be seen as a form of life support to extend a person life’s span and fight against death. Therefore, more support and research opportunities should be given to the area of cryonics to fully uncover its potential.

Educational Leadership: Collaborating to Inspire a Vision of Student Success

ABSTRACT Educational leadership is indeed a craft that is not done effectively without a multi-dimensional approach. I believe that in order to have a positive impact on our students to help them find their unique gifts and talents to be successful adults, educational leaders need to be effective at creating a path to support our learners. As an educational leader, I will use my heart as a guide to foster relationships with others to empower them to want to have the confidence to be champions for students. I will share a vision towards positive change and inspire others to follow by modeling the way. I will take an open-minded approach to leadership, ensuring to collaborate with all diverse stakeholders to create a climate of trust that will result in a positive approach to change. I also hold the belief that adequate leadership is a constant work in progress, continual improvement and sharpening of skills is necessary to keep up with educational trends as they evolve. Educational leadership is a responsibility. It cannot be just words, but driven by actions to support the language one uses. Huber (2004) adds that this responsibility is one that determines “development of a positive school culture”, which is of utmost important in terms of student achievement. People can be said to have good or bad leadership, but it cannot be summed up into a one-dimensional term. In more likely terms, a person may be bad in an aspect of leadership, but I believe that every individual performs at least one aspect of leadership effectively.

These leadership qualities are not developed all at once, but improved upon with time. Educational leadership is not something that one ever achieves perfection at, but continues to improve upon with time and the ever-changing trends within education. The purpose for educational leadership is manifold; it has to create educational success for students through a rich learning environment while delegating responsibilities to empower others to carry out the mission for our students. I believe that educational leadership encompasses multiple dimensions of ethics and values and is an endless cycle of collaboration that needs continuous improvement to be effective. The verse from John 3:30, “He must become greater; I must become less,” is the truest way to represent my philosophy of leadership. PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP Theorists have different visions on leadership and why it is necessary. In educational leadership, it makes sense that leaders support the behavioral theory of leadership. Behavior theorists believe that leadership skills can be improved upon with education, training, and experiences. As an educator who believes that students are all capable of finding their unique gifts and talents, I also support that as leaders we can improve upon the skills necessary to be effective at reaching goals as a leader.

Additional theories, such as the trait theory also suggest that a leader is made up of inherent, specific traits necessary to lead others. I do agree that there are certain traits that are necessary to be an effective educational leader, but over time and with attention to improving these skills one can become leadership worthy. Another theory is that leaders are simply born, not made.

Amanchukwu, Stanley, and Ololube (2015) refer to this as the “Great Man” theory, in which a person either has leadership qualities at birth or not at all. I tend to disagree with this approach, as I can attest that even within my own self that my leadership qualities have improved with each additional opportunity I have undertaken. Using a philosophy that aligns with the Christian School Leadership Framework (2014) is most desirable to me. The framework models three major categories to educational leadership- leadership from the heart, relational competencies, and strategic competencies. I believe to fulfill a position of leadership effectively; one must lead from the heart, with ethics and character in mind. Following the behavioral theory of leadership, I expect relational competencies are also integral to ensure leadership is a team effort. Finally, strategic competencies needed to manage tasks also come into play. LEADERSHIP PRACTICES With a belief in the relational model of leadership, I will focus on five primary goals as mentioned by Komives, Lucas, and McMahon in their book, Exploring Leadership for College Students Who Want to Make A Difference (1998). My first leadership goal will be to include others. I will make collaboration a top priority to ensure a rich culture of backgrounds are used to ensure all have the opportunity to make a difference in our school community. I will also work to empower others, to help them build their confidence in their own leadership skills.

Challenging others to take responsibility for tasks where their own talents can shine will be necessary to empower. Next I will be purposeful, modeling the vision at every step. This will require a positive attitude and open-mindedness to new ideas and a pathway to a clear mission and vision. I will also work to follow an ethical lifestyle, ensuring good character is a priority and an expectation that I have of others. Finally, I will work to be process-oriented. I should remain organized and able to effectively collaborate, providing warm and cool feedback to challenge self-improvement of others. These aspects of leadership are also supported by the practices in Kouzes & Posner’s, The Leadership Challenge (2017), in which the authors see leaders as people who can “ model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart.” It is by using these strategies that I hope to use my skills in educational leadership to help our youth discover their unique gifts and talents through positive school climate and rich academic instruction. RELATIONSHIPS Kouzes & Posner (2017) maintain, “Collaboration is a critical competency for achieving and sustaining high performance.” This means that educational leaders should have the passion to want to create a unified vision for their organization, but also the collaborative skills necessary to create a climate of trust amongst faculty members. In creating a climate of trust the leader should seek to get input from all parties involved in changes.

For instance, in a situation where an educational leader seeks to change the climate of a school, they should seek input from faculty, students, parents, and other school stakeholders to truly make a positive impact. In Proverbs 27:17, (The English Standard Version) it says, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another”. Without collaboration with invested parties, the climate of trust would be broken and one could inadvertently breed cynicism in those that are responsible for supporting the vision. As an educational leader who seeks input from others, faculty members will also be more apt to share ideas that could result in continued positive improvement of the organization. DIVERSITY With collaboration, comes diversity. Leaders need to also be open-minded to diverse opinions and feedback. “Rapidly changing demographics demand that we engage in a vigorous, ongoing, and systemic process of professional development to prepare all educators in the school to function effectively in a highly diverse environment”(Howard, 2007). I believe an educational leader needs to look towards diversity factors such as gender, race, socioeconomic status, and educational backgrounds as opportunities for excellence. Student populations are diverse and it only seems fitting that as leaders, we select faculty that also represents a diverse population. In Hebrews 12:14 (The English Standard Version) the Bible tells us to, “Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.” With various backgrounds, a leader can serve populations that they do not have personal experience with, by simply soliciting input from others. Collaborating with diverse populations creates a rich culture where all students and faculty feel accepted.

This acceptance can only increase the motivation to uphold the vision of the school. CONCLUSION In conclusion, educational leadership at its core requires not only one person; but also a vast team of diverse individuals with a passion for reaching a shared vision. It is with this thinking, that I hope to reach my goals as an educational leader. I hope to use relationships with others to reach challenging goals and to evoke positive change within an organization. For with this relational model of leadership I can reach the greater good and truly uphold the teaching of John by making others greater, and focusing on myself less. For me this is the only philosophy towards being a truly effective educational leader, helping me to ensure the futures of all of the students I will serve. Che Guevara is Widely Known Latin American Revolutionary Leader

Throughout Latin American history, there have been a large amount of revolutionary leaders. Some are exceptionally famous such as Simon Bolivar, and Francisco de Miranda, but none of those are as well known as, none other than Ernesto Guevara, or Che Guevara. Che Guevara is one of the most, if not the most iconic Latin American revolutionary leader. Che Guevara is widely known for what he achieved and what he believed in, however, he is also a controversial figure. Some believe that he is a legend and an idol, while others believe that he is a failure and oppose him.

To start off, Che Guevara was born in Argentina in the city of Rosario in the year of 1928 as Ernesto Guevara de la Serna. He was a “theoretician and tactician of guerrilla warfare, prominent communist figure in the Cuban Revolution, and guerrilla leader in South America” (Brittanica). Although he was an athlete and a medical scholar, when he had the chance, he often travelled around Latin America. He viewed Latin America “not as a collection of separate nations, but as a cultural and economic entity” (Brittanica). He believed that the only way to liberate Latin America was to revolt with violence. He eventually went on a long journey to many Latin American countries that lasted a little more than half a year, where he had many encounters that turned him into a Marxist. First, he saw Jacobo Arbenz be overthrown from Guatemalan presidency and later met Fidel Castro, who at the time was trying to free Cuba from dictatorship. These events were the focal points of his admiration for the Soviet Union and his belief in Marxism (PBS).

Che Guevara represented the freedom of Cuba from dictaroship. Che Guevara ended up siding with Castro and wanted to liberate Cuba from Fulgencio Batista. He fought in the mountains so well that he earned Castro’s respect and earned himself a higher ranking. Guevara took over the city of Santa Clara in 1958 when he took over a train that had many of Batista’s men. This was the final attack on the Batista’s dictatorship (PBS). After this, people saw him along with Fidel Castro and his brother, as the most powerful Cuban leaders.

Che Guevara went on to become an overseer of executions in prison where he personally harmed and questioned the prisoners. He also became the Minister of Industries and was criticized by the CIA for taking Cuba’s economy to its lowest point while Castro was in power. Eventually, Guevara left Cuba, ended his Cuban citizenship, and went to Bolivia in an effort to start revolutionaries there (PBS). However, things did not go according to plan. Guevara ended being caught by the CIA in 1967 and was executed. (PBS).

Many people nowadays either praise or oppose Guevara.

General George S. Patton: One of the Greatest Military Leaders

General George S. Patton Jr., old “Blood and Guts”, was a megalomaniac with an explosive temper and served as the commander of Third Army during World War II. During that time, he was held as one of the most respected, feared, and despised leaders that the American Army had to offer. To this day, he is arguably one of the best known and most brilliant leaders in American Military history.

Former General of the Army Omar Bradley once stated: “Leadership in a democratic Army means firmness, not harshness; understanding, not weakness; generosity, not selfishness; pride, not egotism” (ADP 6-22, 2012).

To be a leader in the Army it takes someone with the ability to apply personal qualities, talents, and experiences to a complex mix of organizational, situational and mission demands in order to exert influence on an organization, its people and its mission (ADP 6-22, 2012). When you are a leader there is more to the job description than giving orders. It takes a special person to be an effective leader—let alone an effective leader in combat. Imagine being the person who had to give orders that would send thousands of Soldiers into combat where they can be injured or killed. As a leader, knowing and understanding the potential of what can happen to the Soldiers you lead is a heavy burden.

Patton was often accused of being a hard leader, but he knew and understood what actions could result from the orders he gave his Soldiers. After the end of the war, he was visiting wounded Soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital where he said, “If I had been a better general, most of you would not be here.” (Keane, 2012). These are not the words of an uncaring, heartless leader. These are the words of a man who knew that the decisions he made impacted every Soldier he led.

Patton’s intolerance for weakness was one of the main reasons he was viewed as a “hard” commander. Patton was once visiting a field hospital when he encountered a young Soldier, huddled on his cot crying. When Patton asked him what was wrong, the Soldier replied that it was his nerves and that he couldn’t stand the shelling anymore. Patton yelled at the Soldier: “Your nerves…you are just a … coward, … Shut up…I won’t have these brave men here who have been shot at seeing a…sitting here crying…” (Keane, 2012). He yelled at the medical staff to not admit the Soldier for continued medical care, since there was nothing wrong with him. He held that hospitals should not be cluttered by those who are too weak and afraid to fight. Patton then ordered the Soldier to go back to the front lines telling him: “you may get shot and killed, but you’re going to fight. If you don’t, I’ll stand you up against a wall and have a firing squad kill you on purpose” (Keane, 2012). Throughout the course of his rant, Patton slapped the Soldier twice, knocking the Soldier’s helmet off his head and into the next tent and even drew a pistol on the young man threatening to kill him.

When you hear the story of “the slap” it is easy to understand why Patton was viewed as a feared, disliked leader and often described as hard and crass. However, while he was extremely unorthodox, there was a reason that Patton did what he did as a leader. Today, the young Soldier would be classified as someone experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, but in those days, it was known as “shell shock” or even “combat-fatigue” which was viewed by many as malingering and cowardice (Keane, 2012). Patton, having many years of combat experience, understood that panic and fear can spread through his formation rendering them ineffective. And an ineffective unit fighting in a war, not only meant losing the battle, but meant losing lives.

When many people think of Patton, they probably think of him as a large man with an even larger commanding presence. While this is true, he could be humble about his actions and even note his humanity. In one interview he stated: “I do a lot of things people don’t give me credit for and I’m not as big a bastard as a lot of people think. The commander of invading troops is under great tension and may do things he later regrets” (Keane, 2012). The fact is, that if a good combat leader is leading his troops he is leading from the front. Patton was the type of General who never shied away from a battle. He often exposed himself to artillery fire and shelling, fighting alongside his Soldiers. He believed that an Army was a team; that it needed to live, sleep, eat, and fight as a team. He never asked his men to do what he was not willing to do himself. He felt the same stress, fears, and concerns that his Soldiers did in combat, but on top of those feelings, he shouldered the burden of leading the Soldiers in battle and driving to win his unit’s portion of the war.

Patton was a very controversial character with a colorful personality, but it what that personality that enabled him to motivate and inspire his Troops. One of the best examples of this is the speech that he gave to the Third Army when then arrived in Europe set to embark on 281 days of combat (Montefiore, 2006). Many of the Soldiers in the audience never experienced battle and had no idea what was waiting for them on the front lines. Though the language was course and riddled with profanity, Patton reminded them why they were there, who they were fighting for, and spoke words that instilled the courage needed for the challenges they would face (Corbett, 2010). He also let them know that they were a unit and that they needed to rely on each other. He spoke of pride, telling them they were the best and were going to win this war (Corbett, 2010). The words he chose and the way he delivered his speech relayed that he believed in them and in the Army and its mission. He was able to influence the men in the audience to believe as he did and provided the motivation they needed as they moved to battle.

Leadership comes more from the character of a person verses knowledge of what leadership is. It springs from intuition and pours from the heart rather than from anything anyone can read on leadership. There is no clear-cut definition of how a leader should act or say. Rather, it depends on the situation they are facing. Patton faced some of the hardest times and had to make some of the most difficult decisions. He was a stubborn, out-spoken disciplinarian, but he earned the respect from his troops due to the care he had for them; his willingness to make sacrifices; and his understanding of his role and the responsibilities that came with it (Montefiore, 2006).

Leadership is an art, there is no recipe on how to be a great leader. George S. Patton was far from perfect, but many of the characteristics that he possessed comprise the ingredient list for what it takes to be a great leader. He may be known for his unorthodox ways, but no one who has ever studied Military Leadership can refute the effectiveness or success that he had throughout his career. For those reasons, he will forever remain one of the great American Military leaders.

My Thoughts about my Leadership Style

INTRODUCTION It is in the culture of human beings to follow a designated purpose in life. Everyone is motivated towards achieving certain goals in life. However, the journey to making this a reality is not a smooth ride, and on the way, most may lose hope, they may lose track and may give up on working for the company. In this case, there ought to exist an ambitious person who will guide, motivate and ensure that there is a strong work ethic.

These are the leaders. Leadership is a process, which entails bringing people together and influencing them to follow a given course in life mostly a real change and mutual purpose to achieve a given result (Ledlow & Stephens, 2018). However, the result is majorly influenced by the manner and approach in which the leader provides direction, implements plans, executes them and inspires the follows. This expounds on the leadership style. From the assessment results, my leadership characteristics come out as a good ambassador, advocate, truth seeker, people mover, creative builder, an experienced guide. These traits tend to show the features of a relationship or people-oriented leadership together with a goal-oriented leader.

This article looks into my leadership characteristics and how they help me fit in a particular health care environment, how they help ensure effective communication, how they enhance my leadership skills as well as solve workplace challenges. WORK ENVIRONMENT The leadership features and approaches portray can be more effective in particular healthcare environments and thus, the choice of leadership style ought to match the situation to ensure that the major objectives are achieved (Northouse, 2018). For example, an ambassador is a persuasive person, respectful and acts as a negotiator a mediator in a nasty situation. In case of a strike from healthcare providers, an ambassador will be persuader and diffuser of such a situation (Girma, 2016). An advocate; is largely logical, rational and convincing this, therefore, shows that I can easily articulate the views of the followers. In this case, I can be able to accommodate a worker’s views and the patients want to ensure that each party is satisfied (Ledlow & Coppola, 2013). A truth seeker is a strong supporter of fairness, value for justice, an equalizer, neutral and competent. There may emanate a scenario in which employees may be taking advantage of patients or any loose ends in the healthcare facility security.

Truth Seekers will identify the root cause and encourage the followers to obey the rules and regulations put into place. As a creative builder, I’m largely self-driven and motivated by the dire need for change. I’m also visionary and encourage new ideas. In a case where a healthcare facility ought to change its operating system, a visionary leader who is a creative builder will be on the foreplay trying to galvanize the new ideas to the employees (Oye, Mekki, Jacobsen & Forland, 2016). A talent mover, on the other hand, are talent-spotters, motivators, mindful of their employees’ lives and nurture their followers. These leaders act as parental figures. They are departmental managers or heads with whom the employees in a department can approach to source advice. Besides, they encourage their followers to see the good in a situation instead of the negative side (Ledlow & Stephens, 2018). The six characteristics reveal me as a careful guide and a person who can give a listening ear to my followers and offer advice on the necessary step. In this case, I can be the best fit as a manager in a healthcare facility.

This is because the combination shows that I’m good at leading people while I can also take into consideration the needs of the patients. The combination also shows that I have strong interpersonal relationships ability, social competence, ability to create and lead a team, manage change and ensure the formation of a good culture (Ledlow & Stephens, 2018). COMMUNICATION In any given organization setting, especially a healthcare facility, the labor force available as characterized by a people of different caliber. Any leader may encounter a certain group of followers who may be easily routine and easy to communicate with while others may be impatient, and over-ambitious (Oye, Mekki, Jacobsen & Forland, 2016). To ensure effective communication with all these people there is a need to ensure that the right communication strategies are applied by the leader. Based on my assessment, it is clear that I’m largely people-oriented hence a good communicator as I can easily advocate for the needs of my team and be an ambassador of what I believe in. However, effective communication entails more than possessing the skills but also making sure that information flows effectively through the organization. This is based on the understanding that for health care professionals to be able to offer services better in a workplace there is need to ensure that information flows effectively (Ledlow & Stephens, 2018). As a truth-seeker, it is clear that I’m attentive to details and an active listener which helps ensure effective communication.

Further, as an advocate, this shows that I’m friendly and easy to interact with people which is therefore essential for effective communication. I’m also highly open mined since as a creative builder and an ambassador one has to take into consideration the ideas and thoughts of other people. However, due to largely being people oriented I may tend to frequently interact with the followers. It is important to understand that people have different personalities and their love relating with others while some may want to keep to themselves. In this case, my leadership or communication style may not be effective to each and everyone in the organization. One of the personalities that would not respond to my leadership style are the introverts or the people who keep to themselves. However, I would use my leadership style to ensure that everyone is accommodated and they feel part of the organization this is through using different communication strategies that suit everyone in the workplace (Ledlow & Stephens, 2018). LEADERSHIP SKILLS Knowledge of strengths and weaknesses that exist is crucial in creating an effective leadership strategy. Initially, a leader ought to have a stipulated vision, which acts as a guide to the followers (Ledlow & Stephens, 2018). Thus, my competencies may help build employee growth and satisfaction at the workplace while not showing much concentration on the organizational goals which is a limitation.

Second, a leader ought to identify the weaknesses and strengths of each follow and delegate tasks according to their strengths. In a healthcare facility, a team would not be built up of employees who have similar skills as it limits the scope of knowledge. Third, the leader ought to uphold ethical standards (Frankel & PGCMS, 2019). Fourth, the leader ought to serve as a role model. Fifth, a leader ought to set achievable goals and a concrete set of activities that will unite and guide every employee. Lastly, a leader ought to eradicate any barriers hindering communication by encouraging every follower to contribute to the decision making process. This will enhance better performance (Ledlow & Stephens, 2018). Based on the leadership characteristics shown, it is clear that I have strong interpersonal skills.

This, therefore, indicates that I’m more of a people or relationship oriented leader. However, it is important to note that according to leadership management grid a good leader is the one who is both people oriented and task oriented.

This means that the most effective leader is the one who focuses on motivating the employees to achieve goals while focusing on the goals and objectives of healthcare. In this case, since I’m more of a people-oriented leader, it is clear that I’m not strong in ensuring focus on goals and objectives (Northouse, 2018). However, I aim to capitalize on my ability for critical thinking skills and as an experienced guide to ensure focus on goals and objectives. Further, as an ambassador, I will seek to ensure that I stand for the organizational goals, the needs of the healthcare professionals and the patients to ensure each of the parties achieve their goals. This is through improving the skills of the workers to increase productivity, ensuring that patients are tended to with care while ensuring that set healthcare needs are met. WORKPLACE CHALLENGES In every working environment, it is normal to find challenges and hindrances that tend to block goal achievement or the ability of the employees to offer services efficiently. Therefore, a leader ought to learn how to deal with different people.

Often, team members may disagree, others may be reluctant during service delivery, and some may take advantage of patients (Ledlow & Stephens, 2018). As a leader an ambassador, a critical thinker, truth-seeker, advocate and an experienced guide, I believe I have the skills required to solve workplace challenges. My leadership style may help me face challenged such as underperformance, which will inhibit the achievement of objectives. This may be through coming up with a system in which every member will be allocated a specific task according to his or her area of specialization. I may also be able to face challenges regarding privacy of patient’s information since as a truth seeker I would be able to stand up for the rights of the employees. As an exceptional guide, I may be able to face challenges that come with changes in laws and regulations since the healthcare industry is highly regulated. A healthcare facility may also face sociodemographic drawbacks such as language barrier, racism, ethnicity and age gap. This will inhibit optimal collaboration, which in return will affect service delivery (Ledlow & Stephens, 2018). CONCLUSION In conclusion, it is evident that finding purpose is not enough among human beings. There ought to be a person or group who is acting as a motivating factor, a guide, a director and an executor of plans to see that the purpose is achieved. In a healthcare setting, a leader who can be a good ambassador, advocate, truth seeker, people mover, creative builder, an experienced guide will be crucial in seeing into it that the laid down objectives of a healthcare facility come to be (Frankel & PGCMS, 2019). Thus, the kind of leadership style that a given leader uses plays a major role in determining the working atmosphere in a given working environ met, competence in communication and the ability to eradicate any workplace challenge that may arise.

About my Job Software Engineer and my Desired Path to Become Java Architect

Currently working as Software Engineer in Avila IT Services, Union City CA. I am pretty much happy with my job which is my desired path to become Java Architect. My current role was Java Developer which is my strength for developing the real time applications and participated in end to end Software life cycle development. I had worked in different domains like Healthcare, Financial and Accounting.

When I was pursuing final semester in Bachelor’s we had a Java course which impressed me a lot made me to choose my career path. Java is a programming language and computing platform first released by Sun Microsystems in 1995. There are lots of applications and websites that will not work unless you have Java installed, and more are created every day. Java is fast, secure, and reliable. From laptops to datacenters, game consoles to scientific supercomputers, cell phones to the Internet, Java is everywhere. Advantages like, Java offers higher cross- functionality and portability as programs written in one platform can run across desktops, mobiles, embedded systems.

Java is free, simple, object-oriented, distributed, supports multithreading and offers multimedia, network support and version control feature. Initially I started my training and went through lot of study materials, explored more information about java in IT industries, I knew it is one of the leading technologies throughout the globe. After preparation, I done my certification which leads to accrue more confidence to work as Java developer. I started working in small scale company in India which helped me a lot to learn more about Java technologies in different domains. Now I am pursuing Master’s in Information Security System, right now I got a chance to do internship in my career path which is second step for my milestone.

My job defines a developer is responsible for the programming, development of applications and software engineer to integrate Java into business applications, software and websites. They are involved throughout the entire development life cycle of a product and must be able to identify and analyze any issues or problems and be able to come up with an efficient solution. We do parallel work with designing the database which is the essential development of the application, where data storage happens. Other duties may include collating and documenting user requirements, analyzing data and quality assurance testing using environment tools like JAVA, J2EE, OOPS, HTML, Maven, CSS, JQuery, AJAX, Bootstrap, Restful API, Springboot Framework, Jenkins, C#, Web services (SOAP and REST), SQL Server 2014.

If no obstacles stood in the way of career path, reduces productivity of work and there is no career vision. As we know when we face a hurdle we creativity in problem solving, we can more technical skills and develop risk handling skills to reach the success. It should be something you can aspire to and that should inspire you regardless of where you are now and the distance between the present and your vision. Obstacles is like inspiration which develop in us that we can do anything to reach the career path until final milestone in the big picture of life.

Well, in five years I hope to have moved into a position very much like this one, but with more of an impact on the department’s big-picture development. I’m not sure about what that will be, but I’m up for a challenge. In ten years, I’d like to find myself in a position to mentor others in the field, putting my experience to use in ways that help others achieve what I’ve attained.

The Apollo 13 Mission: about Job Astronaut

“Houston, we have a problem (Apollo 13: Houston We‘ve Had a Problem).” The quotation was stated by Jack Swigert, the command module of the Apollo 13 mission. This popular reference was a warning to Mission Control, the agency which navigated Apollo 13 on their mission, that danger has been added to the agenda. This danger has never happened in any Mercury, Gemini, or Apollo mission until the unlucky 13th mission of Apollo. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA, was responsible of all past missions during the Space Race. The Space Race was a war where America and the Soviet Union attempted to successfully transfer astronauts into space and back to Earth. This life-threatening signal was supposed to emphasize the oxygen tank exploding. Apollo 13 was almost a disastrous tragedy, but turned out triumphing over death with the assistance of a procedure from Mission Control.

Numerous events happened before Apollo 13. Before the Apollo program, Mercury and Gemini were in progress of gaining data necessary for lunar landings. After the second program, Gemini, the Apollo missions begin. Each mission had data which brought NASA closer to land on the moon (Lewis, Richard S.). Apollo 11 was the successful lunar landing which launched in 1969. After the victory over the Soviet Union in the Space Race, more missions were announced to gather more data. In 1970, Apollo 13 was announced to be the third mission going to the moon (for America) and was the thirteenth mission in the Apollo program. The mission objective was to visit the Fra Mauro Highlands and gather more data. The crew to accomplish the goal was Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise. Two days before the launch they replaced the original crew who were exposed to German measles (Mobile Register). Jim Lovell was the commander of the flight, Fred Haise was the lunar module pilot, and Jack (John) Swigert was the command module pilot. April 1l, 1970, the launch day of Apollo 13, where the spacecraft roared above Kennedy Space Center. About two days into the flight, Jim Lovell broadcasted the experience of an astronaut, which was right before tragedy struck (Apollo 13 TV Broadcast).

April 13, 1971, two days into the mission, the tragedy started. While building the spacecraft, the engineers tested an oxygen tank that malfunctioned in testing. Nobody took note of it, so they kept on building. Oxygen tank number two exploded which caused a chain reaction in the equipment. Apollo 13 turned into a survival mission. Fuel cells shut down when Jim Lovell, Fred, Haise, and Jack Swigert were 200,000 miles away from Earth. To add on to this, the carbon dioxide scrubbing chemicals were broken, which meant that the astronauts did not have much time left in their life. The tragedy heavily changed the Apollo 13 voyage. (Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum). The mission had to be aborted. To successfully survive a position where they would be forced in moon orbit, something had to be done (Mobile Register). Apollo 13 has to finish what is on their plate. Someone needs to fix all of this chaos.

Now with all of the equipment shut down, and the carbon dioxide levels rising, mission control is trying to save their lives. A procedure was created to get rid of one of dangers that lurked on the spacecraft. This procedure was made to extinguish the carbon dioxide problem, the biggest threat at the time. The astronauts listened to mission control explain what to do, which became successful. The astronauts successfully made it back unharmed which impacted the world. The mission was a “successful failure (National Air and Space Museum Visitor Services Coordinator Team).” Other Apollo missions were launched after Apollo 13 and went to different parts of the moon. All missions after Apollo 13 were lunar missions. After the Apollo program was the Space Shuttle Program (Lewis, Richard S. 'Apollo Program'). The world knows how to not make the mistake which caused the tragedy. The mistake was not taking note of the malfunction of the oxygen tank that exploded during the Apollo 13 voyage. They successfully landed in the Pacific Ocean (NASA.gov)

The Apollo 13 mission was chaotic as a tornado. Apollo 13 was affected by a tragedy which turned the tides of the mission, almost in favor of death. If it weren’t for Mission Control’s procedure to fix the carbon dioxide problem, the main threat at the time, the mission would’ve been a total failure. Though it almost was a catastrophic tragedy for Jim Lovell, Fred Haise, and Jack Swigert, mission control stepped in with a procedure in order for their triumphant survival. Now with the triumphant victory, the rest of the Apollo missions landed on the moon to gather data all the way to the final mission, Apollo 17. Scientists are able to explain the atmosphere of the unknown environment. The mission was out of this world!

My Pursue a Master’s Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering

I have been raised in a family where knowledge is not for just acquiring education. My parents taught me it is a lifelong voyage of curiosity. When I was an adolescence, I was spellbound by seeing the household electrical appliances work, as we can’t visualize electric current, as a consequence many times I wondered how it’s work! As I grew up I understood that Electrical Engineers are those who electrical engineers are the individuals who assesses electrical frameworks, components and applications by planning and leading exploration programs applying information of electricity and materials. Furthermore, my paternal uncle is an Electrical Engineer therefore from childhood, I have observed his dedication to Electrical Engineering field. As time passed, I realized that my career would be around the field that dealt with Electrical Engineering.

I have a record of scoring well throughout my schooling. In my 10th grade I qualified with flying colors and scored 78 percent. I consider myself very fortunate to have completed 12th grade in science stream with mathematics, physics and chemistry as my core subjects and I scored 69 percent. I got admission in Bachelor of Electrical Engineering program at Shri S’AD Vidya Mandal Institute of Technology, Bharuch, affiliated to Gujarat Technological University which is one of the reputed universities of our state. It was a 4 years’ Full-time degree program where I performed exceptionally well and scored 8.95 CGPA on scale of 10.

During my bachelors in Electrical Engineering at Shri S’AD Vidya Mandal Institute of Technology, I have learned numerous subjects such as Advance Engineering Mathematics, Analog and Digital Electronics, Power System Operation and Control, DC and AC machine and Electrical Power System. Out of all these subjects I was keenly interested in it. I have also attended seminars on renewable energy sources, home automation system, SCADA and power system automation and many others. I was encouraged to believe that academics and extra-curricular go hand in hand to form a perfect personality. I have always been participating both technical and non-technical festivals during my college. I volunteered in various events of “Conquest”, which is a well-known technical event in my college. I also liked to indulge myself in different cultural events like Dance, Drama and Singing.

After completion of 6th semester I gained experience in CLP INDIA private limited (power plant) as a part of training. I met with many technical personalities during my training period and I updated my technical knowledge. Moreover, I did my final year projects on “Dual Axis Solar Tracking System” and “Automatic Solar Panel Cleaner” in which I have made a model; which can increase the efficiency of photovoltaic cell up to 35%. Until now I have been working on the research for the same and I aim to publish 2 research papers based on my projects in the near course of time. I have always been an active and competent person who takes on various assignments and works with attentiveness to complete it effectively.

I have completed my bachelors of Electrical Engineering and further I am planning to pursue a Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering as it would help me to broaden my knowledge and skills in this modern world. I strongly believe that Canada has precious education system which will provide me the best platform to fulfill my future goals and improve my knowledge in the field of my interest. In addition, Canada has systematic approach in education which I accept that is the most valuable pre-requisite for a good education system. I came across the website of University of Western Ontario and found its courses to be very fulfilling.

I now look forward to starting the next phase of my life at University of Western Ontario. The Master’s Programme in Electrical and Computer Engineering which is provided with ample facilities and resources in your institution is the perfect match for my career aspirations. I am impressed by the endless extracurricular and the excellent peer network the university offers. More importantly, I am particularly keen on ongoing research on Power Systems and look forward to learning. I am also rather excited about the Electrical Lab at the University of Western Ontario and the excellent infrastructure which would assist me in my aspirations to carry on my own independent research

I strongly believe that Canada has precious education system which will provide me the best platform to fulfill my future goals and improve my knowledge in the field of my interest. In addition, Canada has systematic approach in education which I accept that is the most valuable pre-requisite for a good education system.To sum up, I have the skills and the aspirations and presently looking for the correct platform to move towards my objectives and your university gives me the equivalent.

Socrates Believes Suicide is Wrong

One of the entities Socrates has in mind is our human souls. He believes that our mind and bodies are two separate things and we should look forward to death. He argues that once your body is dead, your soul is separated from your body. Socrates believes suicide is wrong and when we are born, the gods are our guardian and we are their possessions, and it is wrong for us to destroy their possessions. Another perfect entity Socrates has in mind is knowledge.

According to Socrates, true knowledge is knowledge of the eternal and unchanging Forms that underlie perceptible reality. Our souls and knowledge is more important than our bodies because everything is always changing into its opposite. Day becomes night, night becomes day, sleeping turn to waking, waking turns to sleeping, life becomes death, and death becomes life. Everything that is greater than something must become greater after being less. I agree with Socrates argument that perfect entities are more worthy of our attention than imperfect entities. I agree with him because everything in life is either imperfect or imitating something that is already perfect.

With the harp analogy, Socrates is trying to illustrate a comparison between the harp and our minds. You have to move the strings a very specific way to achieve the harmony you want, but minds do not move a certain or specific way. If a string on the harp break, the harmony will stop, but this is not the case for the body and soul. If your body dies, your soul is still alive. If we arrange parts correctly, then the harp will be in tune and if we damage the parts, then we destroy the instrument.

The body is composed of several physical body parts and if they are arranged correctly, then we experience thinking. However, if we damage those parts, then we are unable to think. “My belief is that to have no wants is divine, and to have as few as possible is next to divine”, according to Socrates, a rich and active mind is much happier than buying lavish foods and luxurious clothing. Socrates argues that the best life is “a society in which only the basic needs of all members are satisfied”. For example, Socrates would agree that being wealthy and able to buy expensive things will not fulfill the best life. The best life is achieved by being happy with having your basic needs rather than materialistic objects.
