Martin Luther King Jr. (Biography Essay)

Martin Luther King Jr. was a major civil rights leader, minister, activist, and spokesperson. Martin Luther King Jr. wanted to make a huge impact on society, it created controversial activities, an assassination, and it effected the community.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was born in Atlanta on 15 January 1929. Both his father and grandfather were pastors in an African-American Baptist church. M. Luther King attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, (segregated schooling) and then went to study at Crozer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania and Boston University' (Pettinger). King had ended the segregation of African-American citizens in the U.S. He also had a role in the making of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Martin Luther King Jr. wanted to make a huge impact on society, it created controversial activities, an assassination, and it effected the community. 'King came from a comfortable middle-class family steeped in the tradition of the Southern black ministry: both his father and maternal grandfather were Baptist preachers. His parents were college-educated, and King’s father had succeeded his father-in-law as pastor of the prestigious Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. The family lived on Auburn Avenue, otherwise known as “Sweet Auburn,” the bustling “black Wall Street,” home to some of the country’s largest and most prosperous black businesses and black churches in the years before the civil rights movement. Young Martin received a solid education and grew up in a loving extended family' (Carson).

First, Martin Luther King Jr. created controversial activities. He provided leadership in the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955. King also made a speech, the famous 'I Have a Dream' speech, that caused a lot of controversy. He also helped to establish the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957. These activities caused lots of controversy and it eventually led to the Civil Rights Movement that lasted from 1955 to 1968. Martin Luther King Jr. received many death threats because of his importance in the Civil Rights Movement. Therefore, King was expecting to be murdered just like John F. Kennedy in 1963.

Next, something happened that shocked people around the world. Martin Luther King Jr. went to Memphis, Tennessee to deliver a speech. The speech was called the 'I've Been to the Mountaintop' address. On Thursday, April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. was staying at Lorraine Motel owned by Walter Bailey. King was staying in room 306, which he had stayed in many times before. King went out to the balcony when he was shot by a .30-06 bullet, fired from a Remington rifle. King fell to the ground unconscious. The murder, James Earl Ray, got arrested at London's Heathrow Airport two months later. King was quickly taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and doctors performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation. He was pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m. after he never got his consciousness back. According to Taylor Branch, his autopsy showed that his heart was in the condition of a 60-year-old man despite the fact that he was just 39.

Thirdly, there were many effects of his assassination. The assassination effected the community and it also effected the accused man. The community changed and was different than before because of the impact that the assassination had. It caused the Voting Rights Act of 1968 that guaranteed everyone the right to vote. Some effects were good and some were bad.  The assassination effected the community by widening the serious break in friendly relations between black and white Americans. One hundred and twenty-five American cities exploded in violence after Martin Luther King's death. 70,000 military service members and National Guardsmen were deployed in 29 states. Black Power activists called for political revolution. It also created the Voting Rights Act of 1968. These events were the effects on the community. The assassination also effected the accused man, James Earl Ray. 'The U.S. government claimed the assassin was a racist loner named James Earl Ray, who had escaped from the Missouri State Penitentiary on April 23, 1967.  Ray was alleged to have fired the fatal shot from a second-floor bathroom window of a rooming house above the rear of Jim’s Grill across the street.  Running to his rented room, Ray allegedly gathered  his belongings, including the rifle, in a bedspread-wrapped bundle, rushed out the front door onto the adjoining street, and in a panic dropped the bundle in the doorway of the Canipe Amusement Company a few doors down.  He was then said to have jumped into his white Mustang and driven to Atlanta where he abandoned the car.  From there he fled to Canada and then to England where he was eventually arrested at Heathrow Airport on June 8, 1968 and extradited to the U.S.  The state claims that the money Ray needed to purchase the car and for all his travel was secured through various robberies and a bank heist' (Curtin). These were the effects of Martin Luther King's assassination.

In conclusion, the Martin Luther King Jr. assassination shocked many people around the world. Martin Luther King. Jr. wanted to make a huge impact on society, it created controversial activities, an assassination, and it effected the community. Martin Luther King Jr. is remembered today by many people because of all the things he did in his short life. He made many speeches and also did the March for the Dream. All of these events were controversial and had a big impact on society.

Why did Islam Spread so Quickly?

Islam is the name of the religion and how Muslims are the people who follow it. I watched the video, “What Islam really says about women” and I really liked her view point and how she explained things, but it’s clear she holds a lot of bias. One of her opening lines is, 'The only way to ensure the participation of women globally is by reclaiming religion.' This is when I made the connection that she hold high respect for her religion and feels as if anything could be conquered because of it. However I read a lot of the comments and they were quick to call her “brainwashed” and stuff of that matter. I think that’s because everyone has embedded assumptions and didn’t fully give her a chance to speak and give her message. I can’t come to any conclusions from her speech, but I can say she seemed genuinely happy and passionate. Not once did I feel she was oppressed. Believe what you will, but if she’s happy being motivational woman as a Muslim then I support it. However some of her ideas like the one about “reclaiming religion” seem a little off to me. I don’t think that religion is necessarily the best way to ensure women get the best treatment they deserve.

Reading the text has taught me many things about Islam. Islam is an essential religion to know much more about it for a lot of reasons. One of the reasons to learn about the Muslim faith is that it is the second largest and fastest growing region in the world. Also, the population of Muslim in the United States is increasing at a higher speed, and therefore it will be detrimental to be ignorant about the Muslim religion. Politics is also about Islam and the Middle East. Knowing and understanding something about Muslim individuals as well as the Qur’an teachings is an essential task for all the educated and modern people.

Also, I learned that Islam is a monotheistic faith. That surrendering God’s the most critical human task. It is essential to understand that Islam religion is about God as well as its teachings. Also, Muhammad is not considered divine and worshipped as Jesus as in the Christian faith. Mohammed is viewed as just as a prophet. He is a channel of passing God’s message to people.

I have learned that many people are not aware that Islam honors other faiths, but feel that over time has been corrupted. For instance, the Trinity teaching in Christianity is viewed as a pure monotheism corruption. Also, I noted that Islam holds honored position for Jesus, though does not consider him as divine. All Muslims also agree to abide by a few religious duties by all standards: The Islam centers practice known as the Five Pillars: reciting the verse or creed that says that there is Allah but no God, Mohammed is the Prophet of God, having prayer five times daily, keeping fasts, giving alms and making pilgrimage Mecca(Ellwood and McGraw, 430.)

The recitation of the creed is what makes one be considered officially as a Muslim. There is no baptism ceremony in Muslim as in Christianity. By submitting to the will of God, known as Allah by Mohammed, then a person is considered to be a Muslim.

Besides, fasting during the month of Ramadan is deemed to be a reasonably hard feat. All the time, one does not go without drink or food, though alcohol and food (and smoking and sex for instance) are very limited for several hours without sustenance. Muslim can drink and eat after the sunsets and sun rises. The idea is to have self-discipline as well as place essential things of life in their proper perspective. A fast during Ramadan is not just food. People are requested to forego evil thoughts, smoking, and sex during the same period (Stout and Daniel). Evil thoughts include unforgiving ideas, bitterness, and gossip. The objective is to make the month of Ramadan a holy renewal month. Muslims bodies become more disciplined and leaner and so should their emotions and thoughts.

Fasting is also one way of practicing solidarity mainly with those individuals who do not have enough. Pilgrimage is the anticipation that they will attempt to go to Mecca in their lifetime at least once. There are, however, exceptions, if you are disabled or sick. This pilgrimage is essential for many more reasons, as it is the event that supports and creates community, particularly now that the religion attracts many people to Mecca from a different part of the world. Islam is a religion that is not separate from society and culture. Muslims does not believe in the separation of state and church (which is a source of misunderstandings between the western world and Islam). Life of Muslim is to submit to God entirely, and this is conducted best in the culture that encourages submission. It makes it manageable to pray five times each day as requested.

Also, I noted that the Roman Catholic Church was in the same position for many thousands of years or more. No separation of state and Church until the constitution of the United States of America came into being (McGee and Robert 660). That is a good reason why Muslims fear democracy. In Islamic history and culture, civilization has found specific ways to express itself through artistic creation. Calligraphy is the most outstanding form. Muslims do not believe in the idea that artists ought to take pictures of their God, Allah since he is supposed to be omnipotent and beyond the human imagination. It is a good reason; you cannot see images of Allah in mosques, suppressing the need to create art. Most people have to look for new ways to express themselves in art. One form of art in Islamic that has become popular that has to do with their passion and love of the Quran is their most beautiful calligraphy.

The Qur’an is seen as the work of not only a spiritual and religious genius but as well as the literary masterpiece. Maybe Muslims memorize large sections of Quran book; they have it in their minds and assist them to offer an expression to the poetry of Islam.

What are my Strengths and Weaknesses?

It is of crucial importance for every individual to understand his or her strengths and weaknesses. This ability can provide a person with the opportunity to make the fullest use of positive characteristics of his or her personality and try to make everything possible in order to turn weaknesses into advantages. When it comes to English, I always try to analyze my past mistakes in order to notice which areas of my studies I have to improve. As a result, my ability to understand my strengths and weaknesses can be viewed as a useful tool that can help me to fulfill my potential.

On the one hand, I have a range of strengths that will help me during the English course. I am interested in literature and my passion for reading always motivates me to express my thoughts on the paper. Reading taught me how to stay focused for a long period of time and pay particular attention to all the details that are presented in the text. I have a strong ability to analyze written as well as oral texts and, as a result, it developed my critical thinking skills. There were numerous situations in my life when I was able to notice those details, which other people failed to see. Also, my critical thinking skills help me to express my ideas precisely and accurately. Furthermore, I practice mindfulness in order to improve my ability to concentrate for a long period of time while doing my homework.

In addition to this, I have a vivid imagination which always helps me to find interesting ideas that are worth discussing. I see every essay as an opportunity to write it in an interesting manner and share my ideas with the readers. I believe that I have valuable experience that may be helpful for someone. Moreover, there was a situation in my life when I posted an essay on a website and people's reaction to this was amazing. They wrote that I inspired them to become better individuals. It gave me enough motivation to realize that I have the power to improve the quality of someone's life with the help of my writing.

On the other hand, I know my weaknesses and I am determined on my way to find a solution to my problems. First of all, I have some struggles with grammar and word choice. I will try to pay more attention to the way in which I write sentences and learn various grammar rules precisely and accurately. Secondly, I have to improve my communication skills and learn how to present myself in public. I can feel anxiety and fear when I have to present a speech in front of a big auditory. I will learn more about verbal as well as non-verbal communication with the aim to become an excellent speaker. Thirdly, one of my weaknesses is my disability to omit using slang while communicating with others and writing various essays. As a result, there is a crucial need for me to pay particular attention to the words that I use on a daily basis. And last but not least, my weakness is a bad sense of rhythm. I can mix long and short sentences and omit transition words.

Taken everything into consideration, I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses and this fact will definitely help me to grow as a personality. My primary goal is to always be able to analyze my past mistakes in order to omit to repeat them in the future. I strongly believe that this feature of my character will significantly improve my success during the English course.

Baroque Vs Romanticism Art

Baroque Art

Art is broadly defined as the expression of human creativity through activities like storytelling, painting, music, architectural designs, and dance. Baroque art is one of the many types of art practiced in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. This type of art originated from Rome and later spread to other parts of the world including America. The term baroque is of Portuguese origin and it means a pearl of an irregular shape.

The baroque art was associated with the Catholic Church and came into existence after Martin Luther wrote down his 95 theses in 1517 (Gershit et al).Martin Luther was in constant war with the Catholic church over issues like the supreme authority of scriptures and justification of faith. This led to the start of the Protestant Reformation which spread across continents and triggered the start of new Protestant churches. In response, the Catholic Church started internal reformation to educate its faithful about the Catholic doctrines and theology.  Since most people were still illiterate at that time, the Catholic Church used art so as to explain their faith to both educated and uneducated believers. This decision led to the introduction and use of baroque art.

The Baroque art is known to be direct, very obvious and dramatic. This kind of art is emotionally involving and intense. It involves the dramatic use of color to easily draw the audience into participation. Baroque art is widely known for its use of extravagant ornaments and settings.

Mackay in her book, The Art of Manliness, notes that Baroque art comprised of powerful designs and dramatic contrasts between lightness and darkness. MacKay identifies major themes of Baroque art as intense light, intense mind involving moments, ecstasies, grandiose visions, martyrdom and death. Baroque art felt both psychologically and emotionally real.

Baroque art had several styles such as paintings, sculptures, and architectural designs.

Some key examples of Baroque artistic features include the ecstasy of St. Teresa done by Giovanni Lorenzo in 1652, the Conversion on the way to Damascus done in 1601 by Caravaggio, the Crucifixion of Saint Peter done in 1615, the Four Continents of 1615 and Descent from the Cross of 1634 by Rembrandt (Janson et al).Others famous baroque arts of work are the Martyrdom of Saint Matthew, Supper at Emmaus and the Entombment of Christ.

This extravagant, intricate and ornamental type of art was by far the most famous artists of its time. Its importance to the Catholic Church was motivated by the urge to counter the simple art used by the Protestants. Baroque influence also covered the 19th century with baroque architecture constructions still prevalent in America. This art is clearly one of the most striking and vibrant in the art history in America and globally.

Romanticism Art

Romanticism is a form of art that contains many types. It started in the late 18th century inside Europe. Romanticism had a certain influence on politics. In order to pursue people’s ideal life, they took their weapon and had an uprising. And also, except for the influence on politics, it also had impacts on history and educational ideas. These things had big changes. Romanticism stresses beauty and freedom. So in the period of romanticism, the mind of people changed, people’s appreciation of beauty changed too. The main forms in romanticism are music, art, and literature.

French romanticism appears first in art and then in music. French romanticism developed late in literature. After few years of the French Revolution and Napoleon suffered a defeat the last time in his life, the wave of romanticism began to spread in France. People started to quote drawing,  write music, write articles etc. to express what they hope and what they want in their mind. At that time, these artworks had been called: works of art in the peered of romanticism. And also, at that time, different artists have their own style, but this didn’t show a mess, this can only explain that in France, romanticism has no single forms. So my definition of French romanticism is: diversify and colorful.

We know that romanticism is a period that pursuit beauty and freedom. But as we mentioned earlier, in romantic periods, everyone has their own unique aesthetic. So there is no single form of romanticism, it is rich and colorful. Nowadays, people may understand romanticism as lyrical, full of music, beautiful and quiet. But when you investigate at romanticism, you will find that romanticism is not just a small part of the characteristics, it also has a few of its biggest characteristics: true, rich, human.

How do you Overcome the Struggles in your Life?

Good morning ladies and gentlemen, the person standing in front of you is just one of those people who keeps on fighting despite of the pressure and the struggle he face. The person who keeps on pursuing his dreams even he is almost unable to satisfy people’s expectations. I’m Jonathan Javier from Batangas State University Main Campus 1, and you can call me “kuya” Jonathan. I was the only child of my parents and because of that, high expectations are unavoidable. So even though I want to play with others way back on elementary days, I insisted myself to just stay at home to study and do my home works. I didn’t know at first the purpose of studying, and why I am the only one grinding to study while the other kids are just playing and enjoying their youth. I had a lot of unanswered questions back then, but when I graduated elementary and became the salutatorian of our class I understood its purpose. I didn’t expect that the pressure and struggle I faced before had a big and wonderful effect on me. I realized that no matter how hard it is to overcome the struggles and pressures, we cannot deny the fact that it is really part of life that helps us to be strong and be a better person. But imagine if there is no struggles, no pressures, no challenges nor hardships, and you just get what you want every time because of the people around you. For some people they will say that letting others to take on the responsibilities and work for you would be great but the fact is, it will just cause you trouble in the future and it will make you weak when it comes on facing your own problems, when something hard comes up in your life you wouldn’t know how to handle it because you just get used to the fact that you always rely on others and unable to stand on your own.

There is only 2 ways to escape the challenges, first is to change the circumstances that created the challenge and second is to change the person dealing with the challenge. Yes the pressure causes most people to break, the heavy weight of expectations causes cracks in the minds of the weak, but remember it strengthens the strong. Persistence, Preparation and Perseverance are the key to beat pressures and struggles. Challenges strengthens you, competitions makes you better and step backs makes you wiser. Do not be afraid to try, do not be afraid to make mistakes and disappointments to others, you were given pain because you are strong enough to handle it, God given you this life because he knows that you can and you are strong enough to live it. You are stronger enough than you think, you are the only person that is going to determine your worth, you are the only one who has the power to decide if you will exceed your potential or fall short of your potential so don’t mind whatever people are saying.

Life isn’t going to keep you down that easy, just keep this in your mind that you have more inside you. Put this in your mind that you can get yourself out of this situation, you can do anything. Just keep on pushing forward by taking consistent action, because if you hide from challenges you will never know your true potential. You already survived all your challenges up to this point, so just move forward and survive whatever is coming. Challenges was sent for a reason, it might teach you a lot of lessons to grow and become a better person. So don’t give up, everybody have a purpose in this world and you will only find it if you keep on going and keep on growing. Keep also in your mind that every challenges and struggle you face will be a part of your story, it made you the person you are today so be proud. Some people look this struggles like a curse or a bad thing, but the reality is it’s a privilege given by God to make you stronger enough to live. Everybody should learn to turn their struggles into a gift, because reality is the struggle. The whole time you were thinking that your struggle and pressure was holding you back, no because it was really giving you the tools and shaping you in order to become a better and greater person in the future. That’s all Thank you very much.

Independence in ‘Jane Eyre’

This book is a masterpiece of literature. Jane Eyre itself is an autobiography of a fictional character Jane Eyre. This novel was written by Charlotte Brontë under the gender pseudonym Currer Bell, she was born on April 21st, 1816 in Yorkshire, England. In 1847 Bronte published Jane Eyre. The Themes include channeled passion versus uncontrolled passion, gender and class which determined the opportunities characters are provided, religion and self-control following Christian scripture to protect against risks of the uncontrolled passions.

In Jane Eyre independence is very important because Jane, since she was born, was not independent even from her family nor from her husband to be. When she was sent to a school more like an institution for poor orphan girls that was called Lowood it was not her choice, her aunt Mrs. Reed decided for her because she never loved her and did not want her anymore in that house. When she went there she almost never experienced independence most of the teachers were cruel to her especially the principal he was very mean he told everybody that she was a witch and a lot of other things. This did not stop Jane to be successful, her friend Helen helped and learned her many ways how to be calm and other things that she always remembered and never forgot.

After 8 years in that school she decided to apply for a governess, she teached in Lowood for two years and also opened a school for girls only when she met St. John. When she went in Thornfield as e governess she got what she wanted from Mrs. Fairfax a very lovely old lady and Mr. Rochester too. The most independence of her life she got it in that house most of the time she was happy, free and loved only the thought of leaving Thornfield would make her sad but one day she decides to leave because of the current circumstances that were in that time.

As an orphan, Jane yearns to be loved but, she is also fiercely protective of her independence and her identity, and we see this conflict through Jane’s journey. Her main quest in the story is to discover how to be loved without sacrificing any part of herself in the process. Both of Janes’s romantic relationships test her ability to fulfill this quest, for example when Jane was offered a marriage from Mr. Rochester that will be emotionally fulfilling, but that would require her to sacrifice her integrity because he was already married to Bertha and Jane would be his mistress. The other example is when Jane was offered another marriage proposal from St. John that is based in a common purpose in a business offer, that would have Jane acting as his equal but the problem is that he does not love her and neither does she. So she decides to go back to her love Mr. Rochester and she marries him.

Jane is a very assertive heroin in many ways, she is the person who speaks the truth against powerful figures, against her aunt or against St. John Rivers, she is the person who speaks the truth against them and there is often these powerful dominant male figures, against whom Jane has to find her own voice and her own identity and so it is very important text for defending the value, the independence and the depth of women’s lives. Jane is often trying to stop herself but it is exactly that moment that she is most passionately expressive.

According to Paris (1997) Jane’s aunt described her as mean spirit, dangerous duplicity, and a compound of virulent passions. In the opening chapter her aunt shows that she is full of rage and resentment against Jane. Jane was trying to be useful and pleasant in order to avoid being sent away but she explodes, because she is done of playing this role and that is when Bessie says she has never done this before but Abbot says she always had this rage inside of her.

In every act of the novel the scenes are played out the same Jane comes into struggle with force, beats it by her inner power, and escapes into exile. For example in the case of Mrs. Reed “she is the harsh bully but Jane maintains she influences suffering and is exiled to Lowood Institution”. In this part, Jane beats Aunt Reed’s outside strength of cruelty with her powerful passion. When she goes to Lowood she learns how to overcome cruelty by quiet submission and her self-control, she defeats her inside force of her own passion (Solomon, 1963).

The moment of leaving from Thornfield came and Jane had a conversation with Mr. Rochester before she left, he tried to convince her to stay, and as much as she wanted to stay she could not accept to be his mistress. She loved him very much and she also knew that Mr. Rochester loves her very much too, there were no words that could convince her to stay. She had a lot of respect for herself and could not accept the marriage. She forgave him the very moment he started to speak, his eyes spoke more than words for her. In that moment she also forgave her Aunt Reed and all the people that have done harm to her, she remembered Helen and the lessons of life that she gave to Jane. After deciding to leave they both cried and told each other that, they will love each other till death (Bronte, 1847)

According to Bronte (1847) Jane was living with the Rivers, Diana, Mary, St. John and Hannah. After some months St. John found out that Jane was their cousin and told Jane, she could not believe it that she has someone in her life as family. St. John’s mother was Jane’s father’s sister. She felt like she had found a brother and two sister, she was very happy. He told her that Uncle John left all his fortune to her, an amount of 20,000 pounds. Jane Eyre immediately decided to divide the money with her brother and sister, which it means 5000 pounds each. They called their sisters to come back because they were working as governesses. Another month had come and St. John suggested Jane that she should learn Hindostanee and Jane listened him and learned a little of Hindostane Language but one day they were talking and St. John told Jane that he wanted to go to India as a servant and he asked Jane to go there at first she accepted to go as a sister but he told her that she asked her as a wife and that was something that Jane could not accept, she could not marry someone that she does not love and also that calls brother. He tried to convince her but could not achieve it (Bronte, 1847).

As a conclusion in this novel are many lessons for life that we can learn. As Jane Eyre always wanted to respect herself and women’s right as well, we should not give up on our independence instead we should always fight for it just like Jane Eyre did. She is a perfect example for everyone, she went 8 years in Lowood, she had more downs than ups and achieved to finish it successfully and to always remember her best friends Helen’s advices and lessons on life. She refused to marry Mr. Rochester and St. John because she had a lot of respect for herself and that she could not do only what they say because she supported the thought of always saying the truth even if it hurts.

Conveniences Making Drivers Bad

Conveniences being added to vehicles by the manufacturers are making new drivers bad ones. Everyone is always looking for newest inventions, and the adding of futuristic options to vehicles is nothing new. Vehicles have evolved since the Model T created by Henry Ford decades ago. The addition of air conditioning and heat, power windows and automatic drive were some of the additions consumers rejoiced having.

Jump ahead to the 21st century, and there are now cars that drive themselves, blind spot warnings, and backup cameras. The drivers that have been driving since manual stick shift was the only way to drive a car and turning their head around to watch for obstacles as they reverse, some of the additions are helpful, but for the new young drivers just starting out, these can create a problem with their defensive driving skills. Not paying attention to the road or checking their blind spots make the inexperienced drivers rely on electronics to warn them of danger or when to start braking. Not learning the skills needed to be a safe and defensive driver will cause more traffic accidents and a rise in injuries or death in the years to come. Sensors and cameras that send data to the computer operating system relay to the driver via lights or warning sounds bringing the information their attention and allow them to act accordingly. However, what if that sensor or sound malfunctions? The driver does not have the sense or muscle memory to check mirrors or turn their head to check for a car in their blind spot or to back out of a parking space slowly, so they do not hit a pedestrian or another car. Being able to react to a situation while driving must happen in less than a second and if the reflexes are not there, the outcome will not be a positive one.

Over the years, the conveniences added to cars and trucks have been for the better towards the driver, such as the radio, power locks and windows and GPS, but unfortunately, some have also contributed to inexperienced drivers being bad ones. Cellphones able to take pictures and browse social media has cause drivers to be distracted from watching the road and being aware of their surroundings. Video chat and updating status are distracting and cause swerving in lanes. Browsing the internet is for in the office, not while driving 65mph on the highway in a one-ton metal container. A lot of the accidents caused could have been avoided by just keeping the phone in a purse or pocket until reaching the destination. The Department of Transportation has created equipment such as red light/traffic cameras, police checking speeds and for distracted drivers, making talk/text while driving illegal and upping the number of fines but people continue not to care and break the law. Vehicle makers are trying to help by adding parental features to vehicles. Some examples are maxed speed allowed; radio will not turn on until seat belts engaged and phone call rejection allow a parent to set limits in the vehicle that the young driver cannot change. Parents can also help by teaching their new driver the skills they learned when they were first starting out. If possible buying an older vehicle for the young driver that does not come with the fancy new sensors, so they can hone their skills to be a better driver. When they do buy a new vehicle, they have the sense and muscle memory to rely on while driving instead of the electronics. Start teaching them how to drive before they turn 16, learners permits are an excellent way to help teach inexperienced drivers to be a safe driver before they get their license. Some of the most important lessons when it comes to driving are parking, reversing, and looking out for obstacles. Practicing it over and over will instill it in memory and make the driver a safer one.

Another addition to vehicles that are not helping young drivers to operate a vehicle safely is airbags. When the airbag became incorporated to the manufacturers, it served as both a safety feature not only for the driver but the passenger. Over the years it has evolved to protect the passengers in the back of the vehicle as well, and if there is not a passenger, the driver can turn off that airbag. However, the feature has given drivers the idea that they do not need to use their seatbelt and that has caused vehicle fatalities to increase due to the negligent thinking. Airbags are there to protect the head and upper body during a crash, not to keep the body from exiting the vehicle. Because of this thinking seat belt usage has become an afterthought and more drivers are suffering because of it. Parents need to reiterate the importance of wearing a seatbelt along with having an airbag to keep the driver as safe as possible.

The ability to sense a driver is drowsy or drunk is a new feature that can be abused causing the most danger to the driver and everyone else on the road. After the vehicle has swerved continuously in a lane, the vehicle can drive to the side of the road and apply the brake. The result is the driver is safe and does not cause an unnecessary accident due to their negligence. It sounds like it is a good thing but what if the driver believes they have nothing to worry about while drinking too much at the bar? They will not see the danger they are putting themselves and others in because the vehicle will save them from a crash or kill someone.

Abusing such conveniences is nothing new, people recording themselves taking a nap as their car “drives” for them is all over the Internet for everyone to see. Being a responsible driver means only using the added features when necessary or when needed, not relying on them to make a driver safer. Futuristic conveniences in vehicles do not have to be a terrible thing. For a suitable driver, it can make them better but can be the reason a new driver becomes a bad one.

How to Get your Leisure Time?

When was the last time you took some time for yourself?

Me time is the last thing we think about when things are busy. For those of you with kids in the picture, it can be even tougher. Not having time for yourself can leave you feeling tired and unfulfilled.

I have a hard time with this and I always have. I find it difficult to find time for myself. When I do find time, it is usually interrupted. My daughter can be clingy. She always wants to be near me or have my undivided attention. Honestly, I can’t even go to the bathroom without interruption. And if she doesn’t follow me to the bathroom the cat does.

So how can we make having alone time a priority?

Step One: Stop Feeling Guilty About it

Let’s face it, if you can’t feel good about me time, it isn’t going to be helpful anyway. So let go of that guilt and take care of yourself. Taking care of your self is not selfish. You aren’t just helping yourself. You are making life better for everyone around you. When you are recharged you are better able to take on your responsibilities. Nobody is at their best when they are stressed and cranky.

For parents, we are not going to be the best parents we can be, if we aren’t in a good place. A parent who isn’t under stress can be more present with their children and can respond better to a child’s challenging behaviors when need be. And honestly, it’s your job teach your children that it is important to take care of themselves. What better way than to model the behavior yourself?

Step Two: Look at How You Use Your Time Now

We are all busy people. Take a look at what you do during the day. Make a to-do list. Are there tasks you could cut out? Or maybe delegate to someone else? Can you combine tasks to be more efficient?

When I first started planning this post out, I looked at how I spend my time. I waste a lot of my free time on my phone looking at Facebook or Pinterest. I love social media as much as the next person but it can be a huge time waster. Research shows that on average people spend 135 minutes on social media sites a day. That is over 2 hours of time that could be used reading, meditating, or spending time on another hobby.

Start small. Find just 15 minutes you could free up.

Step Three: Find Something Fulfilling to do With Your Free Time

Everyone is different. Spend some time reflecting. What activities leave you feeling content? Do you feel happy when you read a book? Does taking a walk clear your head? Is there an old hobby you would like to pick back up? Does baking give you the warm and fuzzies?

If you aren’t sure what hobby is for you, try taking this quiz for fun ideas.

Step Four: Schedule it

Make an appointment with yourself. Write it on your calendar, set an alarm, or do whatever you need to do. I know that it can be tough to find free time but there are ways to make it happen. If you have a partner let them know you need some time alone. Ask for what you need and don’t feel bad about it.

Try waking up early, even if it is just 15 minutes earlier. Sit and enjoy your coffee. Read a chapter of a book. If you aren’t a morning person, use your lunch time. Walk away from your desk. Eat lunch with a buddy. Maybe neither of those works for you? After the kids are in bed, go in your room and shut the door.

I know it can be hard but it’s important to make me time a priority. Failing to do so can really affect our well-being. What do you guys think? Any other suggestions on ways to find free time? Leave a comment and let us know.

“The Story of a Hour”, “The Storm”, “Desiree’s Baby” by Kate Chopin

Author and feminist Kate Chopin lived in the height of the Victorian Era and was a first-hand witness to the suppression women endured and accepted in the late 19th century. Kate Chopin's short stories as a rule are about ladies who are subjugated by sexual orientation jobs and double standards. For centuries there has always been a struggle for women to find equality and respect from men. Kate Chopin's literary works often include male and female gender roles that are sometimes challenged by the female protagonists in the stories. For instance, The Story of a Hour ,The Storm, and Desiree's Baby are about three ladies who are married Calixta, Louise, and Desiree.

In the first story, 'The story of an hour' the conflict in the couple is that the husband Brently Mallard abused his wife Mrs. Mallard. Mrs. Mallard felt like she wasn't free and that's why when she received the news of her husband's death she was so happy because she felt free. In the second story “The storm' there is also the lack of personal freedom. In this story we can see that the couples are not happy or pleased with themselves and that's why they had an affair. In “Desiree’s Baby” Racism is a major theme in the story Desiree’s Baby because Desiree was found as a baby and was accepted and took in because of the fairness of her skin, no one accepted Desiree’s baby because his skin was unfair, and her husband left because he found out that she was not white. This woman’s in Kate chopping short stories did suffer more than Edna does in “The awakening” Edna's character violated the codes of the behavior of nineteenth-century American women.  So marriage restricted them, from personal freedom.

The story of an hour.. Louise suffers in “The Story of a Hour” despises her marriage to the point of death. What's one of a kind abothe Story Of A Hour', 'the Storm', 'desiree's Baby' By Kate Chopinut The Story of a Hour is that the entire Story happens in 60 minutes. In the wake of finding out about the passing of her significant other, she does what any house spouse would do, in that circumstance she cries before her sister and companion, however when she is separated from everyone else she endeavors to battle the sentiments of satisfaction and the opportunity that her better half's demise gave her. When she gives the emotions a chance to overwhelm her she understands that she's free and can do what she needs, however then her significant other gets back home. 'At the point when the specialists came they said she had kicked the bucket of coronary illness – of happiness that kills.' She bites the dust in the wake of seeing her significant other get through the entryway and understanding that the delight and opportunity she felt no longer than one hour back has been tore out from under her. On the off chance that you having sentiments of happiness and believe I'm free minutes subsequent to catching wind of your significant other's demise you don't love him, and in the event that you kick the bucket after you discover he's alive you insubordinately don't love him and wanted freedom from the marriage.

Desiree’s Baby.. In The Story 'Desiree's Baby', Desiree suffers because the fact that she experiences passionate feelings and gets married. Desiree and Armand had a child which is the beneficiary to the family name. It indicates how their reasoning changed through family life and how love mollified their temperaments. The husband does not cherish his wife as much as his wife loves him. In the wake of making sense of that the infant had dark in him or was a blended tyke he transparently demonstrated his sicken for Desiree on the grounds that she wasn't completely white, and he sent her away without a minute's idea when the open door emerged. He didn't love Desiree as much as she cherished him since all she longed for day and night was to satisfy her significant other.

The Storm.. Obviously Calixta suffers because of the way that Adultery in 'The Storm' is submitted and no regret appears. While Bobinot and Bibi were out in the tempest, Calixta 'felt no uneasiness for their wellbeing.' Furthermore, when Chopin expresses, “They did not heed the crashing torrents, and the roar of the elements made her laugh as she lay in his arms” (561), the peruse can see the lack of care the character appears towards the circumstance happening around her and demonstrate how troubled she is in her marriage back then.

Example of Humorous

What is the real reason self-deprecating humor being relevant today? Self-deprecating humor, when used correctly, is the easiest way for social leveling. This type of humor is criticism prearranged in an amusing way. Self-deprecating is the easiest way to laugh at insecurities. While some situations seem too serious to laugh at, self-deprecating humor is a common way of getting a point across in social media and comedy.

In this current day and age, there is a rise in tension faced by young adults and teens to post the perfect Instagram picture. The meme “Today is not You’re Day” states, “When on the 295th selfie attempt and you are still trying to refuse the fact that you are ugly,” over a picture of a man crying in the mirror (Hisham). Self-deprecating humor is relevant for the meme and others that stress over perfect timeline photos. Although he does not use many types of logos, Hisham convinces his audience that the stress is felt by numerous people (Hisham). Hisham invokes trust with his viewers through ethos while also appealing to their emotions through pathos helping him become relatable to viewers who empathize with him. The meme eases tension for people who feel like they are the only one who takes 30 or more pictures but still hates them all. Hisham’s displays vulnerability humorously through feelings of something he consciously struggles with but would never admit out loud. This memes overall message is that not fitting the “bubble” of what the world considers perfect is ok and that others struggle with the same pressures.

Self-deprecating humor is the superlative way to give humility and insight to the comedian using it. This type of humor helps others thrive while being somewhat therapeutic (Gaffigan). Self-deprecating humor is surprisingly funny and more relatable than a simple punch line. This type of humor is less likely to hurt if coming from a position of strength. Jim Gaffigan stated, “It is a moment of acknowledgment and a moment of being out of control and maybe even a glimpse into ourselves, which is very important” (Gaffigan). Self-deprecating humor allows the comedian to communicate with his audience simply because honesty is more impressive. The audience does not expect you to use a voiced opinion view out loud surprising the audience while bringing them laughter. There is more to this type of humor than just saying “I am ugly” it is acknowledging a feeling making it relatable, yet humorous (Gaffigan).

Comedian Michael Jr. uses self-deprecating humor as an easy way for his audience to relate to financial struggles in his video “Growing Up Poor”. Michael points out how the struggles made him more creative as a child moreover disregarding all the negatives. To better connect with his audience, Michael allows them the opportunity to laugh instead of expecting to be the receiver of laughter. For most of his life Michael recalls how growing up they did not have a lot of money and portrays his family as not even able to afford the letters “or” in the word poor (Michael Jr.). Comically Michael uses self-deprecating humor to take actual life struggles throughout the world turning them into something acceptable to laugh at. Michael prefers self-deprecating humor to open the hearts of his viewers to struggles faced worldwide while evoking change.

Comedians excessively use self-deprecating humor to best release tension in a humorous way. Audiences may feel an imbalance of power or intimidation by the success of influencers and comedians making it hard for them to truly connect. Throughout comedy and social media self-deprecating humor is the best way for influencers and comedians to bond with the audience. This type of humor is slightly perfect by helping others stand as one and feel less alone.

Nursing Shortage

The evolution of healthcare has increased the need for experienced registered nurses. Compared to all other occupations, employment rates of nurses are expected to increase by 15% from 2016 to 2026 (United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2018). Medas et al. (2015) estimate there will be a more than 400,000 of a shortage of nurses by the year 2020. New novice nurses joining the workforce are meant to help to battle this deficit, but unfortunately, they are only adding to the numbers of this deficit. Novice nurses are leaving nursing at an estimated rate of 35% to 60% within one year of being hired due to struggling with the transition from academic practice into clinical practice (Van Camp & Chappy, 2017). To combat this crisis hospitals are being encouraged to provide programs to improve retention rates among novice nurses (Medas et al., 2015).

During the last year of nursing school, students pursue externship programs to help secure employment and on-the-job training. Externships can be a handy way for hospitals to recruit nurses while still in school. During the externship, senior nursing students are exposed to the clinical setting as they shadow and mentored by experienced staff nurses. According to Soto (2015), the key to improving retention and reducing cost is by the implementation of a nurse residency program in the form of an externship, internship, or mentorship. Some organizations rotate nurse residences through different units, helping them to find the specialty that complements their skill set and interest. Hence helping decrease the turnover rate within the first year due to the dissatisfaction of the unit by placing them with a specific population of interest (Walsh, 2018). Patricia Benner’s model “From Novice to Expert: Excellence and Power in Clinical Nursing Practice” is a concept of competence and gain experience that helps nurses regarding patient care as they continue with their career; nurses less than six months to a year of expertise are in the novice stage and learns through instructions (Arzani, Lotfi, & Abedi, 2016).

The cost spent on training is roughly $88,000 per nurse with 6 to 15 months invested is unfavorable if turnover rates are high (Eckerson, 2018). If training is in a specialty area, the cost could be upwards to $120,000 for per novice nurse (Van Camp & Chappy, 2017). Novice nurses face exciting and stressful challenges upon entering the clinical setting, constantly learning critical skills that are fundamental for the longevity of practice, which can be overwhelming and discouraging. Lack of support from the organization may impact the recruitment and retention rates. Participation in nurse residency programs offers a transition and guided supportive training environment, which provides consistency in a safe place to discuss, while building confidence and competence in nurses (Medas et al., 2015). During debriefing sessions free of disciplinary actions; facilitates future ethical practices of patient safety. Having a residency program reduces stress and anxiety compared to new nurses with no program to adjust to a new role by themselves (Edwards, Hawker, Carrier, & Rees, 2015). Improving job satisfaction by increasing nurses feelings of empowerment by reducing work-related bullying and burnout can sway nurses from leaving unit or organization (Bontrager, Hart, & Mareno, 2016).

The Crucible (Character Analysis)

Mass hysteria is a social phenomenon where fear spreads uncontrollably throughout a population. The main aspect of the plot of Aruthur Miller’s The Crucible is that neighbors suddenly turn against each other and accuse one another of participating in witchcraft and worshipping the Devil. As accusations of witchcraft progressingly occur, a thematic significance of hysteria quickly builds throughout the town of Salem. Frenzy becomes larger than the influences of rational voices in the community, making it insurmountable, overriding logic and is enhanced and intensified by the presence of people acting out on their fear. Through illustrating the prominent role hysteria plays in tearing apart a community, Arthur Miller’s The Crucible conveys through characterization that mass hysteria can tear apart a community.

Throughout the play, hysteria regarding witchcraft spreads about the town of Salem. An environment is established in which characters can act out on grudges. Several characters in The Crucible take that advantage and thrive on the phenomenon. The most intriguing character in the play is antagonist Abigail Williams, the force responsible for putting the witch hysteria into action. Miller provides perfect details which support her role as one of the true villains. Motivated by wanting John Proctor all to herself and having witnessed the brutal murder of her parents, Abigail is selfish and manipulative, which is seen when she tries to guilt John into continuing their affair, guilting him with the words “You loved me, John Proctor, and whatever sin it is, you love me yet! John, pity me, pity me!” (Miller 24) . It is learned that Abigail is jealous of John Proctor’s wife Elizabeth as she claims in Act I, “...it is a bitter woman, a lying, cold, sniveling woman, and I will not work for such a woman!” (Miller 11). Abigail expresses her strong dislike toward Goody Proctor by referring to her as “it” (Miller 11). She then takes advantage of the hysteric environment to later accusing Elizabeth of witchcraft and have Elizabeth arrested. Through a character as agressive and cunning as the young Abigail Williams, Miller portrays how power hungry individuals will destroy everything in their path to get what they want.

Mary Warren, a pawn in the ploy Abigail concocts to replace Elizabeth, is Miller’s way of showing through a character that being swept up in mass hysteria can cause even the most good-hearted people to commit destructive acts. In contrast to a manipulative character such as Abigail, Mary Warren is “...a subservient, lonely girl” (Miller 25), more innocent and obedient. Mary’s innocence and fearfulness show when she feels guilty about the girls’ activity in the woods, saying “Abby, we’ve got to tell. Witchery's a hangin' error...We must tell the truth, Abby!” (Miller 147). Mary is one of few souls that have knowledge of the affair, and she is motivated by her fear of what Abigail is capable of doing to her if she spoke word of it, as well as her fear of getting in trouble. As a result of her motivations, Mary goes to court determined to testify that the girls were pretending until she realizes “They’ll turn on me! I cannot do it!” (Miller 80). Warren takes advantage of the hysteria when it gives her a sense of pride and status in society, as she had evolved from being a nobody to being an official in court, claiming “...It’s God’s work we do.. I am an official of the court” (Miller 58). When Mary does get accused of witchcraft by the girls, she panics under pressure and reacts by breaking down and pointing a finger at Proctor, claiming “you’re the Devil’s man!...he wakes me every night...and I sign…” (Miller 80). Mary’s weak will and timid nature are factors that cause her to feed the play’s theme of hysteria, how people will succumb to pressures in society.

An additional character that hints at the devastation in a town of hysteria is Giles Corey. Miller depicts true heroism through this character. Giles is introduced as a man “knotted with muscle, canny, inquisitive, and still powerful” (Miller 31). Throughout the play, Giles emerges from being a stubborn, foolish old man to a true and honorable hero, showing respect for his wife and sons when he withstands the hysteria of the Salem Witch Trials. Corey places suspicion of witchery on his wife Martha, claiming “...last night - mark this - I tried and tried and could not say my prayers. And then she close her book and walks out of the house, and suddenly- mark this- I could pray again!” (Miller, 40). Feeling guilty for unknowingly getting his wife Martha accused of witchcraft, Corey tells the court the blame is to be placed on Thomas Putnam, exclaiming “the proof is there! I have it from an honest man who heard Putnam say it!” (Miller 77), accusing Putnam of “killing his neighbors for their land” (Miller 96). Giles’ statement also shows that supporting character Putnam,“a well-to-do, hard-handed landowner, near fifty” (Miller 13) and a selfish opportunist, jumps on the bandwagon when the accusations emerge, using the hysteria to increase his own wealth. It becomes clear that Giles has been swept up in the hysteria when he helplessly sobs “I never had no wife that be so taken with books, and I thought to find the cause of it...it were no witch I blamed her for…” (Miller 86). Motivated to gain money and land from the accused as well as , Corey refused to break and give the name of said individual who accused Putnam by saying defiantly “I will not give you no name. I mentioned my wife’s name once and I’ll burn in hell long enough for that. I stand mute.” (Miller 97). He is pressed to death with heavy stones for remaining silent, neither admitting or denying participation in witchcraft. Elizabeth reveals that “he were not hanged. He would not answer aye or nay to his indictment; for if he denied the charge they'd hang him surely, and auction out his property. So he stand mute, and died Christian under the law. And so his sons will have his farm.” (Miller 135), showing such bravery in the fact that Giles would rather die than confess to involvement in witchcraft. The outcome of those actions is that his sons inherit his land and his family’s good reputation stays intact, showing incredible courage and strength. Instead of giving the court a name and saving his life by causing another man to hang, Corey chooses to die without giving the court what they wanted and even utters his last words, “more weight!” (Miller 186). Refusing to give in to the hysteria for the sake of his family and his fellow man is what makes Miller’s character Giles Corey so audacious.

Protagonist John Proctor, emphasizes the journey of hysteria because his actions unravel a major series of events in Salem. Miller distinguishes tragic heroism through this character, describing Proctor as a calm and independent man, yet also a sinner with a tortured soul. Despite living his life with a good name “respected and even feared in Salem (Miller 20), he commits adultery by having an affair with Abigail, for which he is overwhelmed by guilt as he tells his wife Elizabeth, “were I a stone, I would have cracked for shame this seven month” (Miller 31). Proctor knows Abigail’s allegations of witchcraft floating around town are lies as he says to Reverend Hale “I’ve heard you to be a sensible man, Mr. Hale. I hope you’ll leave some of that in Salem” (Miller 41) indicating his awareness of the absurdity of the witch situation His affair with Abigail is the source of his undoing as the girl uses it to accuse John’s wife of witchcraft in hopes of taking her place. He adds to the hysteria by committing adultery with Abigail and telling her “I think of you softly from time to time” (Miller 18), getting into the child’s head and fooling her into pining for him to be her husband with “whatever promise she may sense” (Miller 186). As opposed to having committed a sin, Proctor is a very honest man and deep down he values the truth, which is seen when he exclaims “...it speaks deceit and I am honest! But I’ll plead no more! I see now your spirit twists around the single error of my life, and I will never tear it free!” (Miller 61). Proctor is clearly agonized by his disloyalty to his wife, and the torn agony projects his heroic characteristics as he depicts his inner struggle against himself and his self-perception.

The hysteria propagated by Abigail is a central topic in the play. Many characters react to the phenomenon in their own individual ways; if not standing up to the hysteria, some use it to fulfill their selfish desires or avenge others who have wronged them. Through characterization of the attributes of several characters, Arthur Miller conveys that the delirium and panic otherwise known as mass hysteria can dramatically effect a town by tearing its people apart. Arthur Miller uses his characters as tools to convey the extent of the mass hysteria in Salem during the witch trials.

Cognitive, Anchoring and Negative Biases

Cognitive Bias is when we process and interpret information, so we can make our own decision and or judgement. Sometimes we make decisions based on our memories or how we feel and sometimes even the simplest decisions can be difficult to make because of how we feel or think, making our decisions being irrational over being logical. There are many different types of cognitive biases, some of which we do not all experience at the same time.

Anchoring bias is when we rely too much on one piece or information when we make our decisions. In an experiment explained by Dr. Laurie Santos, Associates Professor of Psychology, Yale University, she shows us that we can be given the same mathematical problem reversed but we will think that the total outcome would be different. For instance, the mathematical problem she used was “8x7x6x5x4x3x2x1=” and said that the people would roughly assume that it is around 2250. The other mathematical problem she used was “1x2x3x4x5x6x7x8=” and for this one the people guessed a lower number than 2250. The answers to both the problems was 40,320. Dr. Laurie Santos explains that the reason why people give different answers to the same question is because of how we make estimate. when we have time to answer a problem like that, we will be able to multiply every number together to get an exact answer. But when we do not have time to answer we come up with our own estimates leaving us with an improper outcome.

Negative bias is when we give more attention to negative things as opposed to the positive things. Thinking negatively about things can cloud our decisions. There can be a job opening that you know you are qualified for but because you think negatively about how the interview may go of how you may say the wrong things and screw up your interview, you decide its best not to go because you’ve already made your assumption that you will not get this job. You are losing an opportunity because you could not think that maybe you can have a great interview and be the best candidate for the job and in the end receiving that position.

Anchoring can be also used with emotions, after all we are still estimating using our emotions. We are sometimes anchored with our emotions and it can lead us to do decide on things differently. sometimes I am anchored to deciding on things that I should be achieving in my life. For example, I’ve just started school although I should have started a couple of years ago. I have let my emotions guide my judgment. Not knowing how my future would be like handling many things at once would work. Afraid to fail academically while trying to handle work and worrying about how failing would affect my working abilities. I had let myself estimate the possibility of juggling many things at once by anchoring me feelings on the matter of being a student while working, having to depend only on myself because I don’t live with family, and having a social life. Felling emotionally negative about my future and how will things work out lead me to go a few years without starting school until now. If everyone in our society anchors their emotions on decision making and estimating things would be different. If most people weighed decisions negatively on anything in their life it would be hard to achieve what we want or excel in life and our career. Maybe some companies might not have any sales or bargains thus making them seem too expensive because the anchoring bias will not work properly. If I go to a store and find a pair of shoes that i really like I will think about the price and if they do not have a sale going on I may think that it’s too expensive because I can just go somewhere else and find the same pair of shoes but for less than what the other store was selling them for. That’s where they would lose out on money, not just from myself but from others as well, the company would not prosper.

Do you ever wonder what will happen to our world if pollution ever stops? Pollution keeps making our world dirtier and dirtier every day. This is why we should start teaching people about pollution through clubs in school. Clubs to clean up the environment should be created to teach students that we need to care about the environment, clean up the environment before our world is completely polluted and start a movement that could spread worldwide.

Clubs should be created in schools to clean up the environment because this can start teaching students early that it is important to keep the environment clean and a place that is free from pollution. If students are not taught early that we need to keep the environment clean our world could end up being quite polluted. The students found in schools are the future of the human race and will be making crucial decisions about our environment. The world is in the hands of our children.

Clubs should be created in schools to help the environment because we need to clean up our world before pollution goes too far. There will be a turning point in this world in which the world has gone beyond cleaning up. This would maybe mean the death of the entire human race or even us having to leave earth. We should have clubs to clean up the environment so we can do something about pollution now before it is too late! Once the world has gone too far with pollution there will be no turning back.

Lastly, clubs should be created in schools to help the environment because this could eventually start a movement worldwide. If everyone in our world decided to take a stand on pollution the world could be cleaned up quite quickly. Businesses would stop putting pollutants into the air, we would all find cleaner ways of transportation, and global warming might start to decrease. Not only that, but these clubs would be in schools all around the world, and there might be more organizations that spring up from this movement. Together the entire world can stop pollution.

In conclusion, we should start clubs to clean up the environment not only to clean up the environment but to make our world a better place. If students know how important keeping our world clean is, then we would never have to worry about pollution in the future.

Central Idea of “The Lottery”

Most of the time people follow and adhere to tradition mainly because it is expected of them; rather than practicing the tradition because one understands and accepts the concept behind it. 'The Lottery' by Shirley Jackson, depicts the story of a town which has a yearly custom of holding a lottery wherein they pick one resident of the town to murder. Jackson utilizes irony and symbolism to convey how individuals must not follow rituals without an explanation.

Conventions frequently have meaning when initially began, yet, Jackson uses symbolism to show how these customs may lose their importance after some time. An image that portrays that thought is the utilization of stones to complete the lottery. At the point when the town, at last, chooses a victim, they generally use the outmoded technique of stoning to murder them. “Although the villagers had forgotten the ritual and lost the original box, they still remembered to use stones.”(222) Jackson utilizes this as a symbol of the extinct and inhumane styles of numerous old rituals. Even though they could have used a less difficult, approach to execute their victim, they decided to keep using the barbarous, antiquated technique they had been taught to utilize. This speaks to how the lottery, in the same way as other different traditions, is an antique occasion that no longer makes sense to continue, except if one has just learned to proceed with their customs. By having the characters stick to stones that speak to the outdated idea of the lottery, Jackson shows how individuals stick to traditions paying little mind to how old and immortal they may appear.

Jackson uses irony in The Lottery to indicate the theme of not blindly following tradition. One character she uses to indicate the theme is Old Man Warner. Old Man Warner, the eldest member of the village, despises any change of traditions regarding the lottery. When some of the nearby village members entertain the concept of eliminating the lottery for good, as other villages had, he said, “Nothing but trouble in that...Pack of young fools.”(220) Although he remains dedicated to the lottery, he doesn't know why the lottery started or its original purpose. He still incorporates a powerful voice, and no matter whether or not he knows why the tradition started, the villagers still hear him. Old Man Warner shows that when individuals are taught to think a particular way for his or her whole lives, they're going to always feel skeptical of any change. Old Man Warner also shows how humans look to elders for advice on tradition, no matter whether or not they honestly are aware of it. Another example of irony within the story is what happens to another resident from the village, Mrs. Hutchinson. Similar to all the other villagers, Mrs. Hutchinson didn't worry about the lottery as a kind of special event, even appeared late because she wanted to complete her dishes.“‘Wouldn’t have me leave m’dishes in the sink, now, would you, Joe?’”(218) Mrs.Hutchinson explains to the lottery conductor Joe Summers casually. The lottery has lost meaning to her since it never significantly affected her life. When the results of the primary drawing came in for her family, one would expect her to just accept it since the lottery was so normal for them. However, she protested saying that it was not fair. She ended up being picked and killed, all the while screaming, “It isn’t fair, it isn’t right.”(223) Jackson uses that to point out how although the lottery had a horrible conclusion once a year, the villagers can easily forget the horror of what happens during the lottery since they had not been picked. Mrs. Hutchinson merely saw the lottery as another town gathering, so she didn't consider the grave danger of it until her own death was imminent.

Jackson uses this little village, unwilling to let go of their horrifying tradition, to indicate how residents of the current world refuse to surrender their own traditions, whether or not they benefit anybody. If the people of the village would opt to consider the horrors they were creating, rather than simply looking forward to tradition, they'd clearly see how foolish it was for them to stay participating during this terrifying ritual. By changing bad or unmeaningful traditions, the world can change, but in the condition that, the minds of those who won't let their traditions go can change as well.

Being Alone: Novel “Of Mice and Men”

“Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty.” By Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa was saying in this quote that poverty at the time was nothing compared to being lonely and feeling unwanted.

In the novel Of Mice And Men three characters relate to these quotes and problems. George, Curley’s wife and Crooks have all lived lonely and isolated lives. George is the first character in the novel who is the least lonely and isolated. We know this because in the novel Of Mice And Men, George infers he could live a better life without Lennie. George talks about how he could have his own family without Lennie. George does not want Lennie to leave because they would be alone and apart from each other. George knew Lennie could not live on his own but George did not want Lennie as his responsibility anymore. After George killed Lennie, he could did not want to have a ranch like before because the dream was for George and Lennie. George tells Lennie “ ‘Cause I want you to stay with me” (13). In conclusion George was lonely when Lennie was around and when Lennie died.

A second character who leads a lonely and isolated life is Curley’s wife. Curley’s wife wonders why she can not talk to Lennie and she says she can not talk to anyone and that she is awfully lonely. Curley’s wife also says she does not like Curley and she was not happy. Curley’s wife was the only woman on the ranch and did not have anyone to talk to. Curley’s wife says to Lennie “ why can not I talk to you? I never get to talk to anybody. I get awful lonely” (86). In conclusion Curley’s wife was not happy in her marriage and she was the only woman in the area so she had no woman to relate to and talk to.

Finally Crooks is the character in the novel who suffers from lonliest the most. Crooks says he can not play cards or go in the bunk house because he is African American. That is why he stays in the barn. While talking to Lennie, Crooks talks about his family and how his dad had his own chicken ranch in another part of California. Because Crooks is an African American man Curley’s wife threatened his life when he tried to stand his ground. Curley’s wife says to Crooks “ well you keep your place then, nigger. I could get you strung up on a tree so easy it ain't even funny” (81). Ultimately Crooks was lonely because of his race in this time period that was a big thing, also he had no family round or to run too .

No matter the ending all three characters suffered loneliness. Such as George, Curley’s wife and Crooks. George was like family to Lennie and can not fulfil his dreams without Lennie. Curley’s wife was manipulative but had no other women around and no friends. Crooks was alone with no family around and no one wanted him in the bunk house because he was an African American. Sometimes in life some people may be lonely and isolated, that's another reason why we should be kind and accepting to one another .

Principles of Mcdonaldization

One of the central challenges of living in an increasingly industrialized world is the shift in the economy caused by businesses that naturally emerge as an effort to save money. As new technology develops, it becomes much easier for companies to find alternatives to human labor in many positions, typically by introducing automated services or products that eliminate the need for people. This shift is part of a larger corporate trend called McDonaldization, a term that was first invented and popularized by George Ritzer. McDonaldization refers to the process by which companies begin to compartmentalize their most essential functions into specific duties and then working to ensure that those duties are all met in a fixed way, every time they are performed. Ritzer’s basis for explaining McDonaldization is that the process is rooted in the pursuit of rationalization, which itself aims to achieve the highest level of efficiency possible (Burleson, n.d., para. 3). At its most fundamental, the process of McDonaldization exists to attempt to find the most efficient way of completing the most essential duties of any business and ensure that these methods are followed without fail by all employees or machines to ensure a standardized product or result.

Ritzer’s definition of McDonaldization centers around four key dimensions of the process. These are efficiency, predictability, calculability, and control, with nonhuman technology and quantity measures being supplementary dimensions. As automation increasingly looms in the near future, many companies have begun to shift their business models in order to ensure they continue profiting, and one of the most glaring examples of this is Amazon. Amazon has widely embraced McDonaldization in its business mode, beginning with its online site. Its website allows users to easily access their personal account information, search for goods, and have all relevant information regarding products listed clearly and directly. Shopping is simplified to its most essential processes on Amazon.com, and Amazon’s shipping process also follows the McDonaldization ethos. In shipping centers, some employees are guided by devices that give them clear instructions on what products to pick, while others are tasked with packaging these products into boxes, working machines that finish preparing them, and sending them off for delivery (Amazon, n.d., p. 1).

There are clear benefits associated with embracing the dimensions of McDonaldization. This model ensures that there is a clear outcome on every transaction and that the experience of customers and employees remains consistent and dependable. Expectations are clear for employees, meaning that excuses for poor performance or failures can quickly be isolated and addressed appropriately. Customers, on the other hand, are provided with a product or service they need without having to litigate with complicated systems or operations, allowing them to have a more pleasant experience. Unfortunately, these dimensions also stifle innovation within any given company, as employees are not allowed to deviate from their instructions. Customers may also feel detached from their products, potentially impacting their willingness to engage with the company, and an employee shortcoming may be easily over penalized.

Amazon’s core business model depends on their ability to provide goods and services quickly and dependably. McDonaldization undoubtedly allows Amazon to achieve this goal much easier than a more loosely structured system of operations would. The company approaches their objectives extremely rationally, and while this has been clearly effective and beneficial form a business standpoint I believe that it is undeniable that the system has also been harmful in many ways. Numerous Amazon workers have complained over the course of several years about abuses carried out by the company that detrimentally affect the wellbeing of its employees. Moreover, this system can make it easier to rationalize ethically compromising practices in the name of personal or organizational gain, making McDonaldization a questionable system of operations, at best. I have found that McDonaldization in my own social experiences has been beneficial, in the sense that I know what I can expect from certain corporations. However, there are certain aspects of my life where McDonaldization has been implemented and it’s not a fit for the industry it has infiltrated. One example is healthcare, it’s hurting more than it’s helping providers and patients.

Following Rules to Safely Shedding

Shedding is that the course toward riddance dead skin cells from the skin layer of your skin. though a couple of individuals trust this redesigns the closeness of their skin, it's not for everyone and – if not done genuinely – may win a great deal of hurt than everything else.

On the off chance that you shed, it's fundamental to endeavor to everything pondered securely with the objective that it doesn't hurt your skin or result in expanded redness or skin disturbance breakouts.

Since each very revealing probably won't work for each skin sort, it's essential to consider your skin sort before choosing a shedding philosophy:

  • Sensitive skin could sting or exhaust once factor use
  • Customary skin is evident and not intense
  • Dry skin is flaky, irritating or coldblooded
  • Oily skin is sparkling and smooth
  • Combination skin is dry in an exceedingly couple of zones and wash in others

There are 2 basic frameworks for at-home revealing – mechanical and compound – and furthermore the system you choose should be guided by your skin sort. Mechanical revealing uses a creation, for instance, a brush or wipe, or a scour to physically expel dead skin cells. Compound shedding utilizes synthetics, for instance, alpha and beta radical acids, to delicately isolate dead skin cells.

  2. Pick a revealing system that suits your skin type: Those with dry, touchy or skin escape inclined skin could lean toward just a washrag and a delicate manufacturing plant made exfoliator, as mechanical shedding could likewise be strangely angering for this skin sort. Those with wash, thicker skin may need to utilize a great deal of grounded substance medicines or mechanical revealing. Regardless, proceed with a huge detachment from powerful compound or mechanical revealing in the event that you have a darker skin tone or notice decrease spots on your skin once exhausts, bug tidbit or skin escape breakouts. For a couple of individuals, especially those with darker skin tones, unremittingly directing assortments of revealing could prompt exhausting spots on the skin.
  3. Be delicate to your skin: If you use a scour or compound exfoliator, apply the factor demandingly abuse close nothing, roundabout improvements. do that for around thirty seconds, and along these lines expel with tepid – not hot – water. On the off chance that you use a brush or wipe, utilize short lightweight strokes. ne'er strip on the off chance that you have open cuts or wounds or if your skin is unfortunate.

Ophelia’s Madness

Toward the start of the play, Ophelia as observed as an extremely charming and well mannered character. Ophelia is overpowered with her dad's passing, as she goes into the room singing garbage tunes, which depict mental disintegration. She is appeared to be extremely harmed and upset, she sings a melody about how her dad is 'dead and gone'. From the earliest starting point, Ophelia keeps on being saved all through the scene, she doesn't appear to be frantic, be that as it may, where it counts - she most likely is. The reactions she provides for Hamlet, bodes well, however are excessively short and inconsequential.

At the point when Hamlet asks Ophelia to lay his head upon her lap, amid the play inside the play, she more likely than not been humiliated, yet she answers apathetically. Ophelia essentially disregards Hamlet's inconsiderate conduct and stays conscious all through the play. Close as far as possible of Act IV, Ophelia goes distraught and is discovered dead, from suffocating, this symbolizes the demise of the kingdom and can be viewed as the corruptness that happens all through the kingdom and symbolizes the contempt inside. Images seen all through the play, are franticness and demise. Franticness speaking to the mayhem, caused by power and covetousness, trailed by death, speaking to the eventual fate of the kingdom - if nothing is changed. Despite the fact that Ophelia profoundly thinks about Hamlet, she was disallowed to keep seeing and having such chief of naval operations affections towards him by the requests of her dad and sibling. She is an extraordinary case for of a faithful kid that each parent would need. Perusing the discussion between them, it is of a programmed felt that Ophelia is complying with her dad since it is aware and the correct activity. At the point when the life of Polonius leaves, so does the mental soundness of Ophelia. Being crushed from the death of her dad, Ophelia understands that she has nobody in her life any longer.

With Laertes in France and Hamlet (when her sweetheart transformed into her ex-darling) being angry with her, she lamentably feels alone on the planet, making her swing to death. 'O, this is the toxin of profound anguish: it springs all rom her dad's death.... poor Ophelia separated from herself and her reasonable judgment, without the which we are pictures, or insignificant brutes;… ' From the King's perspective and the prior discussion with Polonius, it is comprehended that Polonius and Ophelia have an incredible dad little girl security. By muffling herself of franticness, this symbolizes the kingdom will likewise go down base on the stupid activities of the pioneers.

Ophelia has dependably been viewed as the kind of individual who might tune in and pursue orders, particularly from her dad.

Perusing the discussion between them, it is of a programmed imagined that Ophelia is complying with her dad since it is aware and the correct activity.

In any case, the express sexual references in Ophelia's melodies maybe represent her fixation on the now missing Hamlet, as in 'promising his affection' to her prior in the play and afterward being hated, she is doubly devastated close by the demise of her dad. With lines like 'Young fellows will do't on the off chance that they come to't/By Cock, they are to be faulted' means a bizarre and maybe angled reference to a wanton or just capricious man who guarantees love (or sex here with 'chicken') however retreats after a concise time (4.5.59-60). This is intensified on by a following line, 'You guaranteed me to marry,/So would I 'a' done, by there sun,/A thou hadst not go to my bed.' and it is this piece of Ophelia's tune that presumable damns Hamlet as a reason for her psychological breaking (4.5.62-64).

In spite of the fact that the man in the melody has guaranteed the speaker that they will before long marry, he has abandoned her for no obvious reason and like Hamlet's supposed cases of affection and marriage to Ophelia, so too has Hamlet broken those promises for reasons unbeknownst. Almost certainly, Ophelia has focused upon Hamlet's 'contemptible' pledge breaking to such an extent that in not requiring her adoration, Hamlet has made both her extremely upset and her poor personality. Ophelia exists as a heartbreaking character in Hamlet and one that is totally pitiable in light of tragic conditions that she has been put through.

Toward the start of the play, Ophelia as observed as an exceptionally charming and pleasant character. Ophelia is overpowered with her dad's passing, as she goes into the room singing gibberish tunes, which depict mental decay. She is appeared to be exceptionally harmed and distressed, she sings a melody about how her dad is 'dead and gone'. From the earliest starting point, Ophelia keeps on being held all through the scene, she doesn't appear to be distraught, be that as it may, where it counts - she likely is. The reactions she provides for Hamlet, bodes well, yet are excessively short and unimportant. Close as far as possible of Act IV, Ophelia goes frantic and is discovered dead, from suffocating, this symbolizes the demise of the kingdom and can be viewed as the corruptness that happens all through the kingdom and symbolizes the disdain inside. Images seen all through the play, are frenzy and passing. Frenzy speaking to the disorder, caused by power and insatiability, trailed by death, speaking to the fate of the kingdom - if nothing is changed.

We can say that ophelia is distraught in light of the fact that she lost her dad and furthermore she is frantic due to every one of the things that are going on in the kingdom, we can unmistakably perceive how she radically changes, and toward the finish of this demonstration we perceive how she suffocates herself. Her distresses are practically contrasted and villa's nevertheless she sort of goes extremely, dislike village which is a 'phony' insane. Her insanity can likewise be credited to the way that villa declined her and relinquished her, that makes her extremely tragic that she circumvents the kingdom and sings those insane tunes about men, etc. Her frenzy and demise symbolizes all the spoiled things in denmark and the fall of the kingdom.

Personal Background Essay

Life can be hard enough without creating extra problems for ourselves. In an instant life can change course. I remember the day I broke my ankle in ballet class at the age of 12 years. I was the youngest ballerina dancing with the older girls of The Junior Company of Palm Valley Gymnastics and Dance in Harlingen, Texas. Rebounding from my devastating injury gave me a competitive edge. Looking for a way to challenge this newfound energy I joined the Middle School Speech, Drama, and Debate Team. This was the beginning of my sense of identity, self-esteem, alongside providing a constructive way to cope with overall stressors. My commitment and success in Speech, Drama, and Debate are markers of my personal qualities: dedication, integrity and leadership. One of the best parts of being successful is having the opportunity to inspire others. Living in a low socioeconomic background community has opened my eyes to the reality of glaring disparities between social classes. Now having the opportunity to teach dance and speech skills to those who would never otherwise be able to afford a traditional mentorship is truly a remarkable opportunity to give back to the community that deserves it. Helping others comes in many forms, but where I find my niche is through developing the young. There is no better feeling than when a young member of the Fine Arts Academy or middle school Speech, Drama, and Debate team reaches out to contact you and thank you for the role you played in their personal success. Innate integrity, the essential ingredient in being an ethical person.

My dedication to personal and professional successes are built on this foundation. I choose to do what I think is right regardless of the consequences attached to my decisions. Every speech written or performed for an audience represents where I stand in this world on critical issues. Every class taught is done with the intention of enhancing childhood emotional and physical development. Every action taken in my life is one step further toward achieving my goals of inclusion and compassion. I adhere to a strict life plan: listen and learn. Following that principle, I believe I can make a positive difference in the lives of others. I genuinely enjoy my responsibilities, not for the sake of power, but for the meaningful and personal impact they can create. An ordinary person like myself can make a difference in the world.

Pros and Cons of Wearing School Uniforms

Education is not only studying. It contains of many different factors, such as students’ attitude to learning, the environment they learn in, books they learn from and even, as revealed, clothes they wear while learning. Many private and public schools force their students to wear uniforms. But does it have positive or negative impact on them? What are the advantages and disadvantages of it?

Starting up with cons, school uniforms put restrictions on students’ freedom of expression. Teenagers put a lot attention to their appearance. It is natural that they want to look unique and unlike anybody else. The need of expression through clothing in an important feature of teenage years, so if the school forbades it, I it does it against adolescents’ nature.

Secondly, uniforms may have a hurtful impact on students’ self-image. When every person in a school has to wear exactly the same clothes, it may cause a lot of insecurities in students who have different body features than regular ones. For example, very tall, very short, very skinny or overweight person will not look as good as a middle-high and middle-weight one in some specific piece of clothing. People who have different body types should have the ability to wear clothes suitable to them in order to look good and, more importantly, feel good with themselves.

Thirdly, uniforms in public schools undermine the promise of a free education. They are usually quite expensive, but parents have to buy them anyway when their children go to one of the schools where they are mandatory. . Uniforms simply impose extra expenses on family when there is actually no need for it.

But there are also pros of wearing school uniforms . First up, school uniforms keep students focused on their education, not their clothes. As I previously mentioned, it is natural for teenagers to pay a lot of attention to their appearance. But on the other hand it may have, on long term, negative impact on their school results. Wearing uniforms may help students to stay focused on things that really matters in education.

Secondly, wearing uniforms enhances school’s unity and community spirit. Teenagers want to find the place they really belong. Why can’t it be school? They want to be part of different subcultures and groups, they want to have something in common with other people. Why can’t them be school mates? Uniforms may represent a kind of connection between students and for some help to awake their inner team spirit.

Thirdly, wearing a school uniform is simply a very comfortable option, especially for ones always in hurry in the morning. School uniforms make getting ready for school easier, which can improve students’ punctuality.

Summing up, it is hard to make a decision whether students should have to wear school uniforms or not. One thing is clear- this issue has both pluses and minuses, so every school with or without mandatory uniforms is somehow right.

Opinion about Veganism

Many people refer to veganism as not eating or using animal products. Although this covers the foundation of veganism, it is simply much more than that. One might say that veganism runs on one core value: betterment. Vegans show betterment to self, nature, society, and so much more! The other alternatives are all very cruel and harsh. Our environment is steadily deteriorating. We are not helping ourselves or mankind as a whole, in fact, we are endangering many lives. The way animals are treated is inhumane and frankly, unacceptable. Veganism is the best and most moral option, because you can help save humans, animals, and the environment.

The amount of ways veganism can save humanity are endless. According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the American Dietetic Association, vegetarians have a reduced risk of, “heart disease, cancer, obesity, hypertension, diabetes, high blood pressure, colon cancer, adult-onset diabetes, osteoporosis, gout, gallstones, kidney stones, lung cancer, and breast cancer,” in comparison to meat-eaters. In addition to these diseases and more, animal products contain many harmful toxins including bacteria, arsenic, dioxins, and mercury. These contaminants can affect our health in the short-term and in the long-term. These are detrimental to our health, and in many cases they are proven to be fatal. Vegans can easily consume all of the nutrients that their bodies need to be healthy without everything in animal products that can slow you down and make you sick, such as cholesterol and saturated animal fat. Animals are often infected by feces, blood, and many other bodily fluids— these result in animal-derived foods being the top reason for food poisoning in the United States. Meat production being a leading cause of greenhouse gas emissions and other atmospheric pollution results in respiratory diseases like asthma, bronchitis, and COPD, as well as increased chances of acquiring pneumonia from bacterial infections. Researchers at the University of Minnesota’s Institute on the Environment discovered that 36 percent of calories in crops are used to livestock, a measly 12 percent of these calories become part of our human diet through meat. Looking at this study, we lost close to two-thirds of the calories that would have been available to us if we ate the grains directly from the beginning. About 13 pounds of grain are used to bring about one pound of meat, and this abundance of grain could help feed hundreds of millions of people all around the world. It was also concluded that growing crops directly for human consumption results in newly freed-up crops that would be enough to feed an extra 4 billion people, and to cover the food for the estimated 2 to 3 billion people by 2050.

Each individual vegan saves an average of 200 or more animals per year. These animals who feel emotions such as fear and pain just like the animals who share our homes do are placed in overcrowded stalls, cages, etc… where they are often unable to turn around. They are deprived of everything they need such as breathing fresh air, seeing the sun, veterinary care, exercise, the feel of grass beneath their feet, and much more. In some farms, these animals are fed 'renders,' dead and grounded up cows. The feedlots are crowded, filthy, and horrendously smelling places with stifling air.If not for the large amount of anti-infection agents they were fed, the creatures would not endure. These animals are often injected with stimulants and hormones to make them grow larger and quicker. Numerous dairy farmers utilize a development hormone: rBGH to boost their milk production, disregarding that this chemical which causes cancer and different sicknesses appears in the milk. Animal losses not related to slaughterhouses include the many species-rich habitats, such as large amounts of the Amazon region, which are being converted to agricultural land for meat production, resulting in countless animals losing their homes and dying. Each year in the United States only, over 3 million animals, including endangered species and domesticated cats and dogs, are barbarically killed by a federal agency called Wildlife Services in an effort to get rid of wildlife that could possibly attack the livestock. These living, breathing, thinking, feeling beings, whose senses are much like our own, suffer and die at the rate of millions per day just so we can have burgers, patties, nuggets, and so much more. Choosing what we will eat means picking between the repulsions of factory farming and respect for animals.

Illegal Drugs

What are drugs? “They’re bad for people’s health.” “They make people lose their minds.” People consider all drugs to be dangerous and say that they can lead to mental health problems or other issues. (health talk) Professionally, drugs are a medicine or other substance which has a physiological effect when ingested or introduced into the body. We can all say our opinion on drugs but theoretically do we know why or why not they are made illegal?

Drugs have been around the world for quite a while. For example one of the main drugs known out there is Marijuana. It was brought to the New World in 1545 by the Spanish then later, the English introduced it into Jamestown in 1611, by this time it became a major commercial crop alongside tobacco and was grown as a source of fiber. By 1890, hemp, the cannabis plant, had already been replaced by cotton as a major cash crop in southern states, but by the 1920’s marijuana began to get well known. Marijuana by this time was tolerated by the authorities because it was not illegal and it was not considered a bad influence nor a social threat. The legalization of marijuana has been a whole rollercoaster. Some patent medicines during this time contained marijuana, but it was a small percentage compared to the number of medications containing opium or cocaine. The real question now is, when did drug laws initiate?

In the late 1960s drugs became well known by white, middle class, Americans. Marijuana was not illegal right away when it was discovered. The first anti-marijuana laws, were in the Midwest and the Southwest in the 1910s and 20s, they were directed at Mexican migrants and Mexican Americans. According to research today, black and and latino communities are still subject to wildly disproportionate drug enforcement and sentencing practices. Hispanics and blacks are the most known for trafficking illegal substances such as cocaine, marijuana and other narcotic chemicals. “The incidence of antisocial behavior among young black males continues to be extraordinarily high. Apart from white racial attitudes, this is the biggest problem black Americans face, and in part it helps shape white racial attitudes.”, Michael Javen Fortner stated. Since black people were doing all these illegal crimes, it made the white Americans look high class. Although some don’t have an option on creating these crimes, they are forced by the situations they are in. For instance all the racism our world has created makes it hard for foreign people to find a decent job, therefore they are forced to sell or distribute these drugs.

Not all drugs out there are illegal. For example alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, and acetaminophen are all allowed legal in the United States. Interesting how cigarettes remain legal while weed is banned, even if both are smoked the same way. As cigarette smoking claims more than 5 million lives around the world annually, one might rightly wonder why that is the case. As crazy as it sounds, there are illegal drugs that are legal only if it has a medical use. For instance, Codeine is considered a painkiller available without a prescription to buy over the counter in chemists and pharmacies.

Prior to 1937, cannabis had enjoyed a 5000 year history as a therapeutic agent across many cultures. After decades of criminal prohibition the country of illegal drugs, violent traffickers still endanger life in our cities, tons of cocaine, heroin and marijuana still cross our borders unimpeded. Back in the old days, younger children were forced to independant themselves faster. They had to get a job and provide to their families with whatever they were able to. You think it was easy to find a job at 10 years of age or younger? Most definitely not. So what would they do then? In their minds it was easier to take the wrong path in their lives. Selling drugs was one of the easiest things to do. It was fast and you would get good money from it. From there it went expanding worldwide, which is exactly why now they’re restricted. Also from this people get an addiction to drugs. They start consuming them on a daily basis. Most people think drugs are just bad but don’t know the real reason why they’re bad. But the worst part is that most drugs affect the brain's 'reward circuit', causing euphoria as well as flooding it with the chemical messenger dopamine. This can lead to very serious complications

In 1996, California became the first state to approve the use of marijuana for medical purposes. According to research, marijuana is the most common illegal drug used widely around the world. They were even making petroleum jelly with cannabis in them because it was able to cure inflamed areas around the body.' Research says that those who have trouble sleeping, edibles and heavy indica buds would always help them “relax”.

In conclusion, drug laws were not always illegal. Until it got to the point where people were constantly consuming them and it started getting out of control. “In Texas, marijuana is not a controlled substance; its possession and consumptions are not covered by the Texas Controlled Substances Act.” (Drug Policy Alliance) If you are found with marijuana in Texas there are many consequences you need to face. A first time marijuana offender caught with one simple possession can face; conviction on a Class B misdemeanor charge, up to 180 days in jail, and a fine of up to $200. If a person gets caught with a possession of more than four ounces but less than five pounds of marijuana they can be charged with; a conviction on a state jail felony charge, incarceration in state jail for 180 days or up to two years, and a fine of up to $10,000. As you can see the more substance you get caught with, the more consequences you face.

10 Years after Graduation

A memorable event in my life was when I graduated from the National University 10 years ago. That university is located in San Miguel a city in El Salvador. It is a Public University in my country, and it is the largest in San Miguel. There are four more universities nationwide.

I graduated with a bachelor´s degree in Legal Sciences. Now, I am a lawyer from my country. I remember my graduation, it was in a theater in San Salvador. My family was present in that important day in my life. My husband traveled from United States to El Salvador one day before to my graduation, and we went for him to the airport. I felt so happy with his presence in that important event of my life. I graduated in December. That season of the year is perfect because the climate of my country is hot, but in December it is cool. I graduated in the morning because I lived far from the capital of my country approximately five hours driving by car.

The day of my graduation I did different activities. For instance, I woke up at two in the morning. I brushed my teeth, and later I went to a beauty salon because the owner is my friend and he did makeup me. I made an appoiment a week before my event. When I returned to my house I put on a beautiful black drees that my mother bought me with a lot of love. Later, my family and I went to San Salvador. In my graduation I received my title with honor because it was product from my sacrifice and effort. After that the act ended I took pictures with my former classmates, and later my family and I went to a restaurant to celebrate my graduation. We went to El Zocalo Restaurant. The food was delicious. The restaurant was very clean, modern and elegant.

Now I lived in United States and I am an English second language student. I want to revalidate my title in this country. I know that it is not easy to do because immigrants have many obstacles, one of this is language. In this country speak and write English it is important for a better job or for study, but there are more opportunities to who want to be successful. If we have dreams, we can fulfill these. A memorable event in my life was when I received my title because it was my first life goal, and I hope to fulfill many more because I want to be a successful person.

Importance of Music

For past years music therapy has been used as a powerful healing agent to improve psychological, physiological and emotional integration of an individual during treatment from an illness or disability. Music has various appealing qualities such as; it is aesthetic, spiritual and social which help people regain their memories back and help cope with their mental disorders. Recent studies have shown that music therapy has been very effective among the patients of Dementia as it decreases agitation, reduces disruptive behavior and abnormal motor activity.

The Alzheimer’s Association describe dementia as, “Dementia is a general term for a decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life. Memory loss is an example. Alzheimer's is the most common type of dementia” ( What is Dementia?, 2018). Music therapy helps release endorphins in your brain which improves mood and alleviates brain motor activity. Human body is a supply of neurochemicals which makes us experience all emotions in our life, one of them is endorphin which is produced by the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland.

The growing body of evidence of music therapy encourages doctors and health specialists to promote music therapy as a safe, low cost alternative than invasive surgeries to help patients cope with their mental disorders. Mathews, Steve claimed music as one of the most currently effective treatment for dementia as he explicated that, “Music therapy is currently one of the most effective – indeed, cost effective – ways of achieving respectful recognition of the agency of the dementia sufferer while at the same time enabling social life for both sufferers and their carers to be improved” (Mathews, 2015,p. 578). Music therapy has powerful tools which make immediate connections with those people who are unable to place their emotions and physical realities into words.

Loneliness can be distressing to patients and they desire emotional closeness in every stage of the disease thus music therapy conveys denotation and emotional expression directly into the lives of those suffering from advanced dementia. The music also helps reduce the aggressive behavior of the older adults with dementia such as their regular activities and communication with their spouse or families.

Music engages wide areas of brain which are involved in emotion, motivation, cognition and neuromotor functioning however it also activates the mood boosting hormones such as dopamine and endorphins to release in the blood. Recent studies have shown that music is effective for slowing down the progression of dementia in older adults for example, Renee Gendreau talks about how music changed life of a man named Walter Karski who was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, and his wife tried various therapies, but nothing seemed to work except music. Walters’ wife almost cried when he saw her husband regaining his language and signing skills back the first time, “Yesterday, ‘John Denver's classic love song brought tears to Jane's eyes as she watched Walter, with headphones in place, sing along. As his memory faded, I noticed music always seemed to calm him,’ said Jane, a Neshannock Township dentist who also serves as organist at Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church” (Gendreau, 2018).

Walter’s obsessive and compulsive behavior issues reduced significantly, as his wife made him take 11-structured music classes every week. A study carried out at Anglia Cambridge University, London which comprised of 70 older adults who attended weekly music session program called “Together in Sound”, realized their cognitive ability and recollection of past increased vastly. The Director of the Program noticed significant decrease in their levels of agitation and disruptive behaviors as he said that, “People with dementia, who completed a rating scale, noted a slight increase in mood and memory, while other aspects including energy, living conditions and physical health were rated as slightly decreased, reflecting an expected progression of their condition” (Call for more”, 2018).

Steve Mathews acknowledged music therapy as a potential intervention to slow progression of dementia as he says that, “Music therapy enables those with dementia to re-enter their social world, to be responsive to others, to participate, to converse, even to engage in some minimal kinds of interpretation” (Mathews, 2015, p. 575). Music has been explored a way to communicate with the patients of dementia who have lost their ability to comprehend and express their words. The rates of dementia are increasing widely particularly in countries like USA, Canada, Europe and Australia, which also leads to pressure on health budgets and society to find low cost, effective measures to help suffers to cope with their cognitive impairment.

Music activity is an excellent source of entertainment as it gives new insights and perceptions of life to older people which gives them an opportunity to communicate better with their loved ones and caregivers. Aldridge in his article suggests various music techniques like, “singing, instrument playing, dance-movement, music listening, composition-improvisation and musical games aim to stimulate and enhance the different functional areas of older people: physical-motor, cognitive and social-emotional areas” which improves the overall wellbeing of dementia patients to some extent.

Olivier Sacks who is a neurologist claims in his book Musicophilia that music works as a medicine to Alzheimer’s patients as he continues that, “Music is no luxury to them, but a necessity, and it can have a power beyond anything else to restore them to themselves, and to others, at least for a while' (“Call for more”, 2018). Music therapy has been shown a low cost intervention to bring back the memory of older people like, Steve Mathews explains how old songs triggers memory, “Importantly, playing old songs triggers those parts of long-term memory still unaffected by the disease.5 However, the improvements in patients may also be a function of the relationships to carers who engage in the therapy” (Mathews, 2015, p. 574).

Music has transformative qualities as Alissa Sauer explained how music works on memory, “when we learn music, we store the knowledge as procedural memory. Procedural memory is associated with routines and repetitive activities. As dementia progresses, episodic memory is destroyed but procedural memory is largely left intact” (What is Dementia? 2018). A behavioral neuroscientist Jane Flinn, at George Mason University carried out a study which comprised of 45 people affected with progressive dementia stage by giving them music singing sessions regularly for straight four months, the results showed drastic improvement in their mental acuity which even hasn’t been improved by medicines. Jane Flinn surprised to see such difference as he said, 'Twenty-one drugs to treat Alzheimer's have failed in the last nine years,' Flinn added, 'I do believe they will eventually find the right drug. But it's going so slowly. In the meantime, these non-pharmaceutical approaches are helpful' (Ellen, 2015).

Music as a non-pharmacological approach not only improved the wellbeing of dementia patients but also lowered the intake of drugs as the Tom Hlavacek, director of the Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association uttered that, “Three years ago, when they started ranking states' use of psychotropic drugs in nursing homes, Wisconsin came in 14th,' he said. 'Now we're fourth in the country. We're way ahead of the curve' (Ellen, 2015).

Music works as a form of expression for Alzheimer’s patients as it triggers old memories and encourages them to communicate effectively. The music therapist who worked with the patients of dementia noticed prominent changes in people as they assert that, “Patients with anxiety and dementia are less agitated and appear calmer. The music transports them to a happier place in their minds.” (Ellen, 2015). Thus, this demonstrates that music has potential benefits on mental health.

Music interventions such as singing, playing an instrument are proven to improve the quality life of patients of dementia, and help sustained connectedness with their loved ones. Thus, it’s a low cost, non-invasive treatment and accessible medium recommended by every caregiver and medical specialists for the Alzheimer’s patients. Studies have discovered that music can recover the cerebral and psychological processes by sensory stimulation of brain and it will decline at a slower pace if music is regularly practiced. In conclusion music stimulates many parts of brain like hippocampus, auditory cortex and broca’s area which are essential understanding of speech and motor skills.

Steve Mathews expresses in his article The Power of Music Therapy that, “music therapy might enable a sufferer to develop new friendships in which the features of direction and interpretation are fully active. The claim is more modest. It is simply that the ability to engage another socially maybe rekindled. Music therapy enables those with dementia to re-enter their social world, to be responsive to others, to participate, to converse, even to engage in some minimal kinds of interpretation.” (Mathews, 2015, p. 3)

Music helped regained their cognitive stability and mental acuity which rekindled their reminiscence while reducing the disruptive behavior and compulsiveness which helped their families as well. Music therapies interventions are increasing worldwide, and researchers are working and promoting more in the health care facilities. Therefore, music can helps lower the decline of brain damage and rekindle the sufferers with their old ones back. The onset and rate of progression of Alzheimer’s disease can be reduced by music interventions, although it’s not completely proven but at some extent it can help and make lives better.

I am Proud to be me

I often reflect on what it is that makes me who I am, and how that makes me different from everyone else around me. Who am I? As far as anyone could tell, this question is seemingly easy and simple to answer. I would say that my name is Eunice Anne C. Viray. I was born to two Filipino parents. I am 18 years old and I am a college freshman. But does that really define all that I am? How can such a simple question demand such a complex answer? Well I like to think that I am a lot of things, but I am also one thing. I am an ordinary human being, made up of quite remarkable qualities and imperfections with an ongoing story of experiences to tell the world.

I grew up in a small, wooden and concrete house with my parents and my two younger sisters. Looking back at it now, we did not have very much. At the time, I was too young to understand what challenges my parents had to face with trying to raise us and keep a roof over our heads. Due to the fact that they had to work a lot, I was raised by other family members, but mostly by my Uncle Jun, whom I have considered as a father figure. I would normally only get to see my parents in the evening and it was usually when I was about to go to bed. Nonetheless, my family raised my sisters and I to become strong, kind, hardworking, and God-fearing individuals. Growing up, I was taught to be a good person despite of anything and to be appreciative of what I have. My uncle is a very generous person. He told me that giving is better than receiving and that I should share my blessings. It was not right to be greedy. Going through rough times should not make you turn into a terrible, selfish person. He would always offer a helping hand or gave whatever he could whenever someone needed it. My Uncle Jun was such a big hearted person who kept a positive outlook on life even when it treated him unfairly. I wanted to be just like him and so I did. He taught me that having little did not mean I had to be selfish when I had a lot. He shaped me into the kind-hearted and generous person I am today. Because of him, I learned how to overcome challenges positively and to help others whenever I could.

I like to think that life faces us with challenges that help shape us to become better versions of ourselves. Life puts us up with these difficult times to test our resiliency, and to help us realize what our true strengths and capabilities are. My resiliency was tested three months before my 14th birthday. With no absolute reason to what may have caused it, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (also known as Juvenile Diabetes). At that point, I thought my life was over. What kid would want to grow up having to manually inject insulin into their body just to eat and to live a longer life? I felt cheated on because I did not know what was coming and how I would have been able to prevent it. My own immune system basically betrayed me, and I had no choice but to accept it and move on. I did not feel like a normal teenager anymore. As time passed, managing diabetes started to become difficult and tiring. I began to lose faith in my religion and felt anger towards God for allowing this to happen to me. Discouraged, I stopped going to church and my mom had noticed, so she asked my godmother to come visit me. Upon her visit, she pulled out her bible and referred to 1 Corinthians 10:13 and said that God would not put me in a situation He knew I would not be able to handle. As simple as it was, that verse stuck to me and eventually brought back my hope and faith. He believes that I can handle this and that I am resilient. So, I started to believe in myself, that I am resilient and I am strong enough to overcome any challenges that life brings me. All it takes is just a little faith to get your strength back.

With every great strength comes a great weakness. I can guarantee no human being is perfect, unless you are like Beyoncé or something. Other than that, we all have our flaws and imperfections and that is okay. It is part of what makes us who we are. Despite being resilient and generous, I am also short-tempered and easily discouraged. I would consider these two traits as my greatest flaw all together because it is something I barely have control of. It is also something I am not proud of being. I could be the most happiest person on the planet and then turn into the most cold-blooded person in just a snap. But of course, it takes a few tries to aggravate me. I do not turn into a complete psychopath in a second, or else I would be in some mental institution or incarcerated. Being somewhat short-tempered also makes me someone who is easily discouraged. It takes a whole lot of courage and effort for me to want to pursue something, but it also takes one setback for me to give up. It probably sounds weird to consider myself as a resilient person but be easily discouraged, I know. I do not know exactly what caused me to be this way, but I guess that is just part of what makes me who I am. This is something I know I need to work on, but it is easier said than done. No one can really change how they are in a second or right when they decide they wanted to. I know that if I really wanted to change this about myself, I would have to work with it and be patient. These things take time.

By now, you have read about my life experiences and some of the major qualities that make up who I am. To sum up and overload my whole life story and how it impacts the person that I have become into one essay seem impossible. This essay reflects on how my experiences and how the people in my life have made me realize who I am as an individual. But this is not all that I am. I am also a sister, a friend, and a perfectly flawed human being. I am the outcome of my greatest strengths and I am more than my imperfections. I am still working on trying to be a better version of myself. As I mentioned in the beginning, I am an ordinary person with quite remarkable qualities and imperfections. I have an ongoing story about my life to tell the world and this story is far from over.

Should Genetically Modified Foods be Banned?

Technological innovation and influx of scientific breakthroughs have led to changes in our ways of lives. In the process, of keeping up with modernism, there have been a preponderance of unnecessary innovation which more often constitute danger to human every day existence. One of such is a noticeable increasing trend in the world population necessitating the implementation of strategies to increase food accessibility. At the same time, there is an increase in the severity of crop diseases and land fragmentation. As a result, farmers are preferring growing the genetically modified plants due to their resistance to pest and their ability to guarantee high yields. There are recent debates on the health effects associated with the consumption of GM foods. Proponents argue that GM foods contain improved characteristics and enhanced nutritional value. The truth is genetically modified foods have profound health effects. Importantly, GM foods lead to the development of allergies, cancers and liver failure.

GM foods have a higher probability of leading to allergic reactions compared to foods produced through conventional methods. In humans, the number one most common side effect of consuming GM foods is allergic reaction (Connealy 67). This allergic reaction happens when a certain protein or allergen present in the GM crop enters the body and stimulates an immune response. The introduction of a new gene to a plant genome leads to the production of a new type of protein capable of producing an allergic reaction (Ladics 587). Though protein based foods are known to cause allergic reactions, genetic engineering triggers their allergic properties.Markedly, genetic engineering may make foods that are known not to contain allergens to have high amounts of the same.

Genetically modified foods have unpredicted amounts of toxins. Scientist reveals evidence of the possibility of accidental and unexpected changes in GM foods. GM foods are found to contain higher than the average levels of toxins in plants. Similarly, genetic modification increases the tendency of plants to obtain toxins from the environment including heavy metals and pesticides (Ladics 590). As a result, genetically modified foods may introduce new types of toxins to the body. The introduction of excess toxins to the human body increases the probability of developing liver complications including inflammation, damage and liver failure. Similarly, toxins have profound impacts on mothers during pregnancy. Toxins lead to the birth of underweight babies and other reproductive failures. Toxicants lead to high mortality rates among children(Landrigan 569). Excess toxins in the body also causes depression, sleep problems,Psoriasis, menstrual disorders, water retention, heartburn, constipation, bloating, joint pain, sinus congestion, canker sores, and premenstrual syndrome.

Limited research on genetically modified foods means that they may have health risks that are unknown. There is a risk of oversimplification of tests conducted on genetically modified foods. It is difficult to develop a comprehensive report on the quality of genetically modified foods. Most of the tests on genetically modified foods are defectively carried out, and the results are erroneous (Ladics 591). For instance, the composition of a genetically produced plant will depend on the agronomic conditions and other discrepancies while the plant is maturing. Indeed, it is possible for a genetically modified food to be declared safe for consumption while it still poses significant health risks.

The genetically modified foods are produced using high amounts of herbicides, and such foods increase health risks including cancers. A high number of genetically modified foods are tolerant to herbicides. Therefore, farmers are likely to use herbicides for weed control compared to mechanical methods. Research has revealed the presence of glyphosate, an active ingredient in Roundup among patients suffering from congenital disabilities, endocrine disorders, cancer and Parkinson’s disease (Landrigan et al. 694). Moreover, Glyphosate makes essential minerals inassimilable. It is, therefore the key cause to most of the ailments that have a linkage with the western diet including obesity, diabetes, heart diseases and gastrointestinal disorders.

Genetically modified foods can lead to increased medical resistance. Genetic engineering allows the production of foods with medical benefits to consumers. The truth is these kinds of foods may also lead to unintended consequences. The introduction of the foods containing medical benefits to the human body triggers bacteria populations to develop adaptations for survival (Ladics 589). Therefore, with time the medicinal qualities in the genetically modified plants become ineffective. Vitally, the bacterium populations develop resistance to conventional medicines leading to increased vulnerability to diseases among the users of genetically modified foods.

Despite the above arguments on the shortcomings of the consumption of GM foods, proponents argue that genetically produced foods have improved nutritional components that are vital to individual health. For instance, genetically modified maize contains added contents including vitamin C (Zhang et al. 5). Similarly, potatoes have added calcium content, and rice has additional elements of iron and zinc. Still, there are arguments that genetically modified foods have reduced contents of undesirable elements. For instance, genetic engineering has contributed to a reduced amount of caffeine coffee beans. Other ideas by the proponents of GM foods include that they look attractive and they contribute to healthy eating habits.

Overall, the cost of the consumption of genetically modified foods outweighs the associated benefits. The proponents of GM foods present unconvincing arguments since individuals can attain the required nutritional requirements by consuming different types of foods. Similarly, public education on nutrition would lead to the willingness by the masses to consume dietary foods such that individuals will not choose foods merely because of their attractiveness. By contrast, the arguments against the consumption of GM foods reveals outstanding issues. Above all, GM foods may lead to irreversible health consequences. Some of which is proclivity to resistance to medication. When organs in the body resist medications meant for healing of ailments, it could spell an ominous sign of fatality which can lead to not only early but also sudden death. This increases human woes in no uncertain measure and consequences. More so, the use of genetically modified foods increases the risk of developing more than one health complication. This is because it leads to a variety of diseases including cancer, liver failure, cardiac arrest, fatigue, and complicated allergies. This is to mention but a few.

Computer Literacy Vs Information Literacy

The cutting edge age is the time of PCs. PCs give the wide scope of training and chief programming. Data innovation has made an incredible progress. Utilization of PCs is generally spread. It is utilized for putting away, investigating, and dispersing data. It's anything but an extraordinary upset. It's anything but a supernatural advancement in pretty much every field. Nowadays, PCs are utilized all over. PCs are broadly utilized in satellites, airplanes, space makes, banks, carrier workplaces, government workplaces, business foundations, reserving a spot in the enormous associations, schools, medical clinics, railroad stations, air terminals, scanning the Internet for data and numerous different companies. With the presentation of PCs, the improvement in India is by all accounts acquiring quick force. It's anything but an indistinguishable piece of improvement.

PC offers the chance for part of inventiveness and degree for advancements. Computerization has given advantages by making our life more reasonable. With the headway of innovation, the interest of PC literates is expanding step by step. PC Literacy is turning into a fundamental expertise nowadays. Managers need their laborers to have fundamental PC abilities as the organizations are turning out to be more subject to PCs.

Data literacy abilities are utilized for scholarly purposes, for example, research papers and gathering introductions. They are utilized at work—the capacity to discover, assess, use and offer data is a fundamental ability. They are likewise utilized in purchaser choices, like which vehicle or vacuum cleaner to buy, are basic. To wrap things up, they are utilized by educated residents in taking part completely in a popularity based society through casting a ballot (Kenney, 2007).

Data literacy is possibly the establishment for learning in contemporary climate of persistent innovative change. As data and correspondence advances grow quickly, and the data climate turns out to be progressively perplexing, instructors are perceiving the requirement for… show more substance…

They realize where to search for the response to both the normal regular data needs and for the response to the seriously confusing, less-effectively tended to, issues of life. They are comfortable with where to look as well as with the apparatuses and cycles needed to discover those answers. Zabel (2007) calls attention to that endeavors to prepare understudies to be capable at achieving data through an assortment of systems should be "incorporated, applicable, continuous, cooperative, and applied" on the off chance that they are to be fruitful in setting up those understudies for accomplishment in their scholarly and expert professions (Zabel ,2007).

PCs are additionally supplanting pens and papers as well. Different PC literacy programs are additionally run in various spaces of the country. PC preparing is turning into a sort of neccessity. In large numbers of the spots the PC fundamentals incorporate the learning of Computer Microsoft word-preparing, bookkeeping pages, information bases, organizing and the web. Nowadays, internet learning is additionally given. So,in the present current age, computerization is acquiring force and PC literacy is a decent choice to get a handle on a great job in various associations.

These particular abilities required, will consistently proceed to create and improve for the duration of once life. Moreover, the degree of data literacy creates as individuals keep on learning. The two understudies and experts profit with data literacy abilities. The particular abilities engage them through various segments; including asset literacy, social primary, arising innovation, just as distributing literacy.

As of late, the economy has developed dependent on capital and work. Thus, experts require these abilities to decipher data on administration. In this world, experts and understudies ought to have explicit abilities separated from witting, number juggling and perusing. With these data literacy abilities, experts become more different, worldwide, and decentralized. Definitively, these abilities ought to be instructed in the general setting measure.

Historical Criticism of Carnegie and his Empire

Andrew Carnegie is a legend in industry. He was He was brought into the world in Scotland in 1835. He came to America and began his functioning profession in a cotton plant as a bobbin kid. He was a diligent employee, and immediately was advanced through the positions of Western Union and the Pennsylvania Railroad Company. In 1865, he quit and went into business, the well known and famous Carnegie Steel Company. His organization was answerable for beginning the steel business in Pittsburgh, and he and his organization left their engraving on industry and large business for quite a long time to come.

Carnegie has been displayed as a ferocious financial specialist and his organization as a savage restraining infrastructure in the set of experiences books, yet he was likewise a giver who gave more than $350 million during his lifetime. He established and upheld numerous libraries that are as yet utilized today. He needed to help the individuals who had fallen upon difficult situations and setback without giving them presents, since "you can't push anybody up a stepping stool except if he will move up a bit.

However he deliberately put contenders bankrupt, he additionally helped schools and fabricated libraries for factory towns to assist with peopling lift themselves out of neediness. "He set up in the Scottish Universities a trust of $10,000,000 for helping young men of slim pay to profit themselves of University preparing, or, to cite his own words, "by delivering participation at these colleges and the satisfaction in their benefits more accessible to the meriting and qualified young people of that country to whom the installment of charges may go about as a boundary to the happiness regarding these benefits." (Lynch 26) He assisted networks with aiding one another, and is contrasted by numerous individuals with the community worker and author of the body house, Jane Adams.

Notwithstanding the entirety of his great, there are sure things that Andrew Carnegie did that are unpardonable. The functioning conditions in his processing plants were abominable. Likewise, his installment framework was bigoted and out of line. "By 1907, 80 percent of Carnegie's steelworkers were Eastern Europeans. Carnegie's local conceived whites got $22 each week. His Irish and Scots got $16 each week. Slavs, Russians, and Italians got $12 each week." (endgame.org) He paid local conceived Americans more than anybody. Nonetheless, the local conceived Americans were presumably more talented and preferable prepared over the outsider specialists were. Be that as it may, there is no clarification to why he paid Slavs, Russians, and Italians not exactly the Irish and the Scots, other than unadulterated bias and inclination towards his nation of origin.

In business, he founded rehearses that are still set up today (however some of them are presently exceptionally illicit). In contrast to the customary way of thinking, he accepted that you "put your eggs in a single container. Furthermore, watch it develop. That is the best approach to bring in cash."
