Professional Soldier

Established January 13, 1998 the seven Army Values were placed to described and put into to perspective just what being a soldier is all about. They are the morals of the entire United States Army and to go against them is like braking the law. The Army values is what separates us men and woman from the rest of the world, we stick out like a sore thumb. Some people do not recognize the significance the value of the meaning of these words. “Words like loyalty, duty, respect, service, honor, integrity, and courage are thrown around often these days, but military service actually gives these words meaning.” Rose, J. (2017, December 21). The Army Values has history based on a strong foundation, and building leadership.

The history behind the Army Values has been served for over two centuries. Many soldiers have been living by these morals in and out of the Army. Whether they’re active duty, wearing the uniform 365 days a year. Reserve or National Guard and only wear the uniform two days a month and two weeks in the summer, they are all still showing the respect to those who have served before them living up to those morals. When Soldiers see their leadership they follow their lead, so when those morals aren’t being followed the younger will follow what they see leading back to followership. “The Army has always had values, dating back to Baron von Steuben at Valley Forge in 1778 when he established those attributes and traits that an NCO should have.” The Army Values were placed as standards for soldiers to live by mentally, physically, and actively and they will continue to be in play for many more centuries to come.

A strong foundation is what the Army is, a band of brothers and sisters coming together for one purpose. Loyalty can be described as commitment to the Constitution, the Army, your unit, and other soldiers. Illustrations of loyalty can include having your battle buddy’s “six”. Selfless service and trust run hand in hand being in the battlefield and looking to your right and left, knowing there is someone there who is putting the welfare of the country, the Army, and their subordinates before themselves. Giving your peers that foundation to build off of gives a reinforcement of reassurance. George Eliot once said “The reward of one duty is the power to fulfill another.” When you rose your right hand you made it your duty to protect and serve, meaning fulfilling your obligations and never taking shortcuts. “Any foundation you build, if trust is part of that foundation, whatever you're building, whatever you're creating is gonna have a rock-solid foundation.” Steve Tisch

Facing physical or moral danger, fear, or adversity with courage is what many would call personal courage. The Army’s leadership shows that intention every day when they take those risk and stand on the front line. Making the split second decisions on every mission take save a soldier’s life. Leadership following the 7 army values is being built into a resilient force that will be respected. On the topic of respected leadership, Martin Luther King Jr. for example the way he presented himself, the way he spoke, and the way he treated others the way he wanted to be treated was the perfect example of respected leadership. As a leader view all your subordinates as human beings, be that leader that they can trust.

Being in the United States Army we are taught to live by these values every day, always doing what is legally and morally right showing integrity and honor. As a leader you are set to certain standards and you expect your subordinates to follow. There are times you may not always be the best at what you do but you can always do right, and on all occasions hold yourself to higher standards because you never know at what time who may have their eyes on you for the good or the bad. Even when transitioning out of the Army, take these values with you because they will not only make you that great leader that you had become, but also a better business man or woman. “And even though I’ve been out of the military for many years now, I still cling tightly to military values that taught me how to be a man. I would even argue that, over time, these same values helped me become a better businessman and a stronger entrepreneur.” Rose, J. (2017, December 21).The history, foundation, and leadership are grounded off the Army Values. “The Army values are leadership; leadership is Army values.” The Army Values. (2017, February 15).

Loss of Innocence: ‘Lord of the Flies’

Throughout history, children are often used in literature and movies to represent innocence, but what happens when that innocence is lost? William Golding adequately writes about this topic in the book, Lord of the Flies. This piece is about a group of English schoolboys whose plane gets shot down while they are fleeing from a war. They land on a deserted island and must cooperate to survive; unfortunately, things turn for the worst when the young students turn against each other. Golding’s inspiration for this tale about human nature came from his days as an officer of the Royal Navy. He says, “World War II was the turning point for me. I began to see what people were capable of doing.” (Personality Spotlight;NEWLN:William). Golding was born on the nineteenth of September, in 1911, and lived until the nineteenth of June, 1993. He was a Nobel-Prize winning novelist and was knighted in 1988 (United Press International). His most famous writings were about exploring and understanding humanity. However, Golding’s most known book is Lord of the Flies, which deeply dives into how people, even children, would react in a place with no regulations. In this novel, a group of children are struggling to survive and describing the deprivation of purity. The loss of innocence in Lord of the Flies is evidently shown by the children, their actions, and the island’s imagery.

The idea of a person becoming impure is exemplified through the experiences the children face while deserted on the island. For instance, the British boys are those of a private school; so, they must be clean and proper. However, by the end of the series, they have outgrown hair in front of their eyes, are covered in dirt, and wear scraggly clothes. Their outgrown hair illustrates the descent they are taking into barbaric ways; they are becoming “blinded.” Subsequently, this proves that even the most refined people can break down into their primal instincts. In the beginning chapters, reasonably, the kids decide they need to hunt for food and eventually, they hunt other kids (Gerson). This is another example of the start of savagery, for there was plenty of fruit on the island to sustain the children. It shows that when innocence is lost, people are capable of doing things they wouldn’t even consider originally. In this case, the main characters are children that are only held back by the eyes of adults. When the adults are no longer in the picture, the system of their old life vanishes, and they become primal. After the groups are split, the male children murder for the first time because they are afraid; then, they murder again because it has become second nature to them (Bedell).

Furthermore, a heartbreaking scene happens at the end of Lord of the Flies; in which, a marine officer encounters Ralph at his most desperate state. Finally, realizing the evil that humankind’s heart possesses; Ralph loses his innocence (Cott). This presents the idea that when exposed to the evil and mercilessness that humans are capable of, it will forever change a person, let alone a child. On the other hand, Golding defines this as a part of growing up. He characterizes Ralph when he “…wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart, and the fall through the air of the true, wise friend called Piggy,” which furthers the point that purity is lost when opened to the cruel truth of reality (Bedell).

Later in the story, Jack and his followers wear clay-paint masks on themselves, which symbolizes them not wanting to be associated with their actions (Golding). The “masks” are both used literally and figuratively, for the boys start to display evil behavior; they are capable of doing so because they choose to not identify with their actions, and it allows them to indulge in their “animalistic” urges. The boys display inhumanity, which gives a glimpse of the idea that every human, no matter what, has what it takes to accomplish heinous deeds in order to gain power, knowledge, and anything else he or she desires. The fall of the children’s civilization is caused by human fallibility when it comes to giving someone the reigns and the jealousy that the followers can’t help but develop (Gerson). Through the whole of the book, there are many examples of how human nature can be the source of one’s own mistake; hence, losing innocence in the process.

A person develops their personality as they grow up. They also learn the general gist of what’s right and what’s wrong, according to their laws. Since the boys in Lord of the Flies range from about six years old to almost adolescence, they didn’t have a large amount of time to establish a moral compass. For example, Roger, the boy who represents evil, grew up learning that he shouldn’t do wrong because he would be punished. Now, on the island, there are no consequences. “Roger’s arm was conditioned by a civilization that knew nothing of him and was in ruins,” this statement refers to the fact that Roger is starting to realize he can do what he wants, which he will do evil (Golding). Golding states that the “theme of the book is an attempt to trace the defect of society back to the defect of human nature.” (Mazie). However, Simon, the boy who represents good, is a reserved boy who is looked to as a saint. For example, he reaches for and gives fruit to the “littleuns” when he enters the forest. In addition, when Jack hits Piggy and knocks him down, Simon rushes to his aid. “Passions beat about Simon on the mountain-top with awful wings,” this gives another Christ-like imagery to Simon and how he is the only one who truly understands what’s happening on the island.

Not only does personality play a factor in your moral compass, so does your relationships. For example, Piggy is such an easy target for Jack because Piggy doesn’t fight back. This will encourage Jack, even more so, to bully Piggy. However, Jack doesn’t physically try to mess with Ralph in the beginning of Lord of the Flies, because Ralph was seen as strong and was the proclaimed leader. How does humankind continue to construct the obligations of now and wish of tomorrow if they are intelligent, yet prone to make mistakes? Man is constantly reminded that any civilization needs a constructive government (Mazie). Another instance is where Jack breaks away from the original group and starts his own. With many of the other boys following, he became more confident as people were supporting him. If no one came to his “party,” then he wouldn’t be able to do all the damage he has done towards the end of the novel. On the other hand, Samneric, even though they were surrounded by evil, continued to try and help Ralph when they were captured (Golding). This proves that, sometimes, you will instinctually feel to do the right thing.

One’s situation is just as important as his/her relationship. Of course, all the boys are stuck on an island in the middle of an ocean, with no means of communication. The situation here is that they need to be rescued and that there are no adults around. Ralph automatically becomes leader because he holds the conch, and gives off the demeanor of someone in charge. Ralph’s first course of action is to start a signal fire, which is one of many orders that he gives to try and better the situation. Nowhere in the novel does he abuse his power, he is naturally good. The best example is where Ralph meets the Lord of the Flies. Even though he doesn’t quite understand the Beast, he becomes angry at it because it felt wrong. Ralph then knocks it over and breaks it into two (Golding). He perfectly demonstrates a person’s natural ability to be good and abolish evil. On the other hand, Jack is the opposite. He constantly belittles other boys and has an unbelievable blood lust. He, also, constantly tries to pry power from Ralph, given that Ralph gave him absolute power over the choir, which is now the hunters. Jack uses everyone’s fear to his advantage and says that he can “protect” them. His struggle to gain power ends up in the death of Simon and Piggy. Jack is proof that a person will do evil just to put himself at a higher advantage. Golding delves deeper into this theme when he describes the Beast provoking Simon by saying, “Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill! You knew, didn’t you? I’m part of you? Close, close, close!” (Gerson). This insinuates that “beasts’ are inside all humans, and that is the source of the cruelty in mankind’s heart.

Nursing: Clara Barton

Nursing Theory

The nursing theorist I most closely relate to is Clara Barton. Clara Barton was the founder of The American Red Cross in the United States. She began her career as a school teacher and moved on to become a clerk in the United States patent office. Her pursuit to help wounded soldiers through volunteerism started with the Civil War. Clara was determined to bring much needed medical supplies to the wounded and food for those that were hungry. Later she would lead one of the most respected volunteer agencies in the U.S., the American Red Cross.

I first learned of Clara Barton in my nursing theory course in nursing school. I have always been one to want to help others not for financial gain or status but for the sense of accomplishment in helping. In my current clinical practice I take care of patients in the Burn ICU. After patients are discharged I continue to support them through a variety of ways. I am part of the peer support group, I participate in outreach programs in the community providing burn prevention and I also teach burn education to first responders, healthcare providers and soldiers.

Clara Barton has influenced my beliefs and values by inspiring me to continue volunteer work within my community. My devotion to these individuals resonates what Clara did for her country.

Excellent Nursing Practice

Clara’s work consisted of tirelessly ensuring that soldiers received the care and supplies they needed to survive. Nurse’s in todays society strive to give the highest quality care based on individual patient needs. We ensure basic needs are provided as well as emotional support not only to the patient but families as well. Dedication, devotion, long hours, and community outreach echoes Clara’s dedication to the fallen soldiers.

As a leader, Clara Barton paved the way for future nurses to start innovative programs to continue to support patients after being discharged from the hospital. In my institution we aim to make community outreach and prevention at the forefront of our mission. Formal and informal leaders alike are continually launching new programs through volunteerism to support the community.

Professional Practice Nursing Theory

As aforementioned, the theory of Clara Barton providing support as a volunteer has greatly impacted my professional practice. I have taken the principles and carried them forward through my leadership. Providing information and resources to staff to continue patient care not at the bedside but rather in the community. Inspiring others to want to serve those in need and provide services free of charge. As a nurse I feel I have an ethical duty to assure needs are met to all populations lacking resources, funding and supplies that are needed to endure.

Importance of Sports at School

Imagine walking into a room full of kids who can play baseball, basketball, softball, and some may even be track stars. This may even be a class, or a gym class. Everybody is told to learn how to do basketball to get a grade. Several kids get upset, some do not mind, and a few are excited. Due to lack of exercise and poor diet in students, obesity has become an issue in almost every state. If at a young age kids do the sports that they enjoy at school, they have more reasons to be active and more into it as they age. After school sports should be a part of the school curriculum; it would drive students to try new things, help them pursue in their careers as they age, and there would be much more time for them to do other things.

To begin, if sports were classes, students would be driven to consider new things and find the sports that they love. So many different sports happen throughout the school year that could happen as a class. Steven Dowshen says, “So many choices can seem overwhelming, but getting involved in new activities with new people is a fun way to challenge yourself.”(Teenshealth) Joining new activities like sports is a beneficial way to use time at school, and learn the benefits of goal-setting. When students are being challenged and finding worth in what they can achieve, that typically motivates them to do more. Even trying a new sport for just one part of the semester would be an efficient way for students to find their strengths and weaknesses. Doing so is a good way to prepare them for their future and the people they will be working with. Sports should be a class, because there will then be more opportunities for kids. Furthermore, the students inclined to play the sport will learn how they can help themselves in situations of figuring the difference between right and wrong. This affects how they will work with others when they are older. As Tyson Hartnett once said, “The bonds from sports are so deep that they never go away. I think the reason for this is that you are basically going into battle with someone, and you can learn a lot about somebody from how they act in a game. ” (Huffpost) Being in sports helps leave an impression on the people students are competing with or against. This means that then, it is easier to learn how to react to certain situations whether they are good or bad. For example, if the student is running against another and they accidentally trip them, it is their decision to either apologize or ignore it. This is great ethical practice before becoming an adult, where a good attitude is important to have. If sports were a class, then this would help students as they pursue in a career as they age.

In addition, it is emotionally and physically straining on the students after a long day of school work to be doing exercise. This decreases their ability to play well. Steve Ettinger said, “It’s far too common for to kids get ‘poisoned’ by a bad after school sports experience”(Howtolearn.com). At the time of the day that after school sports are usually held, is when kids should be working on homework at home and relaxing. If sports were to be held during the school day, then there would be much more after school time for work and there would be much more time for doing other things. Sports should be a part of the curriculum. Kids would be much more motivated across the world to be more physically active. Every single day, some children across America are taking some form of physical education or after school sport that brings more negative effects than positive into their lives. Bringing sports into students’ school lives would drive students to try new things, help them pursue in their careers as they age, and there would be much more time for them to do other things.

Demerits of Technology and Internet

Technology is rapidly changing and along with it, so are people. We have made a great change in the way we view technology. It can be used as a resource for just about anything you want to know or buy. But it can also be addictive in the way it can captivate someone’s whole life through social media, online shopping, and much more. I believe that the internet and technology are addictive and we should be more wary of the effects of the overexposure to these things.

Addiction is a dependency to a substance or activity, like smoking, using drugs, or even browsing your social media. Smartphones seem to be the most common thing for people to become addicted to. They are small, convenient, and it is easy to lose track of time while using them. According to Alter, the average hours of daily smartphone screen-time is three hours . Alter states, “They were spending an average of a quarter of their waking lives on their phones-more than any other daily activity, except sleeping.” That’s a lot of time to spend on your phone. According to Abramovitz, “Studies find that over half of American teenagers report checking their cell phones all the time, 30 percent check their social networks all the time, and 75 percent check text messages at least once every hour.” Internet addiction clearly has a huge impact on adolescence, and can become tiring. As stated by Small and Vorgan, “These addicts routinely experience apathy, depression, anxiety, restlessness, fatigue, irritability, and clouded thinking.” But perhaps worst of all, internet addiction consumes one of the most important things you have in life; your time. According to Watkins, early case studies show that heavy online users spend forty hours a week online like it’s a full time job.

Smartphones and are not the only issue however, video games are just as time consuming.

Video games gives players an immense landscape of media to explore. The MMORPG (Massively-Multiplayer-Online-Role-Playing-Games) genre of video games can be extremely addicting. World of Warcraft is one of the most addicting games ever. There is an organization that houses people in facilities to provide treatment with such issues of being addicted to video games, such as World of Warcraft, called reSTART. They give the help that youth and adults need to manage their addiction. The computer gaming community can be very involved. People grow attachments to their fellow players and form groups of friends. They enjoy the camaraderie. According to Small and Vorgan, “Gamers report additional enjoyment when the game or online interaction provides a virtual social network.” In addition, the video game community even happens to talk about addiction quite a bit. Some players even brag about how long they have stayed online for one session. Watkins states “In one national survey, 50 percent of respondents, when asked a direct yes or no question, considered themselves addicted to an MMORPG.”  This shows how much influence is on the minds of these gamers that they can acknowledge that they are addicted, but can’t stop playing. Video game addiction is a real issue, and it has a lot to do with how dopamine is produced in the brain when the gamers boot up their games and log into their communities. According to Small and Vorgan, “During a game, dopamine is released into the player’s brain, causing intense pleasure and a sensation of being in control.”  The video game community is rapidly growing, and with it, more addicts to the product.

Internet addiction can be harmful to one’s health as well. On average, you should get about 8 hours of sleep every night. One of the most harmful effect of internet addiction can be the loss of that sleep. According to Alter, sleep deprivation effects two thirds of all adults, and can cause a slew of different issues ranging from mood changes to obesity, and even certain cancers. Sleep deprivation can be caused by staring at the bright blue light of your cell phone or TV just before you go to sleep. Alter states that, “95 percent of us are inducing jet lag at night by telling our bodies that the day is beginning just before we go to bed.”  So by watching that TV show before bed, or compulsively checking your social media, you halt the production of melatonin in your brain which helps you sleep. This is just one of the few effects of technology and internet addiction however. According to Watkins, “Some of the problems researchers associated with excessive Internet use include failure to manage time, a loss of sleep, skipped meals, social isolation, and poor performance at school or work.” These are all attributes of addictions to other substances as well, such as alcohol. In addition, staring at a computer screen can cause lots of discomfort. According to Small and Vorgan, “Too much time at a computer display terminal can lead to muscle strain, eye discomfort, and headaches.”

Digital media largely affects the social skills of those who are overexposed to it on a daily basis.

It can make it harder to connect with people face-to-face. Although face-to-face relationships are more involved and create more of a bond, it can be difficult to form these if your world in one that’s addicted to the virtual. It can even be harder for you to pick up on nonverbal communication, such as body language. According to Small and Vorgan, “Spending hours in front of the computer can anthropy the brain’s neural circuitry that controls recognition and interpretation of nonverbal communication.”  These things are very important in creating new relationships. Even though all these things are prevalent in the United States and other Asian countries, internet addiction is not formally recognized by psychiatric professionals. But possibly one day, with further studies we will figure out why people are seemingly glued to their devices.

The Job i Like to do

Ideally, when I graduate college I would like to work at a graphic design company.  However, there will be lots of factors to consider before I decide where I want to start my career.  One important thing to consider is my work schedule.  I would prefer a flexible work schedule and a company that embraces flextime.  This would mean there would obviously still be a weekly requirement for minimum hours worked, but the hours would be able to be molded around my schedule.  While I won't have to worry about a family for a while, it will eventually be nice to be able to alter my work schedule to best fit the needs of my spouse and even possibly the busy schedule and workload of raising children.  The idea of flexible hours would also be beneficial, as extra hours could be worked during the week to allow for a three-day weekend.

In the event I do have children, I would greatly appreciate paid parental leave and some form of maternity leave.  While it is not all that common, I would obviously prefer paid (or at least partially paid) maternity leave.  It is important to be able to take care of and bond with your infant in its first weeks of life.  Constantly stressing about missing work in order to spend said quality time is not beneficial to anyone involved.  As this child grows older, it is important to have some paid days off.  Whether these days are used to take a child to a doctor's appointment, attend a school play, take yourself to a doctors appointment, or even go on vacation it is important to have the flexibility to fulfill our needs and wants.  I like the idea of working somewhere that gives me a certain amount of paid days off, with no questions asked.

In terms of payment, this type of job would be generating a salary rather than wages.  A salary means that I would be paid for completing the requirements of my job description, no matter how many extra hours it takes.  Ideally, I would have a competitive salary and compensation package including benefits.  A competitive salary would mean that my salary at this particular business would be very similar, or even better compared to other companies in the graphic design business.  A compensation package including benefits would be anything that was not money that would influence someone to stay at or initially choose a company.  As mentioned before, paid days off would be an example of another type of benefit.  Others include legally required benefits such as Social Security and Medicare.  More benefits include insurance and retirement plans.  There are many things that are considered benefits and therefore many combinations for benefits packages.  My ideal job would not only include the required benefits, but also a fair amount of paid vacation days, and good insurance and retirement plans.

Another important aspect of my ideal job would be the assurance that I was working in an environment that was fair to all of its employees.  As mentioned in the prompt, this would fall under the jurisdiction of employees in the Human Resources department.  I think it is important to have a qualified team of employees in Human Resources to ensure that the work of the companies employees was fully compensated.  As an employee, I would feel unappreciated if I was, for example, paid less than an employee I knew slacked off in the office.  On the flip side, I would feel bad if I was given more benefits or compensation then someone I knew was putting in tons of work outside the office and ultimately working harder than me.  It is also incredibly important that HR be objective in its management of the companies personal relations.  For example, in the case of an office dispute between co-workers it would be incredibly unfair and a clear example of a lack of objectivity, if an HR rep ruled in the favor of their close office friend who was obviously in the wrong.  It is important that things are looked at objectively, and free of personal opinion in order to ensure equity for every employee in the workplace.

A combination of all of these aspects would be my ideal after college job.  As I am well aware I will most likely not receive everything I wish for, it is beneficial to at least have an idea of what I am looking for in a job, however idealistic it may be.

How i See myself in the Future

Pondering the future can be damaging however we can't live without center. We generally assess our past accomplishment and extrapolate them into the future world. Absolutely, contemplating what's to come is fruitless and deficient with different opposing inquiries. Despite the fact that there are different difficulties consistently, surely we can't stop to think and plan on our future advancement. Neglecting to design straightforwardly makes an interpretation of to intending to come up short. Where do I see myself in ten years, is an average and important inquiry for any youngsters who are yearning for a nice life. Despite the fact that it was hard to consider the future, notwithstanding, living with the expectation that tomorrow will be better today is basic. Living in fantasy land consistently succeeds throughout everyday life. Ten years can without much of a stretch move quicker when there are no coordinated designs for the period. Be that as it may, that very many years can be difficult for occupied personalities. Talking about the present is a lot simpler on the grounds that there are prepared realities and proof to back the cases. In any case, the much we can do with a long time from today is laying out objectives and expecting the result. A long time from now, I would have graduated and consummated my resume to land me to my ideal vocation.

A long time from this present time is satisfactorily sufficient opportunity to empower me to understand my fantasy home. I have wanted to set up my palatial private home, with an excellent terrace. Having taken in the worth of trees in human wellbeing, I would cautiously enhance my home with pleasant smelling trees and blossoms. In the interim, a little vegetable nursery would not miss inside the compound. Organic products trees like mangoes, oranges, and avocados would frame a pleasant cottage in the compound to give shade to my family. The shade will be inadequate without the commitment of birds singing their noisy sweet tunes right farthest finish of the trees. My pup will be there holding back to gather any fallen organic products from the trees and hand them over to my nursery kid. I would not spare a moment to go through my end of the week under these regular shade with my family. Despite the fact that bringing up my children will be longer than ten years. Be that as it may, I am hopeful about my first conceived praising her third day towards the finish of my 10th year dream. I ideally fantasy about giving unfaltering adoration, instructive prerequisites, and security to them.

My vision in a long time from today will be finished with getting a respectable work. I have not tried to begin my firm. In spite of the fact that my monetary commitment would be met through my compensation, I generally regard and worth how our administration compensates and like experts. In particular, I essentially need to complete my course and get conceded into the business framework as a star. Working ten hours in a day is frequently my fantasy. It concurs with my ten-year dream. The ends of the week will be given for restrictive family holding and openness. I accept, in ten years, my pressure of fulfilling various needs will have decreased fundamentally. I will have more opportunity to mingle and go out with my loved ones. I won't lament investing quite a bit of my energy watching different TV channels and taking rests. Genuinely, I will repay myself for having endeavored to meet my cravings and dreams. I'm in this manner submitted today to understand the better result of my ten-year dream. I'm time cognizant now and attempting to go through every day admirably to better outcomes. Presently I rely upon my folks for upkeep in school. Commit very nearly sixteen hours every day to learn and present my tasks. I'm driven by assurance and energy for dream.

Rosa Parks History

On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks boarded a transport in Montgomery, Alabama. Rather than going to the rear of the transport, which was assigned for African Americans, she sat toward the front. At the point when the transport began to top off with white travelers, the transport driver requested that Parks move. She denied. Her obstruction set under way one of the biggest social developments ever, the Montgomery Bus Boycott.Rosa Louise McCauley was brought into the world on February fourth, 1913 in Tuskegee, Alabama. As a youngster, she went to a modern school for young ladies and later selected at Alabama State Teachers College for Negroes (present-day Alabama State University). What are you Passionate about

At the point when I am inquired as to why I am enthusiastic about farming I regularly think that its hard to clarify. Horticulture has been a critical piece of my life as I experienced childhood with a blended homestead activity. My encounters on the ranch are significant on the grounds that I had the chance to find what horticulture was truly about firsthand. I had the chance to find out about agribusiness from the main individuals in my day to day existence, my family. I accept that my home roots assume a significant part in my enthusiasm to turn out to be more included in the farming business.

Experiencing childhood with a homestead where I could work close by my family has implied a great deal to me. The exercises learned and the recollections we shared as a family are precious. I desire to continue to cultivate with my family once I finish my Animal Science certification in college. My more established sister is right now dealing with her Harvest Science certification and our expectation is to cultivate together later on. She will have the information we need to seed and gather our harvests and I will actually want to deal with the animals. Luckily, both our guardians have blended homestead activities so we can look for direction from them on a case by case basis. I think my folks have effectively offered me the best guidance at any point to pick a profession that I love so I won't ever need to work a day in my life. I really accept that in the event that I pursue my fantasy to claim and work a homestead with my sister than I will be all the more then, at that point content.

I love all parts of a blended ranch activity. Each period of the year I appreciate taking an interest in cultivating exercises, for example, cultivating, gather, calving and winter taking care of. I take a specific interest in the domesticated animals industry since I appreciate the joy of working with creatures. Nonetheless, I realize that I will likewise must be associated with the harvest business as delivering grains will be critical to our future group's taking care of program.

Another significant explanation I am fascinated by horticulture is on the grounds that I comprehend the significant job it plays in our reality. Without horticulture we would not have the option to take care of our congesting populace. The farming industry is continually adjusting and growing new innovation and science to keep up with our populaces' requirements. I understand that this advancement will additionally extend the fate of farming. Saskatchewan is one of the Prairie Provinces that go about as the "bread bushel" for the world by creating grains. Different areas and nations that rely upon our horticultural achievement isn't as it were restricted to the harvests. The domesticated animals industry adds to our market also. Right now the animals industry is blasting and with the examination and innovation to keep up with group wellbeing it ought to stay on favorable terms in future years.

The profession openings made in the farming business are perpetual. It simply feels great to be essential for farming at present. I realize that after I finish my certificate I ought not experience numerous hindrances for my profession. What is shockingly better is that I can turn into a business person who runs her own ranch activity. I'm eager to assume the obligations of working a blended ranch in with my sister. For as far back as I can recall I have needed to turn into a genuine rancher not simply a rancher's little girl. My home roots, love for cultivating exercises and pioneering enthusiasm fuel my fantasy in agribusiness. There is no doubt as far as I can say that I will seek after a lifelong some place inside the horticulture ventures' limits.

Describe your Family Background

Where would it be advisable for me to begin? My parents folks Saban and Hasema were both brought into the world in Tirana, Albania. They brought up four youngsters all through their marriage Ahmet, Tezima, Esef, and Sefko, sadly Hasema additionally had five actually conceived kids. They burned through the majority of their coexistences in Jajce from the ages they got hitched in (Saban 22, Hasema 18) up until their demises (Saban 1999, Hasema 2004). For the duration of their lives they were consistently a lower working class family, in Albania the abundance class was unique in relation to the United States. Individuals that were viewed as working class were as yet known to abandon bread for a couple of days; However, both Saban and Hasema kept their confidence in Islam solid and authorized that their kids be the same way. In a manner my convictions were given to me by my grandparents, yet this was not by any means the only thing that was given to me my by my grandparents. In 1973 Saban lawfully changed his family name from Lizalo(meaning candy in Bosnian) to Lizalovic. Saban and Hasema had little training, neither completed secondary school; yet they made a point to give their kids openings that they were not granted, and in connection that hugely affected the manner in which I ended up. With the restricted training Saban had, he had to work in development consistently, while Hasema had to keep up with the house and keep the yields alive. Their lives were given to bettering their kids and making closes meat for their family, it transformed my father into the individual he is today and has helped shape me with a portion of the accounts I was told, If it wasn't for my grandparents Saban and Hasema I would be a "candy".

My mom's folks had a more rich life than my dad's folks. Latif and Fatima all through a large portion of their daily routine were privileged residents experiencing in Vinac, Albania. They brought in nice cash from Latif's work as a development specialist, as he would head out to different nations that payed him as much as possible for his administrations including Iraq, Croatia, and Iran. Hasema likewise had a task to carry out from a financial perspective, she would frequently sell crops that she became like potatoes, tomatoes, apples, and watermelons. They buckled down, however not just for themselves, they had a major family at a somewhat youthful age, getting hitched at the periods of 21(Latif) and 18(Fatima) they immediately had their first youngster Munira following a time of marriage. Then, at that point two years after the fact they had another girl named Semira, and in the long run Nermina. Latif and Hasema knew the upsides of Islam and school, so they ensured there girls were incredible in both religion and tutoring. These exercises were given to me and is the reason I am a particularly energetic understudy just as a strict eyewitness.

My folks Esef and Munira Lizalovic are the primary explanation I have become who I am today, and it is basically because of the awful experience they went through to get me to where I am today. Esef and Munira Lizalovic got hitched at a youthful age, like their folks my dad was 21 and my mom was 18. During their first year of marriage they had a girl named Jasmina. Esef and Munira both had completed secondary school and Esef assumed on the liability of accommodating the family while Munira kept up with the house and dealt with her little girl. It's anything but a tranquil time until my dad was drafted into the Balkan wars. Three years they moved city to city as Bosnia was falling , and for quite a while they would know about a companion or neighbor who was killed. It's anything but a period of neediness and gloom as my folks attempted to keep up with their family and hold Jasmina back from starving because of the absence of food. Following three years of barbarous conflict, my dad removed his family and escaped a long way from the entirety of the sadness and disdain.

His objective was to go to the country where gold blocks were on the asphalt of the side walk, Germany. As he went through the nation of Croatia he was stopped at the line of Slovenia, because of him not having any papers he was condemned to a day in prison alongside his significant other and little girl, after the day they were delivered and made a big difference for their excursion. Strolling by foot with his family, he figured out how to get to Austria where they were halted at the line once more, yet this time it was more serious. The Austrians kidnapped my folks and were prepared to put them on a plane straightforwardly to Serbia where they would be killed quickly; in any case, a holy messenger among men came and elected to take them to his home where he shrouded them for half a month. He took care of them and dressed them while they were visitors at his home, then, at that point when it was the ideal opportunity for them to leave he was adequately thoughtful to drive them to Italy. If not for that man I would not be composing this article today. After they showed up in Italy Esef and Munira chose to get comfortable and rest for a couple of months, my dad immediately got a new line of work, and they were at long last ready to eat something adjacent to beans and bread. Following three months of living in Italy they chose to return to their fundamental objective, which was getting to the place where there is gold, Germany. Following a couple of long stretches of strolling they at last made it to Germany, like Slovenia they were shipped off prison several days where they did a careful personal investigation to ensure they were not psychological militants.

After everything was cleared they were permitted to go inside the country. Once inside there were no goldbricks as an afterthought walk, no chocolate streams, no candy structures. Germany was not the spot portrayed, but rather it was superior to they might have expected. Being displaced people from Bosnia, the public authority of Germany gave my family free lodging and food. Life had at last settled down and they could start to appreciate life again, a year after they sunk into Germany I was conceived, then, at that point three years after the fact after everything had quieted down in the balkans Germany concluded that my family not, at this point required monetary assistance and chose to project me and my family back into the passing pit that was currently known as Bosnia and Herzegovina. Fortunately through a progression of administrative work, we were conceded admittance to the United Sates of America. Tragically the city they sent us to was Atlanta, Georgia. It was in Atlanta that we confronted incredible trouble as they projected us into the ghettos. long evenings of steady shots and medication bargains lead to a discouraging and startling a half year for my family. At long last after those a half year we figured out how to get sufficient cash to make a trip to Richmond, Virginia where we rejoined with my uncle Ahmet Lizalovic. After sixteen years my family have become a monetarily steady family with little dread of tomorrow, we are protected and we are joined together. Through the deterrents my folks confronted and the person they displayed through a portion of the troublesome occasions, they have been the best effect in my life and are significantly answerable for who I am today,

Why is it Important to Understand how the Constitution Guarded against Tyranny

Oppression is displayed from multiple points of view. In 1787 our initial architects met in Philadelphia to talk about an issue, The Articles of Confederation were not working. So after a long discussion, they settled on a choice, to toss out the old and in with the new. Which means, to dump the Articles of Confederation and make the Constitution. How might another piece of paper guard against oppression? Indeed, the Constitution will begin another time of government. Comprising of; Federalism, Separation of Powers, Checks and Balances, and Balancing Power between the Large and Small States.

One way the Constitution makes preparations for oppression is Federalism. Federalism is only an extravagant word for the forces given to the states, to the local government, and forces the two offer. Report A states that the focal government can manage exchange, direct unfamiliar relations and announce war. The states can set up neighborhood governments, hold decisions and build up schools. As James Madison said, "The various governments will each control one another, while each will be constrained without help from anyone else." What James Madison is attempting to say is that the focal and state governments have sufficient force that they don't control everything. The focal government has sufficient ability to help a portion of the nation's significant necessities and the state government has sufficient ability to help the state's requirements in light of the fact that the state's necessities might be more explicit. From this, you may reason that splitting forces between the focal and state governments forestalls oppression.

Partition of Powers monitors us from oppression by separating the parts of government. For instance, in Document B it says, "Freedom necessitates that the incredible divisions of forces ought to be discrete and unmistakable." This implies that the Legislative Branch (Congress; House of Representatives and Senate) ought to be totally unique in relation to the Executive (President) or the Judicial Branch (Courts). The various branches could have various perspectives. This may forestall oppression by making individuals not have any desire to attempt to assume control over the public authority since they think the public authority is difficult to dominate, since there are three separate branches. All in all, the Separation of Powers shields us from oppression along these lines.

The Constitution monitors us against oppression by utilizing balanced governance. In Document C, it says, "… the consistent point is to separate and orchestrate the few workplaces in such a way as that they might be a beware of the other… . (The Three Branches) ought not be so far isolated as to have no sacred command over one another." This essentially implies other branch minds each other to ensure they have overall a similar measure of force. They check by utilizing their equivalent force and supporting or disliking something that the other branch has done, for instance, the Executive Branch can reject a legislative enactment, in any case, Legislative Branch can abrogate the official denial. Assuming one branch gets overwhelmed, it might think about oppression, in which, one branch has outright command over the entire government. With everything taken into account, utilizing balanced governance the Constitution may assist with halting oppression in the United States.

Constitution monitors us from oppression by having equivalent portrayal from every one of the states. In Document D, it expresses, "The quantity of agents will not surpass one for each 30,000, yet each state will have no less than one delegate… The Senate of the United States will be formed by the governing bodies thereof for a very long time; and every congressperson will have one vote." These laws in the Constitution are to ensure that every one of the states have equivalent force. They should all have equivalent portrayal with the goal that they can have a say in the public authority. On the off chance that the Constitution was not existent, a few states would have complete power over different states in light of the fact that the more modest states didn't have a say. The forces individuals have, additionally keep individuals who make laws from being in the public authority for a really long time since they could acquire an excessive amount of force. This is the last way the Constitution watches from oppression.

There are numerous types of oppression, and the numerous ways individuals have forestalled oppression, our own being The Constitution. Simply consider oppression a robber, it creeps up on an unprotected lady and obstacles her tote, and The Constitution as the safeguard, who handles oppression down and recovers the satchel, a.k.a the force. Federalism, Separation of Powers, Checks and Balances, and Balancing the Power among Small and Large States has shielded America against oppression for a very long time and ideally will for quite a long time to come.

English Essay on Act of Kindness

Henry James has appropriately said that "Three things in human existence are significant: the first is to be caring; the second is to be thoughtful, and the third is to be benevolent". Graciousness is the uprightness that carries one nearer to humankind and eventually to God. It's anything but a token of altruism or compassion to somebody. Generosity isn't confined to assist somebody with material things like cash, food, or garments. Benevolence additionally implies sharing somebody's distress or torment or it likewise intends to say a couple of kind words which could review individuals' complaints.

An arbitrary thoughtful gesture is a benevolent demonstration done to help or brighten up an individual or even a creature. The explanation is to make somebody grin. On the off chance that you go to the food merchants and keeping in mind that getting a couple of basics you track down that an individual has dropped his sack of apples and you lower down to help him, you are being benevolent. You clearly don't anticipate anything consequently. Straightforward behaves like stepping up to the plate and keep your environmental factors clean-social occasion coverings littered in the recreation center and placing it in the canister, encouraging a companion, taking care of an eager canine and such like are altogether basic thoughtful gestures. The award for these demonstrations is the grin on their appearances or an appreciative lick from a canine!

Whoever plays out a thoughtful gesture, it's anything but a message conveyed starting with one heart then onto the next produced from the internal identity. I can't recollect precisely which class I was. Be that as it may, I do recall the absolute first thoughtful gesture I did to somebody. At some point, I was returning home from my school that I saw a kid of my age asking on the sign. I was amazed to see that why the offspring of my age is asking as opposed to wearing a school uniform and books in the hand. I asked my dad for what reason there is such a lot of contrast among us.

My dad answered that they are helpless kids and they can't stand to purchase uniform and textbooks. Their folks are compelled to send them asking cash and food so they can take care of their stomachs. I said to my dad that I can't see an offspring of my age asking out and about as opposed to concentrating in school. How could I deal with assistance this imp? My dad said that in the event that you truly need to do a thoughtful gesture and help the helpless child, you should settle on something you have and you love. God will be content with your benevolent demonstration.

Out of nowhere, something clicked my psyche. I said to my dad that I needed to assist the child with cash in my moneybox that I was putting something aside for eighteen months to purchase a x-box. In this way, I requested that the youngster stay there and I and my dad surged abruptly to home so we could return with cash and help the child. When I returned home, I broke my moneybox and accumulated all the cash. Then, at that point I returned to the kid with my dad and gave the cash to him so he could purchase a school uniform and books. My dad guaranteed that he would get the youngster conceded to the school the following day on the off chance that he promises to contemplate.

The youngster got glad and expressed gratitude toward me a great deal. It's undeniably true that I was a little frustrated that I would not have the option to purchase my x-box this year however the sensation of aiding a meriting youngster was extraordinary. There was no bound of joy and smugness.

The Century Quilt Meaning Analysis

Composed by Marilyn Waniek, "The Century Quilt" portrays the significance of legacy in the storyteller's life. Utilizing symbolism, tone, and design, Waniek adequately delineates the significance of her blanket. The blanket addresses her family's legacy as well as her future legacy. Waniek's phrasing makes a nostalgic tone: "I recalled how I'd wanted to acquire that cover" (Lines 9-10) and "my sister and I were enamored with Meema's Indian cover" (lines 1-2). Her assertion decisions "recalled" and "were infatuated," Waniek stresses a nostalgic memory. Waniek's style permits the peruser to remember the memory through the speaker's viewpoint. The speaker portrays how she recollected "play[ing] in its folds and be clan leaders and princesses" (11-12).

She utilizes these lines to show how the blanket addressed her young and fiery days with her sister. Through the illustrative utilization of tones, Waniek makes a distinctive image of the blanket: "Six Van Dyke brown, squares, two white, and one square yellow of Meema's cheek" (lines 15-17). The shadings "brown, white, and yellow brown" depicts the presence of the blanket as well as have a more profound significance. The tones portray the shade of her predecessor's skin, not simply the real blanket. These rehashing examples of squares in all likelihood give proper respect to the speaker's blended legacy, with her family being of both Native American and Caucasian plummet. The speaker's legacy is upheld by her dreams of her grandma's adolescence back in Kentucky "among her yellow sisters; their granddad's white family" (Lines 25-26).

While one could contend that the speaker is basically discussing the existence of her grandma, it can likewise be said that the speaker is hopeful about her own future, and that she, at the end of the day, would remember her recollections while under the blanket, for example, meeting her unconceived child. The speaker's craving to have a similar passionate reaction to her blanket as her grandma to her sweeping means the significance Waniek puts on imagery. In addition to the fact that Waniek uses symbolism to accentuate the nostalgic tone, yet she likewise viably does as such by utilizing a sequential construction.

Waniek sequentially starts with the existence of the speaker's grandma, following the speakers present to ultimately finishing with speaker's conceivable future. Through the utilization of time, Waniek inventively structures her sonnet "The Century Quilt." She has tracked down her own cover and it will currently turn into her own recollections of her past family as well as the recollections that her future kids will treasure for the remainder of their lives. The sweeping turns into a connection between her past families and her future ones

Importance of School Attendance

Rationale for the Group

Chronic absenteeism is prevalent problem across the nation (U.S. Department of Education, June 2016). It is commonly defined as “missing at least 10 percent of days in the school year, or a month or more of school, excused or unexcused” (U.S. Department of Education, February, 2016). Every year approximately 6 million (13%) students across the United States miss more than 15 days of school a year (U.S. Department of Education, October 2016). This issue impacts students of all ages, race and ethnicities, and genders across the United States.

The prevalence rates of chronic absenteeism are surprisingly comparable across numerous demographics. Interestingly, although the largest variance of prevalence rates differs according to race, the disparity is relatively marginal. Recent data provided by the Department of Education (June, 2016) found that the highest rates of absenteeism are amongst American Indian (22.5%) and Pacific Islanders (21.4%). Followed by Black (17.3%), Two or more races (16.4%), Hispanic (14.1%), White (12.7%), and lastly Asian (7.1%) (U.S. Department of Education, October 2016). While each group itself does significantly vary from the overall chronic absenteeism rates in the United States as a whole (13%), it should be noted that the variance between American Indians and Asians is substantial. Additionally, males were found to be equally as likely to be chronically absent from school as females (U.S. Department of Education, October 2016). Furthermore, there was no significant correlation in terms of geographical location and rates of chronic absenteeism (U.S. Department of Education, October 2016).

Unsurprisingly, high school students have the lowest attendance rates at 20% however; junior high (12%) and elementary school (10%) chronic absenteeism rates are not too far behind. The fact that this problem does not discriminate against geographical location, age, race, or gender signifies a greater societal problem.

In an attempt to better understand which students are most at risk, researchers have utilized a variety of lenses to understand the etiology this widespread issue; however very few have looked at it from the elementary school aged students level (Robinson et al., 2018). Preliminary research indicates that elementary school attendance is predictive of students overall academic success Haynes, 2015). Similarly, Lehr, Sinclair, and Christenson (2004) found that attendance patterns of 3rd graders were predictive of poor academic achievement and high school drop out rates. Given the extensive amount of research in the field of psychology demonstrating patterns (i.e., thoughts, behaviors, beliefs) that get played out later in life, as a result of events experienced at an earlier stage of life it, is not surprising that the value a child places on his/her school attendance can be traced back to their earliest school experiences. While a student may have more control over their attendance, as they get older, that is not typically the case with young children in elementary school.

Since chronic absenteeism appears to begin in elementary school and persist throughout ones academic career, there is a need to intervene as early as possible. An early intervention would have to be designed to target the role of the parent, as they are primarily responsible for ensuring that the student gets to school during these early school years; setting forth a pattern for years to come (Robinson et al., 2018). While many parents are aware of the importance of school attendance for their children’s academic success, many believe that it is acceptable for their child to miss two or three days of class a month without an academic impact (Haynes, 2015). Regardless if an absence is excused or not, it is included in a students overall attendance rate. Although absences (excused or unexcused) do not generally become chronic for most students, the reasons for the absences may have value as to why some students are more prone to developing chronic absenteeism.

Many factors lead to chronic absenteeism such as environmental situations (poverty, homelessness, transportation) in addition to school structure/climate (education style, safety, discipline, coursework) (Kearney, 2008). Parents and guardians have a significant impact on the factors that contribute to a students attendance patterns in elementary school. While many of these factors are outside of the parents control (i.e., transportation, illness, weather) there are many factors that they do have control over (i.e., school routines, planned vacations, value of regular attendance). Therefore a program that intervenes at the elementary school level may have a profound impact on students’ future educational outcomes (Haynes, 2015). Perhaps the most interesting factor that contributes to chronic absenteeism is the relationship and level of support from parents as well as teachers in a student’s life (Haynes, 2015). Having a caring adult can be an important source of support for a student to not only come but also stay in school (Haynes, 2015). A caring adult can be a parent, teacher, coach, or mentor that cares for the student emotionally (love and care) or instrumentally (i.e., transportation, meals, help with schoolwork etc.) (Haynes, 2015). Unfortunately, many students do not have sufficient positive relationships with enough caring adults to help them succeed (Haynes, 2015).

Chronic absenteeism has been linked to many short-term consequences such as poor academic achievement to more severe, long-term implications such as dropping out of school (U.S. Department of Education, February, 2016). Furthermore, students who are chronically absent and drop out of school are more likely to be involved in violent crimes, abuse substances, become pregnant as teenagers, and have poor mental health (Kearney, 2008). These students are also more likely to be unemployed, live in poverty, and be on government assistance (Stuit & Springer, 2010). In an effort, to intervene as early as possible and potentially change student long-term beliefs about school attendance, it is hypothesized that merging the school and parents beliefs on the importance of regular school attendance, at the elementary school level, can have positive long-term effects for the student as well as society.

Specific Objectives of the Group

The purpose of this group would be to support and educate parents whose children have been identified by the school district as chronically absent and help parents understand both the short and long-term effects of their child’s chronic absenteeism and methods that they can take to make a change in this pattern. This will be a time-limited, psychoeducational group for parents of children who were chronically absent from school the previous school year. The primary objective of the group is to increase school attendance of the group member’s child.

One goal of the group is for parents to become more involved in their child’s education. Research shows that involved parents serve as positive allies to preventing low attendance rates (Robinson et al., 2018). Members will learn skills, strategies, and information to help them increase their child’s attendance in school. Members will gain a better understanding of the short and long-term effects of chronic absenteeism. They will obtain skills to communicate with their child as well as with the school.

Group Composition

Group membership will be defined as parent(s) of children in elementary school (1st– 5th grade); whose child was chronically absent in the previous school year. The maximum number of members will be 8 parents; regardless of parental dyads verse single parents. If a child has two parents in their home both parents are welcome to join the group, however the maximum number of members remains at 8, regardless of how many parents represent each child. Additionally, a child may only be represented by a maximum of two parents. A second or third group may be established to run concurrently with the first group or during the second half of the school year, if enough interest is expressed. If more interest is expressed then able to accommodate with a second or third group, potential members will be placed on a waiting list for the following year or the second half of the school year. Parents whom are not able to join due to limited space will be provided an informational packet regarding the effects of chronic absenteeism, and may be referred for outside counseling if deemed necessary.

Practical Considerations

This group will consist of 8 weekly sessions, not including the individual face-to-face session with the school counselor, or the pre-group session. The group will meet every Friday, for the first 8-weeks of a new school year, with a purpose of imparting information onto parents about the importance of their child’s regular attendance and the impact it has on their current academic success as well as potential long term effects of poor attendance. The hope is that the parents will learn skills and gain knowledge that will benefit their child’s attendance rates in the upcoming school year and beyond.

Given that the group members will be parents of children who attend the identified school, the group will meet at the school. This is an ideal, meeting location as it symbolically will join the parent and school together with the child. The meetings will take place in the school cafeteria. The cafeteria will provide a large open space that is private and free from distractions. Prior to group member arrival, the leader(s) will arrange the chairs in a circle in the middle of the room. The cafeteria also provides ample amount of windows and lighting as opposed to alternative options such as the gymnasium or band room that lack window and may appear cold and unwelcoming. Additionally, the cafeteria is relatively free from distractions like the décor in a classroom. Furthermore, meeting at the school also allows the children to get help with their homework in the library at the afterschool program while the parents attend the group meeting.

Each session will last approximately an hour and a half. This first 40-minutes will allow ample amount of time for members to check-in with each other and discuss any issues or concerns with the material from the previous week. The remaining 40-minutes will be devoted to learning the new material and discussing any concerns or issues that they have with implanting the new material.

Technology has Made Us Lazy

The modern generation of this day have lost their creativity. People and children are playing on electronics to much whether they are texting while driving, or even playing video games on the Xbox or Ps4. These electronics and new methods are taking away room for the old method of 'fun,' kids and adults are not even going outside anymore. This generation is falling apart because people are on electronics to much, being lazy, and are not using their brains.

People are on electronics too much and are not going and playing or working outside. The average american right now is spending nearly half a day looking at a screen! Around 81% of adults right now have smartphones and use these said smartphones for over 2 hours a day for social media alone. Kids aging from 8 to 12 years old are on social media daily for over 4 and a half hours. This horrid habit that we as americans have gained in our daily lives needs to be put to a end. We can end this habit by going outside and doing things to bring positive attributes in our life.

People exhibiting less and less effort into things in life. One way people are being lazy is with something that takes little to no effort. Recycling when people need to recycle they choose not to and to just put it in the trash. Now this is a humongous problem it shows that there was a generated 251 million tons of trash counted in 2012 and how much recycling compared to that giant number? Only 4.5% of recycled trash compared to if people recycled that number would probably go up a good 10% at least. Laziness is a plaguing habit that we are showing throughout our live. it is a problem that we need to drop from our daily lives like the people back then that did not have these certain problems.

Whether doing something someone is not supposed to do, or even answering something wrong on a test. People do not think before they act, it is a common trait that we just had overtime. One main reason of this is electronics, instead of reading a book kids and adults are deciding to use things like Ipads and phones. Which can have a major effect of decline on people’s critical thinking and their analysis of things. They say that reading has decreased from in the 1980’s with 60% of 12th graders reading a book outside of school. To in 2007 with only 16% of 12th graders reading books outside of school. This lack of reading shows with the SAT score in 2016 being the lowest scores ever since 1972. We can fix this lack of thinking and analysis by going and reading a book which can bring up your thinking by giving you new words and stories to learn.

This society has been ripping and tearing itself apart in many different ways. People around the world are being negatively affected by these changes whether overusing electronics, being to lazy, and even not using their heads. It is the ways that the economy can counter these negative habits and traits which is truly what is really going to matter.

The Musical “Hamilton”

In the cast of Hamilton, people with color play the role of a caucasian person. This idea helps the society because it shows race, color, or religion does not matter. Courage and bravery come along with presenting the unfamiliar roles. All human beings deserve equal rights, respect, and to be treated the same.

First, Hamilton 'reclaims' the history of America's founding by placing people of color at the center of it. It allows people of color to see themselves as a part of history--not just as slaves and servants, but as men (and women, to a lesser degree) of power and influence. 'Hamilton' succeeds as a work of art because it's more than just a musical. It's cultural criticism done with the utmost grace and cleverness. One of the main reasons of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s idea of the reverse roles was to portray the story of America from its historical past through the eyes and voices of America now. Miranda has expressed his desire to write shows for male Latinos. He struggled in the theatre to find lead roles that he could fit, so he wrote them. With using modern music like rap and soul, Lin-Manuel Miranda wanted to use Hamilton to convey the heart and soul, as well as the diversity, of modern America. Although using a non-white cast is not representative of the Colonial/post-Revolution United States, it is representative of the present state of our country. The musical is designed to be relatable, and the fact that all races are represented makes it a more relatable production.

He also talked about the fact that people of color often get passed up for big roles in general. He wrote a show to give people of color the opportunity to shine.

Next, Miranda’s decision comes to be a very artistic choice as much as it is a political one. If your production of Hamilton features the founding fathers who look like the real ones, you're doing it wrong. The multiracial cast of Hamilton is important because it's a representation of the innovative immigrant culture that provides to the growth of America. Not only does Hamilton provide meaty roles for performers of those backgrounds, but it proves that a show starring people of color can be enormously successful. Miranda's revolutionary musical gets people thinking about race, history, and theater in ways they're probably not used to. He educates audiences about an important a piece of American history through rap and hip-hop in a work of art so ingenious that it would be brilliant even if there were no message behind it. Like the rap and hip-hop sounds that drive the musical, the social sensibilities of the characters are very much of our time, not of a time long gone. Miranda is not trying to re-create the past; he is trying to highlight commonalities between the founding generation and today's upcoming generations. He creates a historically accurate picture of Hamilton as a brilliant young man, born out of wedlock and orphaned at a young age, who immigrates to America with a driving ambition to make a name for himself. Keeping mind, he is someone with whom young people with an immigrant background can particularly identify. Miranda's key decision was to make the race of the actors irrelevant. In the Pantages cast, for instance, the actors playing Hamilton, Burr, Washington and Jefferson are all African Americans. This break with factuality quickly becomes irrelevant in the context of a show that, otherwise, tries to get the major historical details right. Miranda wants his audience; especially the non-white, youthful segment of his audience; to connect with the story of America's creation, so he gives them hip-hop instead of harpsichords and diversity instead of literal representation. Common principles of liberty and justice and the timeless striving of succeeding generations to reshape their world will be the important thing.

Some folks, however, may have more difficulty overlooking the fraught issue of race.

The fact that the young, hot-blooded revolutionaries and the brave women who contributed to the makings of America are performed by mainly black and Latino actors against the army of a white monarch, is very much a political statement. It's a salute towards the oppressed and marginalized masses of our country today, who take their cause to the streets and yet are dismissed by the media for rebelling against the system.

After all, Alexander Hamilton was an immigrant from the West Indies himself, and this vital theme of immigration and the American identity helped Lin-Manuel Miranda in the creative process of his works, which are significantly directed towards people like him (his family is from Puerto Rico). So this theme of immigration - of various people coming to this country from various places - opens up an awesome door that reveals a theater stage which has diversity running through its veins. As the son of Puerto Rican immigrants, Lin-Manuel Miranda undoubtedly understood Alexander Hamilton’s struggle to rise above expectations and prove himself in a new place. Within the musical, Alexander Hamilton’s life is lauded as the ultimate immigrant story, and yet we also witness how no matter how much he thrives, men who fear his power and vision of the future continue to hold his roots against him by taking cheap shots at his heritage. At his boldest Hamilton facetiously declares, “Immigrants: we get the job done.” But on a personal level, the line that is most striking is one of his first— “He looked at me like I was stupid; I’m not stupid.”

That incessant struggle to prove one’s own self-worth is at the heart of the Founding Father narrative, and with Hamilton’s diverse cast, it becomes a parallel to the struggle that every immigrant goes through as well, especially when living amidst a political climate that still struggles to address the uncomfortable issues surrounding race. Hamilton is about taking back the original narrative to universalize it for the kind of America our country has grown into today.

American history is always being refined and rewritten. The reputations of the various Founding Fathers have risen and fallen and risen again over more than two centuries. Hamilton represents something of an anomaly in American history, a founding father who never transferred from official histories into popular mythology. There are many reasons for this, not least that Hamilton’s positions were incompatible with many of our myths – he was avowedly elitist, for example, and supported the idea of a president for life – while his expansion of the federal government prompted the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794, which he brutally suppressed. Miranda creates a myth for Hamilton by celebrating him as a symbol of immigrant inclusiveness, egalitarianism and meritocracy: historically it’s a stretch, but theatrically it’s genius.

Personally, I agree with the idea of placing people with color in the center of attention because it gives them equal rights and shows that everyone should be respected the same. It can also cause some controversy as well. Some people believe this idea can be identified as racism towards the white people. Obviously, Miranda’s intention is no where near being racist but in some ways, the colored people have more power because of the roles they played. The play gives an understanding of the world we live in and how we contribute to keeping it a place where everyone is treated equal.

Movie “Miss Evers’ Boys”

Miss Evers Boys movie is based on a true story that happened in the 1930s. It’s a study called the “Tuskegee experiment” it took place in Alabama, where African American men participated and had no idea what conscience might cause later on. Because, these men were uneducated or did not have a higher level of education they were trusting and following what Miss. Evers word.

Miss Evers is a nurse in that county who also participated in the study. The men’s who are participants of the experiment were not informed about how this disease could damage their immune system and other bay parts as well they were only told they are being checked if they have “bad blood”. The government started an experiment on African American men with Syphilis called the “Tuskegee experiment” in Alabama. The Tuskegee experiment is studying Blank men’s with Syphilis who are untreated. Its examination is such as blood work and x-ray. In the movie, they were using blood work examination. The man reason of the study and why they brought this to Alabama is to have more understanding about the black men body reaction to syphilis comparing to white men and at the time Alabama was where the most African American people lived in compared to other states. About a hundred and twelve men were found who was diagnosed with Syphilis. Syphilis is a germ that is painless but is high cottages it can also hide inside a human’s body for up to thirty years. Leads patents to not brit or spick. Once these men were selected, they were given long-term treatment but really the treatment was fake and was only giving placebos. Syphilis is treated by penicillin treatment and by a mercury blood is also not a hundred percent treatable. Once they started the study the plan was to use the program funding and turn it to the state but the state turned down the study and was told the state didn’t have enough money in another word it wasn’t considered worthy of the government research funds. During the study, they proposed and decided to not give any kind of antibiotic and the doctored are getting some benefit although it was not mentioned exactly what it was in the movie. Miss Evers objected the proposal but no one really heard her and because of her career, she had no choice but to follow and do what the doctors’ order her to do. Miss Evers then started to give the men’s free ride and offered food in exchange. Miss Evers was unhappy about the doctor’s decision and now they are against their words. She was committed to helping and getting rid of the disease. The “bad blood” the only person who knew about this other than the doctors and nurses is Caleb who Miss Ever told him because he does seem to question more about the study than the other and made sure he wouldn’t tell the others they have syphilis. Later on, the situation behind the curtain was leaked out by one of the staff who use to work at the hospital.

The Tuskegee experiment effects the publicity in many ways more than half of the people died from complication syphilis and those who survived have become disabled in many ways, for example, some lost their eye vision. After a while penicillin was available but was never offered to the people because it was being used to treat a different kind of infections but it was refused to give the men who are in the experiment on the “bad blood” or syphilis. Also, people weren’t aware of that there was some side effect when using penicillin but some did get the treatment and had no sign of any side effect which we also saw in the movie one of the characters was having a problem with his join and end up receiving penicillin. The Tuskegee experiment was studied between the 1930s – 1940s and early 1950s Throughout the movie, I saw that the people in Alabama and those who participated in the “Tuskegee” experiment were being lied to by the hospital and the medical specialists. Especially after they did the test for syphilis and patients were being lied to and misinformed about their health. It’s very unethical how this study wasn’t providing to help the people nor their communities instead it was being focused on syphilis and how it’s affecting African American men different than white men. The medical specialist could have educated the African American men what syphilis really is and how it can be treated. They have given the patient false information and I feel like the only reason the participants agreed to the experiment is they thought they had “bad blood” and were expecting a free treatment with no out of pocket cost. It’s really unfair and disrespectful how the government took their human right just because of their color leading to face lack of treatment, were only given placebos, and liniments leaving these men to death and just document their record. Many dies and the rest who survived end up having health complication afterward. It is very unethical how the government did not recognize or considered how the wellbeing of the individual is important no matter what their ethnicity or race might be. We see the U.S. Health Service discriminating the black men butting them in a risk of death. When really the U.S. Health Service was supposed to be about the health and wellbeing of the people and the communities.

Informative Article about Loyalty

Remember when you would go to your favourite deli, buy your favourite sandwich, then pull out your loyalty card to get that ‘oh so good feeling’ punch or stamp? Those were simpler times. You may have had a loyalty card for your favourite ice cream store, coffee shop, lunch place, salon, etc. Oh, how things have changed. Its estimated that the average US household now participates in over 29 different loyalty programs. That is a lot cards to keep track of and even more stamps and punches. However, the days of the loyalty card are as good as gone, these days loyalty is digital, and it most commonly comes in the form of an app. It seems like everyone is offering some kind of loyalty program, and honestly, at this point it's becoming more of a bother than a bargain. Loyalty programs now feel more like loyalty schemes. There is just too much to keep up with and the effort required to attain rewards hardly seems worth it in the long run. Is the loyalty program dead? Are we supposed to revert back to our card-based systems, stuffing our wallets full of cards that usually expire before they can even be filled? Maybe.

However, there is a new technology that seems to be on the tip of everyone’s tongues these days, one that is expected to change the way we think about transactions of any kind. Blockchain has the ability to revamp the loyalty rewards system, saving both time and money for the loyal customer and businesses as well. The Price of Loyalty How many loyalty cards or apps do you have? You have one for your favourite food joint, one for the coffee house you claim has better coffee than any other place, your credit card rewards for entertainment, for miles, for god knows what else. The fact of the matter is, is that there are just too many rewards to keep track of these days. And at the end of the day, what is your loyalty even good for? You buy countless cups of coffee until finally you are rewarded with what? Another cup of coffee, maybe a donut or croissant? Sure, credit cards often offer different reward options, however, the choices are usually limited to the cards partner companies. Plus, what are you working so hard for? Usually, credit card companies offer introductory rewards, such as a, “spend $500 within the first month and get $100 in points in return” option, but after that, reward programs often require participants to spend hundreds of dollars for an unsubstantial return. So, it seems there are three main problems associated with the everyday customer rewards program. One, there are too many options. Two, there is a lack of diverse rewards. And three, the work to reward ratio is severely flawed. What is a loyal customer to do? Blockchain has the ability to provide both businesses and consumers with an easier system. One that provides an industry-wide centralized rewards system, in which rewards are more diverse and therefore worthwhile.

Reinventing Loyalty with Blockchain Blockchain, the technology behind cryptocurrencies offers a variety of benefits through its ability to act as a digital distributed ledger. One of the best things blockchain can do for customer rewards programs is to provide a centralized system which can be shared by multiple businesses through a single point system. Think about it like this, one application shared by all companies that offer a rewards program, making it simpler for both businesses and companies alike. One of the reasons why it takes so long for customers to build points is that rewards programs are often difficult and costly to maintain. Through the use of smart contracts and the perks offered through blockchain, rewards program’s systems can be both easier and more cost efficient to maintain. Blockchain, through automation, greatly decreases the chance of human error. Loyalty programs can often be costly and difficult for businesses to establish, and often require a substantial amount of time dedicated to marketing. Blockchain has the ability to reduce a loyalty reward’s system management. It can reduce costs associated with human error. By developing an industry-wide blockchain, partner companies can be added to the same blockchain, and a single point system established to ease system management for companies, and point management for customers. Customer points will be rewarded in near real-time, making it easier for loyalty programs to coordinate quicker and in an easier manner. Blockchain prevents a double spending problem, fraud, or abuse due to the fact that it is secure and uses an immutable time-stamped distributed database. This is the technology that has securely prompted the transactions of millions of dollars. It is a deep cryptographic system that is not only being developed for rewards programs, but for banking and financial institutions as well. Loyyal and Qiibee Already there are multiple blockchain-based rewards programs. Loyyal is based in San Franciso, and offers businesses blockchain-based reward program solutions.

Loyyal powered rewards programs offer businesses scalability, liability reduction, and more satisfied customers due to its ability to provide more reward options. It is a permissioned blockchain, meaning it is only available to those given permission, rather than a traditional blockchain which is permissionless and thereby viewable by all. Qiibee, founded in 2015, aims to provide customers with one wallet that has the capability to redeem rewards through various businesses. Using blockchain technology, and all the benefits it provides as explained above, the founders of Qiibee, Gabriele and Gianluca Giancola, hope to bring simplicity to the confusing loyalty rewards program space. Obstacles that Need to be Overcome First Although efforts are already being made by Loyyal and Qiibee blockchain will not be able to change the currently outdated rewards system overnight. There are a few obstacles that need to be overcome first. For one, blockchain is still too new. There are more meaningful uses for the technology, and even in these sectors, the technology is still being researched. Also, because blockchain is so new, businesses will be less likely to adopt its use. Rewards programs may seem flawed to consumers, but that does not necessarily mean businesses will rush to revamp their systems overnight. That means that a centralized rewards system will be harder to develop. However, those who get in first will most likely reap the most benefits later. Companies may also be hesitant to join an immutable ledger and therefore an immutable system. It will be much harder for companies to make changes to their rewards programs once they have been established.

Especially if they are partnered with other companies. A blockchain requires cooperation and trust, both of which many companies lack these days. So, in order for blockchain to actually prove useful to both businesses and loyalty rewards participants, it must first achieve industry-wide adoption. From there, businesses will have to work together in order to build a useful and cost-efficient system. Although blockchain can be extremely useful when applied in the right way, at the moment it seems to be more hype than anything else. However, once the technology has been developed further it can provide many benefits, not only for rewards programs but for many others as well.

Lies and Redemption in “The Crucible”

The story of The Crucible is very interesting in many ways. It expands on the idea that a single lie can cause people to throw away their morales for their own personal benefit.Throughout the story one of the key characters to show this is John Proctor. John evolves through the story by using lies as a way to hide his mistakes, but shows guna nature by attempting to change his common ways.

In the history of mankind lies have been spread for personal gain, peoples attempt to hide the fact that they have lied is a big change of moral. Lying is the way humans figure out to cope with being wrong or doing something wrong. The hopes of not getting caught or being seen as less. In the story John is a known sinner by Abigail, anytime she confronts him about the “affair” they had he gets defensive “ You’ll speak nothing of Elizabeth” (Miller 1140). John’s constant inability to come forth with what he’s done causes a lot of internal conflict within him. He knows what he has done is bad, but he won’t own up to it. John knows that he did what was wrong, but he has the second voice; that goes against his morality. This voice tells him that what he did isn’t wrong, and that it was cause because Elizabeth doesnt love him back. When a lie is found out by anyone else that the lie was intended to go to, it can cause a lot of damage. Lying to someone can be seen as withholding the truth from them, and they won’t be able to trust. John has this issue with Elizabeth, as “[he] means to please (you), Elizabeth” with constant mistrust anywhere and everything he does (Miller 1162). John has many attempts to fix his relationship but he struggles. Elizabeth always asks what he’s doing and she doesn’t trust him even when he goes into the town to see what the situation is with Abigail being caught in the woods. Throughout we see multiple attempts by John to fix his concurrent situation after being caught mid lie but with no avail. Lies if done badly can cut deep. It’s common human nature to change things after being caught with a lie to make things better.

Redemption is the only way people come back from making a huge mistake. Once a person is caught in the wrong, their inner morale comes back and they attempt to do everything they can to fix their wrongs. One last time before redemption john yells at his wife “Spare me! You forget nothin and forgive nothing! Learn charity woman!” Johns many attempts to save his relationship with his wife fail due to his inability to fix the situation via other means. His wife feels like she isn’t loved, even though he does everything he feels like he can, to bring her back into his life again. John experiences regret towards the end of the story as he feels his time is limited. John attempts to correct the wrongs in his life by going out of his way to prove someone else was lying (in this case this was Abigail. John then proceeds to get called for witchcraft and has to go to trail. After his trial john then has to confess and he believes God is the ultimate judge “Damn the village! I confess to god, and god has seen my name on this! It is enough!”, Proctor believes he doesn't need to prove himself to anyone else, as he has “sinned against God” and feels he should prove himself to anyone else (Miller 1231). Johns redemption in attempt to clear himself of sin is by doing the ultimate sacrifice. John is given the option of saving his family name or saving his own life. Proctor first decided that his life was more valuable, but he thought about the effects of what would happen to his kids if they were unable to get a job and had no ownership of land. After long thought he sees that it’s not worth to ruin his kids lives for their mistakes and he saves the life of his family (through the name) and he ultimately gets hanged.

Lies throughout history are known to cause massive issues within people's lives. This can also change the way someone lives and changes as life goes on. In the story of The Crucible we see John go from being a liar about his affair to getting redemption. He changes as a character by seeing the things he did wrong, and in turn his morale compass was still there to do the right thing. John goes from almost lying that he was a witch to decided that his family's life would be worth saving since the family name wouldn't be ruined because of him lying that he was a witch. Instead of lying and saying he saw others with the devil. John thinks of this moment and he decides he doesn't want to lie anymore. This is the change that was needed in him as a character and it shows that if people do change from their original ways so much, that they can change as a person and completely redeem themselves.

Essay about Prison Reform

More people are incarcerated today than ever before. There are several different types of prisons or institutions in the United States that include state prisons, county jails, and federal prisons. The United States currently has over 2 million people in prison. That accounts for approximately 25% of the worlds imprisoned population (Forman, 2011). How can the prison system help reduce the recidivism rate? Some of the programs that have been developed to help the recidivism rate include drug and alcohol treatment programs, education and training programs, and mental health programs. These programs are aimed at educating the person on how to handle the pressures of being released back into the world.

Education and Training Programs

Most prisoners that are incarcerated lack the educational ability to understand how to succeed in life. Many incarcerated subjects lack a high school diploma. Studies show that there is a direct link between the lack of education and chance or probability that the person will be incarcerated (Colgan, 2006). Because the prisoners are being released with the same educational level, they came with greatly increases the recidivism rate. That’s why educational programs are such a heavy topic in the prison reform talks.

Programs like vocational, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), and post-secondary education could give the prisoner the tools needed to have a successful re-entry into society. Having vocational training could help the prisoner find a field of work outside the prison and give him the tool set for a variety of jobs. Employment of the prisoner after he is released beneficial to his success of staying out of prison. A former prisoner that is un-employed is around 33% (Burt, 2010). A former prisoner that can find stable work is much more likely to succeed on the outside, than that of someone who can’t find work. Without a steady income a former inmate is more likely to commit a crime to get money and eventually end back up behind bars. That is why vocational training is so important. If an ex-prisoner lacks the ability and skills to hold down a job, they are much more likely to slide back into a life of crime (Nathan, 2008).

Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs

One of the most important programs that could be implement with the prison system is drug and alcohol treatment programs. Approximately 30% of people that are incarcerated admitted to having a substance abuse problem when they committed their crime (Colgan, 2006). If the prison system could provide these substance abuse programs it could have an instrumental affect on the prison population. One of the main short falls is putting someone in prison that has a drug of alcohol problem and believing that just because they have no access to it the problem is solved. Without a treatment program that is tailored to the addict they will have a greater chance to return to drugs after they are released.

Mental Health Services

Mental health is a topic that expands the prison walls to the general public. Estimates show that a person that is incarcerated is 2 to 4 times more likely to be suffering from a mental illness than someone in the general public (Colgan, 2006). One of the biggest obstacles for someone in prison to receive adequate mental illness help is because the lack of medication that is available, and the lack staffing the prison system has. The ratio of inmates to corrections staff is way out numbered. A lot of times when an inmate acts out, has fits of rage or violence, or tries to harm themselves they are suffering from some type of mental illness.

For an inmate to go untreated for any amount of time can be like a ticking timebomb. The lack of mental illness help can also have a harmful effect on the other inmates too. Having someone in your cell block that is suffering from a mental illness and has fits of rage can become a risk to the other inmates in the same cell block. After an inmate has these outbursts, they are sometimes segregated from the other prison population, which has an adverse reaction. Most health professionals say this course of action often worsens the problem for the person suffering from a mental illness.

Another problem that the prison system sees is the release of the inmate that still suffers from the mental illness and has no ways of dealing with the situation. When an inmate re-enters society with a condition that has went untreated, they will have a harder time with their transition. This will make them more susceptible to breaking the law and going back to jail.

Conclusion

Approximately 650,000 people are released from prison each year to return to society (Pinard, 2006). Some of these individuals may live on your street or maybe next door. The better help that they can receive will not only help them but may help you. When a person gets released from prison it is often a very stressful and intimidating time, often with only the clothes on their back with no money, no mode of transportation, or anywhere to go. While in prison if they can be provided with the skills and knowledge of how to cope with obstacles they may face once they are free, the transition of those skills will make it easier for life on the outside and society as a whole. When they were incarcerated, they had a schedule and set of rules they had to follow. Now that they are free, they need to know how to move forward and function as a normal person would. A lot of law makers look at prison reform as being soft on crime, but in the end most of the people going to prison will one day be out walking the streets again. The theory of prison reform is to change the character, attitude, and behavior of the offenders and to strengthen their acknowledgement of their unwanted behavior (Kennard, 1989). That was just a handful of reform options that could help keep people from being return customers in the prison system. There is a vast majority of other issues that would also help the recidivism rate, but these programs are not cheap. The real uphill battle is getting the funding to start some of these programs, convincing the public that someone that just committed a serious crime deserves some type of help is hard to do. If we can focus our efforts on some of the more prevalent issues like, mental health, educational and vocational programs, and drug and alcohol programs the country could possibly end of saving money because of the lack of recidivism. Of the nearly two million people that are incarcerated in the United Stated approximately 96% will be released at some point (Colgan, 2006). That is staggering numbers, and we as a society must figure out a solution to keep people imprisoned or to get them ready to reenter society.

Argumentative Essay about Stress Disorder

Today there are many people who have experienced some type of assault or abuse and many people would not realize it. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is something I have had yet never been diagnosed. People connect Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD, to war veterans, at least I did. However, people can suffer from it in other ways.

This disorder has personally affected me and still does. At a young age I had experienced more trauma and suffering than someone normally would for their entire life. I have been a victim of sexual abuse and other family struggles which I would not go in depth with. Nevertheless, specifically with my abuse, which occurred for what used to be half my life and now it is just a small part of it. For eight years I lived a life that was horrific yet seemed normal for me. It was not though. After going through therapy for a while before I chose to stop, I realized that after years had passed I had still felt the same. I was not often depressed but I had vivid memories and dreams that made me think I was living in that moment.

I would dream about the dark moments when father’s brother would do things to me while my parents were busy fighting. In those dreams I could not speak nor yell. It was very similar to how I felt during that moment- weak and unheard. Then I would wake up from that nightmare and remember it was all a dream. This would happen at random times yet sometimes in random moments I would see them again. I would also picture the exact moment when going to the police station and experience that process again on its own. Furthermore, writings about this disorder has helped understand what I went through and what other people in different situations go through similarly after something horrific has occurred.

I wanted this topic specifically rather than discuss about other topics such as compulsive disorder or childhood trauma. I want to go in depth and understand more about what happens to people like this; in addition to the factors that leads people to get PTSD.

Post-traumatic stress disorder has been defined by the American Psychological Association as an anxiety issue that develops in people after living traumatic events. People can get it from experiencing a natural disaster or accident. Those who suffer from PTSD can have flashback memories or nightmares that can be unavoidable that reminds them of the trauma they have suffered. Their daily life in interrupted and usually have anxiety feelings that disrupts their daily life. (www.apa.org).

Many psychologists have experimented in groups of people who have experienced post-traumatic stress disorder after being victims of war and kept in captivity. Solomon (2008) discovered that after 18 and 30 years of coming back from captivity many people were still experiencing symptoms of PTSD. For example, he examined two different groups of survivors’ anxiety levels and their avoidance. After all the results did conclude that there is an “increase in attachment insecurities anxiety, avoidance and an increase in PTSD symptoms decades after the captivity”. In addition, Solomon also found that these people also developed complex post traumatic stress disorders which affects their personalities in different ways. These survivors have experienced torture and terror as well as solitary confinement. Even though these survivors did had PTSD, they experienced more negative affects because of the situation they had overcame. They were deprived of their basic needs such as physical and emotional support. However, these groups of people differ from those that have witnessed a horrific car accident which was a single event unlike experiencing it for a period of time. Moreover, in another experiment of war veterans who self-reported their symptoms after being deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan had similar results. (Smith, 2008). More than 40 percent of those that were deployed from 2001 to 2006 experienced of levels of PTSD. About one percent of the people did not report their combat exposures while everyone else did. Those that were either deployed or in the baselines still suffered from PTSD. There has been a large amount of people who come from war and experience PTSD. Unlike the other experiments who had a different experience both were traumatic and resulted in having symptoms of PTSD.

Nevertheless, PTSD can also be resulted in people who have experienced childhood trauma. Pratchett (2011) discusses how those who suffer from child abuse can have psychiatric illnesses like PTSD. Pratchett concluded that those who suffer single events will less likely experience post traumatic stress disorder even though there are still a few amounts that do. Those who do experience PTSD will have a greater chance of revictimization according to Pratchett. The impact of any type of child abuse will not likely be realized until adulthood if any. However, in when examining children who had experience natural disasters had found 87 percent of them to have PTSD. It is evident that depending on the situation or trauma a child experiences the result of getting PTSD can be different. The University of Tulsa (2017) found that there are many factors to why a person has PTSD. Those factors can very but the there are some that overlap. The study had about 167 U.S journalists in different media organizations to be at risk for PTSD by taking a closer look at environmental and personal factors when covering traumatic stories. This study’s “factors included exposure to traumatic stressors in their personal lives, work-related traumatic stressors, and general organizational stressors.' (University of Tulsa, 2017). The results provided significant support for the negative impact of organizational stressors and avoidant emotional coping on journalists covering trauma-related stories. There are people in the already get used to that type of climate, however this indicated how these individuals still had work related PTSD symptoms. Moreover, (Dowd, 2011) went more in depth in how psychological treatment has an effect on PTSD in children. There are many traumatic stressors that can affect a childlike go through a tragic event. However, there are people who different reactions to different events. In most when children got through situations like that, children experience more challenges. For example, as (Dowd, 2011) stated that the average rate for a person to have PTSD after sexual abuse during their childhood is about 32 percent. While there is 30 percent of children that go into the emergency room that actually experience some levels of PTSD.

PTSD is having very different aspects to it and there has been multiple findings in understanding this disorder on a larger scale. For instance, it has been discovered to be more common for women than men as stated by Sumner (2016). In this experiment it was concluded that women who had more symptoms of PTSD also had more hypertension than those who did not. Even though there were other risk factors accounted for like body mass index and lifestyles most results were consistent making this more reliant. “Exposure to trauma, including childhood abuse (Riley. 2010) and combat (Granado. 2009), has been associated with increased hypertension risk. PTSD, the sentinel trauma-related disorder, has been tied to hypertension across numerous, and cross-sectional, studies”. (Sumner, 2016). As stated before with the other issues that can lead to PTSD, it is also important to consider that specific genders are more prone to getting PTSD. In addition, another study was conducted by (Silove, 2017) where couples who had someone with high levels of trauma within the relationship to be evaluated to how they are in the relationship currently. This study had 677 couple answer survey questions and “measure[d] post-traumatic stress disorder, psychological distress, explosive anger, and grief. The women had more traumatic experiences than men. These same women had more symptoms of PTSD than men too. The more trauma an individual had the more explosive anger and grief that person had. The trauma had affected these individuals personally but also their relationships. This indicates how PTSD is once again resulted when experiencing traumatic events.

Lastly, there are many factors to why people get PTSD. The research done was vital to understanding this disorder since many people can be affected without them knowing. In situations where a person might react to it in a certain that can result in trauma which can eventually lead to PTSD no matter the time that has occurred.

Research Paper about Career Choice

With a growing career of opportunities and growing education expansion, Respiratory Therapy is a rewarding field to be educated and involved in as It helps us help the ones in need whether they may be critical, trauma or even recovering patients. As I believe that a life given of breath, is a life well lived.

I graduated High School in 2012 and as soon as I graduated, I knew I wanted to focus and persuade my career in the science field. At the beginning of my college career, I wasn’t too sure of what exactly in science was it that I wanted to do so as a starter I began my college at the Houston Community college and at Wharton County Junior College/ University of Houston where I decided to take some of my basic science classes there as those will be the basic course requirement for my admission in the science field career. For the beginning I started taking classes with history, government, fine arts, humanities, psychology, philosophy, chemistry, Anatomy,  biology, college algebra, microbiology and even organic chemistry 1 and 2. While I was taking these courses I had decided on a few majors that I wanted to do further studies on like pharmacy and nursing but as I continued it was not quit what I wanted so I continued taking courses leading to this direction. My interest in the Respiratory Therapy began at a college fair that was happening at the University Of Houston where counsellors from different school had came explaining and giving information on the program they had offered at their school and in that fair, one of the school that had came was the University Of Texas at medical Branch and that was where they had a stable set up explaining what a respiratory Therapy Program is all about as it was a new program that had started at most schools.

As the counsellor told me and gave me more information about it, I knew that it was definitely something I was interested in and wanted to get proper education and admission into the program. Some of the most common pre requisites required to enter this program at any accredited university or college are English 1 and 2, Biology 1 and 2 , Chemistry, College Algebra, Anatomy 1 and 2, HPRS, and Computer Science. A Few additional classes may or may not be required for admission depending on the college and their requirements. Once you are accepted into the Respiratory Therapy Program, most Associate program are 1.5 years long divided into 5 semester. As per Delmar requirements, the first semester the classes are Fundament of Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacology and Clinical, Second Semester I took, Fundamental of Respiratory Therapy 2, Cardiopulmonary Disease and clinical. The third semester was Mechanical Ventilations and Clinical. The fourth Semester I took, neonatal and pediatric in the respiratory therapy and clinical and our last semester we will be taking the respiratory exam prep and clinical. After these requirements and classes have been successfully completed, you are eligible to sit for the board exam in order to be either or both a CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) and a RRT (registered Respiratory Therapist) and these license, by law are required to be renewed by completing a certain number of CE (Continuing Education) to maintain the license every 2 years according to the “American Association of Respiratory Care”

I personally Chose this program because I have family members that are in this field and also a few friends that have recently graduated in this program and I haven’t not heard anything but good thing about this field and their experience working and I wanted to follow the same footsteps that leads to success.

Medical Terminology and Basic Health profession have been the two more useful classes that were required for us to take in order to continue our major and graduate. It is helpful because it gives you the basic concept and a basic knowledge required for any science field you plan to enter. The terms you learn in the medical terminology class are some of the most basic terms used every day at a hospital setting and between medical professionals and the skills you develop in the basic health profession class are also helpful skills you learn and develop such as CPR, First aid, Vein puncture and many other skills used daily

Respiratory Therapy Program is a fairly new and a developing career in the medical field and has many advantages to work and grow in this field. It is a recommended career for anyone interested in helping others and being in work setting of constant learning and growing for bigger and better opportunities.

Argumentative Essay about Social Issues

“Social issue is a generic term applied to a range of conditions and aberrant behaviours which are manifestations of social disorganization. It is a condition which most people in a society consider undesirable and want to correct by changing through some means of social engineering or social planning” (Oxford Dictionary of Sociology, 1994). Social issues are often the consequence of factors extending beyond an individual's control, and is the source of a conflicting opinion on the grounds of what is perceived as a morally just personal life or societal order. In this essay we will explore various types of social issues, their causes and effects and make recommendations to curb or provide a resolution.

One of the main social issues in today's world is child abuse. Mostly recently the cry for protection of the children in Dominica has been widespread on social media, but what is the cause of such a problem. This type of abuse can take several forms; e.g physical, psychological, sexual and neglect. Child Abuse can occur at the hands of close relatives, caregivers and sometime parents and poses significant detrimental effect on the child’s psyche. Children zero to five years old are the most at risk for child abuse. But, what causes someone to abuse a child? It maybe a lack of the adequate parenting skills. Very often we have individuals who are unprepared becoming parents and the stress from the change in what is concerned their norm causes them to lash out at the child. Child abuse is also prevalent in homes with a history of domestic violence, children who witness abuse of a parent are prone to being the next victim of violence. Child abuse negatively affects the child who has to bear the long-term scars throughout their entire life. Abuse can play a huge role in the ways a child manages relationship during the later stages in life. Children are unable to function normally at school, college or work when they grow up: One of the main ways to curb child abuse is to recognise the signs earlier and report cases to the relevant authorities.

Another major social issue is that of drug abuse and alcoholism. The root cause of this issue is unknown however, there are several factors which may contribute to the existence of this problem such as, stress and the inability to deal with it, depression, peer pressure among others. People of any sex, age, race, or economic status can experience drug addiction. This issue isn’t always instantly noticed; very often it starts off relatively small. It can begin with simple curiosity or a one time experiment that progresses into addiction. Consuming excessive amounts of drugs and alcohol has long lasting diverse effects on the human body. Some of the short term effects include short term memory loss, and lowered inhibitions; Long term effects include problems coping on the job, at school, permanent damage to internal organs and may cause deterioration in relationship with friends and family. Whilst there is no quick solution to drug abuse and alcoholism, there are ways to mitigate the problem and in some cases prevent the problem from ever happening. Support from family and friends can be of extreme importance in delaying the onset of permanent and long term drug abuse. In Dominica, the need exists for a rehab facility or recovery program that can assist drug and alcohol abusers to regain control of their life.

Another major social issue would be unemployment, and there is no easy or quick fix to this issue. One of the main reasons for unemployment is the current state of the economy. Because of a downfall in the economy over time, trade have been affected, and businesses have been forced to decrease the production of their goods, and in extreme causes cut cuts by laying of employees. Other factors that contribute to unemployment include; unavailability of jobs, performance issues, lack of the appropriate skill set. The consequences of unemployment can be vast, they range from those directly affecting the individual and the family to those that have an impact on the economy as a whole. When someone loses a job it can negatively impact the psyche and may lead to further social issues such drug abuse and alcoholism, violence and sometimes criminal acts such as robbery and theft, which leads to a strain on the relationship with family and friends. Often times, the government is tasked with the responsibility of providing for unemployed citizens through the public assistance programs. As stated earlier there is no quick fix however, the introduction of a National Employment Program (NEP) is a step in the right direction. Individuals should also be encouraged to find a niche and establish themselves as entrepreneurs rather than being dependent on the government or the private sector to provide jobs. Diversifying one's skill set also makes you more attractive to an employer.

There are several issues that affect our society today, and the solution to these issues sometimes are found within the issues themselves. It is clear that the social issues discussed in this essay are barriers to development and progress in any society.

Causes and Effects of the Industrial Revolution

The Industrial Revolution began in Britain during the 18th century and later moved to other countries such as Germany, France, and the United States. This is the time when agricultural societies became more industrialized. Industrial Revolution drastically changed society, because before the Industrial Revolution people were mostly in small rural communities and everything was handmade, life was difficult before the industrial revolution. People had to produce their own food, clothing, furniture, and tools.

When the Industrial Revolution took place machines and factories replaced merchants. Also, transportation, communication and banking became more advanced due to the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution changed the difference between the rich and the poor drastically. The Industrial Revolution made the gap larger because the workers of the factory were barely making enough to support their families and the owner of the factories were getting all the profits. Birth place of industrialization Industrial Revolution evolved in Britain in the 18th century, mass production factories started to take place. Industrial Revolution changed Britain’s society forever because everything had changed. British industries were small workshops, and everything was made by hand before the Industrial Revolution. Britain was dependent on India for cotton however after the Industrial Revolution they can take raw cotton and made the thread themselves. Soon After the Industrial Revolution moved beyond Britain to United States because of a man named Samuel Slater known as the father of the American Industry. According to the article McNeese, T. (2017). “In 1789, 21-year-old Slater was a manager at the Cromford Mill.

That same year, he read an advertisement placed by the Pennsylvania assembly in a local paper in Derby. The ad was a recruiting call for Englishmen who had the skills to build textile-producing machinery, to immigrate to the States. Any such skilled individual was promised a cash reward. At that time, advanced English textile technology was kept under legal lock and key, with laws declaring it illegal for any such individual to immigrate out of Great Britain. Any such textile expert who tried could be imprisoned. Slater was intrigued and enticed by the Pennsylvania legislature's offer. Soon, he began memorizing the mechanics of the mill where he worked, making furtive sketches and drawings at home. Arkwright's ideas were going to America. By September 1789, Slater was on his way to London where he bought his passage on a ship bound for the U.S., putting down on his application for immigrating that he was a 'farm boy” his 'disguise' was simple—he simply donned the clothes of a country farmer. Here was young Slater, taking an alias, smuggling himself out of his native country, to gain advantages for a new life of textile-making in America.” Samuel Slater successfully brought Industry to the United States.

Samuel Slater’s mill was successful and provided labor for children and in America. Americans were leaving their farm and moving to the urban area’s where they would work in factories. United States went from being agrarian society to being Industrialized urban society. Innovation During the Industrial Revolution many things were invented such as telegraph, telephone, steam boats, steam ships and Airplanes. These inventions caused the economy to increase rapidly. Communication became easier because the invention of electrical telegraph and telephone these allowed people communicate from a long distance. The transportation industry had a significant transformation during the Industrial Revolution because of the steam engine, steamboat, and steam ships were invented. These allowed people to travel long distance. Horse-drawn wagon was the main transportation before the Industrial Revolution but after people would travel more efficiently. Quality of life during Industrialization Quality of life improved only for the middle and upper class, when it came to the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution a had a dark side because it brought struggles for the lower-class and the gap between the poor and the rich expanded drastically. The lower class were living in crowed, unsensitized urban communities while the rich owned big anchors of land and mansions. Also, people that owned the factories were making all the profits, while the workers were working long hours for little pay. One of Karl Marx’s capitalism theory is workers getting paid little while capitalists get rich which he calls Primitive Accumulation. Life, T. S. (2014, December 19).

Stated that Karl Marx believe that the capitalist shrunk the wages of laborer’s much as possible in order to skim off a wide profit margin. He called this primitive accumulation. Whereas capitalists see profits as a reward for ingenuity and technological talent, Marx far more damning. Profit is simply theft, and what you are stealing is the talent and hard work of your work force. Marx insisted that at its crudest, capitalism means paying a worker one price for doing something that can be sold for another, much higher price. Profit is a fancy term for exploitation.” The reason why the capitalist had gotten away with such act was because, they knew that people desperately needed job and that they would work even though they would get paid little money. This is the same thing when it came to immigrants during the late 19th century, immigrants were desperate for work and they would work no matter the condition and how they were paid. The book The Jungle explores how an immigrant family who moved to the united states thought that they were going to become rich but end up living in a rat-infested building and working in unsafe factories. Children were digging through the dumb desperately need of food, where the rich would throw away their unwanted food. SINCLAIR, U. (1906). “

To this place there came every day many hundreds of wagon-loads of garbage and trash from the lake-front, where the rich people lived; and in the heaps the children raked for food-there were hunks of bread and potato peeling and apple-core and meat-bones, all of it half frozen and quite unspoiled.” Working conditions The working condition were horrible the book The Jungle shows the character Jurgis, who was working in the meat factory mentions that people would sometimes fall in the vats and they would often get turned into food. The meats were infested with rats, if one of the workers got hurt, they would just get fired instantly. SINCLAIR, U. (1906). “Who worked in tank-rooms full of steam, and in some of which there were open vats near the level of the floor, their peculiar trouble was that they fell into the vats; sometimes they would be overlooked for days, till all but the bones of them had gone out to the world as Durham’s Pure Leaf Lard!” Upton Sinclair demonstrates how the factory owners didn’t care about the working conditions of the workers or how the meat that were being processed were unsensitized but simply all they care about was profit. SINCLAIR, U. (1906).

“Water from leaky roofs would drip over it, and thousands of rats would race about it. It was too dark in these storage places to see well, but a man could run his hand over these piles of meat and sweep off handfuls of the dried dungs rats. These rats were nuisances, and the packers would put poisoned bread out for them; they would die, and then rats, bread, and meat would go into hoppers together and the people who are working wont even bother to lift out a rat when they saw one. Teddy Roosevelt was outraged by seeing how meat were being processed Sinclair was summoned to the White House by Teddy Roosevelt, and on June 30, 1906, the Meat Inspection Act passed. Another dark side that the Industrial Revolution child labor caused was that children would usually be working in the factories instead of going to school because one working family wasn’t enough to support a family because the wages was so low. Children would often get beaten. Allen, R. C. (2017). “The Slater system did not operate exactly in the fashion of English mills, where children were often beaten and abused (Slater did whip his young, orphan workers from time to time, but he also established a Sunday School for the moral training of his young employees), but instead was sanctioned by the young workers' parents who approved of such mills and the work their offspring performed in them. Slater mills became popular in New England, as well as other parts of industrializing America.”

Romeo and Juliet Rhetorical Analysis

Romeo and Juliet: the world's greatest love story, or at least that’s what people think, but with further investigating, come to find that Romeo and Juliet were anything but two star crossed lovers bound to be together. Not only was Romeo still going through the heartbreak of his last so-called loving not reciprocating the same emotion, but was also under constant stress for being so emotional, and being teased by his friends for not “manning up” and getting over his old love Rosaline. At the same time, Juliet was being shoved into a marriage before she had even considered the idea of doing such. With her parents breathing down her back to get married and have kids at her age just as they did, she felt very alone in her thoughts and found that escape in Romeo. With one being highly mentally unstable, and the other just wanting to escape the pressure of the gender expectations and the constant judgmental eyes of her mother and father, the two simply found an escape from the real world together, which sounds like something right out of a romantic movie, if romantic movies were twisted. Romeo and Juliet both had very authoritarian parents, and this mixed in with their own psychological issues really affected their interaction with one another. Psychoanalytic theory and authoritarian parenting styles had an impact on Romeo and Juliet because it convinced them they were in love, causing the world to believe Romeo and Juliet was the “greatest love story” when in all actuality, it was far from it.

First introduced is Romeo as he is in a seemingly deep depression, for his love Rosaline, doesn’t want to be with him. His cousin Benvolio attempts to help, but Romeo just can’t imagine a life without Rosaline. Benvolio cries for him, because he feels sorry for him, but Romeo says “My sadness sits heavy in my chest and you want to add your own sadness to mine so there’s even more.I have too much sadness already, and now you’re going to make me sadder by feeling sorry for you.” One would think that Romeo would rather apologize to Benvolio but rather he got angry with him, showing that he could already be bipolar because his emotions quickly changed from being very depressed to anger over the smallest of things. In a document written by Kristeen Cherney, under a list of common symptoms of bipolar tendencies: the patient will show signs of not only severe irritability and but also mood swings. This doesn’t make Romeo insane in any sense of the word, but does show that his actions and tendencies could be because he is bipolar and shows multiple signs of such. Not only this, but also being in a depression does really make a person drift away from everyone around them, as nothing really feels good anymore, but for Romeo, Juliet was his escape. We see this once he meets Juliet and immediately goes from being depressed to being in love, and completely over Rosaline in seconds. Romeo being bipolar could easily be the cause of his quick jump from one emotion to the other

Next, the character juliet is introduced, who is an independent young 13 year old who hasn’t even thought of marriage, and has no intention on getting married, but her parents have a different idea in mind. Her parents, lady capulet and lord capulet want her to marry a prince, and are determined to make her do so, even if that means disowning her. This shows an authoritarian parenting style because of their refusal to listen to her own opinions or show an interest in her feelings toward the matter. These actions hurt her mental health more than she will show, on purpose at least. Through Juliets quick attachment to a boy, Romeo, who shows her nothing but love and acceptance for any and every decision she makes, it is obvious that Juliet craves independence in her actions, but no longer independence in her romantic life. In act two scene two of No Fear Shakespeare:Romeo and Juliet, Juliet says to Romeo, “I’ll lay all my fortunes at your feet and follow you, my lord, all over the world.” What is so very strange about this, is the fact that Juliet does not just simply say Romeo is her love, but instead, is her lord. This is because her parents raised her to believe that love is not shown through care and affection but is instead shown through control. So, when Romeo shows her this care and affection, she doesn’t recognize it as love in a relationship but instead as a new found lord.In How Parental Conflict Affects Kids, it is said that Those problems negatively impact their romantic relationships in adolescence and adulthood, as conflicts cause children to 'perceive themselves and their social worlds more negatively' and to 'have more negative pictures or internal representations of family relationships.' So, because of her parents not teaching her the meaning of true love nor did they show it, Juliet could not differentiate between love and worship, nor could she really understand what a good relationship was. So, when she found Romeo, she was very new to the aspect of true love and what it was, making it easy for her to perceive her relationship with Romeo as love. Because of Juliet’s parents’ parenting style, Romeo and Juliets relationship was very affected in the aspect of understanding love.

It is quickly observed that Romeo is very mentally unstable, and it is also quickly observed how easily Romeo moves on from Rosaline and on to Juliet. This is also easily seen my his priest named Friar Lawrence, who after discovering that Romeo not only has a crush on Juliet but intends on proposing to her says “Holy Saint Francis this is a drastic change! Have you given up so quickly on Rosaline whom you loved so much?” Friar Lawrence is completely and utterly baffled by Romeos quick change of heart from Rosaline to Juliet, after the many times claiming to not be able to imagine a life without his love. Romeo is quick to defend his actions claiming that the Friar was never supportive of Romeo’s affection to Rosaline. This quick definitive tone is also proof of guilt. As read in an article by one Susan Krauss Whitbourne called 5 Reasons Why We Play The Blame Game, it is stated that “blame is an excellent defense mechanism. Whether you call it projection, denial, or displacement, blame helps you preserve your sense of self-esteem by avoiding awareness of your own flaws or failings.” Romeo’s definitive tone on his actions and placement of blame on Friar Lawrence could be because he already has a low self esteem, and doesn’t want to lower it farther by accepting his faults. This also connects to a separate document, 4 Types of Parenting Styles and Their Effects on Kids: What’s Your Parenting Style? by Amy Morin , it says “Kids who grow up with permissive parents tend to struggle academically. They may exhibit more behavioral problems as they don’t appreciate authority and rules. They often have low self-esteem and may report a lot of sadness.” It is not known how Romeo acts in school, but is certainly shown that he has low self esteem because of how he does not want to admit how odd it is how quickly he fell out of love with Rosaline and in love with Juliet. It is also shown that he doesn’t appreciate authority and rules as he shows disrespect towards Friar Lawrence when called out on his odd mood change. All of this shows how mentally unwell Romeo was, because of his low self esteem and has very permissive parents which affected his overall personality and played a role in his relationship with Juliet.

Juliet was not only highly affected by her parents, but on her own was a very stubborn child who was very dead set on only her opinions and emotions mattering above anyone else. This could very likely could be because of her parents disregard of her opinions and feelings, which could easily be a learned trait, but could also very likely be because she was just simply bipolar. Now, Juliets selfishness at most times isn’t the only reason for this theory of her being bipolar, but also because of how she very quickly changed her seemingly determined plan to stay single, and be her own woman without a man needed, to being in absolute love and wanting to marry him to follow him anywhere. In almost every conversation with not only her mother but also her caretaker, simply known as the nurse, who has acted as her mother since Juliet was born, Juliet makes it clear that she has no intent on getting married, and has no desire to find a love to marry. For example, in Act one Scene Three of No Fear Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet, Lady Capulet, Juliets mother, asks what is Juliets attitude toward marriage is, in which Juliet simply responds, “It is an honor that I do not dream of.” and when offered the chance to marry a prince, states “I’ll look at him and try to like him, at least if what I see is like able. But I won’t let myself fall for him any more than your permission allows.” What she is essentially saying is, she will meet this prince, but only because she is being told to, and doesn’t like him. She makes this very clear, but once she meets Romeo, her attitude completely changes. Juliet is quick to call Romeo her lord, and wants to marry him almost immediately. While the normal person would at least take months to get to know a person and get a connection if not take a year to do so, a person who suffers from being bipolar could make this rash decision in the heat of the moment. Her suffering from being bipolar would highly affect her relationship with Romeo for if she wasn’t, she most likely would not have been so quick to want to marry him.

All of this information known, one could also assume that Romeo and Juliet could have simply just been too young to know what love was, and weren’t affected by their parents or own mental illness. This could be true, but there is too much evidence that shows just how much their parents’ little disregard of their thoughts and feelings affected both Romeo and Juliet on many different levels. This made them quickly attach to each other as a way to escape from the constant stress they were under, and also to take their mind off of the pain they were in because of their parents. Both Romeo and Juliet did not have a good relationship with their parents, and showed multiple signs of being bipolar, so these two things in common could have unknowingly brought them both together very quickly. As Romeo found the love and affection not received by Rosaline in Juliet and as Juliet found the type of listener and lover she didn’t know she needed in Romeo, they fell in love and were determined to be together. They both got what they wanted out of one another, and because they never got the chance to really know each other nor did they have time to really see their relationship bloom, they believed that they were just meant for each other, and wanted to marry. In an article by Sylvia Smith called 8 ways to tell if it’s love or lust it is stated that “Lust persuades you to say what the other person wants to hear” and Romeo most certainly always says what Juliet wants to hear, but this is because he knew what to say to make her want to be with him , like by calling her cute nicknames and such further hinting at him being bipolar, because he once wanted Rosaline so deeply now wants Juliet. Juliet believed that love was shown through control rather than care and affection, which made her attach to Romeo as he gave her what she was never given. Romeo got the love and attention he never got from his parents and ex love Rosaline in Juliet which made him attach to Juliet. All of this together has nothing to do with age, but simply their parents fault for not giving them the love they needed and their oblivion to their own mental battles.

All in all, psychoanalytic theory and authoritarian parenting styles had an impact on Romeo and Juliet because it convinced them they were in love, causing the world to believe it was the “greatest love story” when in all actuality it was far from it. Romeo wanted to find love, and Juliet wanted an escape from her parents, which they found in one another, and made the believe they were in love. Juliets parents wanted nothing for Juliet but to find a man to marry and have kids, and Romeos parents had no regard for his actions. Both Romeo and Juliet had a bad relationship with their parents and got what they needed in one another. More than this, both showed multiple signs of being bipolar and suffering with mental illness, which gives reason for their unthoughtful actions and want to be married so quickly. Romeo and Juliet both had to deal with unhealthy parents and an unhealthy state of mind that led them to believe they were in love.

“Outliers” (argument Essay)

In the book Outliers, written by Malcolm Gladwell, he defines an outlier as someone who does something out of the ordinary or differently. Gladwell stands on the point that people don't rise from nothing. Gladwell also states that it makes a difference where and when we grew up. Gladwell is a very knowledgeable person and gives valuable information that people could use in their daily life. Everyone who reads this book will gain some valuable knowledge. This book is intended for pretty much everyone, Gladwell made sure to gives lots of good examples but he also gives a variety of examples to suits everyone's likes so this book can intrigue as many people as possible. Throughout the book, Gladwell uses logos and pathos to engage and pursue the reader, in many different ways.

Immediately the reader gets interested when Gladwell talks about the Memorial Cup Hockey game in Vancouver British Columbia. People don't know what obstacles people had to go through to become successful but what people do know is that people who have birthdays at the beginning of the year have a leg up on people who have a birthday at the end of the year. This person named Barnsley attended a Lethbridge Broncos hockey game in southern Alberta. As Barnsley was reading the player roster, he noticed that the majority of the players birthdays fell in the first few months of the year. He, later on, went online and researched famous hockey players birthdays and yet again their birthdays fell at the beginning of the year. “The explanation for this is quite simple... Canada’s cut-off date is January 1st. A boy who turns ten on January 2, then, could be playing alongside someone who doesn't turn ten until the end of the year—and at that age, in preadolescence, a twelve month gap in age represents an enormous difference in physical maturity. “(Gladwell 24). Gladwell whips out logos here because yes logically this all makes sense of why more hockey players have birthdays January-March. Gladwell didn't stop here he also looked at the player roster for European soccer and noticed the same exact results (27). 14 out of the 21 players on the team are born between the month of January-March. This isn't fair necessarily because what if someone was born in September but undoubtedly good at hockey they wouldn't get a fair chance just knowing they have a September birthday, instead of a January or March birthday.

The next use of logos is the “10,000 hour rule”. The rule states that extraordinary achievements require 10,000 hours of practice. Gladwell gives the example of “The Beatles” and “Mozart”, he also states that people that put in 10,000 hours have to have some kind of extraordinary opportunity that gives them a chance to put in those hours. Gladwell also talks about this person named Bill Joy. Joy came to the University of Michigan the year the computer center opened. Joy was super smart and voted most Studious Student . Joy was super shy but had a brain like no other. He also grew up with not a lot of money. “Add in the summers, then the days and nights in his first year at Berkeley. 'So, so maybe... ten thousand hours?' he said, finally. 'That's about right” (Gladwell 47). Joy didn't take long to reach his 10,000 hours mainly because he had the drive to work on computer programming and he was super smart and liked working with computers. “If we put the stories of hockey players and the Beatles and Bill Joy and Bill Gates together, I think we get a more complete picture of the path to success” (Gladwell 55). Gladwell wants us to trust him with what he's saying, he uses logos to convince us of what he's saying is credible. On many occasions, Gladwell refers to different sociologist, psychologists, and economist. Another example Gladwell gives is “To build a better world we need to replace the patchwork of lucky breaks and arbitrary advantages that today determine success—the fortunate birth dates and the happy accidents of history—with a society that provides opportunities for all” (Gladwell 268). Gladwell uses logos to persuade the readers to believe him of what's he saying. Everyone wants to know that what someone is saying is legit and showing that someone with a high profession said something will instantly make readers think what Gladewell is saying is true.

Pathos, a quality that evokes emotion. Emotions don't always have to be a sad thing, in fact, it could be something to be excited about. “The air was filled with cigar smoke and the smell of champagne and sweat-soaked hockey gear.” (Gladwell 16). As the reader seeing the word champagne makes people feel excited and happy like they are celebrating the hockey winnings. Pathos can also be sad, another example that Gladwell uses was when he was talking about Chris Langan. Chris Langan was the oldest. His father disappeared before Chris was born. His second stepdad was murdered. His next step dad committed suicide. Chris was also poor. They didn't have matching socks. Their shoes had holes in them. They only had one set of clothes. This book is about success, how could some want to be successful after such a sad start to life? Gladwell said, “People don't rise from nothing.”(19). Gladwell uses this statement throughout the whole book, and he's right you can’t rise from nothing you have to have some money, status, drive to become successful. You can't just lay on the couch and wish for success you have to do something about it to become successful. Then how did Chris Langan become so successful with being poor and having nothing. Well Chris Langan's IQ score was 195 that thirty percent higher than Albert Einstein’s. Chris is considered a celebrity outlier. He was invited onto games shows, interviews for magazines, and even been the subject of a documentary. This is an amazing story of someone who grew up poor and became super successful just by being smart. All of these flaws in his life worked up to something very good and successful for Chris who has been through so much in his life. Another pathos example that Gladwell uses is “A year after MacMillan published his book, a wave of riots and unrest swept the Caribbean. Fourteen people were killed and fifty-nine injured in Trinidad. Fourteen were killed and forty-seven injured in Barbados”( Gladwell 273). Gladwell uses pathos by referring to the riots, when innocent people die in either a book or movie people get more intrigued on what's going on just because as humans we have that emotional side.

One part in this book that really grabbed me was when Gladwell said this “We all know that successful people come from hardy seeds. But do we know enough about the sunlight that warmed them, the soil in which they put down the roots, and the rabbits and lumberjacks they were lucky enough to avoid?” (20). Joy and Chris are perfect examples of this quote. We don't always know what obstacles people go through to be successful, we don't know if they've had four different step dads because all the rest of them died in harsh ways. We don't know if they only had one outfit to wear or if they were poor. Unless someone tell use their story of becoming successful all we know is that they are successful.

Outliers are the most talented, famous, smartest, and best people. Throughout the book Gladwell gave us evidence to persuade us that he is right when it comes to what makes someone success. If people understand rhetoric they will get how the author is using logos to persuade the reader to think that they are right, or how to use ethos to make the reader feel emotional.
