“Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid (Analysis Essay)

In Jamaica Kincaid’s “Girl” the author uses rhetorical questions and authoritative tone to show the expectations of the women throughout history can be reflected upon now as degrading through the feminist’s lens. Taking place in postcolonial Caribbean society, men were dominant over women. The mother is setting rules for her daughter to follow to ensure she has impeccable manners to attain a proper husband and climb the social hierarchy. These traditions had a big impact on enforced gender roles in society. At this time, the role of the women was to stay home, cook, clean and raise children. Doing things like owning property, working, and voting were viewed as wrong for women.

The demands set in place by the mother farther enforce the gender roles, still prevalent in today’s society. At this point and time in history women’s rights were virtually nonexistent. It was imperative in that society that women make good for themselves and marry a good husband because without one, they would not get very far in life. Cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, and other regular household chores are nowadays often shared duties. Working, providing for the family and more “masculine duties” are also shared, but still women are subject to unequal payment and poor treatment. Even today, women are expected to fall into the “house wife” stereotype. Although it is more common now for women to work or choose not to get married or have kids—it is a common belief that women are supposed to do all of these things. It is a popular belief that women are meant to have children and if they don’t they are not fulfilling their “womanly duties”. Kincaid states, “this is how you iron your father’s khaki shirt so that it doesn’t have a crease; this is how you iron your father’s khaki pants so that they don’t have a crease” (115). This is a prime example of how she is taught from a young age how to care for her husband, or now father, properly. How they dress is a direct reflection of their wife’s house making skills. If their pants are not ironed properly it is not the man’s fault because their wife should know better. It is a wife’s responsibility to uphold not only a pristine reputation for herself but for her husband too. It is an absurd concept to think a man does not know how to iron his own shirt, however, it is seen as the woman’s responsibility as a good wife to make sure her husband looks as best as possible.

Women, like the one in the story, are taught that a woman’s reputation and respectability directly determine the quality of their lives. The mother suggests that domestic knowledge will lead to respect from family and society. Everything the daughter needs to know about concealing sexuality and regular household duties is clearly outlined. If the daughter were to step out of these guidelines she would immediately be less respected. Household work in this case, keeps the women busy and away from temptation. Men, however, do not receive the same treatment. Men are free to live their lives how they please and women are taught to have their world revolve around one man, and one man only. The men go to work and come home, all that is needed to be a respectable member of society. Women have many more responsibilities and are judged much harder on every little detail of their lives. If a man was to sleep around, he would not be judged for it. However, if a woman has more than one sexual partner she is considered a “slut”. The mother reiterated many times a chore, like hemming a dress, followed by the words, “--to prevent yourself from looking like the slut I know you are so bent on becoming” (115). Seeming to suggest that even the smallest difference in how the girl dresses or walks could easily make someone view her as a slut. Her mother seems to worry that if she continues her life the way she has been living it will lead to a life of promiscuity. The mother seems to believe there are two types of women: respectable women and sluts. It appears the only way to gain respect is from withholding from sexual encounters and preforming household duties. Slut-shaming is still prevalent today, now more than ever. It is still commonly seen that a man can have many sexual partners and be held on a high pedestal, but if a woman were to do the same it is frowned upon and they are shunned for it. Women are held to much higher standards than men, for some unknown reason. Men are seemingly born with a God-given right to be respected and be treated like the superior sex. Although society has been making great strides towards changing this, it is an idea that may never change.

Gender inequality is an important idea to this story and the meaning behind it. Imagine the roles were reversed and all being said, was being told to a young boy. The absurdity behind that idea helps readers understand the point Kincaid is trying to make. Women in post Caribbean culture are supposed to be proper, modest, and pure the mother is attempting to keep her daughter’s sexuality under tight lock and key to prevent her from being anything less. This is an idea that is still seen today. The mother tells the daughter to “don’t squat down to play marbles—you are not a boy you know” (Kincaid 115). The mother is essentially teaching her that men are allowed to do many things that females are not allowed to do. If she were to squat down she would be criticized for not being lady-like and proper.

From a psychological standpoint, being forced into this discrimination can be threatening to the woman. The stressors that women face as a result of bias, stereotyping, oppression, and discrimination can be particularly threatening especially when exposed at such a young age. Men are not shown such threats while growing up ultimately giving them more power throughout life. Women are taught to sit still and act pretty and be everything a man wants. When it comes to sexual relationships, daily life, career path, inequality, and more, women are taught that options are limited. It is clear that opportunities are much less available for women than men. As unfair as that sounds, it is a challenge that has been faced for decades and may never go away. Women are conditioned to believe they are the lesser gender and to accept it and act accordingly. “this is how a man bullies you; this is how to love a man” (Kincaid 115). This lends to the idea that women are expected to take whatever harsh treatment they are given and taught to believe they deserve it. We are taught to accept we are, and always will be lesser, and are not as deserving as respect. Respect your husband and love him no matter what. Be the supportive wife you were raised to be and nothing less.

In conclusion, Kincaid’s story highlights many issues related to gender inequality, stereotypes, slut-shaming, etc. all of which are still relevant in todays society. Looking at this through a feminist lens there are many critiques to be made about life during this time. Although since this time period many changes have been made in an effort to move in the right direction, many people today are still stuck in the mindset that women are lesser than men. It is almost a programed belief in both genders to see males as superior in nearly every aspect of life. Women have to work much harder to get the jobs they want; yet are qualified for. Men do not face the same prejudice and discrimination when it comes to domestic relationships and responsibilities.

Giving Advice to a Friend

If I could advice to anyone, I would give it to Demi Lovato. Demi had made choices that changed her life completely. Demi started her acting career at a young age, which could of caused stress. The advice I would give to Demi is to think of the consequences before doing drugs.Demi overdosed a couple times and had to go to rehab for months.

Demi started her acting career at a very young age,she would go to meetings to be in shows or movies and never made it. After one meeting Demi got her first job. In 2002, Demi was casted in “Barney and Friends” as Angela. In 2007, Demi starred in “Camp Rock” as Mitchie Torres. Most people believe the Demi is a bad person for her drug use but, demi is not a bad person. ¨With all of her professional accomplishments ,Lovato remains devoted to giving back.By talking openly about her personal experiences, she has become a role model for many ,speaking out against bullying among other issues.¨ Demi has helped multiple organizations like,”Red Cross”, “St.Jude Children's Research Hospital, “STOMP Out Bullying”, and many more.  Demi has gone to St Jude Children? Hospital to see the kids and experience their lives. She has also sang at fundraisers that supported different causes.

Demi lovato is a twenty- six year old with a lot of problems. Her first major overdose was when she turned eighteen years old. Demi was sober for six years and currently, after her recent overdose, she has been sober for six months, with the help of the rehab she went to. Her recent overdose was just last year, she was twenty six at time. The advice I would give Demi would be to not do drugs, drugs had controlled her life. Demi missed out on a lot of things. She could’ve wrote so many songs or celebrate with friends and family. Demi also missed many opportunities in making her career a bigger success. Although Demi has missed opportunities, she has also made huge changes to her life. In the past, Demi has always went back to the one thing that hasn't gave up on her, drugs. Even though she worked hard to stop drugs, it's hard to stop. She has relapsed when she felt lonely or not good enough. “Neurotransmitters- too many, too few, or simply the wrong ones- may be the cause of conditions such as depression or anxiety .”  She isn’t a bad person for wanting to be okay or feel okay with herself. She isn't a bad person for doing the drugs, she just makes bad choices.

Best Advice for XXXTentacion

Imagine giving advice to somebody and how their life would change. I’m going to be giving advice to Jahseh Onfroy. I would give him advice to not go out and buy a motorcycle on June 18, 2018. This advice could’ve changed his life and everyone else’s around him.

To start off with, you will need to know who Jahseh Onfroy is. Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy, or better known as XXXTentacion was an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. Growing up he lived near Plantation, Florida . Onfroy was twenty years old when he passed away. He also has changed many people’s lives by inspiration through his music. XXXTentacion began rapping on Soundcloud but then expanded to other platforms. He started his music career in 2013 after his song release “Flock”. Onfroy spent lots of time in a juvenile detention center when he was younger, but also spent some time in jail later in life. Onfroy had a rough childhood so it wasn’t always easy at home for him.“He spent the majority of his childhood in Pompano Beach, Florida being raised by his grandmother.”

What advice may I give to Jahseh Onfroy, might be the question. On June 18, 2018 Onfroy got shot in an armed robbery which caused him to pass away. If I could’ve gave Jahseh Onfroy any advice, I would’ve told him to not go to the motorcycle dealership. If Onfroy truly needed to go to the dealership, then I would’ve told him to have some body guards at all times knowing he’s a celebrity. “Florida also has one of the highest crime rates in the nation.”  “There were three hundred seven mass shootings in 2018.” “About thirteen thousand people are killed each year.” Knowing this, he should’ve had at least some protection beings he’s a celebrity.

Being so, if Onfroy could’ve taken my advice it would of changed his whole life. He might not have gotten shot if he didn’t go to the motorcycle dealership and would’ve gotten a longer happier life to live with his son and girlfriend. After his death, many people have been inspired by his music and are achieving their goals by using his advice. If he didn’t die, then this might not of happened. There are many good inspirational things that have happened after his death, therefore there were some bad things that happened. Some include fans being depressed of his death and his family living in sorrow. Over all, my advice could of saved Jahseh Onfroy’s life and people’s around him.

In conclusion, imagine advice being given to somebody you know. That advice could truly change their life. I gave Jahseh Onfroy advice and surely enough it could’ve changed his life. Life is full of challenges but you have to get past those and move on. Do you think Jahseh Onfroy would take my advice?

“Crime and Punishment” (utilitarianism)

In Fyodor Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, the subject of duality and the contention between close to home wants and ethics is available all through a great part of the novel. There are double clashes of external between a frustrated individual and his reality, and the other internal between a disconnected soul and his internal contemplations. It is the inside clash in the principle character, Raskolnikov, that is the centered around for a significant part of the novel. The first of Rodka's (Raskolnikov) opposite sides is his scholarly side. This side of Rodka is harsh and displaying outrageous self-will and control. This is the side of him that surfaces with his hypothesis. The wrongdoing was a consequence of his hypothesis that a few people have uncommon capacities while others have no capacity. It's this scholarly side of him that made him imagine and execute his homicide. Through the writer’s utilization of setting tone, phrasing, and inference, the reader begins to comprehend what sort of character, Rodka is.

The activities in the novel that were bizarre and amusing they are fairly the after-effects of the two parts of Rodka’s identity. When he declines to give Dunya a chance to wed Luzhin and afterward a couple of minutes after the fact he advises her to wed whomever she satisfies, this adjustment in supposition is a case of Rodka’s human side not needing his sister to forfeit herself to encourage him, and afterward the scholarly side battling that he should not worry about irrelevant issues of others when he is experiencing his own concern.

All through the book, he always wants to admit, notwithstanding when visiting the police headquarters. 'I'll go in, fall on my knees, and admit everything', he thought; later, he considered on the off chance that it was 'smarter to push off the weight without considering.” When he admitted to Sonia, he felt as though 'he should not lose one more moment.” After he requests that Sonia excuse him, she instructs him to approach God for pardoning.

The duality of characters in the book was restricted to Rodka, as well as to his closest companion Razumihin. Razumihin is enchanting, sweet, and adoring, he is in charge of a significant part of the entertainment in the novel. Razumihin is genuinely unfaltering in the first place yet becomes much more so through the span of the novel. Like Raskolnikov, he dropped out of school, yet he was bringing home the bacon doing interpretation for books. The beginning of Razumihin change happens when he sees his tanked side and how he yelled 'louder than at any other time' at dounia and the mother.

The title of the book was an awesome foresight of the book. In the book, we the reader don't anticipate that Rodka will really follow up on his crime, only until the point that his fantasy of the steed being butchered by master. The Ax that was utilized in the homicide of the horse, was a definitive weapon used to murder the pawnbroker. Crime and punishment go well together, and it was relatively similar to a foreshadowing of Sonia’s and Rodka future relationship they would create. It implies a process that we've expected: we do something terrible; we get in trouble. Discipline follows crime. Crime comes before punishment.

The points of view throughout the book, give different characters a chance to tell their story. the perspective of Raskolnikov was mostly journeyed through, but the narrator took it where it wanted to. This includes the minds of Luzhin, Semyonovitch, Razumihin, and Katerina. The narrator also has thoughts and opinions of its own from time to time. This narrative structure can seem extreme. There are lots of internal dialogues and monologues, and it's sometimes hard to tell whether Raskolnikov is talking out loud or just thinking. This is especially true of those long paragraphs Dostoevsky does a lot of.

Raskolnikov's article, 'On Crime,' is vital to the understanding of his beliefs. This article also has a profound effect on Crime and Punishment as a whole, the subject matter being one of the main themes of the novel. Within the article Raskolnikov analyzes the psychology of a criminal before and after the crime. Raskolnikov appears resentful, but never argues about what Porfiry tells him. In the last meeting of the two men, Porfiry admits that he liked the article very much, and actually felt a connection with it. The one part of the main body of the article that is mentioned is 'that the perpetration of a crime is always accompanied by illness' .

Internet and Society

Introduction

The internet is a very big part of living in today's times. It also makes sense why it is, it is really easy to access for most parts of the world, all you really need need is a computer. Also there is close to limitless information is stored of the internet, this makes people's opportunities and knowledge close to limitless as well with the help of the internet. My essay will be answering these prompts: How is the Internet making a “Global Impact” on society, how does the Internet vary from country to country, the history of the Internet, thoughts about controversies of the Internet throughout history, and where data scientists, theorists, and yourself thinks the Internet is headed into the future.

How is the Internet making a “Global Impact” on society?

The risk of isolation, alienation, and withdrawal from society is usually the risks that you hear about the internet that the media reports. However the internet does not do either of those things. The internet ‘actually increases sociability, civic engagement, and the intensity of family and friendship relationships, in all cultures,” according to Manuel Castells of technologyreview.com. Manuel Castells believes that due to the “Digital Revolution”, the world with internet is now forming “Me-centered society,” this means that people are now focusing on on individual growth. This will cause a decline in the community “understood in terms of space, work, family, and ascription in general,”(Castells 3). However Manuel presumes that this isn't a bad thing that will lead to a crumble in communities and relationships. He states that this change in our community by the internet will make people focus on “individual interests, values, and projects,”(Castells 3). One piece of evidence of this currently happening is the increase of internet users on social networking sites instead of emails. Social networking users passed email users around July 2009, and time spent of social networking sites surpassed time spent of emails around November 2007. One other instance where the internet changes our community not for the worse is if you want to hangout with a friend, but you’re too lazy to get out of your bed. Now you can just video call each other, it would barely take any time to set up and it’s practically like hanging out and talking in real life. This can save you the hassle of getting up and finding a place to meet and the travel time to get there for the both of you. Overall our relationships, values, interests, and community won’t really change due to the digital revolution, it will just cause people to become more individualized.

How does the Internet vary from country to country?

Available access to the internet is more prominent in countries with advanced economies. According to pewglobal.org The US is the leading country with the most usage of the internet with a regional median of 89% of the adult population at least occasionally using it, it also counts adults who report owning a smartphone. It is 80% for Europe, 72% for the Middle East, 64% in latin America, 58% for Asia/Pacific, and Africa at 25%. There are about 30 more countries listed of the site, but it would take forever to list all of them. Overall with all the other countries the global median is 67%. As you can see about 33% of the world still doesn't have access have access to the internet. Even though internet availability is lower in less economically developed countries, it still will continue to grow over the next decades.

History of the Internet

The US military and scientists were concerned about an event where telephone systems are damaged by a soviet attack. They feared that if it is damaged it would destroy their method of long distance communication. According to history.com in 1962 “named J.C.R. Licklider proposed a solution to this problem: a “galactic network” of computers that could talk to one another,”(History.com editors 4). This will allow long distance communication even if the telephone systems were destroyed. In 1965 a different scientist from M.I.T developed a way of how to send information through computers. The method was called “packet switching”. The method broke data into blocks (packets) and then sending it to a destination. In 1969 ARPA developed another method of transferring data; the method was called “node to node” it allowed computers to communicate with one another. 4 computers were connected by 1969. In 70 to 73 they added The University of Hawaii's ALOHAnet, London’s University College and the Royal Radar Establishment in Norway.

Then around the end of the 70's a man named Vinton Cerf created a way for all of the computers of all the worlds mini-networks to communicate with one another. However the internet was changed again in 1991 by another man named Tim Berners-Lee he created a way for the web to be able to store and view information instead of it just being a place for sending and receiving files. He was the man that provided the main piece that created the internet today, this wouldn't have been possible with all the other people who developed the early stages.

How the internet is headed in the future

I believe we have reached our peak in technology which includes the internet. However some people think we are not, and have predictions of how the internet will affect and change our lives in the future. According to dospeedtest.com 3 big predictions will come to pass for how the internet will change from now to the future. The first is that There will be over 5,000,000,000 internet users by 2020. Our current population is a little bit over 7 billion so 5 billion people using the internet is very shocking. A second prediction is that everything we do of the internet will be stored in the cloud. This year the cloud has generated over 45 billion dollars in revenue this year, and it will continue to expand because of it’s benefit of being able to save and re access everything you do of the internet. The last prediction is that the internet will become more eco-friendly. In other words internet companies such as Xfinity, AT&T, and more will start to get power from a more renewable energy source. Those the 3 big predictions for the internet of tomorrow.

Conclusion

The internet is a very big part of living today. It has shaped our society, communities, relationships, and ourselves, Not for the worse but for the better. The internet will continue to shape people today by allowing us to put more individual values in front of us. The internet started from a small seed and was planted in the roots of society now it has grown to a tree and it will continue to grow throughout the next years, decades, or centuries.

Personal Athletic Trainer

We are living in a time where people are making money doing things they enjoy doing, people are working from home or even going to school from home. A main job that is growing is personal trainers. When you hear “personal trainer” people think of strong muscular females and males but in reality a lot of time this is not the case. A personal trainer is a person who was thought how the body is to function properly and what it takes to stay healthy. There are many types of personal trainers, there are people who want to work with just individual people on a one on one bases and there are people who want to work with large amounts of people. Before you even become a personal trainer you must be able to pass a test or tests showing you are able to be a personal trainer, it all depends on what level and who you want to train.

When you are just starting to think about becoming a personal trainer it is kinda hard to know what route you want to take to become a personal trainer there are many ways. The four best ways to make narrow down your search is to know which one of these four certification are you most interested in.

1.National accreditation

2.Scope of practice

3.Industry reputation

4.Personal training specialty

When looking for a job as personal trainer most places will ask what kind of certification you received to see if you are able to work with their clients and make sure that the client is happy. All of the certification are good it just depends on where do you want to work, for example Golds GYM hires personal trainers that are Personal training specialty, which is a good job you could make enough to live off of if you worked enough hours, but a jail or army facility would hire someone who has a Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitator® (TSCA-F®) which the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) provides and you could be living a better life. Yes the Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitator® (TSCA-F®) takes a long time to get and it will be hard to find a job. Finding jobs as a personal trainer is going to be the hardest part of becoming a personal trainer although it will be worth it.

The average personal trainer can make from 8-15 dollars a our it all depends the gym you are working at and the amount of years you have been working as a personal trainer. “On average full time personal trainers make about $50,000/year with potential to make upwards of $130,000/year.” as stated on (Bolt Fitness, How much do personal trainer make?). With that said if you become a personal trainer that's not necessarily the amount you will make you could make less or you could make more it also depends on how you train someone some people like more one on one and the others like when the trainer gives you a program and they follow the program. Becoming a personal trainer is not about making money ( of course you will make money) but it is about helping other reach their goals, for some people that goal will just be a heaty life still eating good and getting enough exercise to stay healthy. Others will be looking more for a more aesthetic body better known as a “beach body”. The 3rd most frequent customer of personal trainer a strong-man and power lifters they like lifting more weight not to worry about how they look as long as they are lifting heavy weight. It doesn't matter what customers you get it matters if you can help the reach their goals and make them happy with their results and the work they put in,

Becoming a personal trainer is not always cheap especially if you decide to go to college before taking the personal training test to become a personal trainer. Which means you will have to go and pay for college then pay for the tests. If you decide not to go to college you can still take the test but it will take a lot more studying and dedication. taking any of the test can range from 300-500 dollars it depends on what test you take and it also depends on if you are a member of the association already or not. You can take the test as many times as you need to pass but because of the price you are better off studying very hard and passing it the first time. There are many are many jobs that will ask you how many times it took you to pass the test. There are many ways to study for the tests, the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS) make a study book that you and purchase to study for the exam. The study book is not that much it is 50 dollars for a hard copy. That you can also use to study for the other test if you decide to continue with your your career as a personal trainer. If you are not willing to spend a little bit of money and a lot of time and dedication.

When i was younger i didn't think i would be wanting to be a personal trainer i never wanted to go to exercise or go to the gym when i was younger now i never want to leave the gym at night. As you grow older you start to realize what you want to do with your life and hat you want to study and work as. This project has helped me figure out what i want to do with my life and what i want to study. I know we are just graduating right now and we might change our minds on what we want to do in the future. I am 98% sure this is what i want my future to be helping people reach their goals and live a healthy life. This project has helped me know what steps to take to make my dreams become reality.

“Freedom Writers” (Summary Essay)

So many people believed that the film Freedom Writers was a waste of time and wasn’t as interesting as it may have seemed. The movie gives you an overview on gang affiliation and violence, being neglected, poverty and adversity, diversity, faith, love and change. There’s so much to learn from this film that it even ties in with real events based on a true story. Many people did not get what the film was actually trying to justify in regards to the real world, but this essay is to discuss some archetypes (repeatedly description components such as circumstances, personality, and signs that emerge in tales across cultures that speak to worldwide human experiences) that look to clarify the films meaning and purpose.

Starting with The Villain. The villain is a person who gives trouble or difficulty, as principal Margaret Campbell played this role while she gave a demeanor towards the teacher Mrs.Gruwell (or Mrs.G). The principal was not only the villain, but also the static character. Due to her not changing and acting the same way with a prejudice mind caused her to resemble the static character archetype. Mr.Gelford also played this role just as well as the principal, for both of them did not want to see her do great and accomplish what she had in store for her class. In this situation, since the villain always has to have a main target, Mrs.G plays the hero. She overcomes any obstacles that gets thrown at her and find ways to still help the children in their rough lives or need of matter. Although she tries to be a Good Samaritan, her peers still try to bring her down. In a way, this is like Jesus when he went around trying to help everyone by spreading the good news, but was cursed, hated and crucified for his actions. Another possible hero can also be the lady who was Department Head. When Mrs.G tried to fight to get her class again for Junior and Senior year, the principal and Mr.Gelford tried to convince the Department Head that she would not be fit since Mr.Gelford taught higher classed kids and she didn’t. Though the principal and Mr.Gelford seemed pleased at their argument they thought might get her to not have the position for her class, the Department Head made her decision and let Mrs.G teach her class until they graduated. So now that makes her hero of the day! Moving forward, the archetypes mentor and caregiver is well presented by Mrs.G and Miep Gies, role models we need in today’s generation. When Mrs.G really started getting attached to her students after days of hard work and dedication teaching them the lesson of life, she finds herself making trips for them, seeing and talking to special people, and even takes them home as she quotes here getting home to her husband “Sorry, it got late. I drove the kids home. I didn’t want them taking buses,” not knowing that would put her in the middle of a divorce and sacrificing her marriage. As for Miep Gies, she plays a very special part on being a mentor (an experienced and trusted advisor). She was a holocaust survivor that was invited by Mrs.G through letters the students wrote. She told them her story, how it was like living through that experience and gave them words of wisdom on how they are their own heroes. You can say she imparted wisdom giving them something that impacted them for the rest of their lives. Although throughout the film it shows the kids lifestyle, the setting was mostly in the classroom. The classroom represents unity and diversity. Of course, they just didn’t start out liking and communicating towards one another. They originally hated each other; gang vs gang and origin vs origin. It took them months, probably years to finally interact together as one which symbolizes unity. The students realized they all had something in common, no one was different, and that theirs no race that’s more superior that another ethnicity. As they realize this, they see diversity from their Asian, Cambodian, African-American, Caucasian, and Puerto Rican(Dominican) coequals. There’s still so much racism going on in this world that the film could possibly help people to better see each other as one, in harmony, no division. The class better represents the Character Arc archetype (as well as Marcus’s mom by having a change of heart to let him live with her again after his apology). They accomplished this by changing, bettering themselves, coming to sense that they can be finer then what anybody tells them or how they will be viewed. They changed their lives with the help of Mrs.Erin Gruwell, giving themselves the ability to recreate their future, and puts them in a place where they can call themselves the Freedom Writers.

Though people did not understand what the film was trying to vindicate in view to the physical world, this essay was to analyze some archetypes that looked to explain the films sense and intentions.

Essay about Film ‘Freedom Writers’

Socioeconomic factors play an important role in molding the attitudes of students within a learning environment. Primarily, the students’ perceptions regarding their social context drive the plotline of the film. Evidently, their view of education in relation to their social conditions skews towards hopelessness. They are indifferent to the concept of learning because they originate from a less-advantaged social setting, which does not provide any hope for a better future. The socioeconomic hardships experienced by the students within their neighborhood are responsible for their negligence and aggression towards each other, their educators, the institution, and the system of schooling. Due to this socially disadvantaged background, they hold that they have inadequate chances and resources to better themselves (Jeanquart-Barone 481) since their learning environment does not provide either the facilitation or freedom to develop. Besides, as part of the minority population, the students merge these challenges with racially charged problems that they encounter on a daily basis.

Initially, everyone in the film recognizes the futility of the situation and disregards the ability of the official syllabus to transform the students’ status quo. Therefore, Erin Gruwell’s decision to shift the mode of teaching validates the despairing socioeconomic standpoint upheld by the students. Upon her arrival, Gruwell does not understand the students’ socioeconomic context; she follows the traditional mode of teaching that prioritizes the facilitator. Nonetheless, this path is unproductive in her quest to enlighten the students; hence, she changes it: “Gruwell's revolutionary pedagogy begins when she refuses to mechanically follow the prescribed curriculum. This decision fits with the central component of student-centered education practices, which design lessons around student needs, not institution ally mandated standards” (Choi 45). She realizes that their conditions will remain unchanged if she fails to implement the inquiry-based method of learning. This strategy exclusively focuses on the students’ needs, emphasizing on the necessity of student participation in learning.

Students rather than educators are the drivers of the process as they learn through an in-depth awareness of self-produced information, which transcends classroom education (Ernst, Hodge and Yoshinobu 570). The teacher not only begins to dispense relevant material but also gives them the journals, which serve as platforms to express their diverse perceptions and reflect on the subjects of prejudice, tolerance, bereavement, and social inequality. By adopting this strategy, Gruwell gains their attention and empowers them out of their current social predicament by allowing them the freedom of expression, which sets the stage for breaking the barriers to development.

Movie ‘Moonlight’

The film Moonlight creates a discussion about black men dealing with masculinity issues and finding a true identity. This film uses the symbolism of water to depict the different aspects of Chiron’s life that slowly help develop his identity. I believe that the use of water is signifying the idea of change.

One important scene from this movie was during the first act when Juan teaches Chiron how to swim. This moment is when the relationship between Juan and Chiron really transformed. Chiron began to look up to Juan, as Juan was the only father figure that he has in his life. This scene allowed the two to bond and form an everlasting connection. The importance of the swimming lessons was to teach him how to keep his head above the water, not just literally but figuratively as well. It was the idea that no matter how many obstacles that Chiron will face, he always needed to keep his head up. Juan’s presence was always in the film because of the impact that he had on Chiron. As Chiron continued to grow throughout the film, Juan was always an important figure that was in Chiron’s mind as he began to find his own identity.

Within the next act, Chiron had a sexual relationship at that same exact beach with Kevin. This intimate moment had the sounds of waves crashing into the shore as Chiron is finally vulnerable with Kevin. This scene was very important because it allowed Chiron to stop worrying about his masculinity and just be in the moment, be who he really is. This was a defining moment for Chiron because it allowed him to create his own identity. He allowed himself to go against societal norms, he was a gay black man. The scene next scene after this moment really pushed Chiron back to the identity that society expects him to be.

When Terrel told Kevin to beat up Chiron, Kevin did. This was a moment that had changed Chiron. After that moment, Chiron accumulated up all of his emotions and threw them out the window. He stopped caring about his own identity and started to become what society expects of a black man. Nixon explained, “among blacks, ‘culture’ coincided with ‘nature’” . As society stereotypes blacks to act a certain way, the movie also depicts Terrel, the bully, as a symbol of society's expectation of blacks and male masculinity. This is where the water aspect resurfaces. After Chiron was beaten up, it shows him immersing his face in a sink filled with ice water. When he looks up and into the mirror, the depth in his eyes was gone and he was changed. He gave in to the pressures of masculinity and gave up his innocence. This is when he fought back and hit Terrel with a chair.

The third act started off with the same image of Chiron splashing water onto his face, but this image of Chiron was drastically different. He had conformed to the expectations of masculinity and ‘hardness’ that his culture had shown him. The identity that emerged was a muscular man with gold chains. We learned that he was a drug dealer, and many aspects of his life resemble Juan. Chiron had ultimately gone through many nicknames; Little, Chiron, and Black. As he went through nicknames, he also went through emotions that were felt. These emotions were symbolized with the help of the water. He first built trust with Juan, he then was fearful of his identity with Kevin and Terrel, and towards the last scene showed an idea of self-acceptance. The last scene was an image of Chiron when he was younger. Standing at the beach, watching the waves. I think this was an important moment that really emphasized the importance of water. This showed that the water had a dual meaning. A meaning of freedom- when he was at the beach with Kevin, and a meaning of danger- when he had transformed himself into society’s norms.

The idea of the duality of the water reminded me of DuBois’s article. DuBois claimed, “this double-consciousness, this sense of always looking at one's self through the eyes of others…. One feels his twoness,— two souls, two thoughts, two unreconciled strivings; two warring ideals in one dark body” . This idea reflects on Chiron and his identity of who he wanted to be. He could be himself- the freedom of the water. He could be vulnerable and be a gay, black man. Or he could live to society’s expectations- the danger of the water. He could be the toxic masculinity of a black drug dealer.

Why i Chose Engineering?

Engineering has been embedded in our family for as long as I can remember, from my granddad who used to develop his own irrigation systems for his fields to my father, a mechanical engineer who established and helped prosper countless projects. This not only just motivated me but also set ablaze in me a passion for discovering the vast, fascinating field of engineering especially the birthplaces of all the machineries we witness in our normal lives.

Despite an interest in Engineering, I decided to pursue Biology in A levels in order to build a perspective on the advancing medicine, healthcare and well-being through the application of engineering and data sciences and technology. Mathematics harnessed my ability to tackle problems and approach potential solutions through algorithms, algebraic manipulation and calculus. Books and articles fed my zest for Physics and engineering. The recent Groundbreaking inventions in the field of laser physics exhilarated me about their potential applications that could impact our future. I indulged in my passion for constructing machines by participating in regional competitions with the school's science society. For a Sci-Fi Competition, I lead a team that produced a model hydroelectric plant using parts from old toys such as small electric motors and gears. I also recycled old newspapers to generate writings sheets. These events made me realize that the secret ingredient of every successful project was teamwork. They also helped me nourish my leadership skills.

My internship at Riphah International University allowed me to shadow experienced engineers and further refine my knowledge. I also frequently visited automobile workshops to learn about the details of electro mechanic systems on a basic level. Furthermore, I also researched about the management of Mega projects in automobile, chemical and petroleum industries.

Where do i Want to Go?

I wanted to go abroad to see the world since I was a child, so try to study hard in to have good performance.

Because it is my first time abroad, I will go abroad without any relatives or friends. I must learn to be independent, especially when I encounter difficulties, I must learn how to take care of myself. Then I will go to school. If there will be a language barrier, if I cannot communicate with others smoothly, this is the biggest difficulty because the absence of communication means no friends, learning is very difficult. Yes, money has become the biggest problem because the living environment in foreign countries is different. Working for money and housing are also problems. It's good to live in your home because it saves a lot of money. However, if you rent a house, the rent should be very expensive, and comfortable or uncomfortable living is another issue. You have to look for a place closer to the school. If you share with others, be careful about your finances. Maybe everyone from a different country will have argument.

Now many people choose to study abroad. Frankly speaking, if there are such conditions, the advantage is that studying abroad is a rare opportunity to broaden your horizons and increase your knowledge. It will even be attracted to different local cultures. However, studying abroad is a major decision for everyone and every family. Before we go abroad, we should consider the purpose of studying abroad. What do we hope to get from studying abroad? What are the advantages of studying abroad?

Secondly, the information technology in modern society is very developed. You might think you can learn everything about the developed world through the media and the Internet. You can imagine how you live in a foreign country. But that kind of imagination is completely different from the reality of my life abroad. Breathing fresh air and realizing the humanistic care of local people will be an experience that I cannot experience in China. Studying abroad will greatly broaden your horizons, experience multiculturalism, exercise independent thinking, live independently, develop a calm attitude towards victory and defeat, and help you understand human nature and society more comprehensively. It will also make me care and love my country more.Thirdly, the choice of studying abroad is very diversified. There are two implications. First, foreign universities offer a wide range of majors. Many majors are still blank in China, or domestic peers are not universally recognized. Typical examples include clinical medicine and law. As far as I know, like medicine, some countries are not allowed to study. If I want to do an internship abroad. Then I only chose foreign degrees. Secondly, in China, most graduate students still need a bachelor's degree and professional background, while studying abroad is more flexible, no examination is required, and it is more convenient to change majors. For example, I found online that English majors can apply for accounting, education, media, and even IT majors - something that is almost impossible in China. (of course, this may be harder to understand than other majors.)Fourth, reading efficiency is a significant difference between foreign and domestic universities. On the one hand, developed countries are more advanced in education methods, concepts and teaching facilities. Another advantage is time. We know that the standard study time of domestic universities is 4 years for an undergraduate and 3 years for a master. According to the data, in Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Singapore, and other countries, the undergraduate-only needs three years, the master only needs three years. In this year, it greatly reduces the opportunity cost of studying abroad, because, in this way, I can start my career three years earlier than my domestic peers! This is definitely an opportunity and a challenge for me. Nowadays, many people study abroad to change the status quo. There are quite a few people in this country who have a good job but are eager to overburden on career development. Despite their high incomes, they are aware of the competitive pressures on businesses, and the need to constantly recharge and learn to stay competitive. Or they've reached a point where they find it difficult to break through. Further research is timely. Some people want to change that. They are not satisfied with their present job. They hope to earn relevant overseas degrees after studying abroad and then turn to the industry they like. It's also possible.

Find a Place i would Like to Live

Finding a new place to live is a bit challenging, and at the same time is exciting. People in U.S. often move, and it is hard to find someone who has never done it. Reasons may vary – someone finds a new job, others are looking for a better luck with the new place. As a proverb says, “The grass is greener on the other side of the fence”. Many people look for a new place distantly – ask people, search on the Internet, but it is always a good idea to go and visit an interested area. Living in a city or a town is different than visiting for a short time, but despite this, it can help to decide. Choosing a new place of residence, everyone should consider their own circumstances. There are several critical factors when choosing a right American city or a town to live in.

The climate is one of the important criteria, because different people prefer different types of climate. Some people prefer hot weather, others – all four seasons. Weather and climate are probably the most important factors when it comes time to choose the best place to live. Also, need to be considered the factor that in some areas, natural disasters occur more frequently than in others. After considering these factors and choosing a specific area, it is time to decide between big city and small town. If single people might prefer big cities with nightlife and entertainment, families with kids would prefer small towns with a bigger choice of activities for kids.

When a place meets all criteria is determined, the next step is to do research on the job market. Employment opportunity may vary greatly. There are several useful websites where you can check how your occupation is in demand in this specific area. Income levels can vary greatly from state to state, as well. Salaries often based on where the job is located. Salary level can be researched and compared on websites. Another important factor is a neighborhood. For families with kids, highly rated schools are very important. Many families move from one city to another, so their kids can go to school with a higher rating. A good education is essential to setting up children to better handle the rest of their lives, so the importance of good schools cannot be overstated. To have parks and other places for outdoor activities near is significant for all ages, not only for kids. It is a great place for having fun with friends and family. Parks can improve the environmental conditions of an area, regardless it is a big city or a small town.

It’s important to be proactive about your safety, especially when it comes to choosing a place to live. By researching the crime rates and statistics, you can learn more about the safety of a town or neighborhood. There are several online tools where the crime statistics can be checked. And it is important to remember, if the specific area is safe, it doesn’t guarantee your absolute security.

Cost is an important factor to consider when choosing a place to live. Depending on location, prices can vary greatly. Big cities have bigger expenses than small towns. The price of gasoline, utility services, groceries and taxes are varying. Consider local income and sales taxes when you are looking for a perfect place to live. Taxes may vary from state to state. It is good to know that five states don’t have sales taxes, and eight states don’t collect income taxes.

Moving from one place to another is an exciting process. People move to find something. Find a new job. Find a love. To start a new life. Don’t be afraid to start a new life, to turn over a new leaf. But don’t do it unplanned. If all the above factors cosidered, relocation will be pleasant and will make you happier.

Myself Realization

Humans are complex beings in a variety of ways. I often wonder what the reason is behind people's behavior and way of thinking rather than what I believe is the reason. Initially, when I heard the word psychology, I associated it with psychiatrists, therapy, as well as mind-reading. My perspective of psychiatrists were people who can read your mind because they knew what you're going to say, what you are thinking, and can even explain the reason behind your behavior without you having to tell them. However, as I explored the subject further, I realized that it's not about mind-reading or being psychic. I learned that psychology is not limited to psychiatrists or therapy. It is a broad subject that deals with a variety of issues that explains the complexities of human behavior. Thus, the question remains: in what ways did I apply psychology for the betterment of life?

If there was one person in the world that I knew better than anyone else, shouldn’t that person be myself? As I studied psychology, I realized that I know every single thought, action, and feelings I’ve had over the years yet never truly understood the reasons behind them. This led to the realization that I never acquired full knowledge and understanding of myself. In simpler terms, I lacked self-awareness. Upon knowing this, I aimed to learn more about myself and acquired a better understanding of my personality and behavior. I made use of introspection wherein I took note of my weakness and allow improvement of these areas. For instance, I used to dread my lack of organization skills in any part of my life. However, I learned to effectively control my behavior and direct myself towards decisions that are beneficial to me. I’ve noticed an improvement in my time management skills and I learned ways to motivate myself during times that I turn to procrastination. As it turns out, I managed to accomplish the 4 main goals of psychology: describe, understand, predict, and control. Through observation, I increased my awareness of the situation, therefore, gaining a better understanding of my behavior. With this awareness, I knew what made me felt lazy, sad, unmotivated, and so on. Knowing these, I could take hold of the situation and manage these emotions effectively to increase my productivity.

However, learning psychology did not only benefit me but others around me. My relationships grew stronger and healthier because of my ability of understanding situations and resolving conflict. These relationships included those with my family, friends, as well as people in my school and workplace. It enhanced my leadership skills through critical thinking and knowledge of what causes behavior. By observing people’s actions and the reasons behind these actions, I could adjust the situations and distribute the workload appropriately to the members of my team. This led to success because I assigned members to work that I knew they could accomplish without any difficulties at all.

Having applied my learnings to various aspects of my life enhanced my understanding, appreciation, and interest in psychology. I have developed a better understanding of myself and those around me. This understanding proved to be useful for better relationships and in enhancing the environment in the school setting as well as in the workplace. This skill enables me to assess, understand, and control situations in a different way than I would have done before my exploration of the subject. Admittedly, it has been a journey of self-improvement and the betterment of life. However, this is only a small part of my journey. I am aware there is more to learn and I aim to open my mind to the knowledge that awaits me.

Realization in Life

Is life an item in life? Is life something that you want to remember or cherish? I never knew that death could lead to a career choice. From learning in my lifetime that there are ups and downs, even struggles. Although, there are a lot of family struggles age ten was the worst year of my life . That one year caused emotions all the time, a lot of yelling at each other. Every person at one point in their life goes through a tough day that deals with family or a tragic event that occurred. Today, the struggles and tough days of that one year shaped the path for the future. When I lost 4 people in my family that is when I decided to go into the medical field and become a nurse. Even though I went through a lot of family loss it does not mean that people around me have experienced death as I did. Death is one of the things that can hurt but also help me. Death helped lead me to what I want to study for my career. Even though I needed to learn to move on from what happened, to realize that family will never come back , and chose my career from the event that impacted me most.

When death happened for the first time in my life, I did not think that I could ever continue without my twin brother. Having family means the world to me. The family is one important part of life that I will never take for granted. In 2012, I never did think that I was going to be the same as before my whole life changed. That same year during summer the first week I got the call that my uncle had passed from stomach cancer. That tore me apart, that man was the one person I felt comfortable talking to and not afraid to tell him everything. Then, after having a fantastic day with family at the beach I had lost my brother later that night. My life had ended when I lost him. When, my brother died it was a reality check that I have to do things on my own now. Three months later my aunt called me and said that my grandmother is in the hospital and the doctors are saying no more than 24 hours. I had then hit my breaking point. I was stuck in life; I did not know how to continue anymore. Even though I lost a lot that year, I still think today that if this event would not have occurred I would not be on the path that I am on now.

Death was one of the hardest effect on me. I was sitting there every day hoping that my family would come back. After my parents telling me that they would never come back I was still stuck in the situation they will come back it is just for a short period of time. First, concept to even beginning to think about is coming to the realization that they will not come back. This is probably the worst element to realize. Later , having the family help that was there; when I needed them most was amazing. If it was not for the officers in Munster or family I would be down the negative path. I believed that it was all my fault that my family members passed. The realization that it was not my fault that I could not help all is when life hit me. I need to figure out what I want to do with my life.

This experience brought me to the path and career that I want to do for the rest of my life. The day that I lost my brother made me realize that I could not help that day but I want to be able to help other people in their time of need. I started wondering what part of the medical field that I want to be in whether it be a nurse, EMT, doctor, work in the ER. All the ideas for the medical field was looked into. I decided when I was sixteen that I wanted to be a nurse including the work in an emergency room. It is not a great situation that death occurred in my family. I look at the deaths as a mind opener that I wanted to help my family and could not but just the thought that I can help someone after high school; is completely worth all the tears , and the hard days. I thank god every day for

Throughout my lifetime I ended up learning that there are a lot of ups and downs, life and death situations. When, I lost the most important people in my life it made me decide that I am going into the medical field. In two-thousand twelve I never once thought that I would be able to wake up every day and be the same. This experience helped me to the path and career that I want for the rest of my life. The death that affected me most was my brother we did literally all things possible; then I had to come to the realization that he was not coming back and I had to do things alone. The realization for me through this whole experience is that I could not help my family when they needed the help at their type of need but I want to be able to be there next to people to help calm and try my best to help the family members of others. Where I now make all the tears and hard days’ worth it.

The internet is a global network that provides individuals with the opportunity to perform a variety of different actions. The internet connects people across the globe, forms new relationships and exchanges ideas that would not have occurred prior to it’s existence.

One of the most unique abilities the internet provides individuals with is the ability to connect with people from all over the globe. The internet is a way we can connect through relationships, problems, interests and viewpoints. In earlier times, the world connected through writing letters or talking on the phone. Communicating in these ways took time and became somewhat difficult. The internet is a huge contribution into the development of communication technologies. The internet has decreased the cost and increased the speed of the information we transfer. There is even ways we can virtually talk to people from across the globe with internet features such as face time or email and messaging. The features technology has brought society has made many things possible that never existed in early times.

The internet has helped save many people lives in many different ways and it has got to a point where lives could depend on it. For example, there was an article written by Torricke -Barton on October 14, 2015. The article tells a story about how a Syrian refugee was photographed selling pens on the streets of Beirut. Abdul Halim Attar (A man who went missing) had appeared in heart breaking images posted online. A journalist known as Gissur Simonarson asked the internet to help find this man and started a hashtag called #buypens. In less than 24 hours the man was located by people who recognized him. Over 1,717,000 people from all over the world donated to Abdul and his family. In this situation, the internet united the world and changed their lives forever. The story of Abdul is not the only story that showed how the internet changed someone’s life, there are many more like for example, William Lambers wrote about how the internet saves our lives as well. He mentioned about how after the earthquake in Nepal, WFP quickly sent a team of technical experts to restore internet communications, also known as ETC. The internet ability this team has allowed has helped earthquake victims. This upgraded communication helped feed millions of people. Samaritan’s Purse, one of the charities operating in Nepal, says the Internet is their lifeline.

A lot of people do not realize how vast the internet really is. As of June 2018, there are 55.1% people from across the globe have access to the internet. As of right now the internet is the largest community in history. Even the tools and knowledge of one nation now belong to all nations. Now a days you can find out just about anything about anywhere in the world. Before the internet, if you wanted to keep up with what was going on in the world, you had to walk to the nearest news stand and purchase a local reporting on what had happened the previous day. Today, news sources from all over the globe are available anywhere online.

The internet is and will continue to expand, and could create new jobs, help educate people and decrease poverty. Consumers are now making 10% of their retail purchases online. The number of indirect jobs supported by the internet related activities could possibly raise the total number of jobs by 1.54 million. The internet has made an impact on businesses. The internet has made it possible for businesses to be performed across the globe through a computer. It has made it a good platform for people to promote their goods and services.

The internet and social media provide young adults with a range of benefits and opportunities to empower and grow themselves in different ways. It gives them a way to be creative, helps them to gain access to a supportive community for all sorts of situations, and can improve their learning. Many Universities have transitioned to online courses, I pads and other technology sources have joined the classrooms to help kids with learning, and computers are standard equipment in classrooms. Learning can even be done at home for those who can not attend school for different reasons. Online learning has even made it possible to earn different degrees a lot quicker because the internet can keep up with an individual’s learning pace. By connecting and empowering students and teachers, we can speed up economic growth and improve the well being of our society. Today, you can use to internet to access libraries, encyclopedias, news sources and other information from just about anywhere in the world. The internet has made a huge impact on learning and it will to continue to do so as time progresses.

The social interactions and communities that young people form online can help to boost confidence as well as social skills. A literature review published by the Young and Well Cooperative Research Centre found that social networking services actually play a huge role in young people’s lives. Children who understand emotional signs in a social setting can form better quality social skills. Although the internet is helpful for the youth, it has also been a great source for the aged in our society. With the help of the internet, seniors can get access to all different types of information without stepping foot out of their home. They can even socialize and connect to people close to them through the internet.

While the internet is great for improving social skills, it is also an efficient tool for relationships. It can be helpful for couples who are having trust issues in their relationships. For example, it gives them a constant flow of communication which can be a very helpful thing for long distance relationships. That being said, the internet is a good platform for forming new relationships. What is unique about the internet is that it allows individuals to find others who share the same interests. Dating websites offer numerous types of personality testing and match making that can help guide individuals towards the right partner. If it were not for safe dating websites, some people would not be married to the person their with now.

Although the internet is a plus for relationship forming, it is also a great way to form new friendships. It gives us a way to become friends with people from all over the world while learning about other cultures and lifestyles. We can learn more about each other quicker using the internet because people are typically more comfortable to share and express their opinions and information about themselves online. A quick scroll through social media can also give you an idea of how personal life events are growing in different people’s lives. The internet gives people an opportunity to participate in other’s lives, such as commenting on other individual’s pictures and keeping up with what is going on in other’s lives.

The internet has changed the way people travel. People are traveling more and more as time progresses. According to a report by World Tourism Organization, it is estimated that by 2030 a global population of 8.5 billion people will take approximately 2 billion international trips. As our world travels faster, we are fortunate to have improved technology that provides individuals with helpful tools and apps that let people do it more frequently. The internet has made it possible to schedule and purchase flights, book reservations for a hotel stay, and plan tours and rent transportation online. Online, individuals can find out more about their destination, like where it is located and the best places to eat. This makes traveling easier, safer and more efficient.

The internet has turned existence upside down. The internet is the way the world prefers to communicate in this moment in time. Society uses the internet to share ideas and everyday life decisions with others, buy and order products and goods, make businesses and create new jobs and even find out information we would not know prior to its existence.

What would you do with a 127 Million Dollars?

Take a moment and ask yourself if you could blow $127 Million. It sounds crazy, but apparently very possible. Terrance Watanabe did the unthinkable by blowing $127 million in one year just by gambling. Gambling can become an addiction and can be considered a drug if you can't control your habits. Watanabe did just that, gambling became his addiction and he couldn't resist the thrill. Now saying this let it be known he was not always sober while doing this, Watanabe was also consuming alcohol while going on this gambling run (CBS, 2009). With this being said who's in the wrong, the casinos that kept allowing Watanabe to gamble constantly or Watanabe who would not set a limit and control his habit?

Terrance Watanabe without a doubt had a serious problem, I think we can all agree on that. In 2007, Watanabe's problem would change his life forever. As I mentioned before Watanabe lost, yes lost 127 million. Now that year it has been reported that Watanabe bet a mind-blowing total of $825 million (CBS, 2009). Watanabe's urge to gamble basically had him living at the casino's if you really think about it. He would play slot machines for 24 hours straight and then go on to play a few hands of blackjack, which had a limit of $50,000 each (CBS, 2009). With all of the gambling, this would lead to people showing up to the casino's Watanabe would gamble at just to watch him in amazement if you would call it that.

Love for Animals (College Essay)

It’s never surprising that people love animals, especially baby animals and are always drown in their charms. Millions of us watch their videos on YouTube or other video platforms. If you own a pet and post its videos or photos on Weibo, then you get a chance to attract thousands of followers or even more in a short time. The most heard explanation for our love of animals is” they are cute.” So, why do we think baby animals are cute? In fact, it’s quiet a scientific thing.

Those animals that are generally considered cute have much in common. For instance, they usually have big eyes, round faces and thick fur. Most of us find panda more appealing than bear, though they all have furry bodies. It may owe to panda’s bigger and rounder head. The science behind the cutesy faces is simple: a lot of baby mammals, including human babies have those certain features. We are all born with big heads and big eyes and when we see those features, our natural caring emotions spring into action. Psychologist called it “cute response”, an instinctive, primitive reaction of human being.

At the sight of panda’s baby-like head, or cat and dog’s round watery eyes, blood rushes to our mid brain, part of brain’s pleasure center where a lot of dopamine is released from. Dopamine is also one of the hormone that released when we fall in love. This chemical reaction creates emotions, making us immersed in compassion and love for animals.

In addition to the appearance of animals, the clumsy action of animals is also one of the major triggers of the cute response. It can probably explain why we love penguins. Their special walking posture makes them just like toddling babies. Of course, other special behaviors can have the same effect. Another example is Koala whose generally sleepy face and symbolic act of cuddling trees are incredibly cute.

However, it’s not only facial clues that can trigger cute response, sounds can be just as powerful. We associate high frequency sounds, created by animals like puppies and penguins, with surprise and fun. But when we hear low frequency sounds like a cat’s snore, we feel calm and comfort. If we take a careful look of cats, we’ll find that they meet all the requirements to be cute, for example, big watery eyes, furry body, elegant movements and sounds of snoring. Maybe it’s why they have such a close relationship with human and have shared our home for thousands of years. What makes it interesting is that when a cat wants food or caring, they may raise their sound’s pitch to a peak of 600 Hertz, the same as a human baby’s wail. Such sound makes it impossible for us to ignore.

Even the hardest soul melts when confronted cute animals. Those features that trigger cute response and even the cute response itself exist for survival. All creatures are struggling to find a way to adapt to the changing world and to ensure the race lives on. Maybe that is why nature remains awesome and charming.

Stealing of Music

Music has been around for thousands of years, present in every culture to some degree. It can be expressful, resonating with people as an artform with open interpretations, layers of storytelling, technical creativity, and emotions across many genres. However, some musicians have been exposed as thieves, stealing structures of music from earlier artists. Where can the line between plagiarism and derivative work be drawn?

Music has always been influenced by past works, and musicians have a latent pressure to appeal to listener’s ingrained tastes while keeping a signature originality to their music. However, due to the way copyrights work, it is subjective on how much one artist can take from another. Copyright does not protect the message or emotion of a song, only the structure, akin to how many paintings can have a common feeling or story but only one can have it’s layout, as an artist cannot simply copy the older version’s structure without appearing like a thief. Music works the same way, and it’s structure is protected by similar laws surrounding the progression of notes. However, western music has a limit to it’s melodies, and chords don’t appeal unless they share notes across their harmony. Melodies are often repeated and psychologically ingrained into listeners, especially with common instruments and messages associated with popular genres, delivered across mediums such as streaming or radio which favor the popular, repeating a cycle of structurally similar music being delivered into listeners, repeating the cycle of how music is listened to. This limit has led to many court battles between artist’s families from decades ago suing newer artists for plagiarism, such as the recent Robin Thicke vs. Marvin Gaye lawsuit where Thicke had lost millions over their similarities.

Of course artists deserve protection under copyright laws and shouldn’t be stolen from, but what an older artist would consider their own creation can have a structure used centuries ago, and not technically be their original work. Music can be varied in innumerable forms, but genres are bound to have overlap, whether it be the same message or structure, and respecting the boundaries while building on past artist’s work can be grueling, especially with how music today can be pushed for profit instead of expanding the medium. It’s important to remember where one’s ideas come from, while giving a unique twist not heard before.

How Can Bullying in Schools be Prevented?

Bullying refers to the hostile use of attacks, threats, coercion and other means to make others fear, thereby achieving the purpose of controlling others.

First, the level of depression in school bullying victims is significantly higher than in children who have not experienced bullying. Serious bullying may even cause victims to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Secondly, they even feel a lack of self-confidence and lower self-esteem. Bullying can lead to impaired cognitive function, such as decreased memory and inattention, which affects normal learning.

Primarily, students need to know how to protect themselves. Don't take the initiative to conflict with classmates at school. If we have conflict with others, immediately seek a teacher to resolve the conflict. Don't be playful after school, go home on time, and stay away from violent games and violent TV shows.

Also? family protection is important to children. For the family, Parents should teach their children from an early age not to use violence to solve problems, but for bullying from others, especially physical attacks, you must fight back. Good communication mechanism and habits, always grasp the child's dynamics in school, can not ignore the child, especially if the child returns to school one day after the abnormal performance, we must pay attention to the child's situation in a timely manner. It is pivotal to let the children know that their parents are always there for them.

School protection is a crucial part of protecting minors from bullying. For schools, especially teachers, it is necessary to grasp the relationship and status of children in the class for the first time, strengthen education, and increase vigilance. For key children, focus on guarding, abnormalities, and timely handling. Kill small conflicts in the bud in time and don't create big incidents and impacts. Immediately after a bullying incident, a team meeting or even a school meeting is held to let students recognize that the behavior of the bully is wrong, to prevent the victim from being isolated, and to eliminate his retaliation and uneasiness. The guardian and the school should work closely to restore the psychological harm of the victim, and the school's psychological counseling center should pay close attention to the psychological health of the victim. Be firm in your criticism of bullies and deal with them promptly.

In addition, we have to strengthen the rule of law and regulations on school bullying and strengthen psychological health counseling and life guidance for students, establish school bullying autonomous institutions on campus, and build a harmonious campus atmosphere. Appoint corresponding psychological counselors, responsible for daily student training, parent training, publicity lectures, etc. When encountering violence in schools, punish students for harm according to the severity of the violence. At the same time, the continuous observation and psychological counseling of the victims are initiated to protect the personal privacy of the victims and minimize the harm and negative effects.

Essay on Mentoring

Mentoring has become an integral part of any professional career. Whether an individual is mentored by someone with greater knowledge or they are mentoring someone coming up in their career, mentoring can build someone’s career from the ground up. Every mentor relationship is different, but there are factors that can lead to a more productive, satisfying relationship for both mentor and mentee.

A qualitative study conducted by Straus, Chatur, and Taylor (2009), involved telephone interviews with health and clinician investigators with MD degrees. The researchers asked questions related to the overall experience with mentorship, what the individual thought were good characteristics of a mentoring relationship, mentorship strategies, and barriers to mentorship. All participants believed good mentorship to be a vital part of having career success. It was unanimous that better relationships were formed when the mentee chose their mentor rather than being assigned a mentor. The researchers were able to pull together a list of characteristics of a good mentor including: seniority, approachable, accessible, altruistic, understanding, patient, and honest. Open communication and respect also came up as being important (Straus et al., 2009).

Another study lead by Straus, Johnson, Marquez, and Feldman (2013) included 54 faculty members from two universities. These participants stated that a successful mentorship relationship was one with mutual respect, clear expectations, and shared values. They also came to the conclusion that a personal connection between mentor and mentee was necessary for success. Not only did they come up with what created a successful relationship but also the factors that may lead to a failed relationship. Poor communication, lack of commitment, personality differences, and perceived or real competition may lead to a failed mentorship. A lack of the mentor’s experience may also lead to failure in the mentorship relationship (Straus et al., 2013).

Allen and Poteet (1999) also examined the characteristics of an ideal mentor. They investigated what the mentors and mentees can do to create an effective mentoring relationship. Listening and communication were at the top of the list for the 27 participants. They followed this with patience, knowledge of the industry, ability to understand others, and honesty. The researchers concluded that both mentors and mentees need to establish an open form of communication that includes feedback. This will help facilitate success within the relationship along with setting standards and expectations (Allen & Poteet, 1999).

I chose my mentor based on her willingness to answer my questions and take time out of her day to speak with me. She is a clinical nutrition manager who has many years of experience as a Registered Dietitian. She has also worked at a WIC clinic, as a clinical dietitian, and as the Colorado Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics President. With her many years of experience and leadership I knew she was the perfect fit. As Straus et al. (2009) stated, having a mentor who is approachable and accessible is important for success. My mentor is both of these things. Although she is constantly busy she will always put me in her calendar. She has also shown many signs of leadership. Not only can she teach me how to be a good leader but she can speak from her own experience of what do to and what not to do.

Being in a mentoring relationship has made me realize that I cannot do this on my own. I will never know everything there is to know even after many years of experience. I will have to continue to stay up to date on the science and new research. My mentor has been a great example of staying up to date on the literature and always having a desire to learn more. She has helped me develop into a curious professional, always educating myself more. She has also taught me that it is okay to change your point-of-view or belief in a certain matter. It is okay if I change my mind about topics or controversies after gaining more information.

Based on my experience as a mentee and the information in the research studies above, I will let others choose me as their mentor. I will not go out and seek individuals to mentor because it will likely lead to a failed relationship. My mentor was not seeking me out but rather I approached her only to be met by a pleasant surprise. Being available and respecting my future mentee will also be of upmost importance. My mentor has taught me that no detail is too small to share. Even if you think it is basic knowledge within the profession, the mentee may not know the information. So sharing everything possible will be appreciated by the mentee and will help them learn and grow.

Prior to my internship I did not know the importance of having a mentor. After my own personal experience with a mentor and reading research articles about the mentorship relationship, I hope to continue to have a mentor all throughout my career. Not only is it a great way to build a lasting relationship but also a lasting career of success. There will always be someone with more experience and knowledge than me so I will always have room to learn more. Mentoring is not something to disregard. It may lead to opportunities I did not think were possible.

Isolation and Loneliness

A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, were written during an era where women were seen as less important than men. In both of the stories, the main character is a woman who is experiencing loneliness and isolation because of the men that are in their lives. This results in women becoming emotionally and mentally ill. In A Rose for Emily, her isolation is due to the fact that her father does not want other men to see her, which causes Emily to fear being lonely and separating herself from her town. In The Yellow Wallpaper, Jane is isolated because she is experiencing postpartum depression and her husband believes that being isolated from any stimulus to the brain would help her out of her “sickness,” even though it actually causes her to go mentally insane. William Faulkner’s A Rose for Emily and Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s The Yellow Wallpaper deal with women who are mentally and emotionally ill as well as how they both share the concept of isolation. Altogether, this promotes the idea that women had no voice in the past and suffered in some way.

A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner starts with the death of Emily Grierson and how the whole town “mostly out of curiosity to see the inside of her house, which no one save an old man-servant--a combined gardener and cook--had seen in at least ten years” (Faulker, 1) attended her funeral. This immediately shows how distant she was from society since nobody has seen her house in years making everyone curious about what it was like. Throughout the story, the narrator goes back and forth in time telling events that happened in Emily’s life. Through these flashbacks, we can see the isolation that Emily is put through because of her father and what she does about it. Emily’s father was a very controlling man who would drive away any man who showed interest in her, which ultimately left her still being single at the age of thirty. This was the primary reason for the isolation in her life, due to the absolute authority of a man. There is one specific instance where Emily is described as “a slender figure in white in the background” (Faulkner 3) while her father was, “clutching a horsewhip” (Faulkner 3) while two men were by the house. This supports the idea of how her father always took control of Emily and her relationships. When her father passed away, Emily was in denial that her father was not dead, and it was because she was holding on to the one thing she had in her life since her father chased everyone away and she had nobody left which began the true fear of loneliness in her life making her more isolated from society. Being the man closest to her, he had so much authority over Emily that it affected her for the rest of her life making her distant from society.

In A Rose for Emily, it captures many moments where the isolation caused by the authority from her father has affected her within her life. When she was left alone in her life, she began to realize how things were changing all around her from the houses that were near her to the laws in society. Emily’s disregard for the new laws and rules show how torn apart from the society she is. One huge example of this is when she goes to the drug store to buy poison even when the law requires a bound up reason to buy the poison; she stares at the druggist once and she gets the poison she uses for murdering Homer Barron. She was so out of place that when she bought the poison everyone thought she was going to kill herself since it was right around the time where Homer would not marry or be engaged to her. Her fear of being alone again took over, that it resulted in Emily killing Homer and keeping his corpse in her home. Another instance is when the tax representatives from the council come to visit her trying to get her to pay her taxes and Emily tells them off, indicating that her father had loaned the town with special reference to Colonel Sartoris, the former mayor. The former mayor though had passed on for more than ten years and since she didn’t know about a death that happened ten years ago, it solidifies how isolated she was. Emily seemed to be okay with that fact that she was so isolated since once Homer was killed she barely ever left the house and “when we next saw Miss Emily, she had grown fat and her hair was turning gray” (Faulkner 5). The whole root cause behind the solitude all results back to her father because when Emily finally had a young potential man in her life, he wanted to leave her which resulted in his death. She did not want to ever be alone so she kept the corpse laying next to it every night so she at least had someone there with her.

The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is comparatively similar in the fact that a man had the authority over a woman creating the isolation between her and society. The protagonist in the story, Jane, was suffering from postpartum depression and so her husband, who is a physician, believes that not being able to write or see any people will help her heal. At first Jane agrees with this but the seclusion eventually proves unbearable to her. Eventually she begins to believe that there is a woman in the wallpaper and she tells her husband that she wishes he would take her away (Gilman 652) because she believes that being in an old house is not helping her. Her husband takes the authority that he has and ensures her that she is getting better and needs to stay locked away from people. This drives Jane even more crazier, to the point where she believes that “the front pattern does move - and no wonder! The woman behind shakes it!” (Gilman 654). Because of this, she starts peeling away all of the wallpaper just to get away from it all. In reality, the woman she is seeing is herself because she is being so smothered by her husband making her think that the woman is “all the time trying to climb through. But nobody could climb through that pattern — it strangles so; I think that is why it has so many heads.' (Gilman 654). The pattern in reality is showing her she is trying to escape from her “cage” but her husband has so much control over her that it drives her insane being isolated and not allowed to do anything.

Throughout the present day society there are still factors that isolate people from society creating the loneliness in them and even possibly resulting in a mental health case similar to A Rose for Emily and The Yellow Wallpaper. In the article “The effects of loneliness and verbal aggressiveness on message interpretation” by Edwards et. al. it is stated that “loneliness involves psychological distress that takes the form of a painful yearning for social contact” (Edwards et.al, 140). In both of these cases all Jane and Emily want is social contact and not to be alone because of their forceful isolation. Society as we know it is currently all yearning for social contact and to be able to resume their everyday lives. Since the world is going through the COVID 19 pandemic we are told to social distance ourselves and only to leave our homes for essentials. Colleges and offices have gone entirely online, schools and restaurants are closed and nursing homes and hospitals are not allowing for visitors. In both The Yellow Wallpaper and A Rose for Emily we can see how being isolated resulted in psychological problems and currently in society “mental health experts are warning that losing everyday social connections comes with psychological costs” (Gupta). People in society today experience both short and long term health problems daily from things such as stress, insomnia, and emotional exhaustion. In the article they mentioned a study where it:

“compared quarantined versus non-quarantined individuals during an equine influenza outbreak. Of 2,760 quarantined people, 34 percent, or 938 individuals, reported high levels of psychological distress, which can indicate mental health problems such as anxiety and depression, during the outbreak compared with 12 percent of non-quarantined individuals” (Gupta).

This is similar to what society is going through right where states throughout the United States are quarantined, not just 2,760 people. Isolation and loneliness in society is something that will never go away which is clearly shown in the two stories written in the eighteen and nineteen hundreds.

Overall, the two short stories show how different people deal with social isolation and psychological stress which in this case were both caused by the authority of a man. Both Jane and Emily suffered in some sort of way because of the isolation caused within their life. William Faulkner’s A Rose for Emily shows how physical isolation of a person can result in social alienation and fear of loneliness resulting in madness. In comparison, Charlotte Gilman’s The Yellow Wallpaper pays attention to the feelings of a person whose physical confinement turns Jane crazy and instead of helping her “sickness” makes her worse. Within these stories they depicted the life of women who were isolated and tucked away from society resulting in psychological problems which can still arise today.

Loneliness in “Of Mice and Men”

In John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, it depicts dejection since it happens against the background of The Great Depression, and this influenced the characters; Candy, Crooks, and Curley's significant other. The transient laborers never truly remained in one spot sufficiently long to have a long-lasting relationship with others. A considerable lot of the characters confessed to experiencing forlornness that it influences the practices of the characters.

One trademark that characterizes Candy is that he knows to stay out of other people's affairs. During one experience, Candy catches the discussion among George and Lennie which uncovers how George had misled the manager with respect to Lennie being George's cousin, when Lennie was not identified with George. At the point when George stands up to Candy about snoopping, Candy reacts by saying "A person on a farm don't never listen nor he don't ast no inquiries". Obviously Candy has heard their discussion, and thinks about George's falsehood. His reaction uncovers his inclination to avoid individuals' issues and stay out of other people's affairs. As it were, this obliviousness is his conviction that avoiding inconvenience is critical for laborers on the farm since they're so replaceable. Hence, it is nothing unexpected that Candy is one of the laborers that has been working at the farm for the longest. The concise trade with George and Lennie outlines Candy's attribute of staying out of other people's affairs and avoiding inconvenience.

In this novella, Steinbeck regards ladies as though they are for the most part miscreants. Curley's better half, who strolls around the farm as a temptress towards men. Her motivation is very little at the outset, however all through the story, she turns out to be a greater amount of a significant person. Curley's significant other is regularly known as the vagrant or tart around the farm. She lures men into going with her in light of the fact that Curley doesn't give her much consideration. During the clever when she faces Lennie, Crooks, and Candy in the steady, she confesses to feeling an improper disappointment with her life.

In John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, Candy is a person who stays out of other people's affairs for endurance on the farm, and is a desolate person because of his absence of loved ones. Candy's choice to act uninformed with regards to George's falsehood outlines his inclination to avoid inconvenience, as his considers that to be the best approach to get by on the farm. What's more, Candy's depression is uncovered through his eagerness to move his offer to George and Lennie, individuals who he had recently met a couple of days prior. His activity show that he has no association with any other individual other than these two individuals he had quite recently met as of late, highlighting how desolate he genuinely is.

Gothic Elements in ‘The Black Cat’

Edgar Allan Poe is considered to be one of the greatest gothic writers in literature. From his works such as the tell-tale heart to the cask of amontillado and ligeia to thefall of the house of usher he is a master at bringing horror and suspense to writing. Anotherstory which parallels the tell-tale heart is the Black Cat. In it the narrator becomesderanged and obsessed with a Black Cat that he has as a pet. Eventually it gets to the point wherehe eventually murders the cat out of sheer rage and irrationality.

Throughout this short story poeuses high emotions setting and disturbing imagery to show the psychology of the narrator which is what makes it gothic literature. High destructive emotions are one of the main motivators of the narrator and a key pieceof the entire story. In the beginning of the story the narrator has a good relationship with his catpluto. A strong and loving relationship that makes pluto the main companion of the narrator pluto--this was the cat's name--was my favorite pet and playmate. I alone fed him and heattended me wherever I went about the house. It was even with difficulty that I could preventhim from following me through the streets pg 671 the relationship manifests due to thenarrators love towards animals especially pluto. However during the course of the story thatrelationship takes a drastic change for the worse. The narrator begins to mistreat pluto and has such an extreme hatred for the cat he once loved. Not only does the narrator express angertowards the Black Cat he goes an extra step or two further; his rage is so large that he begins tophysically harm the cat for his own sadistic pleasures my original soul seemed at once to takeits flight from my body; and a more than fiendish malevolence gin-nurtured thrilled every fibreof my frame. I took from my waistcoat-pocket a penknife opened it grasped the poor beast bythe throat and deliberately cut one of its eye from the socket pg 671 soon that physical harmeventually leads to pluto being murdered then the narrators own wife.

The setting is another big element of gothic literature. Many gothic stories aretraditionally set within castles or giant manors they sometimes include dungeons and even secretpassageways. although the Black Cat isnt set in a castle there is a cellar that creates thatsame dark and dreary atmosphere for a purpose such as this the cellar was well adapted. Itswalls were loosely constructed and had lately been plastered throughout with a rough plaster which the dampness of the atmosphere had prevented from hardening pg 675 the descriptionof the cellar creates an air of unpleasantness which is similar to a dungeon. Along with thecellar theres also a hidden compartment which contributes to the gothic setting because of itsability it hide things from the outside world. The narrator puts this to use to conceal the body ofhis murdered wife moreover in one of the walls was a projection caused by a false chimney or fireplace that had been filled up and made to resemble the rest of the cellar. I made no doubtthat i could readily displace the bricks at this point insert the corpse and wall the whole up asbefore so that no eye could detect any thing suspicious pg 675 the use of the compartmentadds to the parallels of two other edgar allan poe stories: the tell-tale heart and the cask of amontillado. Both the cellar and hidden compartment are settings where most of the horrortakes place in the story which makes them fitting elements of gothic literature.

Finally poes disturbing imagery is what truly makes this story gothic. The gruesomedescriptions are meant to inflict horror from the reader and poe does this very well. In the Black Cat these descriptions include the narrators thoughts which should be considereddisturbing to readers. While in the cellars the narrator goes through another emotionalbreakdown and ends up murdering his wife with an axe. Its this description that is the mosthorrific due to the circumstance of the murder along with the nonchalant way he describes it:but this blow was arrested by the hand of my wife. Goaded by the interference into a rage morethan demoniacal i withdrew my arm from her grasp and buried the axe in her brain. She felldead upon the spot without a groan pg 674 the narrator doesnt feel any guilt nor does heevade what he just did. He states bluntly how he killed her instantly and without any remorse. He then goes on to continue this grotesqueness by thinking of hiding her body this hideousmurder accomplished I set myself forthwith and with entire deliberation to the task ofconcealing the body. I knew that i could not remove it from the house either by day or by night without the risk of being observed by the neighbors. Many projects entered my mind. At oneperiod i thought of cutting the corpse into minute fragments and destroying them by fire. At another I resolved to dig a grave for it in the floor of the cellar pg 674-75 the thoughtprocess the narrator goes through weighs the multiple options of hiding her body and not feelingany emotions about it adds to that shocked feeling that the reader experiences.

Poe creates these incredible worlds filled with horror and the supernatural that leaves thereader shaking. The way he illustrates villainous characters dark settings brutal plotlines andevery little detail in between is what makes him a great writer. The Black Cat is a story about aman whose aggression towards his cat leads him to doing other brutally violent acts. In the waysthat poe uses high emotions setting and disturbing imagery he is able to create a story that is aperfect example of gothic literature.

Weather in ‘Macbeth’ and ‘Julius Caesar’

Weather during Shakespeare’s time was different how we understand weather today. Weather was believed to be controlled by God or evil spirts. The witches were believed to cause the bad weather to happen. Shakespeare utilizes bad weather to describe what is happening in the plays. For example, stormy weather was associated with the death of Julius Caesar. Weather is just one of the many supernatural events that Shakespeare incorporates into his plays.

In Julius Caesar, a series of strange supernatural events happen as the plan to kill Julius Caesar is coming together. The impossible seems to have happened with graves opening up, a lioness in the streets, men on fire, and ghosts. The night before Caesar’s death was very stormy. The supernatural is a recurring theme in all of Shakespeare’s plays.

In Macbeth, Shakespeare uses the chaotic weather to whenever the witches appear in the scene. The weather was also very terrible before King Duncan’s death. Macbeth also has supernatural events leading up to the murder. Macbeth has a vision of a bloody dagger. This vision is strange because Macbeth can only see the dagger. His other senses do not seem to work. Macbeth even ponders if the dagger is even real.

Shakespeare uses pathetic fallacy to the plays. The weather plays an important factor in setting the mood for the event and serves as a foreshadowing event. Shakespeare uses the supernatural in his plays because during his time, the people were extremely suspicious of the supernatural. Everything that is bad is blamed on the supernatural.

Generation Differences (essay)

A generation is a group of persons most of whom are the nearly same age, having similar ideas, problems, dispositions. It can also be described as the medium period generally considered to be about thirty years, during which children are born and grow up become adults and begin to have children of their own.

According to an article by Ellen Kelly she said:

“ Our youth are becoming more free from the pressure that parents have formerly exerted on young people’s faith, work choices and love. Internally and externally, the youth have brust the limits, that still half a century ago, inhibited legitimate freedom of choice, their most individual lifestyle. This liberation has developed so quickly that no one should wonder that the young have not been able to set themselves new boundaries. In many homes now it is not the children that are oppressed, but the parents. Young people’s lack of modesty and consideration of the home and social life, are matched by the lack of restraint and mastery in studies or sports or social work or whatever it may be, that the young indulge in.” (1910)

The writer said that generation hole is a difference of opinions between one generation and another with reference to belief, politics, or values. In today’s usage( generation hole) often mentions to a touched hole between younger people and their parents or grandparents.

At first I will describe my generation from my point of view.

I was born in the eighties, that generation was the powerful and influential generation. Most of the great young people who achieved technological breakthroughs were born in the happy eighties, not Mark Zuckerbery founder of facebook is the first or David Karp founder of Tumbler is the last. I think those whom were born in this period and the preceded are better than those whom are the new generation because they were conducted by generations with different habits and they were born and felt in the same corresponding social association, although, there were no means of communications, they were a predominantly in the children of the current generation, as well as, their childhood was pleasantly formerly generated.

the curriculum was very simple, simple book. I remember that we did not begin to study English only in the beginning of the preparatory grade. The teacher was and still a good example. His method was cultivated in us values and ethics, before he gave us science.

Of course, black and white stories and magazines were prevalent in this period and when the marvel of marvels appeared” the video games” it was an interesting games. It remained so until the markets emerged the computer, of course, the capabilities of the devices were very weak, but it was acceptable at that time.

That was my generation that was so obedient and simple.

While the new generation which through my experience with my children and my students is similar to what has Elle Kelly written. I found a great differences between what we were fascinated and considered as values and what this new generation considered as things that are not important. You will discover and notice this disparity in dress, in the way of speech, language, style, and understanding. The internet has become an integral part of their entity. They sail...Dive….Then dive and they do not fear drowning or become wet.

The network turned around their necks and their imaginations.

There is fundamental difference that touches values, customs, traditions, behaviors, and lifestyle.

So if we want to do a comparison between my generation and the current generation It became clear how different they were and no doubt. The conflict of generations is a clash of culture and civilizations. Many people may not recognize its existence as an insurrection.

Generations’ Gap Due to Differences

In our day to day living, we encounter words like Century, Era, Ancient, Modern, Postmodern, Archaic, the Latest, Dispensation, and, Generation, etc. What are these words, how are they related, and what are their implications for human relations and mutual existence? These words, which may be synonyms or antonyms, tell us that people have lived and still live across different spectrums of times and seasons. They show the segregations of the times, the segregations of the ages, and the segregations of values, interests, expectations, and priorities by different groups of people on this planet, earth. These words imply natural, realistic gaps existing between people of different ages, with different aspirations of life; that’s the Generations’ Gap!

Why should we be concerned about generations’ gaps or generational gaps? Why should we strive to bridge these gaps? Gaps exist between people of different generations, yet these people need to co-exist at a point in time: parents with their children, seniors with juniors, pastors and different age groups they oversee, teachers and students, etc.

Basically, while the “old” generation considers the “new” generation as inexperienced and just adventurous, and demands from them conformity, the new generation considers the old generation as outmoded, conservative and compelling, and demands from them change and their independence. In many cases, people lack the information and skill to bring a blend of the different phases and ensure loving and mutual coexistence. The gap then continues to widen with psychological, emotional, spiritual and developmental effects, mostly negative, on families, institutions, and other forms of communal living in our society. Therefore, something needs to be done to avoid breakdowns in various facets in society and ensure that generations’ gaps are managed well for peaceful coexistence.

Favorite Tradition: Leaving Milk and Cookies for Santa

On the night of Christmas Eve, Santa delivers presents to many families and eats over 300 million cookies. Making cookies and milk has been a tradition families have done for over a century while creating warm memories. The tradition of leaving cookies for Santa Claus commenced during the Great Depression, and over the years children have left many types of cookies for Santa and still do today.

According to most historians, the Great Depression was when the tradition of leaving cookies for Santa initiated. It is assumed that parents would have their children bake cookies and share them with Santa. By doing this, parents believed it would influence them to share and care for others.

Aside from the most popular theory, people also agree that the tradition might have originated from the Dutch. It was said that Dutch children would leave hay for St. Nick’s horse, Sinterklaas, in exchange for marzipan, chocolate coins, and hot cocoa.

Another theory that is accepted, is that the tradition appeared during the Victorian Era. This so called era was from 1837 to 1901. People in America would throw parties and everyone would gather for this Christmas celebration. The host or hostess would leave Scotch and wafer cookies out by their Christmas tree in thanks for their blessed life to St. Nick since it was part of their Christianity beliefs.

The last theory of where leaving cookies for Santa emerged, was in Germany. People would adorn their paradise tree with wafer cookies and apples in hopes that St. Nick wold stop by their house.

As a result of this tradition, Santa does have his favorite cookies. His number one favorite cookie is the traditional chocolate chip cookie. Another one of his favorites, is the sugar cookie. People always make designs like reindeer, Santa, candy canes, and more with a lot of sprinkles and many colors which he loves. Another one of his favorites, is the exquisite jam filled cookie. Santa’s concluding favorite cookie is the oatmeal raisin cookies because he claims that it’s healthy and contains a multitude of fiber. Santa prefers having nutritional facts about his cookies like the calories, total fat, sugar, and protein per serving. Most of Santa’s favorite cookies are the classics.

In addition to the history behind leaving cookies for Santa, cookie facts from the past also contribute to this tradition. For example, Santa Claus eats over 300 million cookies on Christmas eve; that’s about two bites per cookie. Also, Christmas cookies were first invented to test the temperature of an oven. Over half of American homes in the United States bake chocolate chip cookies. The final fact about Christmas cookies, is that gingerbread men were illegal in some places of the United States during the time period of 1517 to 1648. These facts have taken part in the society today by having people bake cookies for Santa in several decades and celebrating the arrival of Santa Claus.

Overall, The tradition is a very important part of people’s lives during the Christmas holidays. Children to this day still create colorful cookies for Santa Claus even though the tradition started all the way dating back to the Great Depression. The one and only tradition of leaving milk and cookies for Santa is still alive and thriving while creating warm memories for generations to come.
