My Fourth Grade Teacher

What are some reading and writing skills that I learned from my fourth-grade teacher? Someone who taught me how to read and write was my fourth-grade teacher Ms. Asamoah. She was a great teacher that cared about the importance of her student's success in their education. She encouraged me to make reading a habit to myself and helped me get better in reading and writing. As a kid, I always concentrated on playing more than focusing on learning how to improve my reading and writing skills. She once told me something that I still use to keep me from too much distractions. Whenever I start to get distracted in something that involves playing around, she said, “all work and no play makes just a dull boy, all play and no work makes just a lazy boy, there is time to play and there is time to work only foolish people play all the time”. This message she told me is one thing that has taught me what I should expect of myself as a student from things I should do and not do. The way I behaved at home also played a part as to why my fourth-grade teacher told me the message she said, because of the good relationship she had with my mom as teachers. She mostly got complains of me about playing a lot and not concentrating or showing improvement towards my reading and writing practices at home. She then told me that if I concentrate, and show effort in my reading and writing, she will be willing to give up her time to stay after school with me every day to make sure that I'm able to read anything I approach fluently and be precise in writing. Some people say continuous practice in doing something could affect the way you perform later. I think practicing continuously is an opportunity, because it helps you learn more and improve on mistakes.

Eventually, complains of me in school and at home about not completing my assignments were things that really bordered me in class. I wasn’t the type of student that did what was expected of him or her to be done when it came to assignments. I was lazy and didn’t know how to read fluently and most of the time I wouldn’t write complete sentences. She noticed my reading and writing skills weren’t strong, so she told my mom. She figured out a way that would help increase my reading and writing skills. One time during lunch, she called me, sat down with me, and advised me about her wanting me to succeed in my education. I took her advice to stay after school, so she could help me improve in reading and writing. She stayed after with me even on Fridays when everyone else was thinking about spending their weekend.

Furthermore, since then she always checked on me during class to see how I was doing on my assignments. On some she will pick some books we will read together, then she will let me read the book again by myself and write a short summary of what I read to see if I was focused on the what I read previously with her. I began to experience some improvements throughout remainder of the school year from the advice she gave me about her willing to give up her time to stay after school and help me improve my skills in reading and writing. On other days, as I progressed, she will pick a book, read it to me then she would pick certain sentences from it. I would have to listen to her read them, while I wrote them with correct punctuations, proper nouns, etc. As my skills progressed, she began to challenge me by picking words from books I previously read. She would then test me on spelling certain words that she felt could be useful in my writing.

In Conclusion, with my fourth grader teachers’ encouragement and advise, I can express my ideas and thoughts on many things. It is an opportunity that has created an advantage to me in my education from then until now. The help of my teacher and my effort has really changed who I am today, because without her willingness and encouragement I wouldn’t have known how I would have improved in reading and writing. With her help since then, I have been able to create a reading habit for myself to my own benefit that helps me in life.

What Makes a Good Teacher?

What makes a good teacher? The teaching profession today has greatly advanced and changed due to the demanding and calling characteristic of teachings. Teachers are not only trusted to bring out the personalities of the young people but the world is highly concerned with quality of work being delivered by the teachers and their output. Educating the young ones is also one of the most demanding duties It requires commitment, strong devotion and willingness to help the young learn properly. It calls for one possess skills like; class control, wider mastery of subject matter in his or her area of specialization.

To begin with, the zeal to educate the young nation and possession of adequate proficiency of the material. During their training in the teacher training centerss, the teacher gains enough knowledge to enable him execute his duties effectively. Committed teachers go extra miles to research further to be equipped. Building and keeping the profession up to date is one of the feature that defines a good teacher. Serious teacher do not rely on the outdated information and routine ways of teaching, they keep updating themselves professionally in order to deliver quality services to their students during the teaching-learning process. Love and passion towards a subject enables the teacher to search for knowledge in their subject area and thus the teacher remains updated.

In addition, being friendly and approachable enhances the teacher’s position and relation with students. Teachers are facilitators of teaching-learning process that is meant to impart knowledge and skills to the students. This calls for the good teacher to be sociable , therefore they have to be friendly and easily accessible to the student . the closeness between the teacher and his students creates a good interactive environment for teaching and learning.

However, the capability of a teacher to organize and put in place the learning-teaching materials in place in the right time enables the teacher to achieve the lesson plan set objectives. A good teacher takes his time before and even after the actual classroom teaching designing the schemes of work, records of work, lesson plans and researching to gather new knowledge available in their respective subjects of specialization. The core business of a committed teacher is to bring out the personalities of the young people by imparting the appropriate knowledge and skills desired and required by the student to function normally in the society. Good teachers work together , help each other and they too work closely with the students since they are the main target in teaching and learning process.

Moreover, students’ entanglement in teaching is a quality of a good teacher. This highly relies on the teacher’s ability to choose wisely the methods of teaching with regard to the content to that is supposed to be delivered. In most cases the student centered approach of teaching gives a large room for the learners to participate actively in the teaching-process. The employment of learner oriented methods of teaching increases the intractability of the teacher and the students thus bringing out the teachers accessibility close to the students. Good teachers are concerned with making their content unique and appealing. Creativity enables a good teacher to innovate teaching and learning materials that help brake the monotonous and routine teaching process and make learning interesting every time thus creating the thirst for learning more among the students

Nevertheless, excellent communication skills form the base a good and a focused teacher. A teacher with eloquent communication skills will be able to pass the intended content effectively and in the most efficient way. The capability to listen carefully enables the teacher to respond to his students correctly and at some point detect when they are not following up the lesson attentively and communicate back the issue of concern or areas that the students do not seem to understand very well. During the curriculum interactive phase, ( the actual implementation of the curriculum) teaching, good communication skills plays the key role in passing the information to the students while imparting the knowledge and skills to the learners.

In brief, a good teacher develops good social bonds with their students to reduce the distance between them and the students. Student’s success and performance depends largely on teacher-student relation. (Ashley Peterson 2016) says that it does not matter how much a teacher knows or the teaching methods but what matters a lot is the teacher’s ability to build up relationships and use the relationship to facilitate understanding.

Teachers of the Inner Chambers: Women and Culture in Seventeenth-Century

China argues that the increase in female literacy during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties allowed elite women to create a rich culture and space of their own even under the constraints of Confucian code. During this time, socioeconomic and intellectual changes in the gentry community enabled women to become more visible in a male dominated world, and to also expand their accepted gender roles often bending what was considered appropriate for the prestigious woman. The most important of changes, specified by Ko, included a flourishing of commercial printing, the rise of a reading public especially among girls and women, a new emphasis on emotions, the newfound importance of women's education, and, the emergence of new definitions of womanhood.

One of the first major advents of female literacy was that they now had a social world of other readers that they could interact with. Instead of staying at home and only taking care of their house and family, many women were now reading poetry and stories, and had other women to discuss the literature with. This helped build up interpersonal relationships and social circles that most likely would not have existed before literacy. On top of the social aspects of literacy, it also gave many women a chance to find a mental escape from their daily lives. Now, women could immerse themselves in the worlds of stories or in the flowing verses of a poem. While in the past, many women that were either talented or educated would find their husbands in arranged marriages an unfit partner, at least intellectually. These women could now seek out other likeminded women to cope with the situation they were in, instead of carrying the burden alone. The ideas within this book are very similar to Margery Wolf’s essay on the uterine family and female communities. Even in Seventieth century China, woman found solace and support in other women around them.

As female literacy increased, so too did the woman’s place in China. Besides being able to read and having social circles of likeminded readers, women were now bringing money into the house, often on levels equal to or surpassing their male counterparts. This social status increase made many men uncomfortable, so more importance was put on the idea of beauty (mei) when it came to womanhood, even among those women who were educated. These labels and the obsession with beauty in women came forth out of need to create order out of “gender confusion.” Despite the need to further define the male and female spheres, women were able to enter the public realm without jeopardizing their roles as dutiful, virtuous wives.

One notable woman in Ko’s histories was Lu Shengji; a poet who was in a “phoenix and crow” marriage. She was an intelligent, respectable woman who married a man that was of gentry pedigree but otherwise unremarkable. Because she was a loyal wife, obedient daughter, and a member of the gentry herself she was considered respectable, but despite that, she was remembered for her poetry and not for her husband or values. Literate women like Lu Shengji negotiated between their Confucian calling to be a domestic woman and their potential to support their families through their public professions. Often, this was accepted among the community because women were able to justify their public profession in Confucian rhetoric of fulfilling their wifely duties.

On top of their emerging success as writers, many educated women used foot binding to embrace femininity. Foot binding became increasingly popular in the seventeenth century and would remain a part of Chinese culture well into the twentieth century. While the process made their feet severely handicapped, this gave them gentry women a release from household work and allowed them to focus more on their preferred endeavors. Foot binding was perpetuated almost solely with the help of women themselves. Because of this new idea of beauty and privilege, mothers would bind their daughter’s feet at a young age. The idea that foot binding meant safety, education, and a good life for their daughters meant women would uphold the tradition for centuries. Without the cooperation of women, foot binding would not have lasted as long as it did. Because of this, Ko explains, women were now spending their time reading. They came to understand how much power the Confucian tradition gave them as a domestic guardian. Instead of laboring around the house, they could use their knowledge to change things around them. By being vigilant in their Inner Chambers, women could restructure the public and private domains that they existed within.

The Greatest Teacher

Contents

In August of 1992, I was 10 years old going into the fourth grade. I was held back when I was younger due to my family moving so many times. I would be a fourth grader who attended C.T.Reed Elementary school, in Greenbelt, Maryland. That entire summer I wished and prayed that I would get my favorite fourth grade teacher and it would be Miss Susan Finch. Miss Finch was a warm, nurturing, beautiful and graceful woman who would encourage every student even if they were not her student or even in a different grade. She was also a teacher who always wore snow white reebok classics everyday. It didn't matter the weather. She loved and cared about any and all students.

As always like clockwork, two weeks before school started there was a letter that came in the mail informing parents and guardians of which class and teacher each student would be assigned too for the following year. I harassed my mom everyday until it finally arrived in the mail. I was extremely nervous before my mom opened the letter, because I knew that letter contained the name of my future fourth grade teacher. My mom opened the letter, read it quietly to herself and then loudly she said” drum roll please” . I was staring at her as if I thought she was joking and she blurted out you got Miss Finch! I remember jumping up and down screaming so loud i lost most of my voice.

Page 2

The first day of school had arrived and I got up early that morning to make sure my new clothes and shoes I begged my mom to buy me which were snow white reebok classics were laid out and ready for me to wear. I wanted to look my best for my new fourth grade teacher Miss Finch.

We lined up,found our home room class and I remember waiting in line for lunch that day and as Miss Finch was doing a student headcount, she walked past me and said “ nice shoes”. That made my day, week, and year.

Later that fall I saw Miss Finch after school posting flyers around school for the upcoming spelling bee. I was somewhat of a shy kid who would only show my true personality around my family and cousins when we would see them at birthdays or gatherings. So I asked Miss Finch who could participate in this spelling bee and her reply was any student in the school, would you like to sign up?” I froze up and didn't think and blurted out “Yes of Course I can”.

In the next few weeks that followed I practiced all of my words from my study sheets and random words I would have my mom pick out from my elementary school Scholastic dictionary I bought from the book fair from the year before. Miss Finch would stay after school with me twice a week in her classroom, where she would help me by saying a word sometimes once, twice or even a third if i needed her to then she would also give the definition. She would have the greatest snacks . There would be a different variety of sweet ,salty, and sour snacks when we practiced.

Page 3

I had a vivid imagination when I was younger and I thought to myself I get smarter and smarter everytime I would eat her snacks. We practiced every Tuesday and Thursday until the school wide spelling bee.

I didn’t win the school wide spelling bee that year, but I did make it to the fifth round out of ten. I was satisfied knowing that I made it that far without passing out or throwing up from my anxiety. I was extremely thankful that Miss Finch took the time to encourage me and teach me patience, kindness, and to believe in myself to overcome my shyness. Even now she is one of my top five favorite teachers who inspired me to try new thing and step outside my box.

Math Teacher

Growing up I knew that I wanted to do something that involved helping people because I always felt great about myself whenever I helped somebody. I know what you’re thinking right now “there are over hundred that involve helping people other than being a math teacher” and your right. What really pushed me to wanted to become a teacher was my grandma watching her teach English to her third-grade students was moments where I could picture myself teaching a class. The reason I choose math is because it’s always been my subject in school and just the feeling of working though a equation and the excitement you get when you finally get the answer.

Throughout this paper I will tell you about the history of Mathematics and some great mathematicians. What is a mathematician and what it takes to be one. Also, I will argue, to claim an education means to put the effort, research and time into learning with the purpose of being able to create a better future not just for myself but also for the education of other. Also, with the information acquired, especially in my specific interest in becoming a math teacher I will also argue to claim membership within the discourse community of mathematics. Which will also require effort, time and research into the expectations that must be met to fulfil the purpose in creating a better future.

If I’m going to do a research paper about mathematics first, we must talk about what mathematics is. “Mathematics is a science, like physics or astronomy; it constitutes a body of established facts, achieved by a reliable method, verified by practice, and agreed on by a consensus of qualified experts; its subject matter is ideas, concepts, which exist only in the shared consciousness of human beings. Thus, it is both a science and a “humanity.” It is about mental objects with reproducible properties” – Reuben Hersh.

Nobody really knows who created math, but Pythagoras of Samos is credited for the discovery of mathematics. Pythagoras was an Ionian Greek philosopher and the eponymous founder of the Pythagoreanism movement. His teachings influenced great philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle and they are still used today also the Pythagorean theorem is named after him. “Pythagoreanism is the philosophy of the ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras (ca. 570 – ca. 490 BCE), which prescribed a highly structured way of life and espoused the doctrine of metempsychosis (transmigration of the soul after death into a new body, human or animal)” -Carl Huffman Stanford University.

(Ionian- A member of an ancient Hellenic people inhabiting Attica, parts of western Asia Minor, and the Aegean islands in preclassical and classical times)

(Eponymous- Being the person or thing for whom or which something is named)

Another great mathematician was Nicholas Copernicus was a Renaissance-era mathematician and astronomer, known for discovering that the sun doesn’t orbit the around earth and how he went against great philosophers Aristotle and Ptolemy theologian. (The Renaissance is a period in European history, between the 14th and 17th centuries)

Sir Isaac Newton also was an mathematician, astronomer, theologian, author and physicist and he is known as one the best scientist that ever lived and for his three laws of motion and the one of the founders for calculus. Also known for his great quotes related to math and astronomy and even life lessons. “Genius is patience” – Sir Isaac Newton

(Theologian- a person who engages or is an expert in theology)

(Theology is the critical study of the nature of the divine)

After I looked at different mathematicians the real question, I needed to know was what gives someone the right to call themselves a Mathematician. The dictionary definition of a mathematician is a expert or student of the study of mathematics or someone that uses the knowledge of math to solve mathematical problems.

Becoming a math teacher takes a lot of work hard and dedication, not only do you have to finish four years of college to receive a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. But in order to become a teacher you need a undergraduate degree in education or you can take a teacher training program. I would recommend taking a teacher training program because their easier and you can do it online and it cost less money then returning to school just to get a undergrad in education.

When I started writing this paper, I never heard of the word discourse community and after doing research about it I found out that a discourse community is a group of people that share similar values and goals and have a similar written or spoken form of communication. Also, while researching about discourse communities I found out that math doesn’t really have its own discourse community it’s part of the writer’s community because Mathematicians write books and journals which make them writers. “A math writer deals with hard facts and concrete evidences, but at the end of the day he is still trying to write a book. Even a mathematician has to adhere to certain guidelines of the writing world”. - Little, Miles, Christopher F.C. Jordens, and Emma-Jane Sayers. "Discourse Communities and The Discourse of Experience." Mathematises can also, a part of the discourse community of teacher’s because Mathematicians also teach classes which has multiple forms of communication. The math discourse community isn’t big it’s kind of a small group of people that just solve problems and talks about different subjects in math.

I feel like claiming a education is when you won’t let anything stop you from getting the education you want. When Adrienne rich wrote to claim an education, she was talking to women telling them to claim their education instead of receiving one. “One of the dictionary definitions of the verb "to claim" is: to take as the rightful owner; to assert in the face of possible contradiction. "To receive" is to come into possession of: to act as receptacle or container for; to accept as authoritative or true”- Adrienne Rich convocation of Douglass College, 1977. She basically wanted women to take responsibility for their education to create a better future. I agree that you should take responsibility for your education rather than just going to class and doing nothing just to get a diploma. In order for me to claim an education I will di anything I can to get to my goal in becoming a math teacher. Also, by keeping my future in mind, which motivates me to claim my education.

In conclusion after writing this research paper I have argued that to claim an education means to put the effort, research and time into learning with the purpose of being able to create a better future not just for myself but also for the education of other. Also, with the information acquired, especially in my specific interest in becoming a math teacher and I have also argued to claim membership within the discourse community of mathematics. Which will also require effort, time and research into the expectations that must be met to fulfil the purpose in creating a better future.

Same Sex Marriage and Children

Same sex marriage is a controversial topic debated frequently due to the perspectives of every individual. Although Gay marriage is more openly accepted, there are still some issues, and debates arising on whether Same sex marriage provides an acceptable precedent for children and teens in regards to causing unintended consequences for them. Many people have been brought up to believe that being attracted to a person from the same sex is unethical, and believe that couples do not know how to raise a baby, and that it causes consequences for the child growing up. People should be more open to same sex marriages, and let people decide who they want to be. Marriage throughout the years has been seen as the unity between a man and a woman.

For many it was seen as a big culture change not only morally, but religiously as well, and that is why parts of the population believe that the ability to procreate is solemnly available for heterosexual couples. Their beliefs are derived from religion, because same sex marriage goes against their scriptures which is why they worry that the upbringing of children conceived or adopted by these couples may be at risk for uncalled for consequences like bullying, or not having a mom or dad figure like most children with heterosexual parents would. Connections with a father figure and/or mother figure are very important in a traditional religious household because many aspects that have to do with gender are considered private. Other than not having a person to rely on with emotional support children have to endure criticism from the people surrounding them because of their personal beliefs and it may be their traditions as well. People with stricter views in regards to religion believe that this would not be an issue if all couples would be heterosexual. Their opinion is that the children require both figures in order for the family to be triumphant.

Although 37% of americans oppose same sex marriage 62% support same-sex marriage. This being based on their desire to implement equality, the majority of the population have accepted the evolving of society as a whole in regards to sexual orientation, regardless of their religion or the traditions they follow. The majority do not view sexuality as an interference in raising a child, as they assimilated the present-day definition of a couple. Society has begun to see the benefits rather than just the cons of homosexuals raising children. Gay parents also have the right to raise a child in a loving environment, many of them do because they lacked they may have lacked that connection with their parents or family members. Although it might seem different seeing same sex couples raise a child that does not take away from their parenting skills and what they want for their family. 62% of those americans who support same sex marriage believe that parents of same sex can give their family the same needs as an opposite sex couple. Parents can give their offspring a new way to see life, rather than following stricter traditions. Allowing their offspring to see the world through a different perspective.

Online Dating Statistics

Statistics show that 57% of online daters lie to each other about various aspects of their life and this is just one downfall to online dating (Kaspersky 2018). First of all, people may present themselves differently online. Secondly, it is more difficult to assess a match without physical interaction. Lastly, you are more likely to meet a partner through a friend. Online dating is harmful to society because it allows people to be deceptive, it is often confusing and ineffective, and for most, disheartening.

The way people present themselves online has a big impact on how others perceive you, which is why a lot of people present themselves differently. Studies show that 53% of US participants admitted to having lied in their online dating profile (Psychology Today 2018). It is proven that women lie more than men on their dating profiles, most lies involving looks, they might use pictures that are not of themselves or that are from previous years ago and no longer look like their present selves. A key factor that men lie about is their financial situation. They say they have a better job then they actually do, meaning they make more money than in reality; 40% of men indicated that they did this (Psychology Today 2018). This goes to show the saying “looks are deceiving” is real.

Since dating online is nothing but talking through a screen, it lacks the basic fundamentals needed to assess a partner, which is physical interaction. Communicating only through a screen does not provide enough information that you get from face to face interaction. For example, touching can not be accomplished through a screen, and communicating online may have and unemotional, artificial quality. Secondly, people will judge you first on appearance. This one is obvious because if you have an exotic name and a beautiful picture on your profile, you are more likely to get a higher number of requests for people wanting to talk to you and meet up. Having met someone in person will immediately show you if you have chemistry and/or “click” with the person, versus online where you can not see facial expressions or reactions.

Studies show that you are more likely to meet a match through a friend rather than online. 63% of married couples meet their partner through a friend (eharmony 2018). Meeting a partner through a friend is generally a better method considering the friend knows each person individually and would know if their personalities will match or not. Also the ones going on the date will feel more comfortable with each other since they know their friend would never set them up with someone who could possibly be dangerous. Finding a match through a friend is a much more safe and easy alternative to the online dating world.

Online dating is harmful to society because it allows people to be deceptive, it’s often confusing and ineffective and for most, disheartening. People could present themselves to be a completely different person. Assessing a match without the basic fundamentals you get from face to face interactions such as touching (physical interaction) can make it hard to determine whether you are interested in this person or not. The rates are higher of people having successful relationships when they are introduced through a friend rather than online. All these factors are to be considered if you are thinking about joining the online dating world.

Teacher’s Pay

Teachers have an imperative role in our society, they play a major part in the lives of children by assisting them to acquire the knowledge they need.Teachers have always been shaping the future by educating their students with passion and providing support. In our society today teachers don’t get the appreciation, respect and money they deserve. There is a major misconception in our society where we seem to overlook the teacher’s duties and the amount of pressure they face each day. Teachers deserve to be paid a reasonable rate and given appreciation for their hard work .Many people would agree that teachers are relied on to educate and guide their students to the best of opportunities. We extremely depend on teachers to shape children into bright and well educated individuals. People don't get into teaching for the higher pay rates ,but instead they enter this field because of their passion to pass on knowledge and make a difference in children’s lives. Teachers in victoria earn about $60,000in their first year compared to a electricinist who makes up to $80,000 a year which is a very shocking amount. Teachers are expected to teach, provide, support and work outside hours.

As our generation continues to grow the demand on teachers skills increases, they are expected to prepare students for the future and counsel them.Teachers use counseling techniques daily and our society fails to realize that they are, an example of this behavior is when students misbehave teachers approach with respect and discuss how they can respond to the situation differently, that is a basic form of cognitive behavioural therapy. Teachers are not trained to counsel students, however they are expected to deal with issues outside their field without proper preparation. As fellow citizens of our country we want the best education for our children, but fail to see the amount of responsibilities teachers are expected to fulfil and how little they are paid, by showing support and understanding of the relevance of teachers in our children’s lives we could make a difference. Teachers are extremely involved in our children's lives they are anticipated to teach students skills that will shape them into well educated and responsible citizens of our society. A Recent study conducted by the Australian Government in 2014 on the latest figure from the Australian bureau of statistics suggests that 53% of people who hold a teaching degree do not currently work in an education field. This is an outrageous number of teachers leaving the field due to many reasons such as unsatisfactory pay rates, we do not have to make teachers choose between their passion and income.

Teachers are not only expected to educate, but also work an absurd measure of hours outside their work hours.Teachers in Australia work approximately 60 hours a week according to a recent survey by the AEU,compared to a physiotherapist who typically works 37 hours a week and gets paid $64,416 annually. We tend to rely on teachers to complete tasks and plan lessons outside their work hours to give our children the best opportunities which in other professions would not be tolerated. Majority of professions in Australia get the appreciation and money for the time spend working over their job expectancy, while teachers feel the duty to work overtime without pay.

Teaching isn't as straightforward as it is made out to be, many people assume that teachers have it easy and finish early, but fail to see how teachers go above and beyond their job expectancy to meet students needs and spend countless unpaid hours marking, planning, and counseling students with issues. A large percentage of our society assumes that becoming a teacher is a simple task, requiring few years of training and you're on your way to changing many lives, but the reality is that becoming a teacher requires a lot of time and investment. To become an Australian qualified teacher it requires at least an overall 70 study score and 4 years in Uni. Universities in Australia are extremely overpriced and require a payment of $27,900 it is approximately half of what a qualified teacher would generally make in their first year of teaching. After a person completes their Uni course they are also required to undertake a police background check.A teacher's role in our society is extremely important; they educate, support and provide support for our children and their importance needs to be valued and esteemed. As fellow citizens of our country we need to support their hard work and demand for the pay rates they deserve.

How Technology has Changed Dating

The creation of technology has changed the way we connect and talk with others in our culture and dating is no different. The popularity of smartphones mean we are always reachable, social media allows others to get to know us before we have even met, and dating apps give us an plenty of choices in a satisfactory partner or partners. How did your parents meet? Mine met at the mall and my father took one look at my mother and said he just had to get to know her. With the innovation of social media it is difficult to imagine anyone going on a blind date or talking to someone at the mall again and why would they need to? We not only have a abundance of information on pretty much everyone through social media only a click away but how and where we meet future partners is changing.

Before the arrival of online dating, meeting people was pretty much through friends or out on a Saturday night. As a adolescence, I would look forward to the weekend just so I could meet a new people especially boys. In classic dating, people would be thrown together with people who they might not necessarily have had anything in common with. But when today’s daters are set out on a hunt to uncover friendships or romances, they can specify exactly who they are open to mixing with. This has been seen a powerful rise in the use of online dating to bring together more openings in groups, such as those seeking same-sex relationships, or who wish to indicate different interests, such as age-gap dating, or any number of possibilities.

Before people looking for partners had a range of ways to choose from. They might form dates with co-workers, or bump into casual single people in the bars or nightclubs. Meeting people were often arranged by friend of a friend or family members. If anyone wanted to be more dedicated in looking for a relationship, he or she could post an nameless ad in their local newspaper’s column. But this all began to change in the early 1990s with the arrival of some of the first dating sites. The way online dating has impressed world the most is in its skill to create a close network of relationships, giving people with a diverse range of interests people to make connections with. This allows people to get in touch with complete strangers within the click of a few buttons on the keyboard or smartphone wherever they happen to be at that particular moment in time. One area where online dating has taken full advantage of social networking is in giving site customers the ability to decide exactly who they wish to get to know better.

Online Dating – Ineffective Alternative

I think this is an easy decision positive improvement. Interestingly, it's not internet dating—it's web based gathering individuals pursued by in-person dating. I think the expression ""internet dating"" is a piece of the issue and makes individuals who don't realize much about it think it alludes to individuals shaping whole connections on the web and just gathering face to face a lot later.

Just considered as web based gathering individuals, it bodes well. I've officially communicated my contention for why in two posts: one on the fact that it is so basic to locate the correct life accomplice and how genuinely we should take that mission, and another on why going to bars is a horrendous educational affair. The initial phase in winding up with the opportune individual is meeting the perfect individual, and for something so imperative in our lives, we've had no genuine framework for doing it proficiently and wisely. For socially unusual or on edge or timid individuals, endeavoring to meet an outsider in broad daylight is a bad dream, and notwithstanding for somebody enchanting and friendly, it's a tiring errand that requires a great deal of good fortune. The elective that frequently happens is meeting somebody through companions, which can work, however it's restricting yourself to single individuals your dearest loved ones happen to know.

Powerful dating certainly needs to happen face to face, a similar way your granddad did it, however I see no valid justification why meeting individuals to date in any case can't be deliberate and proficient. Indeed, there's something uncommon about the sentiment of meeting somebody out in the open and becoming friends immediately, however that once in a while occurs—and for the most essential mission in the vast majority of our lives, it looks bad to squash your capacity to meet extraordinary individuals to attempt a first date with in light of the fact that it's not as great a story to have met them on the web. I have a companion that goes on a few first dates each week with individuals he definitely knows are conceivably great identity and physical counterparts for him—that is the means by which you locate the perfect individual, and good fortunes staying aware of him meeting individuals as it was done in the good 'ol days. Furthermore, for individuals who have no enthusiasm for genuine dating and simply need to discover individuals to attach with? Online is a greatly improved approach to achieve that as well.

With respect to the current web based dating choices—they strike me as a decent first split at this by humankind, yet the sort of thing we'll altogether enhance to the point where the manner in which it was done in 2014 will appear to be exceptionally obsolete in not very numerous years. Since the disgrace has reduced, you realize this industry will race ahead on the grounds that there's such a great amount of cash to be made by whoever can be imaginative. So in 2030, I think we'll be some place altogether different, and I believe the present nine-year-olds will have extremely staggering methods for discovering love when they're 25. Perhaps I'm a future difficult elderly person about dating being face to face, however I trust that requirements to remain as such and the development in this industry should sharpen in more on improving the way toward getting the correct perfect individuals on first dates with one another—that is its activity.

Racism Around America

Racism springs from ignorance. Racism is everywhere around America. We are the most diverse country in the world but we don't act like it. Racism is caused by the media the environment and what you are taught by your family.

I believe that racism had become the norm in the media mostly social media and the internet. This new digital environment is a perfect place for men and women to get racially harassed because they don't sometimes never know who is on the other side of the screen. There are countless people getting harassed by people because of the color of their skin for their religion they show in pictures for their description of themselves. Racial slurs on social media are the norm because I asked some of my friends and we all see racist memes and “funny” videos on social media everyday just people trying to get a like on something that's not funny and actually really offensive to some people of a different color for religion. As a result the media has a big part in the racism we see and here today. But the Media isn't the only thing contributing to racism in America the environment and are communities are too.

The environment in communities and neighborhoods are a big part of the racism in America. Studies have shown that black women are three times more likely to die from childbirth and studies have shown that people of color experience worse health outcomes than white people. That is also because of the segregated communities like black communities and white communities it is proven that white communities have better opportunities than the colored peoples opportunities so colored people can’t get as good of an education. Colored peoples environment from white peoples environment can be very different and Flint, Michigan water crisis is just an example. Flint, Michigan is having a problem where their water isn't clean so anytime it comes out of a foucate it's just brown and dirty and it's been like this for generations and it is happening in this colored community and it is still like this today. The environment contributes to a lot of racism in America but people always forget that these things can be taught to by families for other relatives even siblings.

Racism is also taught in families who have different beliefs and who teach their kid that one race for religion is better which is not true. It's not a surprise that a lot of parents manipulate and teach their kids things and put stuff in their head but those kids think that way at an early age so they may think that way all through adulthood but when there now an adult they may open there eyes more so it's possible that they realize we are all equal. A Lot of kids think that they need to believe what their parents and siblings say so they need to believe them that just another reason why kids are so manipulated easily. These things are taught it's not like kids know what their talking about or even know what their doing, but their are some cases that kids who believe things at a certain age may believe it throughout the rest of their adult life.

These are just some examples of how racism is around America and it may never change. We are the United States yet some people don't act like it.

The Influence of Racism in the USA

Racism has impacted the US for hundreds of years and is continuing to be a key factor in society. It all started long ago when slavery began, whites were saw as the superior race and people of color were made to feel inferior which is why whites made them their slaves. Slave masters used excessive force as a way to instill fear and to force cooperation. These masters saw whipping as a way to flex their power and authority.

There have been many incidents, and continues to be incidents of discrimination from higher powers that are put in place to serve all citizens including but not limited to; the police, teachers, and other government officials. Protesting takes place when the people (citizens of the country) feel that they’re not being heard and are being subject to injustice because of their race or gender. Feelings of injustice is what fuels citizens’ to exercise their first amendment rights; protesting and freedom of speech. Some protests can be violent while others are non-violent.

Many places have held non-peaceful racism protests, that proves to be more effective that violent protests, like Melbourne. Non- peaceful protests are effective in making a difference and reversing behaviors of discrimination for the greater good of the people. A peaceful protest grants the opportunity to present the injustice behavior and to receive a solution. An example of a peaceful protest that has received a solution is Martin Luther King’s protest at Selma. Most peaceful protests turned violent because of outside forces like the police bringing dogs and fire hoses to disturb the peace.

When tensions rise and one party feels threatened everything turns sour and taints the entire protest. The focus or reason of a protest is forgotten when it turns violent which is why many outside forces get involved, to distract the public from its purpose. The protest at Melbourne's racism protest turned violent because men got to aggressive. According to author Jake Nowakoski” About two dozen people dressed in black and wearing masks still managed to interrupt an anti-Islam rally, setting flags alight and scuffling with news photographers”. This is an example of how people interact at peaceful protest and outside forces taints the entire rally distracting what’s trying to be done. (Jake Nowakoski)

Violent protests aren’t the key to freedom, simply because it shows ignorance and proves many stereotypes to be true, here are some things that will make your protest ineffective, “More than 100 anti-racism activists had earlier gathered at the steps of Parliament, chanting lines including No Hate, No Fear, fascist are not welcome here”.(Victoria) Insulting the oppressors is not a way to get them to see things the way the public sees it, it is shameful that people must use derogatory language to get their point across. There are alternative ways to get freedom and liberty, sometimes it’s best to be submissive and not rowdy, especially when an irrational person has a weapon because speaking out sometimes leads to one’s great demise. Life is too precious to die at an early age many people have already died for our freedom, there shouldn’t be any more lives lost over the ignorance of others, we all want to live our life as equal human beings and have true freedom.

Most protests in the African American/ people of color’s community is for equality, The “Peaceful” protest was ineffective because of the violent ways that they have inherited from different generations. Most citizens get arrested or imprisoned for misbehaving at a peaceful protest, in which they are brutally beaten. Melbourne host Racist rallies often, in which nothing changes, I fact things may get worse. According to the author Getty” Some protesters were sprayed with capsicum foam and a scuffle broke out after the two groups hurled abuse at each other and attacked others with flagpoles flying the Australian flag:”(Getty). Things over there get worse by the day, because of their functions. Melbourne has a one of the highest crime rates, because of their protest which are unlawful for humanity.

Recently, in the African American communities a lot of racism has stirred up causing different races too to be bitter. One protest was the Michael Brown protest which was non- peaceful and had a lot of influence on the African American communities. Details occurred about the death because two days later, white police officers were gunned down and killed by a black male. This only made things even worse because that cause a huge riot. The protest resulted in many different fatigues and a lot of hurtful things that still, has an affect on the court case. Gully says” Mr. Wilson is white. Mr. Brown was Black. The demonstrators see the case in terms of racism and police brutality.” This shows that the protests were even worse. Michael Brown has a huge affect on the african american society as a whole and we should have enough respect for someone who stood up for the community.

The African Americans point still haven't gotten their point across yet so the only way to do it is between non-peaceful protests. African Americans should stand up for what's right in society. Brown was an innocent man who went into the store to buy him some cigarillos and was shot by a caucasian policeman; Darien Wilson. “Mr Wilson is white. Mr Brown was black.”(unknown author) The demonstrators see the case in terms of racism and police brutality. This caused people off the top of their head to think that it was a racist “thing”. When they found out that the shooter was found not guilty the people start thinking they were taking up for him and that have to be seen to get their point across which was a protest. It started off peacefully but police came and others which turned it into a non peaceful protest. “Mr Wilson is white. Mr Brown was black. The demonstrators see the case in terms of racism and police brutality.

In conclusion, non peaceful protests are very effective. Racism has existed for centuries, and there is still a chance to minimize it but it will never truly end. Racism should end because by it continuing it continues to segregate the races and the chances for the unity of races and true peace. Racism may also lead to more violence within the countries because of the hatred of someone because of the color of their skin. It may also lead to more violence within the countries. Racism should be stopped because no race is superior to any other race. All races should have equal opportunities as other races. I used three sources that prove that non peaceful protests are effective and they got the result they were looking for.

Prada and Racism

THE STORY

Prada has recently launched a series of figures in the shape of creatures called Pradamalia that were to be sold as handbag keychains in a window display in New York City. One of the trinkets, a cartoonish wooden monkey with brown skin and exaggerated red lips which is closely resembled the blackface “Sambo-like imagery”. One day, one New Yorker spotted the figures in a Prada window display and she decided to share the disgusting and accusing Prada of spreading racist blackface imagery in social media.

On Friday, December 14, 2018, Prada announced to pull the accessories and displays from its stores following complaints that they featured “blackface imagery.”

Response from audience

Chinyere Ezie posted a status in disgust: “I don’t make a lot of public posts, but right now I’m shaking with anger. Today after returning to NYC after a very emotional visit to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture including an exhibit on blackface, I walked past Prada’s Soho storefront only to be confronted with the very same racist and denigrating blackface imagery. I entered the store with a coworker, only to be assaulted with more and more bewildering examples of their Sambo-like imagery.”

Looking back: Places the imagery side by side with historically racist images

Prada’s designer background

Miuccia Prada is head designer of Prada and the founder of its subsidiary Miu Miu. She studied mime at the Teatro Piccolo, following a political science Ph.D. at the University of Milan. In addition, she was a member of the Italian Communist party, where she picketed in Yves Saint Laurent. Her fabulous quotation was that she thought beauty was ‘bourgeois,’ which seems like a good Communist quote. “Every young kid who was vaguely clever was Leftist,” she shrugs today. “So it’s not that I was so special.”

She was the focus on the all-white, homogeneous runways of the 1990s, but in recent years she has been changed for casting models of color in her advertising products.

In September 2018, her art foundation opened “The Black Image Corporation,” conceived by artist Theaster Gates. In order to celebrate the opening of the Milan exhibition, directors Spike Lee and Dee Rees did a panel discussion with Gates on racism in America.

In October 2018, the company introduced the collection called Pradamalia that are similar to cartoon robots. Taken as a group, the characters are a silly mix. Some resemble primates, and some look like dogs, others resemble sci-fi octopuses. The company has been illustrating pictures of these figurines on Instagram for several weeks, and they have been featured in the flagship store in Milan.

Cultural and Semiotic Analysis

Sambo is a character in the 1899 children’s book The Story of Little Black Sambo, written and illustrated by Scottish author Helen Bannerman. The image has deep black skin and oversized red lips that distort and exaggerate African facial features.

The image of Little Black Sambo coincided with Jim Crow laws and etiquette. Many whites stereotyped Blacks to be denied basic human and civil rights, discriminated against in the labor market, barred from many public schools and libraries, subjected to physical violence, and generally treated as second-class citizens. When Little Black Sambo came to America, a white-initiated riot happened in New Orleans. Then, blacks were beaten, their schools and homes destroyed.

In fact, the core ideology of the Sambo caricature is the happy slave. White slave owners molded African-American males into a child who was happy to serve his master. However, the image of Sambo was lazy, lack of intelligence, and, because of this, they were always dependent upon his masters or caretakers. Although Sambo did not the defense for slavery, it extended far beyond these boundaries. This stereotype was transmitted through lyrics, folk sayings, literature and children’s stories. It was disseminated over and over again, shaping the attitudes toward African-Americans for centuries. In fact, “a stereotype may be so consistently transmitted in each generation from parent to child that it seems almost a biological fact” (Boskin, 1986, p. 12).

Misrepresentation in the media and its impact now.

Now, we can see Sambo caricature could give the images of color boys and men being accompanied by lazy and abusing the social welfare programs. Once color people are allowed to participate in these programs, white supremacist politicians make these stereotypes to create ways to exclude them through different suitability tests and working requirements which would make them more freedom to discriminate.

Now, Prada’s figurines also do the same offensive discrimination ways again. What should we respond to them? Just now read the following response of Prada in their Twitter.

Prada’s Response

“Prada Group abhors racist imagery. The Pradamalia are fantasy charms composed of elements of the Prada oeuvre. They are imaginary creatures not intended to have any reference to the real world and certainly not blackface,” the company said.

"Prada Group never had the intention of offending anyone and we abhor all forms of racism and racist imagery. In this interest, we will withdraw the characters in question from display and circulation."

Let us think more deeper - Marketing Analysis?

Here is a question, is Prada company intentionally creating content (figurines) that will cause viral online?

I have doubt about that Prada releasing these racially insensitive figurines are simply unaware. Over the past ten years of Twitter's existence, something is crystal clear. Black Twitter has emerged as a force to drive attention to the issues ignored by mainstream media.

By means of hashtag campaigns (now is #StopBlackface, #BoycottPrada), now I have a question, is Prada company intentionally hoping to draw the movements like Black Twitter to bring more attention to their brands?

The cycle is obviously repetitive: A brand displays offensive material, the online community responds with outrage, and then the media covers it. Finally, the brand pulls down the offensive material, issues an apology and everyone goes back to normal. Racism may become a marketing tool for brands.

What should we do now?

We should refuse to engage in any games, refuse to give any chance to treat black history as a fashion statement.
