Christopher Columbus was an very important man through the role he played in our history. Columbus was a smart young man whose accomplishments soon led to the the discovery of the Americas. Columbus isn't originally from the Americas. His life was full of adventures and exploration. Columbus is one of the most famous explorers in the history of the world.

Christopher Columbus was born in the city of Genoa, Italy, on October 31, in 1451. He was born the oldest of a Christian household with his many siblings: Bartolomeo, Bianchinetta, Giacomo, Giovanni, and Pellegrino. Columbus was the son of a wool merchant, Domenico Colombo and mother Susanna Fontanarossa. When Columbus became a teenager, he earned a job on a merchant ship where he went to sea for a while. The job lasted until 1470. Then Columbus traveled to Lisbon, where he studied mathematics, astronomy, cartography, and navigation.

In 1476, Columbus traveled to Portugal where he set up a mapmaking business with one of his younger brother. There three years later, Columbus married a woman named Felipa Perestrello Moniz. A year after they had a son named Diego. Diego's mother died a few years after she gave birth to him. As, the years passed Christopher came along with a second son named Fernando who was born in 1488, by Beatriz Enriquez de Arana.

Columbus came up with a plan through an interesting process. His plan was to reach Asia by traveling west. Portugal rejected Columbus's plan. Christopher then gathered all his belongings and left for Spain which was ruled jointly by the monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella. In April 1492, the couple approved Columbus's plan. Columbus then begun to plan his voyage.

In September 1492, Christopher set out on the Santa Maria which was followed by two more of his ships, the Nina and Pinta. The three ships carried ninety crew members on deck each. That year in the month of October, the ships landed on a small island called the San Salvador in the Caribbean Sea. Today October 12, is celebrated every year as Columbus Day. Through his voyages trying to find a easier route to Asia, Columbus found the Americas and that changed the Europeans forever.

In 1502, Columbus tried to find a easier way to Asia one more time on a voyage with his son Ferdinand. The two ships they traveled on were stranded on a beach in Jamaica, because of their leaks. The crew was stranded for about a year until they were rescued. They returned back to Spain in 1504. Two years later Columbus died in May on the twentieth.

After Christopher Columbus's teenage years he traveled and explored through his voyages most of his life. His voyages led to him finding The New World known as the Americas. Columbus changed the European exploration and the world forever. He is one of the most famous explorers of all time.
