Choosing a particular profession is one of the most important decisions that we take in our life. .In my opinion, I would like to focus on a career that is enjoyable, productive, creative and simultaneously allows you to work for the betterment of humanity. I believe, one of the most productive and fulfilling career that provides you various opportunities to help and promote humanity is that of an Orthodontist. The career I have chosen for my future is to become an Orthodontist .I would like to become this because theres is many advantages of becoming an orthodontist that I really love about this career.First of all, there are a lot of opportunities to get a job, help others with their dental care, being able to have a flexible schedule and earn good money.Becoming an Orthodontist requires a lot of hard work and dedication but the factor that will motivate me to face these difficulties is the pleasure I will gain when Im able to change someone's life by creating a beautiful and healthy smile for them and the joy of which could not be expressed.

Orthodontists are trained dentists who concentrate on preventing and correcting dental abnormalities, such as overbites, underbites, jaw issues and crooked and misaligned teeth.I chose this particular career because throughout my childhood I had to visit a dentist many times for correction of misaligned teeth and an underbite that I had. So,my dentist who was also a specialist in the field of orthodontics inspired me deeply as it gave me a vague idea of how I can also bring smile and self confidence back to an individual by providing him with a competent smile again by incorporating the blend of my hand creativity and mental alertness, same as my dentist did for me thus returning me my self esteem and the confidence to smile again .Thus, I found this field very satisfying and fulfilling. For this career you must have strengths in many attributes that are required like active listening, speaking, critical thinking, reading comprehension and my more.I believe that I have a certain skill that would make me fit for the job which would be that I really enjoy learning about biology or chemistry and understand it very well which are subjects that are related to this career.

To begin with, in order to achieve this during high school,I will try to get high B's and A's and maybe try graduate top 10-20% of my class. I will also try to take as many science courses like biology, anatomy or chemistry to help build a foundation for more advanced related studies in college. After so, I will attend the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to get my undergraduate and Bachelors degree which will cost $7,292.When I have done so,I will ask for a transfer to the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston to be part of their School of Dentistry. Tuition and fees there will be about $21,266.After having my certificate in Dentistry I will specialize to become an orthodontist. This means 3 more years after dental school ,in a post doctoral program devoted to the study of orthodontics and I complete a residency to gain practical experience in the instruction.Overall,it will take nearly 10 years to become an orthodontist. In order to advance and practice, I must be licensed by my state(Texas). To receive a dental license, I must graduate from an accredited dental school, successfully complete the written National Board Dental Examinations and pass state clinical tests.

As a beginning orthodontist, long hours are necessary to build a client base and pay the bills. Most appointments are usually about 10 minutes with a few 30-minute appointments intermingled for patients getting braces or specialty care.Orthodontist are very busy everyday for various reasons. On a daily basis, Orthodontists fit dental instruments in patients' mouths to change the position and relationship of teeth and jaws or to realign teeth. They also study diagnostic records, such as medical or dental histories, plaster models of the teeth, photos of a patient's face and teeth, and x-rays, to develop patient treatment plans. Many may think Orthodontist work alone but in reality orthodontic assistants, technicians and receptionists complete the team that ensures all patients are well taken care of and treated.Orthodontist are usually in their offices or consulting room but at times they might travel elsewhere for meetings and trainings.Throughout my research I found out that I will join a growing profession if I choose to become an orthodontist. In fact, according to the Basic Life support, employment of orthodontist is hopefully expected to grow by 21 percent between 2010 and 2020, which is an increase of approximately 1,800 jobs in a ten-year period. In addition, their annual salary is around $228,780.

Lastly a positive aspect of this career is that seeing a beautiful smile and the growth in patient confidence at the end of the process is one of the most personally satisfying rewards of the job and a negative aspect would be pressure, because orthodontists also deal with the stress of facing an unhappy patient or parent if the years of treatment don't result in how they wanted it or expected.
