When it comes to harm, animals are defenseless. That is why there has to be laws that gives them their protection and freedom. Animals have provided us benefits of life. However, history has shown that humans have treated animals poorly and unfairly. Also, humans don't give animals their freedom that they rightfully deserve. There should be an Animal Bill Of Rights because they are more like us than we have ever imagined, they have feelings, and they have suffer from humans long enough.
Animals deserve their Bill Of Rights because they are more like us than we have imagined. According to Jeremy Rifkin, animals have emotions that humans also have: They feel pain, suffer and experience stress, affection, excitement and even love- and these findings are changing how we view animals. (Rifkin 2). This quote clearly says that animals and humans similarly goes through these emotions. Other than that, animals also use their instincts to survive. They always know what to do next in order to keep living. Humans do the same thing but in a different way. Furthermore, animals and humans share these same emotions, but humans treat them like they are nothing but a useless tool.
However, some humans have animals as their loyal, loving pets. These humans see the way how animals treat us and that they deserve to be treated the same way as they do to us. All humans should treat animals like they are a living thing. Animals deserve not only their rights, but their freedom.
In addition, animals deserve their Bill Of Rights is because they have feelings. Unlike humans, animals can not speak on how they feel. They can only express them. So it is up to humans to pay more attention to animals more and give them the attention they crave. According to Ed Yong, he states, All creatures that can feel pain should have a basic moral status. (Yong5). What this quote is clearly saying is that any creature who have emotions should have and keep their rights.
It may look like animals do not show these emotions sometimes, but it's not their fault. At times, animals do not know how to express these emotions. However, they do know how to be calm and be nice to others around them. Sure they attack other animals and humans but that is because they are angry when no attention is given to them.
The final reason for ensuring the Animal Bill Of Rights is because they suffered from humans long enough. Animals are treated like property instead of a living thing. Animals live their lives trapped in a laboratory or a farm. They don't live their lives to the fullest. The reason why is because laboratories experimented on the animals in which later kills them. Farms raise them and force breed with other animals. Farms later on kill the animals and ship them off to stores, restaurants, and companies. Research from an article,Francis S. Collins, show that over 100 millions of animals are being tested each year and that also goes for the millions that are destined to be slaughtered and human consumption. Animals are being forced to die out of their will. Surely humans can fine other resources things to test on rather than animals.
In conclusion, I believe that an Animal Bill Of Rights should be enforced to protect all Animal's freedom. A call to action is for humans to have a sense of humanity and mercy. Animals are obviously treated poorly and unfairly. Humans need to be their voice and issue animal rights.
