Some people have many question about volcanoes. Some of these questions are “How are volcanoes formed”, “Where do volcanoes form”, and “how are volcanoes categorized or grouped”. The next few paragraphs will answer these three questions. The first question was “how are volcanoes formed?” Well volcanoes are formed by little cracks or holes in the ground that eventually get bigger and the magma which is molten rock before it reaches earth’s surface pushes up through the cracks or holes and comes out of the earth’s surface and is now called lava. The passage “Volcanoes” says, that volcanoes are formed when cracks or holes in the earth’s crust appear. As has been noted volcanoes are formed by cracks or holes in the ground. The next question was “ where do volcanoes form?” Volcanoes form on three main places. These places are called “hot spots”, “divergent plate boundaries”, and “convergent plate boundaries.”

According to Ocean Explorer a hotspot is “an area in the Earth’s mantle from which hot plumes rise upward forming volcanoes on the overlying crust.” There is also something called a divergent plate boundary. “A divergent plate is where two of Earth’s plates move away from each other.” Last, there is something called a convergent plate boundary. “A convergent plate boundary is when two of Earth’s plates collide or move toward each other” says the site Ocean Explorer. As you can see, volcanoes form in three different places. Hotspots, divergent plate boundaries, and convergent plate boundaries. The last question was “how are volcanoes categorized or grouped?” There are several steps to grouping or categorizing volcanoes. According to Basic Planet “There are several factors that go into account when attempting to classify a volcano into a group and that includes thing like recent activity, periodicity of eruptions, size, potential impact and others.”There are four different kinds of volcanoes.

These volcanoes are Shield, Cinder Cone, Strato, and Dome volcanoes. Shield volcanoes have big but gentle slopes shaped like a ancient warriors shield. A cinder cone volcano looks kind of like an upside down ice cream cone with no ice cream. A stratovolcano is formed by the lava, cinders, and ashes of an eruption of another volcano. Last, a dome volcano has thick but slow moving lava that forms a very steep sided dome shape. So in conclusion, there are many different ways to group volcanoes and many different kind of volcanoes. As you can see, volcanoes are very exciting. There are many different types of volcanoes. These volcanoes are Shield, Cinder Cone, Strato, And Dome volcanoes. There are also different ways that you can group volcanoes. For example, recent activity, periodicity of eruptions and more. There are many different place that volcanoes form also. These places are convergent and divergent plate boundaries, and hotspot. Volcanoes form very intriguingly. They form when magma rises and breaks a hole in the Earth’s surface. Volcanoes are very exciting in many different ways.
