Ulysses S. Grant was an incredible person who fought for our country to keep it together as one country instead of two separate countries. Not only did he win the civil war he also became a great president. He was a very courageous and incredible person and is well known for his works. He not only had a talent in being an amazing president and general, but also was an incredible horse trainer. He then used this talent as a general in the civil war.
Ulysses S. Grant was the first son of Jesse Root Grant, and Hannah Simpson Grant. He was born in Point Pleasant, Ohio, where he lived for one year, and then moved to Georgetown, Ohio where he lived for the rest of his childhood life with his five siblings, Samuel Simpson, Clara Rachel, Virginia Paine, Orval Lynch, and his youngest sister, Mary Francis. He was educated at the United States Military Academy. At age 22 he got engaged to Julia Dent and married her four years later, because of his military career, they got married later than planned. He also found out that he had a talent for training horses. As a child he would play with his father’s horses in the stables and had a connection with horses his whole life.
Ulysses was known for a lot of amazing things. He was even known for being a horse trainer, because of how he used his talent in the civil war. He was the head general in the war, and he trained a lot of the horses that were used by the soldiers and himself. He was a very famous general, with the Union, in the civil war. He was probably most famous for being the 18th president of the United States of America. He was also known for a couple of quotes he had said, including, “I know no method to secure the repeal of bad or obnoxious laws so effective as their stringent execution.”
Ulysses, as the head general of the Union army in the civil war, won the war. General E. Lee, general of the Confederate army surrendered to Grant at Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia. General Lee was against slavery and probably a lot of other things that caused the civil war and was only fighting to protect his home town Virginia. Ulysses was the youngest president. He had a lot of good accomplishments.
Ulysses was engaged to Julia Dent for four years. He did not know that he would go back to fight when he got engaged, so he had to wait for years while he was in the military. Ulysses had many names. His original name was Hiram Ulysses Grant, then he was mistakenly called Ulysses S. Grant, and he was called that for the rest of his life. He was also called U.S. Grant because it stood for Unconditional Surrender Grant, because of his military career.
Ulysses was a very courageous person who never gave up. He was known for many things. If he had given up he would have never accomplished anything. He was very kind and loving toward his family. He loved his country.
