Independence after a Bloody Civil War

Only 8 years ago the nation of South Sudan split away from Sudan to become its own country. After a year of conflict that had claimed around 2 million lives, the Nairobi Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed that the south could vote to secede. On July 14 the people of South Sudan gather and celebrate the birth of their nation. The government they formed is called a Republic, Representative democracy, Federation, Presidential system, Federal republic government. The president is Salva Kiir Mayardit. South Sudan is similar to USA (United States of America). Both country gained independence after a bloody civil war in there country. They also have a president to represent their country.

South Sudan is home to 64 tribes. In South Sudan when you greet someone you give them a handshake and a tap on the should. Most people live in poverty and many have not had the opportunity to be able to get a education. Culture and tradition are valued more in their culture than education. In their culture they have many traditional dances. The biggest religion in South Sudan is Roman Catholic Christianity. It makes up about 37% of the population. There are over 60 indigenous languages, but the national language is English. The line between males and female is very clear in their culture. Men fight and defend, and women take care of the household.

One of the most important natural resources is the White Nile. The region is also very rich in mineral like petroleum, iron ore, copper, chromium ore, zinc, tungsten, mica, silver, gold, and hydropower. The thing is that South Sudan is one of the poorest country in the world. The country is very weak and not dependable from an economics standpoint. The majority of people work in their community, next is labourers, and then managers.

The salary of an employee in South Sudan is around $3,000 a year. In the united states a good job around $35,000 per year. Our lowest paid employee who are paid minimum wage get about $15,000 a year. That mean that it takes a ? of a year to earn on minimum wage to get what a good employee in South Sudan could earn in a year. This country could be a much richer country if it had the technology that the USA had. They have many rich minerals but no way of producing them. They have petroleum,iron ore, copper, etc. They would have no issue if they could only produce those minerals they could become a great powerful nation.The same story is true with many nations in Africa because of the lack of technology.
