School should start later because students who don't get enough sleep won't be able to effectively pay attention in class, student's will be more likely to be on time to class, and teenagers are supposed to get 8 to 10 hours of sleep a night.
If school started later then we could be more effective in class and better rested for class. Teens wrecks reduced 16% after they started school later instead of early in the morning. Plus most students about 86.5% don't start paying attention till around 3rd hour. Evidence suggest that teenagers are seriously sleep deprived. A recent poll conducted by the National Sleep Foundation found that 60% of children under the age of 18 complained of being tired during the day, according to their parents. 15% said they fell asleep at school during the year.
Improvement in attendance and enrollment rates, increased daytime alertness, and decreased student reported depression. Many experts agree that adolescents require 81/2 to 91/4 hours of sleep each night, however, few actually get that much sleep. With classes in most high schools in the United States starting around 7:20 A.M. high school students tend to rise at about 5:45 or 6 A.M. in order to get ready and catch the bus. It's no wonder that 20 percent of students sleep during their first two hours of school, when their brains and bodies are still in a biological sleep mode.
Waking up early and not having enough time to prepare a breakfast will highly slow down your metabolism. The brain functions very rapidly in the morning require energy, and with no energy from food in the morning because of school starting so late, students may not excel well causing poor results. Studies show that teachers and adults who work in schools only recieve 7 hours of sleep. Many teachers use coffee as a alternative for their long day. Having to wake up and come to school facing dozen of tired adolescents.
In conclusion, starting schools will allow more sleep, and give students additional time to finish work before the school day and positively reduce health injuries and disease as well show massive gains in your report card.
