Black Mothers in the U.S.

Racial mistreatment happens every day in the healthcare systems, most individuals only know the basics of pregnancy, but do you know some of the darker side off this corrupt healthcare system when dealing with pregnancy and mothers a being treated. The amount of evidence on the mistreatment of women during childbirth in health facilities has grown over the years, there is still a lot to be informed about the information is slowing being giving to the public as it develops. African American mothers in the U.S. die at a high rate that is three to four times the rate of none minorities mothers, one of the saddest of all racial mistreatment is the ill treatment of minorities women in the health care systems.

The big percentage that stood out to me was a black woman is 22 percent more likely to die from heart disease than a white woman, but 243 percent more likely to die from pregnancy or childbirth-related causes (ProPublica, Page 3). A study that was published in the American Journal of Public Health in which they reported the connection between a mother's experience of racism and preterm birth go hand in hand. Being pregnant is one thing, having the right health care that will help the overall cost of having a baby is another thing. The healthcare that get deliver to induvial says a great deal about what society thinks of its most vulnerable citizens which in most cases are woman.

African American women suffer at pregnancy or birth at the pace of three to four times the rate of white females – and that has been even for fifty years. No single gene fully explains the racial inequality, but that Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have acknowledged that access to prenatal care will decrease maternal mortality and additional bad pregnancy outcomes.

Most pregnancy-related deaths happen after one living first, and females who do not have prenatal attention are three to four times more likely to die after the living birth than females who attend even one prenatal appoint. These are some the factor that is asked by doctors to women of color, they ask about their housing, income, health habits, these are red flags that can lead to discrimination. It turned out that some doctors only go by the statistics, these racial discrimination questions were more powerful than asking a woman whether or not she smoked cigarettes. These questions set presidents for the amount of discrimination to come in the near future.

Black mothers in the U.S. die at three to four times the rate of white mothers, one of the widest of all racial disparities in women's health. It seems that poorer healthcare and higher-risk pregnancies leave black women vulnerable to complications, and even death. Since up to 40% of those maternal deaths were likely preventable, it would seem that healthcare quality is a likely factor for the increased risk of maternal death (Parker, page 6). The fact that African American woman is treated without the same amount and the type of care being giving to other women is very dishearten. I propose a new solution to this ethical problem, so the main question that need to be seeking out is to understand why so many American women especially black women die, or nearly die from many complications from their pregnancy and childbirth.

More importantly, during pregnancy the mothers and babies are more likely to need close clinical observation. It seems that the women with the highest risk for complications get the lowest quality care because of their background, which is very dishearten. Obviously, there is something that needs to be done to equalize care for pregnant women to lower incomes.

The discussions of racism in any aspect even in healthcare and the services that are being provided will change some day but for now African American women and their families will need the support from love ones as they navigate through their pregnancy and approaches they take for their childbirth experience.

Despite there’s a growing concern, there is a huge scene of neglectful, abusive, and disrespectful treatment of many African American women during childbirth while in the care of many health facilities. There are many evidence on the mistreatment of women during childbirth in health facilities. In most common cases this can affect the mothers and jump start postpartum depression, the ill treatment received in health facilities sometimes have these mother experience feelings of extreme sadness

So how can we reduce this type of prejudice, if you are subjected to racial abuse during a consultation. A surjection for patients would be to ask to change their doctor because they are of a different ethnic origin this will help the patients worries. What needs to happen is that educating staff about what the correct responses to racism and awareness of cultural sensitivity is important to better understand patients. zero tolerance policy ensures that boundaries are clear and everyone, which will include patients and hospital staff as well, knows what is expected
