Marilyn Monroe Biography

Can you imagine being married at 16? Truth be told it happened, and it happened to Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn Monroe went through a lot in her midlife from marriages, divorces and contracts. Marilyn Monroe achieved so much in her life because in the beginning of her life it was really unsuccessful. Then she was a model and became a very successful actress. From being born in 1926 and signed to 20th Century-Fox, Monroe has done so many great things in her life to make her where she wanted to be.

Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1, 1926, in Los Angeles, California. Her name at birth was Norma Jeane Mortenson, but she changed it to Norma Jeane Baker, and then finally to Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn Monroe's mother was mentally unstable, and had an absent father. She spent her childhood in a series of foster homes, and an orphanage. She went to Van Nuys High School in Los Angeles in the early 1940s, and dropped out at the age of fifteen. At the age of sixteen, she married her first love, James Dougherty, but got divorced three years later. After her divorce was final she could not find work as an actress because her contract was not renewed, so Monroe spent her free time taking art classes.

When 20th Century-Fox signed her, it started out really slow, but then it took off like a rocket. In 1950 Monroe was cast in The Asphalt Jungle and All About Eve. From being in these films, she began receiving universal attention and became a true movie star. On January 14, 1954 in San Francisco, California, Monroe married a retired baseball player, Joe DiMaggio. In the fall of 1954 during the filming of Seven Year Itch Marilyn filed for divorce after nine months of marriage. When her divorce was final, Monroe moved to New York to study at the Actors' Studio with Lee Strasberg. When the film Seven Year Itch released Monroe was a huge star and was Hollywood's ultimate sex symbol. While in New York Monroe started dating Arthur Miller and they married in June of 1956. In that same year she also starred in Bus Stop,' and then went to London for several months to film The Prince and the Show Girl. In 1959 she starred in Some like it hot, which is her most successful film. The movie was listed as the greatest American comedy film of all time by the American Film Institute in 2000. Monroe's last film she ever completed was The Misfits in 1961. During filming her last film she divorced Arthur Miller. After this film was completed it was reported that Monroe was a heavy user of prescription pills.

A year later a troubled beauty who failed to find happiness as Hollywood's biggest star, was found dead in her apartment in Brentwood. Marilyn Monroe's death came as a shock to everyone. Her death claimed to be a suicide, but some people didn't think so. A week before her death she told Life Magazine, A sex symbol becomes a thing-I just hate to be a thing. But if I'm going to be a symbol for something, I'd rather have it sex. After her death, Monroe has passed from symbol to phenomenon. Marilyn Monroe has impacted my life by having very little in her childhood and then becoming very successful in her life, even in her after life. This showed everyone, you can put your mind to anything you want to achieve.

Marilyn Monroe shows people that you can start from so small, and get to so big in life, like how she made 24 films in just eight years. Even after her death, she is still so successful and famous. When someone mentions a beautiful blonde, glamorous girl, who looks mysterious, Marilyn Monroe would probably come to mind.
