Van Gogh is one of the greatest Dutch painters right after Rembrandt. But through his life, he was unknown to others. Vincent Willem Van Gogh born on March 30, 185,3 and passed away on July 29,1890. He achieved more than 2,100 works; watercolors, oil paints, drawings, and sketches. Now his paintings are one of the most high-priced in the world.

“Van Gogh was the eldest of six children of a Protestant pastor.” When he was forced to leave school he went to work with one of his uncles were art dealers. He worked for one of them. But later was fired. He committed his life to God after his marriage proposal was rejected. From Eugenie Loyer his landlady’s daughter. When he turned 25 he decides to volunteer to become a preacher to a poor mining village in southeastern Belgium. But left two years later. During that time they called him “Christ of Coal Mines.”

“The Starry Night” was a painting that he did during his time in an asylum, in 1889, Saint-R©my, France. An oil painting that ”echoes the bridge between life and death.” “This morning I saw the countryside from my window a long time before sunrise, with nothing but the morning star, which looked very big,” it was in a letter that he wrote to his brother Theo. “Sunflower” shows wilting yellow sunflowers. He has done more than 42 self-portraits.

In 1880, he moved to Brussels and became an artist. His brother Theo offered to support him financially. Studying Travaux Des Champs by Jean Francois Millet and Cours De Dessin by Charles Bargue. When he moved to Paris with his brother Theo. During December 1888, Theo was worried about Van Gogh and paid Gauguin to visit him. During that time he was living on coffee, bread, and absinthe in Arles, France. He was known to eat paint. Van Gogh and Gauguin argued nonstop. During one of their fights, Gauguin walked out and Van Gogh decided to follow him. Hours later he paid for a prostitute. He offered her his ear and asked to “keep this object carefully”. After that incident, he was admitted to the asylum. On July 1890 Vincent Van Gogh committed suicide. Theo suffered syphilis died six months later. He was reburied next to Vincent.

His fame only came to be after his death. More than 200 paintings, 500 drawings, and 750 written documents. All of this is kept in a museum. The Van Gogh museum opened, 1973 in Amsterdam. This is able to make his artwork seen by the public. Van Gogh influences modern painting and artist. The Fauves and German Expressionists had adopted his art style.
