The Affordale Care Act came about in March 2010 under President Barack Obama's administration. There were several keys components of this law, the obvious and most important of them was to provide and extend affordable insurance coverage to citizens and legal residents of The United States. Legal residents and citizens alike were urged to enroll in a healthcare plan that suits their needs and their children who were not of age. For those who did not follow suit with this law, they were required to pay a hefty sum at the end of the tax year. According to healthcare.gov, For plan years 2010- 2018, if members could afford health insurance but choose not to buy it, they had to pay a fee called the individual Shared Responsibility Payment. Many including myself did not understand what this meant, and, or didn't even bother to do any research regarding the law. Sad to say, at the end of the 2010 tax season I had to pay a tax fine because of my lack of insurance. At the time, it didn't matter because I was in school, and I didn't see the need to get an insurance policy, especially if I could still rely on my parents for insurance needs. It was around that time period I did an extensive research for self-awareness about the ACA and what the laws entails.

Like many developed countries, the ACA strives to create an atmosphere where lawmakers wanted to focus more on the prevention and wellness of the nation, instead of existing illnesses and emergency services. In other words, if the country is more focus on preventing illnesses, the rise of chronic and acute illness will be reduced and insurance cost and usage will also be curved. To combat this problem a suggested healthcare fund for each state would help to provide the needed chemoprophylaxis for disease, oral health and health education for the public. However, since the inception of the ACA, an influx of patients with preexisting health conditions has been the focus for lawmakers and in general tax payers who have to incur the expenses for those are less fortunate.
