This is a disputable topic because teenagers are driven into some crimes and feel like they must do the same things as other people to be liked or respected by them. Depending on the seriousness of the crime, juveniles should be tried as adults if the crime that they have committed is heinous “Old enough to do the crime, old enough to do the time.” Juveniles should be responsible for their actions. The majority of juveniles crimes from violent homicide to vandalism are handled by the juveniles courts, not adults courts. Heinous crimes are most related with adults. Murder, is especially most associated with adults. If a teenager commits such a horrific crime like murder or rape they must be tried, and they should not be treated with tolerance and forgiveness, but with the force of law as an adult. Robert Acuna, 17-year-old, killed his two neighbors, then he stole their car and drove to Dallas.
Prosecutors had no explanation of why he did this, he had the reasoning of what he did, but he still killed the elderly couple. In 2011, 17-year-old Tyler Hadley took a claw hammer from the garage, went into the living room, and bludgeoned his mother. After his father discovered his wife dead on the floor, Tyler beat him with the sharp end of the hammer. He then used Facebook to invite local Florida teens to a party at his house while he left the bodies in their bedroom.Any person no matter the age who kills a human being should not be treated as a child and should not be allowed to go away with it because it will encourage the rot that is slowly but surely eroding the world, there should not be a excuse.
New York Times Upfront states that “trying juveniles as adults sends a clear message that crimes such as murder, rape, and assault will not be tolerated and that perpetrators must accept the consequences of their actions”. Agreeing with this because juveniles have the maturity to make decisions and if a juvenile commits one of this crimes they should be tried as adults. Protecting criminals because of their ages will obstruct the attempt of reducing loss of lives and providing justices for the victim. Giving them a second chance, juveniles will keep destroying people’s lives because the law does not force severe punishment. There should be no excuse. Teenagers who commit crimes are criminals and we should not let their age continue to allow them to be on our streets, living as our neighbors, and in many instances, committing more crimes.
