Good day class and Mrs Cronje, today you may find my speech very shocking but informative. I shall be doing my speech on famous serial killers over history that have done truly horrific acts to other humans. The killers that I will be speaking about are Jack the Ripper, Belle Sorenson Gunness, Jane Toppan, Ted Bundy and Charles Edmund Cullen.
Jack the Ripper was an unidentified murderer who was never caught for his acts of cruel violence on women in 1888. He typically murdered prostitutes who lived and worked in the slums of the East End of London. He mutilated his victims' stomachs prior to cutting their throats. The way that he cut his victims made it very clear that he had anatomical or surgical knowledge. There were 11 counted brutal murders and all were women.
Belle Sorenson Gunness was woman that murdered most of her suitors, boyfriends, and her two daughters, Myrtle and Lucy. She also killed both her husband and all their children. Her motives were to get their life insurance and all their cash and eliminating all witnesses. Reports say that she killed between 25 to 40 people including children. She died at the age of 49 but how she died is unknown. Jane Toppan was a killer nicknamed "Jolly Jane" because she was seen as a very happy and jolly person. She had confessed to 31 murders and she was quoted saying that her ambition was "to have killed more people-helpless people-than any other man or woman who ever lived". She was said to not let her victim die very quickly but let them be near death and then reviving them and killing them finally after doing this a few times. She mostly used poison to kill her victims, but she also would poison herself to make men that she was courting feel bad for her. Her victims were normally elderly and very sick, and she used her victims as guinea pigs, so she could test different drugs on them. She was found not guilty for all her murders for reasons of insanity and was sentenced to life in Taunton Insane Hospital.
Ted Bundy was a serial killer, kidnapper, rapist, burglar, and necrophile who assaulted and murdered numerous young women and girls. He confessed to 30 counts of homicide. Yet the real victim count is unknown, it is a fact that he killed more women than he confessed. He would usually approach women as an injured or disabled man and charmed them till they went with him to a more secluded area where he killed his victims. He kept their severed heads as souvenirs in his apartment. He was executed by electric chair at age 43.
Charles Edmund Cullen was a former nurse who confessed to killing 40 patients during his 16-year nursing career. He would kill his patients by giving them an overdose of medication that they were meant to be taking. He said that he overdosed his victims because he didn't like seeing them suffer and wanted to end their suffering. He is still alive today and he is 58 years old, but he has 127 years in prison with no parole anytime soon. Experts also say that he has killed more people than he says but there is no proof since most of his files got burnt in fires at his previous jobs. They think that he might have killed over 400 people.
"I was born with the devil in me. I could not help the fact that I was a murderer, no more than the poet can help the inspiration to sing... I was born with the evil one standing as my sponsor beside the bed where I was ushered into the world, and he has been with me since." A famous quote made by H.H Holmes also known as The American Ripper. By saying this he means that the future is made up by the time you are born and that he just happened to be born a killer and that he hasn't had a free will since he was born.
