Black Panther is the most distinctive black movie in the Marvel universe. Every black man in the movie has a lofty ideal, including the villains also to help the oppressed people all over the world stand up. It's all thanks to the birth environment of director Ryan Coogler that his creative ideas started with African culture.[1] It emphasizes the influence of an African country's governance concept on the masses. Therefore, I’d like to talk about whether technology isolation of Wakanda is a good policy.
Wakanda is known for its Vibranium that made the king's armor, the general's weapon, as well as battleships and new energy. Even this precious material can repair the body and cure diseases. WaKanda is a godsend land, and we cannot imagine there will be African farming nation with such rarities. Therefore, they can rely on these resources to be self-sufficient and to fully protect the territory. However, they concealed their national strength and did not communicate with the outside world so that the outside world's impression of Wakanda was just a backward farming country. And in the movie, the residents of Wakanda live in a primitive African life. Is this a failure of policy? My answer is no. The people of Wakanda are like vested interests because they enjoy unique resources. As a vested interest, there is no incentive to actively change the government. Only when the structure of the vested interest group changes or the people at the bottom can no longer survive, will the government reform take place actively or passively. The beginning of the movie tells us that when the Vibranium fell to the earth, Wakanda was fighting between several tribes at that time. In modern times when the Black Panther was in power, and when the National Convention was held, several representatives were still the leaders of various tribes. So from the perspective of the film content, the structure of vested interest groups has not changed for thousands of years. Therefore, for thousands of years, the people of Wakanda have no pressure on life, live a happy life, and there will be no civil war. When this condition is ensured, the king of Wakanda naturally has the energy to pay attention to external unrest and protect the world with high technology.
In addition, because of technology isolation, outside lawbreakers will not have the opportunity to steal technology to do evil. For example in the movie Iron Man 2, due to the promotion of Stark Industries' technology throughout the world and its widespread attention, the villain Ivan Vanko got the design drawings and imitated similar uniforms to cooperate with bad people in an attempt to harm the world. Therefore, technical isolation has proven to minimize threats. [2]
There are no good or bad political ideas, only suitability. On the other hand, Wakanda's resources are for the protection of the people of this country. Only by protecting the “small family” can we protect everyone.
