When it comes to transitioning to adulthood, a lot takes place and many memories are created. There is different concept with the transitions, and they can be determined by the culture and ethnic background of the individual. The rites of passage, the different attachment styles and different types of attraction all contribute to transition to adulthood and forming and establishing lasting relationships. A normative perspective is also the time for relationships and romance to happen while transitioning.

There are four type of attachment styles that assist with the way individuals are while transition to adulthood. The four attachment styles that assist are secure (autonomous), avoidant (dismissing), anxious (preoccupied) and disorganized (unresolved). Out of all the attachment style the most effective one in forming lasting relationship will be autonomous (secure).

Autonomous (secure) attachment is when the line of communication is open and being honest exist. This person hardly allows any type of conflict to occur and cause issues within their present life. This attachment basically speaks for itself, because everything is simply secure. Allowing you partner the opportunity to have their own time (me time) without negging. “Low on avoidance, low on anxiety, and comfort with intimacy is how to describe this attachment” (Levy, 2017).

Dismissive (avoidant) attachment is when not being able to depend on nor allow their partner to feel apart of a team. Communication is intellectual but there are still a few boundaries of what is talked about though. Closeness does not happen to much within this attachment style. “High on avoidance, low on anxiety and uncomfortable with closeness and primarily values independence and freedom” (Levy, 2017).

Preoccupied (anxious) attachment are individuals who let their emotions come to the surface more than others. These individuals allow their past issues to reappear and disrupt their current situation by invading their life. Anxious is taking over more than expected with attachment which is causing in securing to occur. “Low on avoidance, high on anxiety and crave closeness and intimacy” (Levy,2017).

Unresolved (disorganized) attachment are individuals that does not have anything under control in away that’s organized and understand by others. Antisocial, lack of concern, and aggressive is shown within this attachment style which could lead to something else (i.e. depression, low esteem and low confidence). Majority of the things from previous attachment style is not accepted with this style. A child that must be introduce to this style from and guardian the child will fear multiple things. “High on avoidance, high on anxiety, uncomfortable with intimacy, and worried about partner’s commitment and love” (Levy, 2017).

With autonomous (secure) attachment being the most effective for forming of a lasting relationship it will allow the foundation of the relationship to be built off trust, respect, love and honesty. All the features that an individual had from an attachment style can come from each style not just one type to create an attachment style.
